My car signaled a warning sign, saying all 4 tires needed air. I went to Dobbs in Ballwin reluctantly. I have been here before for tires pressure check, and I didn't think the manager was too happy to help. This time I was hoping for the best. In come Mike. I found out he is the new manager. He was super nice, very polite and friendly and very knowledgable. Even though this service is free, he did his job professionally and make sure my tires were good and checking the threads on tires were good. He also helped me reset my car step by step, turning off the warning sign and all. It might sound easy, but it was complicated to me, without his help, I'd be a lost cause. It is so sad that we have to trust people to do the right thing. I like to support family run businesses but they need to have standards across their locations if they want to keep business bc the Manchester location has upset me the last two times after years of taking cars here. In May I came here for an oil change made the appointment online rearranged my day to get someone to follow me there to drop it off and I get there and they say "sorry no time today we can't help who signs up online you'll have to reschedule" what???!!! No call nothing we were leaving town the next day and driving to Colorado so we needed the like change and car checked over. Went Nextdoor to Firestone and they were also busy but said they would squeeze us in if we can leave it. Yes thanks Today I call when they open (7am) and explain I have a nail on my tire can I bring it in he says sure I make appt at 2. At 8:45 they call me and say sorry they need to cancel my appointment I asked why he said they are short staffed and can't perform the inspection. I said I don't need an inspection just patch my tire. He says bring it In At 2 ok. I bring it in at 2 the guy working the desk was very nice explained that they can't repair it I need a tire they have them in stock and he can take care of me now because they have no cars (there were ZERO cars in the bays) and yet they were so busy they were cancelling appts?? He says they can't repair the tire so they need to replace it. I asked if I could just replace one or if I should replace at least to the way I was always Todt. He said just replace the one is fine because the other tires have enough tread. Later after they replaced the one tire I asked how much tread was left on the remaining tires. He said plenty I said what does that mean and he said oh you know you can replace them in a few months. How can he tell me? I can replace them in a few months when he has no idea how much I drive a day wouldn't that make more sense to tell me how many Miles are left on the tread? so I asked him to give me an estimate on how many miles I had left on the remaining three tires and he said 5,000 to 10,000 miles. Again ask if it was OK to only replace the one he said yes. I was late to get to work so I had to leave but later looked it up and these tires have 38000 miles on them and should be replaced and axel at a time or all four. Lastly I see a display of batteries and grab two for my keys fobs. I asked how much they were he wasn't sure and asks a guy to update the invoice to add the batteries...I said how much he said "we got them DOWN to $20 each" I said these are 4 pack dor $8 at Walgreens! He said well they are usually $30 each here. Duracell 2032 look them up! If I hadn't looked up the price while the guy was looking them up I would have paid it and never known. We were traveling to the area for a baseball tournament. On our way we had an accident on the interstate that resulted in a flat tire. We swapped it to the spare and when we arrived at the sports complex I could hear air leaking from the back tire on the same side as the impact. This location is right by the sports complex, so I pulled in to see if they could help me. It was 20 minutes before closing time on a Saturday. My tire pressure was at 16 at this point and I had already used the spare. Brandon and his team was so helpful. They all stayed late to replace both tires on my vehicle and get me back on the road safely for my almost 3 hour drive home. He took the time to explain what I needed to do when I had more time as far as alignment and such. Top notch customer service. Highly recommend! read more

If I could give them 0 stars, I would. I haven't had service done at Dobb's for many years because they screwed something up on a previous car. I needed an oil change and suspected I needed new tires (they weren't holding pressure and were 3 years old) before a 2000 mile trip. I usually go to my dealer for service, but I'd waited too long and I couldn't get in for an appointment. I figured Dobb's should be able to handle it without difficulty since it was a very simple service. I was wrong. As we were pulling into our parking lot returning from our trip two weeks later, the oil light came on. I'm thinking something major like a head gasket blew (which I've had happen before) because how would even Dobb's screw up an oil change that wouldn't trigger the oil sensor for 2000 miles. Took the car to my dealer and waited a couple of days for them to be able to get to it (because, if it was something major, I wasn't going to trust Dobb's to fix it and, if it was something Dobb's messed up, I wasn't going to trust them to fix that either). Turns out Dobb's didn't put a gasket on the oil pan plug and didn't tighten the plug completely (it was hanging by a single thread according my dealer's mechanic). Congratulations, Dobb's! You managed to hose a simple job that could have destroyed my engine if that plug had completely fallen off during our long vacation drive. As for customer service when I took my dealer's report and bill to them, that sucks, too. I want a refund for the botched oil change. Refunds can't be made more than 3 days after work they perform (at least not by the general manager of the store, who I was explaining this unsatisfactory experience to). He offered me 3 free oil changes. I told him I'm not trusting them to touch anything on my car again, free or not, so I'm waiting for a call from his superior tomorrow who was in meetings the rest of the day. We'll see if he actually calls or if I have to find a way to climb that hierarchy some other way to complain, be heard, and get my money back. I'm going to be better about getting appointments with my dealer when I need service from now on. I'll never trust Dobb's with any vehicle service again. I'm probably not even going to trust them to rotate my tires even though that comes free when purchasing tires from them. That's how much they are incompetent in my experience. read more

They wanted over $1800 to fix 3 things that cost me $200 to fix myself and 1 item didn't need repaired. When I argued with them over that 1 item that the Missouri Highway Patrol told me wouldn't fail an inspection, they hung up on me. I will never do business with them again. read more

I sat on the phone arguing with him about asking where my inspection is when we clearly talked about it and now he's claiming I lied about asking them to do it. I spent $2010 on just brakes alone which I'll give him that they needed to be done, but to sit here and call me a liar multiple times when he's the one that can't remember is just baffling to me. he tried up charging stuff I already had appointments made for and will say directly to me he didn't see I had tires in the back of my vehicle... well obviously you're the one on the computers not working on the vehicle. think he's a shady guy with a shady reputation and I will not be trusting a word he says. My car's battery died and we replaced it there, but the check engine light was on. After realizing we were in "limp" mode, we came back to the shop and asked for help. After running a diagnostic, they came up with a code for the throttle setting. We took it there on Saturday, and the car wouldn't be able to be fixed until Monday -- fine. But what the manager failed to understand was that we didn't have this issue until the car was 1) jumped and 2) battery was replaced. The fix he proposed varies between $200-700. After an argument between the manager and my boyfriend, he was told to "Google it," by the manager. So, I looked up some possible fixes on Google. The first thing that came up? A blown fuse. This wasn't even a suggestion or thought by the manager. Instead, he pointed us in the direction of the costliest option. There were no signs of a throttle body issue prior, which we explained repeatedly. We drove the car home in limp mode (10mph down busy Manchester Rd.) and checked the fuse in the morning. Sure thing, we saved ourselves $698, and I can get to work this afternoon without hitching a ride. read more

Brought my truck in for an oil change and tire rotation then once I came in to pick my vehicle up they informed me that my tires are "to heavy for them" maybe you shouldn't be a mechanic if the tires are to heavy for you. I've never had this problem at any other dobbs or any other tire shop. After 54,000 miles my car needed a new set of tires. After speaking with Manager Mike Cunningham he suggested three tires to chose from. He explained the pros and cons of each and I settled for a set of Michelins. He told me that many of the tires have a special rebate on at the moment and the tires I chose have a very nice $110 dollar rebate for a set of 4 tires. I was happy to hear that these were in the whare house and would be available the next morning so we booked an appointment for the next day at 1pm. I dropped in my car and went for a walk around the local mini-malls and 1 1/2 hours later I had a call telling me the car was ready for pick-up. A few minutes later I was paying the bill and noticed it was less than I was quoted so I asked if they gave me a different tire and the gentleman helping me (I wish I got his name) said no, "thank you for your service". He noticed my military license plate and added their military discount. I would have been none the wiser if he hadn't. I had experienced very good customer service until this point but adding the discount made this a "Historic transaction". It things like this that separate the best from the rest. Woke up this morning to a dead battery. Yikes!! I called Dobbs and they saved me. They did a diagnostic and all that was wrong was a dead battery. The front desk employee -- Brittany, asked if I needed my tire alignment. *I don't know if I did needed the tire alignment & told her just that. Brittany asked if my car had any shakiness while driving on the highway & I told her not at all, so she said it was unnecessary. My point is, this place is a honest!!! Received some new tires here and then after driving noticed a noise I hadn't heard before. Took it back in assuming it was an unbalanced tire. Dobbs did some troubleshooting and informed me that I had an issue with my rear differential and it either had to be replaced or rebuilt. After giving me a price of $2,900 for a re-built differential, I took it elsewhere for a second opinion. Turns out it is just a bad rear axle bearing. Do I need to say anything more? read more

I took my car in to have a tire patched. After checking over my tire, I was told that the hole was too large to patch and that I would need 4 new tires because I have an all-wheel drive car. Didn't seem right to me. So, I called a local Honda dealership who informed me that I could replace just one tire if I wanted. 1) Timely 2) Professional 3) Fair in Price (unlike dealer locations) 4) Understanding (see below) I've come here 3 times now but only had to pay twice. The time I didn't have to pay, we were in a rush to get on the road to go to Iowa. It had recently become quite colder so I wanted to air up my tires at quick trip to optimize my MPGs. The pin within one of my tire valves became jammed and my tire was deflating by the second. I screwed the cap back on to stop the leak and drove across the street to Dobbs not knowing how much it would cost. The guys replaced the pin for free and I was back on the road in no time. read more

My driver side door handle was not working so I took it in for them to look at it. They took the door apart and told me that I needed a whole new door handle. I paid the $180 for them to order a new door handle. I came back on the day that it came in and out of curiously I used my physical key to lock and unlock the door and everything worked fine and now the sensor worked fine. So I go back in to get my money back and they charge me the difference of labor and got a grand total of $3 refunded due to the labor of getting my door back together. The cashier informed me that the mechanic that looked at it said a cable was stretched and that was the reason it wasn't working. Ok? So the mechanic knew there wasn't an actual issue with the door handle that warranted a new door handle? I've been to 3 different dobbs locations and I've never left satisfied with the knowledge or service I've received. This past issue is the last straw with giving this local company a chance. Not to mention when I went back in for a refund one of the employees asked where I got it fixed at after I told him I had not taken it anywhere else. Took my Suburban in because of a loud humming noise coming from my front drivers side tire. Diagnosed with a bad wheel bearing, Quoted my wife around $750. I called 3 other tire and auto centers within 5 miles of these guys and they all came back at $450. When I told Dobbs they said the other auto center I contacted uses inferior wheel bearings and they would not feel comfortable putting them on my car.... I took my car to Dobbs in Ballwin for emissions testing and a safety inspection on 12/16. I was told the wait time would be approximately 2 hours. After waiting an extended length of time, the manager informs me my car "failed" the safety inspection for a right lower ball joint which was "loose". I was subsequently informed this would be a $500 repair. As a full time graduate student, I do not have excess money on hand. Thus, I was inclined to have another mechanic look at the vehicle. On 12/21, I took my car to another mechanic. The second mechanic informed me there was ZERO play in the ball joints and recommended reporting Dobbs for a fraudulent inspection. Dobbs corporate was called to report the incident. The only option given to me was to return to Dobbs for yet ANOTHER inspection. They refused to refund my money! I would not recommend Dobbs nor this location to anyone. Buyers beware of recommended services! Dobbs is running a scam! read more

Dobb's failed to do the final tightening of my lug nuts on my tires after a tire rotation. My tires nearly fell off the rims ( all four) while driving Highway 109. They left a hug wrench inside the hood in the engine area on another occasion. The wrench was about a foot long and it fell out from under my car while I was driving away. I felt lucky to be alive after both occasions. They are over priced. They add on or suggest services that are not needed. They are not AAA approved or rated. I walked in yesterday morning and was cheerfully greeted by Chris. I explained I was on my way to a funeral and my low tire pressure warning light came on. He immediately checked the tires, found a screw in one and informed me it was, unfortunately, not repairable. He quickly found my same tire at another location, and sent someone to get it. These guys were hustling like nobody's business!! Knowing I was in a bind, and on way to a sad occasion, they were doing everything possible to get me on my way. Do not send your children to this place on their own. My son is a college student and I live in Arizona. He found out that he needed an oxygen censor for his car. He asked to have that replaced and they said they HAD to do their own diagnostic. That seemed reasonable as I know they need to make money. My son went there for a $5.00 part to be replaced and they told him he needed a $3,000.00 transmission replacement. I had to call the gentlemen myself to see what was going on. My son NEVER had any issues with his transmission and no sign anything was going wrong there. I told the man that seemed fishy and that I would get a 2nd opinion. He proceeded to tell me that he would not lie, that he had been doing this since he was 18 and he was 54. In true fashion of a sales person. I should know as I am one! My son the very next morning went to the place he normally goes to (it was closed when he had tried before) and they explained... it was a $5.00 part that he needed!! If you are young, old, or do not know anything about cars DO NOT go here. They will try to screw you out of your hard earned money. If I could put a 0 review I would!! Never take your car to Dobbs, especially when it comes to safety and inspection. They will fail your vehicle for the smallest thing and then want to charge you to fix it. Or, they will do something to your vehicle so you pay them to fix it. I took my 20+ year old civic to get a last minute inspection, mind you this is a 20+ year old car, they failed it for a minuscule oil leak.. Then they wanted to charge me $1,200 to fix it! The vehicle isn't even worth that! If you are trying to gain business for failing a vehicle when there isn't a serious issue wrong with said vehicle, you are doing it wrong. I refuse to go to Dobbs for anything now. I took it to my usual shop and it passed, they said it was hardly leaking any oil.. a typical amount for a vehicle as old as it is. I just had a call with the store manager, Jim, who was completely unprofessional and rude. I was understandably frustrated as I had my tires worked on then rotated on Tuesday and ever since then the sensor in my car that tells me the tire pressure in each tire is no longer working. I called to determine what they would do to correct this. Jim was continually less than friendly from the beginning (even wondering why I would need an appointment rather than just walk in as if I have hours in my day to sit around their store for their mistake), but he became exceedingly rude when I said I certainly hope I won't be charged for this since it was them that caused the issue. At that time he stated we shouldn't point fingers and it is possible that the batteries on the sensors no longer work. 1) I came to your store because I had a tire issue that was reported from these sensors so they were working moments before the work was done. 2) I was unaware that such magic regularly occurred in which sensor batteries failed on the exact same day, at the same hour, at the same minute that they work on the tires in question.
