I had an appointment in Oakland and when here you gotta go places you like. Haven't been to Dona for a while and it's getting to be dinner time. So I ordered two Barbacoa bowls with black beans to bring home. The Barbacoa beef is cooked perfectly and super flavorful. Generous portions of everything for about $15 which is not super expensive nowadays.. I walked into a bright vibrant atmosphere and ordered in the to go line. Service is friendly. I did wait for a little bit, but that just makes me think they prepared it fresh which is fine with me.

This was my first time at Dona. Nice interior downstairs and upstairs with outdoor seating. Order at the counter on first floor and order will be dropped off at table. Everything tasted good and fresh. Prices are reasonable. Will be back to try other items. Metered parking lot and street parking.

Doña was great, super casual and low key. Perfect for a night out with family or a ladies night! The atmosphere is very lively with great decor and plenty of seating. The parking lot is paid only and pretty small. You order first and get a number and then they bring you your food once you're seated. The food came out super fast! I kind of think of Dona like an upscale chipotle with more options. (And I like chipotle I think it's a great fast food option, although maybe not the most authentic haha). They do have a full bar and lots of alcoholic beverage options along with nonalcoholic options. My pollo asada bowl was delicious and a great portion size. The Chicken was moist(hate using this word but it's appropriate here) and had great flavor! We also got chips and guac and queso and chips too. Appetizers and very shareable. The elote was solid and the sopa de Lima was very citrus-y and refreshing. The chicken in the soup was shredded which made it a little dry. Service was excellent, very fast and accommodating it took us a little time to figure out what we wanted and the cashier was super patient with us. Thank you! Everyone in my group was very happy with their meals.

When I first came here I was a little put off by the order first then they bring to your table but I guess it's quicker. It's a good lunch hour spot. Food is surprisingly fresh and innovative. Only wish their Caesar salad was better. Would pass on that next time but the rest was delicious!

My best friend discovered Doña and we are now changed for the better! The vibes here are it and the food is pretty good too! We came on a weekend, despite the rain it was crowded inside! The restaurant is extremely big with multiple stories, beautiful outdoor patios, and colorful indoor seating. The ordering process is casual--you order and pay at the register, receive your number, and staff will deliver your food. Everything else is self service such as water, utensils, take-out containers. Interactions with workers were limited but everything was efficient and our food came out fast. My best friend and I both got the Carnitas Bowl and Strawberry Horchata. My carnitas bowl was good--a huge portion where we both needed take-out boxes. There was a good variety and portioning of all ingredients. The carnitas was plentiful though some pieces were a bit dry. The horchata was the winner. We had never had strawberry horchata but theirs I can dream about. It was so creamy, the consistency was almost to a smoothie point, and the fresh strawberries gave it a nice sweetness. Piedmont Ave. has so many eateries. I'm kind of surprised I'd never seen or heard of Doña until today! They have a paid parking lot, but you can find free residential parking around. Come for the vibes, bring your friends and family and dog, and enjoy!

If you want a delicious, flavorful, and healthy-esque breakfast, Doña is the place to go. There's limited paid parking out front, and plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the Spring/Summer air in. My friend and I both ordered the Hash bowl and I added carnitas to mine. The vegetables were plentiful and delicious, and the carnitas under the runny eggs were well seasoned. It was a great way to start our day!

Nice place for lunch. The plates we had are ala carte, but hearty. Saul our server as well as the rest of the staff are very attentive. I had no issues when wanting some modifications for my order Available parking with meters. Check out my pics. I'm sure they'll explain better.

The vibe and atmosphere is amazing. When you walk in, you order and pay before receiving your food, which was fine--although it didn't quite give a full sit-down restaurant feel, even though the food is delivered to your table. The queso and chips weren't my favorite; the cheese tasted similar to canned cheese, and the peppers on top were very spicy. On the plus side, the lime chicken soup was amazing--definitely a standout. I also ordered the key lime pie, which was very tart, but the crust was delicious. The tacos were very good, while the beans and rice were just so-so. The staff who rang us up were very helpful and friendly. Overall, it's a place you may need to have an acquired taste for, but there are definitely some solid menu items worth trying. Also they have outdoor seating. Kid friendly, they also have a full bar in the drinks. Look delicious........

After reviewing Dona back in 2020 I FINALLY made it in person and they did not disappoint! I ordered the same things on door dash always. The service is good. My chips and cheese are consistently good. The vibe is good. Parking can be an issue but we'll worth the hassle.

Decent food, nice place, good service. The guacamole and aguas frescas are really good. The nachos are pretty good. The place is big and nice with a patio and balcony type area and a lot of seating indoors too. The meat and fish were alright, I've had better but I've also had worse. I think the fish tacos at Cholita Linda nearby are better to be honest

Mezcal Paloma was refreshing. The Barbacoa bowl wasn't just pretty. It was also delish and flavorful.

Without fail, Doña is our go to place Friday nights when it sunny out. We love sitting on their sunny patio. We also love their delicious food. Every time, they serve up good quality , decent portion and FAST dishes!!! This time I tried their passion fruit margaritas. It was delicious. I also tried their Fish bowl. The cod was good quality. They were giant chunks of fish. It was just perfectly cooked! I love their staff. They are always friendly and helpful!!

Great place to get a reasonably priced Mexican bite! They have an array of tacos/ bowls to choose from however I note they do not have carne asada. I ordered the fried fish bowl, which had black beans, rice, guacamole, salsa, shredded cabbage, and pickled red onions. The fish was flakey and cooked well. I tasted the barbacoa nachos and the beef was really well done! I'm iffy on the quality of the cheese because it seemed liquid upon serving. What surprised me was the type of establishment. It's a huge restaurant (in comparison to others on Piedmont Ave) with an outdoor patio and upstairs balcony, also a bar, and indoor dining room seating. With all this space, I was surprised to find out that it is order at the counter and self seating. You pick up your own silverware and water from the front of house. While surprised, I won't say it's a bad thing. It's more casual than anticipated, and food prices reflect that.

Doña is a seriously tasty, authentic Mexican restaurant with lots of indoor and outdoor seating and a casual vibe. From their weekend breakfast menu, the Chilaquiles Rojos was made of tortilla chips cooked in a guajillo salsa, topped with queso fresco, crema, red onions, cilantro, and scrambled eggs. The best part of this dish was the smoky, thick, flavorful guajillo salsa, balanced out by the refreshing toppings. The Pozole Rojo (another weekend special) was a red chile broth with tender chunks of boneless pork, hominy, shredded cabbage, and radishes, served with tostadas, onions, lime, and a creamy red salsa on the side. My personal favorite dish was Relleno con Hongos, two poblano chiles stuffed with cheese, hen of the woods, and king trumpet mushrooms. The stuffed chilies were served on top of a tomato-habanero sauce, topped with crema, and served with fresh corn tortillas on the side. The tender chilies had an unctuous, umami flavor from the cheese and mushroom filling, which paired perfectly with the refreshing tomato salsa. Overall, the food here was seriously delicious, beautifully-presented, and a great value too! The upstairs patio is perfect on a sunny day, and the service was quick and no frills.

Lots of different open sections, many open spaces and large tables covering a huge foot print. Lots of TVs, good music/sound system, and lots of plants used to split up the tables and create a great environment. Food could be slightly improved. I'll definitely be back and give it another try. Come here for the vibes, drinks, and atmosphere - which are without a doubt a 5 star experience - but if you want good authentic Mexican food, look elsewhere. Food, I'd give a generous 3.5 stars to 3.8 stars, at best. I was really excited to try their food but honestly it tasted bland, unpolished, and unrefined. I have a feeling their target audience is someone that doesn't like spice so they punish those of us that actually like them. For example, my fish tacos didn't have pico de gallo or hot salsa, my rice and beans were NOT even topped with any sour cream (a Mexican delight) or fresh grated queso fresco. These are two very simple ways to elevate the dish and was a miss in my book. Their mole dish was nicely plated but for the taste the mole was not up to par - it tasted sweet and not authentic, there was no depth in the flavor you're used to tasting for mole. Drinks were 5 stars without a doubt and I had the best Paloma I've ever had in my life. I also highly recommend the Alabama slammer super yummy and tasty it's like a punch but not too sweet. The drinks did take a solid 30+ minutes to get delivered so that was a bummer. If they were quicker I would've gotten a second round but I didn't feel like risking waiting around for another half hour for them. Parking is pretty good but it's still Oakland - I do appreciate that they hire a super friendly security guard attendant at a nearby dedicated parking lot location for a modest $5 charge. Don't forget to tip the parking lot attendant doing the lords work! The last thing I would mention is that if you're sensitive to smells, this is an outdoor place right off the bay (1-2 blocks) and near some Amtrak train tracks (which pass hourly or so), so there is a faint and occasional odor of bay water and some brake dust or diesel fumes when trains pass occasionally.

I also got a hibiscus (Jamaica) agua fresca that was good. They do accept credit card but they'll charge a $1 fee so try to bring cash if you can. Definitely recommend, this is now one of my top taco spots in Oakland.

I was really excited when I arrived at Taquería El Paisa. It's a lively, energetic establishment,…read moreand even though there were at least 20 people ahead of me in line, the wait gave me a chance to observe the well-orchestrated kitchen operations. Everything looked authentic, fresh, and incredibly appetizing. When it was finally my turn to order, I was especially pleased to see the variety of meats available. The suadero immediately caught my attention. It appeared to be the proper cut of meat--a cut that surprisingly few places in the Bay Area use, and even fewer seem to know how to cook properly. I also noticed that they use a traditional "disco"--the large, deep, circular pan with a dome-shaped center--to cook the suadero. At that point, my mouth was watering. We ordered a burrito, three asada tacos, two suadero tacos, two cabeza tacos (meat from cow's head), one lengua (beef tongue), and one tripa (beef small intestine). I also asked for some of the salsa available behind the counter where they serve your tacos, which turned out to be a delicious house-made habanero salsa. Unfortunately, not all that glitters is gold. As appetizing as everything looked, the meats simply weren't executed as well as I had hoped. The asada was dry and overcooked. The suadero was dry, tough, and overcooked. I was particularly looking forward to the tripa, but instead of the crispy, rich, savory flavor I normally associate with a great tripa taco, these were soft, soggy, fatty, and somewhat bland. One of the biggest disappointments was that all of the different cuts seemed to taste almost exactly the same. Part of the appeal of ordering tacos like suadero, cabeza, lengua, and tripa is experiencing the distinct character of each cut. Unfortunately, those differences were largely lost here. By the end of the meal, the dominant flavor in my mouth was simply grease, which made it difficult for the individual meats to shine. That said, there is a lot to like about Taquería El Paisa. I absolutely loved the décor and overall ambience. The restaurant has a genuine feel of as if you were in a Mercado in Mexico City, and that atmosphere adds a lot to the experience. I also really enjoyed the salsa bar, which offers a great variety of traditional taco accompaniments. The house-made habanero salsa, in particular, is excellent--bright, flavorful, and seriously spicy. A few drops on each taco is more than enough. Seriously, resist the temptation to douse your taco in it! I think Taquería El Paisa has tremendous appeal and a potential for the best taqueria in the Bay Area. The atmosphere is authentic, the selection of meats is impressive, and the presentation initially builds a lot of anticipation. What I would love to see is a little more attention given to the cooking techniques and handling of each individual cut. Better control of the cooking time, texture, and perhaps work on mastering how  the suadero, tripa, lengua, and cabeza can each maintain their own distinctive flavor and character. There's definitely something special here waiting to come through. With some refinement in the execution of the meats, Taquería El Paisa could really elevate the taco experience and turn that first impression of excitement into an equally impressive meal. Side note, is there a bathroom at this restaurant? I couldn't find one.

But when compared to its counterparts it wasn't quite as jaw dropping. 8.1/10 Overall: 9.4/10

It's a fun space to hang out and I admire their contribution to the community, but I'd still recommend folks to go to Fruitvale for more diversity and genuine flavors. The presentation and hand made tortillas were great though

Love, love, love. We went for my birthday and I picked this place off of a short list I have saved…read morefor some time. I could only get a 8PM seating for 3 but we decided to get there at 7ish and see if they would seat us early. They were able to! However I will say the place was pretty packed. We were seated in the covered patio area and it was plenty fine with a jacket and they did have heat. We went a little crazy and I will say for three people we ordered WAY too much but we're foodies and wanted to try it all. We started out with the pluot salad, spicy carrots and a bowl of pozole. I ordered a passion fruit margarita. For mains we ordered the duck verde mole and the filet huarache. For desert we order the pot de crème (chocolate with an almond cookie). Everything was flavorful perfection. I actually think the salad and the carrots were my favorite. Hearty potions on everything btw. Inside is beautifully decorated and it has a party vibe. I brought the food home for my guys, even my 13 year old ate it up.

Every bite had so much flavor. The fish tacos were another standout. They were perfectly fried, packed with a generous amount of fish, and the combination of flavors paired together phenomenally. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. Such a great experience overall. I'm already looking forward to coming back and trying even more of the menu! Highly recommend!
