Unfortunately when I arrived there was no greeting from any of the numerous staff. The two front desk employees were very busy with their registers and the phone, and it was 5 minutes before I was able to speak to someone. The main lady was a bit short with me, (and I saw her be much shorter with other customers). They were really busy, so I can sympathize with the stress, but some more manners would have went a long way. Unfortunately my pickup time was 15 minutes later than the ETA I was given online. When it came to the pizza itself though, they really delivered! It's possibly the best BBQ Chicken pizza I've had, even though I was surprised by the inclusion of dill pickles. If you're a pizza fan visiting the north shore it's definitely worth considering this place!

Why would they accept a COD order on a contactless delivery??? I called him back to inform him we didn't have the pizza because it wasn't delivered to us. He started getting really threatening again so I just hung up again. After about 15 minutes, I got a text saying our order had been canceled. They obviously went back and got the pizza. Now you're wondering if we got an apology - NOPE! Be very careful if you order from them and request delivery.

It was pretty awful. Whereas Sammy's is spectacular, and a Minnesota favorite, with a dozen or more locations sprinkled across the Upper Midwest, mostly descendents of the founder. But the Lakeside outlet was our stop, it's only in its second location since its origin, moving 2 blocks east of the original outlet. Each of the Sammy's pizza recipe is standardized, but each offers something a little different than other outlets. At Lakeside, it's broasted chicken for as long as I can remember, tho I have never tried it. "Broasting" is a registered trademark of the Broaster companyin Wisconsin that sells the equipment and licenses the method to independent restaurants and groceries. It's a combination of deep frying and pressure cooking, resulting in a fried, breaded, marinated chicken that is "less greasy" than conventional frying offers. I digress. Our Minnesota Burger Bureau Chief, Kawika, a large supporter of Sammy's Lakeside, today trekked out to try their calzones. The "Americanized" version of a calzone usually entails dough folded in a half moon shape, stuffed with pizza-like ingredients, and baked. In Italy, you'll often see a fried version, as well. Kawika ordered his calzone stuffed with pepperoni, green pepper, and mozzarella cheese. Although the ingredients were right out of the pizza fixings, and thus adored, he said the dough wasn't really to his liking, he was expecting them to use pizza crust dough. He is sure that this product will appeal to a large audience.

Walking in, the place wasn't too busy, perhaps 50% capacity. We were interested in ordering the fried cheese curds, but the server told us they weren't battered in house, so we passed on them. Smoked Fish Salad (Market Price, $18.99) - This is a pretty salad - all ingredients are arranged in rows along the dish. Mixing things together is a bit of a pain, but I appreciate the dressing on the side to add to preference. The dressing is an interesting blend of mayo and other ingredients, perhaps BBQ sauce, that make it slightly tangy and very sweet. There's an undertone of smokiness throughout, which tastes somewhat like liquid smoke rather than the dressing actually being smoked. It is on the sweeter side of dressings. Other than greens, there's a row of wild rice, dark and snappy, completely broken cultivated rice. There's also a bit of house smoked trout, nice and smoky. (4/5) Classic Wild Rice Burger ($16.99) - This is one of the tallest burgers I've seen in quite a while, mostly due to the inclusion of fresh vegetables including onion and tomato, and alfalfa sprouts. For some reason instead of using larger tomatoes, they use small roma tomatoes, including three small slices. They also used red onion that's chopped into a variety of different shapes instead of whole slices. It's really strange - I guess this saves on cost? Unfortunately smaller pieces means things fall out while eating. The patty is larger than the bun. It has plenty of broken wild rice bits giving some additional crunch and that signature wild rice taste. It's charred on the griddle well and it keeps its structure, not falling apart or becoming mushy at any point. I love how it's distinctively a rice burger and doesn't try to be a meat substitute. Two slices of American cheese are melted on top that gives some fattiness to the dish. The bun is toasted without butter and there's a flavorful garlic mayo spread on the top. It would be nice if they had also applied the sauce to the bottom bun as I found the patty to not have enough moisture or fat incorporated. The burger comes with some thin commercial fries. There aren't any issues with the level of fry and they are otherwise unremarkable. (4/5) Fitger's Brewhouse serves some solid good old fashioned Midwestern American food. Not much else to say.
