Chalk this up to one more place where some of the salads cost $17. Just salad, no chicken, shrimp or whatever. I don't know what this trend is in Berks county but I don't like it! I felt all in all, things were kind of expensive. We didn't have trouble parking but the lot is small and allegedly they run a shuttle sometimes? I have no details on that but be apprised. There is also a lovely view off the back deck, we sort of saw it, looked nice. We sat at the outdoor bar and had the lobster mac and cheese, a cheese steak sandwich and a $17 salad. The cheese steak was fine, nothing to write home about and the salad (did I mention $17) was also fine. My son enjoyed the mac and cheese but I agree with my wife it seemed quite buttery. I happen to really like butter but something of note. I have heard that not everyone loves butter?? Some things I don't understand. In summary it was fine, just fine. If you like dining in the open air they had lots of seating on their back patio. If we lived closer by we'd probably stop back. I'd have given 3.5 if I could. read more

Waited months to try this place and to be quite frank, I won't be back or at least not until it's improved. While the place was beautifully redone, the bar itself is a bit oddly laid out. Upon arriving, we mentioned sitting at the bar. The hostess was less than thrilled to be there given her body language. She said yeah idk if there are any seats but you can go look. Now great service would have been to say "we've been really busy, but let me quickly go check at both bars for you." Nope, my husband had to ask where the bar or bars were in which she sorta just pointed in a general direction. We sat at the bar for what seemed like an eternity before being greeted. The one bartender would ask us a question, go back to speaking to a coworker and then had asked us to repeat. Again, poor customer service. So bad so, I would assume a manager said she would just go get my tea. The young male bartender looked to be frazzled but I feel like he was trying to make up for the slack of the other bartender. The tots were a big portion, but they were over fried and lacked flavor. I got the lobster roll and there was more celery than anything. The fries were cold and soggy. I ask because a salad with grilled chicken is $23. I've been to a grocery store and can confirm there is no combination of vegetables and chicken that can justify a Berks County $23 salad. Perhaps if I were ordering a salad on the Vegas Strip or if I happened to be in Times Square for New Years Eve... but certainly not in Mohnton, PA on a Tuesday night. Worst Service. Took over 30 minutes to order our food. Waitress was in the middle of taking our drink order and left to serve food to another table. Why wouldn't the runner serve the food? First time there. Ambiance is great. Really cool feel. Owner Ben stopped at the table and told us about the layout. Waitress was great and full of energy. It was busy during Saturday dinner rush. Drinks took a little longer than normal but really not that bad. Food order was placed and it took about 35-40 min for a pizza, burger, salad and quesadilla. And then the fries for the burger were coming in a few minutes. Burger was finished when I asked to not even bring the fries. For a place that's consistently busy I was surprised at the time it took for the food and to not even be able to get a fry order taken completed. However, server dealt with all of this and adjusted our bill accordingly and had a manager give an additional discount for the wait. We will definitely go back and take advantage of then outdoor seating. And we were appreciative of the server helping out on the bill. Hopefully it was just a random hiccup on the weekend. read more

This was our first visit. Our group meets the third Tuesday of the month. Reservations were easy to make. We were seated on the outside deck area. It was a nice day so it was very enjoyable being out there. The service was great along with the food. I had the crab stuffed portobello mushrooms and my wife had the chicken quesadilla. This place really went down hill the prices went up but the food quality went down. First the hostess couldn't even tell us how long the wait was. The pizza looked like a frozen box pizza it didn't even have fresh mozzarella cheese on it. It was dry with barely any sauce. It was far from brick oven pizza like we always had before the bottom crust had markings like chuckie cheese pizza. They sat us with no plates and no silverware the waitress was not very attentive to us. My wife and daughter both ordered a martini it took forever to get the waitress said they were backed up at the bar. This was just after they told me the inside bar was closed..... that makes a lot of sense. Then they delivered our appetizer finally.... Still with no plates and no silverware! We went there for the first time today. We will definitely be back! The Sunday brunch menu was fantastic. The waitress could not have been better. It is certainly a hidden gem and our group was shocked that we hadn't been there before. The ambience was excellent with nice views. The food was fantastic and the owner was so nice, he even came over to chat with us to tell us all about the restaurant. 10 out of 10! We can't wait to go back and try the lunch and dinner menus! Potential. I like the ambience, and I love a good bar. I have only eaten once at said establishment and it was at the bar. There was one bartender, a packed dining room with waiting and the bar area. My party of four never got the second round of drinks that we ordered, it took a very long time to order our food, all of our food came at one time, except one person in our party, receive nothing.. Everything was fixed with politeness. They need more bar help. What they had that one young man doing was not physically possible. Very excited to try again, hoping some of these issues are cleared up. read more

We recently had reservations for 7 people at 6:00pm on a featured espresso martini girls night. We didn't get our first drink until 7:15pm and even not all of us had our drink and continued to wait as they then came to tell us they didn't have the flights. Fine, we'll order regular size martinis. Sadly, these were the worst espresso martinis we've ever had. We continued to wait until we got our food at 8:00pm, out of order (apps with food) and cold. While we understood it was busy, never in our lives have we had such an awful experience, all while people were coming and going into the establishment getting served drinks and food. 4 of the 7 of us work in the service industry so we try to be very understanding, but this was challenging to do. The restaurant did comp our drinks and gave the table a $100 gift card without even having to ask, which we do appreciate, it certainly shouldn't even have to come to that. Unsure as to where the disconnect was. Was it the kitchen, the bar, our server, all of the above? On the ride back on the shuttle to the second parking lot because the first one was closed due to it being full, other passengers said they also had to wait entirely too long. While we as a group of girls can make the evening memorable and still enjoy each others company, this experience was not enjoyable. read more

First time at a restaurant that needed a shuttle to accommodate for insufficient parking. Ambiance was nice, it's probably more enjoyable in the summer time. Food was decent, it's a small menu which isn't bad as long as it's executed properly. Our service was slow, we had 6:30 reservations and didn't leave until 9:30. Went to lunch here because me and my partner love it so much and it usually is very good and good service but today, oh my god. I asked for a chocolate martini like i did BEFORE and so i ordered it. First it came with no whipped cream which was fine so i asked "hey it usually comes with whipped cream no?" But the waitress says "no but i can ask them to put to put some" and so she did and this is what comes back to me. For a 13 DOLLAR DRINK are you kidding me? Sooo, been to this places few times now. First couple of times were ok. Portions are bit small for the price, but oh well. This time was unusually terrible. We were seated (2 people) in front of the main doorway to the patio, next to the bar. A bit awkward, but we didn't complain. The food, don't know WTF happened in the last few months. The burger was extremely poor quality, sooo greasy that the bun was nearly disintegrated. It tasted like nothing but grease and salt. Choked it down because we were hungry. (Regret). I ordered the wood fired shrimp and scallops with grilled lemon. What I got was sautéed , no sign of any lemon. The dish had never seen any wood fires, but it was served in a half inch pool of oil. I asked for the lemon and they brought me a couple of small slices like you get with a cocktail. My dad and sisters' meals looked ok. Service was good... overworked but they were keeping up. This is a world class dining delight in the gorgeous green countryside outside of Reading PA. The charming Roadhouse exterior leads to a cozy bar and indoor dining, which expands to a bigger bar and tiered dining space with full window views of the endless tree tops. We visited for tapas at the bar on Friday night, enjoying specialty cocktails suggested by friendly bartenders, and were fortunate to meet the owner, who clearly loves the hospitality business and sets the warm, friendly tone for the venue. Excellent live music filled the air but did not overwhelm the space. Returning for brunch on Sunday revealed lots of options including an extensive omelet bar. The pace was joyful and unhurried, accentuated again by live music which sometimes includes world renowned talent like David Cullen of Windham Hill Records fame. I'm surprised by the 3* reviewers who have no solid criticisms, seems very suspect. All in all, Doc and Bubba's is a memorable dining experience, well worth going the extra miles. read more

Okay I've been to Doc and Bubba's a few times since it opened. The patio and view are amazing, but I've got to say it does not make up for the lack of service and terrible food. After our first visit we thought "They just opened, it will get better". We came back with family that were in from Florida, they ordered lobster and it smelled like ammonia - we were embarrassed when they returned it the kitchen. Now, this evening we stopped in for a quick bite. Wanted to sit on the patio. We asked how long the wait was, we were told " we don't provide wait times". We waited an hour. The manager assured us the kitchen would remain open until everyone waiting was seated. As soon as we sat down the waitress says " the kitchen is closing". The live music played past 9, but we felt rushed. We ordered the Bang-bang shrimp - boy has that gone down hill. App came out and we had no silverware. We tried to flag down our server to no avail. We caught a busser and asked for silverware, only to be told "I will try to find you some". Apparently they were too busy to wrap it! I would taken it unwrapped! By the time it came out the shrimp was cold and my wife's fingers were a mess from eating with her hands. We ordered a salad and pizza to split. Southwest salad is 95% lettuce with some corn, beans, and tortillas strips topped with an uninspiring piece of chicken (likely precooked). The short rib pizza was LOADED with jalapeños - could not taste anything else. After scrapping off the jalapeños, I realized the pizza dough was less than great. We so badly wanted to like the place. My recommendation is to skip the food and just enjoy a drink, with a great view, and live entertainment. read more
