Ordered Chicken Verde and Pork Verde Burritos and the whole thing was perfect. Such tasty, fresh and wholesome ingredients. They got our special requests just right, too--no sour cream and extra cheese. The guacamole was super fresh and not that watery slush some places use. Salsa was also so delicious and expertly prepared. I found the prices surprisingly reasonable and much better than most Mexican restaurants. And even the service was wonderful! My wife and I, went to Glondrinas and had a really great experience. The food was amazing and the service was great. The inside is great to sit and eat. Today we both had the Nachos and they were fire the pickled jalapeño, carrots, jicama, and roasted Serrano peppers were fresh and on point. Both moles they make are excellent, but the poblano might be my favorite. The prices are fair (thank you!!) and the food is delicious: prepared and served with care. Fantastic refried beans! The chile verde sauce is fantastic, but I wasn't a fan of the pork: it's more like shredded carnitas than chunks of pork that is slow cooked in the sauce. The shredded pork can be a tad dry, but still tasty. The counter-people are friendly and very helpful. It's a welcome change from the often apathetic service around Oakland. Came here over the weekend for brunch because I was craving mexican breakfast. Food came out fast and it was delicious! I ordered the chorizo egg breakfast plate which comes with 2 sauces (one creamy and one pesto), beans, potatoes, and 3 corn tortillas. It really hit the spot! Very good value for the money as well. My husband got the pupusa plate and was also very satisfied. There is a bar in the back to self serve water, roasted peppers, salt/pepper, and pickled vegetables. Okay, this location is in the Laurel district of Oakland. I have to admit it is quite a challenge to get to this restaurant, using public transportation from Alameda to East Oakland. Certain bus lines are operating on a Sunday schedule due to Juneteenth, a federal holiday. There is indoor and patio seating. A guesstimate seating capacity indoor is at most 30 people. The outdoor patio seating is about 15 people. Ambiance is casual and comfortable. Decor is quaint. Specialties: burritos, enchiladas, pozole, chilaquiles, kids meals, taco salad, combo plates, agua fresca (horchata, sandia, sangria and jamaica), desserts (tres leches cakes, cookies). Eats: huevos rancheros with whole pinto beans, potatoes and warm flour tortillas. At first glance I thought there was too much rancheros sauce, but the beans and tortillas were perfect sides to complement the eggs. What happened to the leftover rancheros sauce? No, I did not lick the plate. LOL. It was sopped up by the remaining flour tortillas. The rancheros sauce had a nice kick...not too spicy. Yum, yum!! My sister had the chicken enchiladas with rice and pinto beans. She said it tasted okay. Service was a tad off. The gentleman who served me forgot silverware and napkins. Minor detail. Future visit: yes, an adventure to the Laurel District to Golondrinas for the red pozole and chilaquiles. Both dishes I haven't had in almost 20 years. read more

I went to go try this place on a Saturday evening, about an hour before closing. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. The gentleman at the counter guided me thru the menu, and I ordered: - 2 Crispy Baja Fish Tacos - 1 Sandia drink (watermelon). This was a dine-in order, so I was given a number and I picked a table. The interior is very clean, with a modern decor. It has a cozy and warm feeling. There's also an outdoor patio with several tables. There's high chairs for the kiddies. My two Baja Fish tacos arrived, and the presentation was beautiful. The tacos were well dressed in shredded cabbage, cream and salsa. Sauces were provided. I asked for crispy tacos, and I got CRISPY. Those fresh tortillas shattered when I bit into them. The battered fish had a mild flavor, not fishy at all. Price: 2 for $12.50. The Sandia drink was very good and refreshing. It wasn't too sweet. It tasted exactly like eating a slice of watermelon. Before leaving, i ordered Nachos with carnitas and guac. It was served with peppers and sauces. It's a large order of nachos, with an even distribution of cheese and sauce. Very good! Very nice first experience, and I will return. So happy to have delicious, clean, authentic, flavorful Mexican food in our neighborhood! My Mexican mom wanted this 3 days in a row when she tried it. Their tamales are the best, the mole options are in point, all the different style of beans are perfection, the flan is so good, and they even have one of my favorite side dishes, plantains with beans and crema. When we ordered party platters, the fixings they gave us were generous and beautiful. They lasted for days (escabeche for the win!) and their taco salsas were just right. The service was good as the cashier was attentive and the server was careful. They had roja and verde salsas which were exceptionally bland. Absolutely stellar restaurant, blew my family away. We were extremely surprised. My wife and I have eaten flan for decades, and they have the best flan we have ever had! We gave a piece to our foodie daughter and she screamed "This is the best flan I have had" The Choco cake was excellent as well. It's the details that matter. Some of the absolute best refried beans I have had, terrifically seasoned, you could make a meal out of their bespoke fried to order chops and this bean drip. And the large, creamy fresh guacamole was a revelation. Only in Mexico where the avocados are given three additional weeks to ripen on the tree would I find better. My Baja stye fish tacos were huge, perfectly friend and well composed. My wife loved her cheese enchilada with that classic sour tang that comes from a made from scratch tomatillo sauce. My wife's watermelon juice was on point. I don't want to sound like a broken record but my Sangria was some of the best I have ever had. Just to be able to swing buy and grab refried beans, fresh fluffy chops, killer guac and flan to die for and plop down in front of the TV is going to be a go-to ritual for this family. I can't wait to get back and try their other dishes. I can be a real picky butthead when it comes to food, whether it's gourmet in Napa or great lengua tacos at a truck at 1 am. This place knocked me over. You order at the counter, they bring the food to you. Service is excellent. They have opened a second restaurant in Berkeley. The Food was good and the service but not the ambiance. It looks nothing like the photos. It is a small place indoors with white plastic seating and chairs. The drinks were water, sangria, or soda. Just got home from eating here for a belated Father's Day dinner with my husband and in laws. Wow, what an amazing place to eat. Everything is incredibly flavorful and super fresh tasting. Not to mention all the options to pick from on the menu. I had the pupusa plate and it was to die for. Seriously so good. The customer service is super friendly and you get your food relatively quickly, too. Looking forward to coming back and trying something else on the menu. This is an update to my earlier review. I've been to Golondrinas several times since ordering the fish tacos. Although I haven't tried that dish again, I've had the chicken enchiladas verdes with refried beans. The food was very good and flavorful. The service is excellent and prompt. I do agree with some of the other reviewers who've noted that the restaurant can be noisy when crowded. (To be fair, that was true of Communite Table, which was in the same space.) This might be ameliorated by hanging some sound deadening material on the walls, like tapestries. I'm not an interior designer, so take that suggestion with a few tablespoons of salsa. I'm glad I gave Golondrinas another try. I may even order the fish tacos again. read more

A friend recommended this place so my husband and I went for breakfast yesterday. I had the mole poblano enchiladas with chicken and they were delicious, the sauce was perfection sweet & spicy just like I like it. My husband had the red chilaquiles and he loved them and compared them to Cuidad de Mexico chilaquiles. Spicy and crunchy! We both had the Mexican mocha and it was delicious. Yes! I agree with everybody about the quality of the food, cleanness and affordable prices, Tamales included. But I have one complaint: Why garnishing the tamales without peeling them first? That's kinda dumb! Once you peel them all the beauty and the extra flavors go away with the discarded "tusa," or corn husk. Hands down the best home made Mexican food in the neighborhood. The service is friendly, the restaurant is quiet and has seating inside and outside. They serve a variety of authentic Mexican food, including Salvadoran pupusas. This is a family ran restaurant and you can tell they take pride in cooking for the community. Had a taco craving so had to try Golondrinas. They have a small parking area next to the building which is great. Indoor and outdoor seating available. For outdoor they do a good job in getting the seating mostly under umbrellas. The menu is pretty extensive and you order at the front counter. There is water and some pickled veg and jalapenos to self serve. I wish they also provided some napkins at the self serve table. They bring you the food and it appears to be made to order. We tried all the tacos - shrimp, fried fish, baked fish and beef. The seafood was the best since the beef was a bit dry. The have a nice red and green sauce, each very tasty and not spicy, you can add the pickled veg for some spice. read more

My Carnitas Burrito was perfecto! It was perfectly cooked and full of flavor, as were the rest of the ingredients. I stopped in around 7:30pm and placed my to-go order at the counter. The woman who took my order was polite and courteous. The total cost without tip was $15.77, (carnitas burrito $11.30 + guacamole $2.00 + cheese $1.00 + tax $1.47), yikes! I definitely would go back. I've enjoyed their breakfasts before but decided to try a burrito today. Although the flavors were good, I had a hard time eating the mushroom and kale burrito. With each bite , there was a large piece of the kale stem. I was disappointed. Perhaps it could be chopped smaller or removed from the greens. read more
