This restaurant gets my pick for best overall Vietnamese restaurant. The menu offers a wide variety of dishes. The pho here is good, but not the best in the area saturated with Vietnamese restaurants (reason why it didn't get 5 stars). They make the best Shaking Beef (com bo luc lac) dish in the metroplex IMO. Other popular dishes we tend to order are Bun Bo Hue and Bun Rue. For those hungover days, they serve great Rice Porridge (chao) with fried bread sticks (quai). I haven't bought any, but the restaurant is very popular for their fried tofu. I always see people coming in and filling up boxes to take home. Specialty drinks here are huge compared to other pho restaurants. The lemonade soda and Thai tea come in cups twice as big as competitors. I LOVE their iced coffee with condensed milk (cafe sua da) and I'm a huge critic when it comes to that drink. I think it has to do with their crushed ice. They typically finish off the meal with free tofu in sweet ginger sauce for dessert, which my girlfriend loves enough to go here every time we go out to eat Vietnamese food. Been coming here on and off for years, since they're one of the only restaurants open early in the morning down the street from the church I attend when in Dallas. Food: Pho broth is really flavorful and the portions of noodles they give you is fairly decent for the price. I only like soft tendons in my pho, but they are REALLY generous on that. I've picked at the chargrilled meat off of various siblings plates and its delicious. Service: ehh you walk in they take your order on their little iphones, run back with water, and then drop your food off and you'll never hear from them again. Typical vietnamese restaurant. I have been here a couple of times so I can make a review based on what I ordered and experienced. (1) the pan fried noodles: The dish is huge! I cannot finish the whole thing. Can't say much. 4/5 (3) Beef Flat Noodles: Again, I thought it was kind of bland but it is a huge portion. 3/5 (4) Baked Catfish (Size Medium): More like a Small than a medium so this made me upset. It was more expensive than Saigon Block (another similar restaurant but known for their baked catfish's). Flavor was pretty good. I love stopping by whenever I crave Viet food! Here, you get a nice bargain on fried tofu (3 for $1) and they make some good desserts to go. They make good tofu if you want to try any other tofu foods. Business is fast and serious. Very kind woman (I think she is one of the owners... family owned?)! I love my pho. I usually say that pho in Houston is much better than pho in the DFW area. I would have said that that statement is true, until I tried the pho at Doan Restaurant. Holy cow, that was almost a religious experience. They make their pho tai with filet mignon, and their thit chin (beef brisket) was really succulent and tender. You can tell that the brisket was hand cut instead of machine cut, which really adds a layer of texture that enhances everything. The broth is very clean and tasty too. This place has my favorite pho most of the time, but other times it's awful. The meat is sometimes cut too thick and dried out, with maybe two pieces of it in the entire bowl. But, I keep coming back for more. I think the staff actually recognizes me now I come so often. It's not a "white people" restaurant. There's Vietnamese TV shows playing, Vietnamese desserts (which are really weird tasting if you're not Vietnamese), you get the idea. So don't expect your server to be like the ones at Denny's. They take your order, bring you your food, and if you need anything else you flag someone down. You don't get a check, you just walk up to the register and tell them what table you were at, and they may ask you what you got. I actually like it, I work as a waitress at Denny's and I think constantly checking back without being flagged down is unnecessary. A useless formality. Get the iced coffee with milk. It's the strongest coffee you'll ever taste, but is still slightly sweet and creamy. Even if I come here late at night I always get one to go. Better than Starbucks. Coming here can be risky as far as pho goes, but it's usually good. Took off one star for the risk factor. read more

I used to go here all the time and loved their Bun Mam especially. Their pho has wonderful cuts of beef. I have no problem with the food whatsoever; the food is delicious, and I've been to this restaurant with my family for years. My personal problem with this restaurant lately is the employees. These new employees are probably in their late teens early 20's probably. The last time I went there, I ordered Bun Mam, which usually comes with a plate of bean sprouts, cabbage, and herbs. I didn't get any herbs, so I asked my waiter for a plate of herbs, and she was extremely rude about it, telling me that my dish isn't supposed to have herbs, when I know very well as a Vietnamese person who has been eating there for years that it does indeed come with herbs. She then later comes back with a bowl of the wrong herbs for another dish. Now that made me upset, but the most upsetting part was that when I looked into the bowl, there was a CATERPILLAR IN IT! Indeed, A CATERPILLAR! I'm not joking! It was just squirming in my bowl, and I screamed. I called for my waiter and told her that she gave me the wrong herbs and along with the fact that there was a caterpillar in my food! She then proceeded to laugh her butt off and walked away with the bowl. I then later heard her talking with a coworker about how hilarious it was to find out that the bowl she gave me had a bug in it. My experience at that restaurant has forever been ruined, and I refuse to dine in the restaurant and only order take out from there. I went to this restaurant for lunch before I pick up my rental car. I ordered a small size bún mm and my husband ordered large Ph. Their broth is perfectly seasoned - not too salty nor too sweet but pho is lack in aroma and so is bun nam, not quite a traditional Vietnamese food. After eating my bun mam- sad to say that I'm not even full. (The large bowl is not much bigger, just a little bit more broth and few more strings of noodles- ordered it 2 weeks ago 8.99) About pho: didn't get my husband full either. Three-star because the broth was good and they use a good grade beef in Pho. Overall, for lunch was about $20+ with drinks, that's a little pricey for lunch, I might come back if there are no other choices for Vietnamese food, but if you want to be full, I would just go to buffet. read more

Pho here is pretty good, what I like about the pho here is that it is very clean. I also noticed that sometimes they serve in a steel bowl rather than ceramic, I was told that the steel bowl holds the heat better than the ceramic ones. The Pho has good flavors and aromas and very tasty. read more
