We discovered this place last year when we were in the area for the Pagoda Hillclimb. Loved everything about it! The food (delicious), the service ( impeccable) and the atmosphere ( untouchable). The staff from the president, manager and on down to the servers were so warm and welcoming that it felt like home. Love it best when the weather is nice and they have the glass door/windows open for the fresh air and breeze. Feels like you're dining outside- minus bugs and sun glare. In the half dozen or so trips I make to The Knight's Pub each year, I've never been disappointed. This place really offers the total package - ambiance, service, food, drink - you name it. The lighting could be a bit dark for some, but it doesn't hide the clean, modern decor. During warmer months, the dining area is opened up, and patrons can feel a cool breeze as they chow down on an offering of any number of steak, seafood, and pasta dishes. There is also standard pub fare, including an assortment of over a dozen variations of burgers. I would recommend this place to anyone - locals and visitors alike. If dining on Friday or Saturday, play it safe and place a reservation. As an added bonus, The Knight's Pub also serves up Sunday brunch from 11 am - 3 pm! Is there a better way to round out a weekend than with an omelet and mimosas? I think not. read more

Drove 2 hours with my family to eat at the Knights Pub for my Wife's birthday and the snarky Hostess who worked there said at 725 pm we were not able to be seated at a table but the bar was ok. I read on the website the kitchen was closed at 8pm. This happened on May 14th. I said I have a 12 year old daughter with us and we can eat food at the bar but not a table. Asked if there was anything else she can do and All the Hostess said was "no"with a condescending tone in her voice "no more seating tonight" and we walked out. Earlier I called ahead and ask about reservations and was told no reservations was possible so we had no choice besides running a little late because of traffic and weather. My complaint is the Hostess lack of professionalism nasty attitude is the issue. Will never go to ths restaraunt with people like the Hostess representing it. read more

What a delightful place to eat! First off the atmosphere is very hard to beat. When the weather is nice the walls are open to the outside and it's simply the nicest place to eat I can think of. The food was good, from the burger to the salad to the tortellini and shrimp we all were pleased with our food. The beer selection isn't stellar but we found something good to drink on draft. Our server, Becky, was attentive and did a great job of keeping us happy. This is our second time here and we've been very pleased both times. Worth the drive up to Reading. read more

We went on a Friday night and except for one notable thing - had a good experience. First the good: Despite an overworked staff - the wait staff were responsive and good and professional - a good experience. Our food was well done and very tasty - we had a special lamb appetizer that was quite good; my wife's salad with pecan crusted chicken was good and my special pork was really very good - well done! The ambiance were fine - nice windows (we got to view a wedding party - nice)! So the wait staff and kitchen were quite nice but what was not pleasant was the backoffice/management representative (who also seemed a good bit harried - maybe a bad day). We had an admittedly old gift card complete with receipt that we found when cleaning out my father-in-law's papers - the Knight's Pub gift card along with 3 others for restaurants all dating from the same period. The 3 others we have used successfully with no problem - the KP one was not accepted (nothing on the mag strip - from that time frame no huge surprise but we did have the receipt et al, knew it had never been used, and the gift card was for well less than half of the dinner cost). The person was somewhat apologetic but frankly unprofessional in their language and lack of customer focus. Despite the good food I will NOT be returning to the Knight's Pub again. read more

Another great experience dining here. They have a new Wednesday family meal deal for 30$ that is a great bargain. This week it was tilapia with lobster sauce, a great bbq chicken, filet, Brussels with bacon, roasted potatoes; comes with salad and bread. I was really looking forward to this place but the food was not good and the staff poorly trained. The grounds are lovely, the huge floor to ceiling windows surround the dining room and you can walk out to a stone patio with a huge gas fire pit. Great atmosphere! Our meal was weak with the exception of the champagne scallop soup and wanton wrapped shrimp which were AMAZING. The wine list and mixed drink options were surprisingly limited, which was disappointing. We started with crab stuffed mushrooms which were soggy. The bacon Brussel sprouts were under cooked, and the seafood chopino was way over seasoned with oregano and basil. I had a fish taco which was a generous portion for only $3 and tasted good until I got a bite of the breaded fish which was rotten. The GM did take it off our bill. Our waitress was also poorly trained with many issues throughout the meal - just one example was my husband wanted a rum and coke but asked what kind of rum. She didn't know and went to ask. 10 minutes later she returned stating that she couldn't ask the bartender and didn't know. So he asked for any dark rum that wasn't spiced. When he got his drink he asked what rum they used and she didn't know; however when we tried it, it was clearly some kind of blended scotch. I'd go back to give them a second chance because this place has SO much potential and maybe it was an off night but I don't think I'd go there hungry and I wouldn't recommend it to a foodie. read more

Beautiful environment, especially when there is a fire on the patio and they open the huge windows. Food & drink selection are OK, but it is the mountain top location that draws us and not the other stuff. Historic building is fascinating -- look up the history. Main dining room is a hotspot for anniversaries if you prefer heavy traditional food. I'd love to see them lighten it up a little with fresher and more modern choices. Sometimes there are half-price appetizers in the bar, but overall, it is not an inexpensive choice. read more

Always enjoyed this place but becoming more disappointing lately. Food is always good and a very nice atmosphere but the service is becoming increasingly bad. Last two visits were very long waits till a waitress would even come to our table. Once she served our drinks an food, she never returned. We waited 1/2 hour to get our drinks refilled. You just couldn't get any service here. Our previous visit we had the same problem with waitresses. When you pay $17 for a burger it would be nice to have some service too. If next visit isn't any better we won't be returning. read more

I ordered a Margarita~it was all ice. I think I just bought 12 worth of ice. Margarita was a total rip off. Our NY strip steaks were fatty, husband ordered med. well but got med. rare. they closed the doors early and the acoustics and noise were terrible. First off, the Knight's Pub is connected to Stokesay Castle. So, in all seriousness, you are eating in and around a castle. A castle! The scenery and the overall look of the establishment is lofty. The ceilings are high which throws off the acoustics a bit unless the windows are open. The martinis are delicious. The list is a range to choose from with particular themes. The menu offers some pub food but also has unique sandwiches and other entrees. It definitely has vegetarian friendly choices. The Grilled Cheese and Tomato basil soup is a favorite of mine. It tastes like comfort and feels warm like home. I usually get mixed field greens instead of the fries. But I hear the fries are delicious. The field greens have never been overdressed and are usually crisp and fresh. There is often live music or a dj playing. The restaurant and bar is very open air so it can get loud. Generally, they have specials so it is worth checking out the website before going. Check out the fire pit in the back for cool ambience. read more

Don't let the cheesy giant knight statue at the entrance fool you - this bar is actually really cool. The main bar/dining area is huge with soaring ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out on to the grass and fire-pit patio. Do yourself a favor and take your drink outside to the fire pit area! This is a unique space perfect for a day with nice weather. Even if it's on the cold side, the gas fire actually gives off a lot of warmth. If you have kids, they can burn off energy on the grassy area just beyond the patio. Inside, the bar area has TV's playing sports. There were a mix of families and couples eating in the restaurant, and a big range of ages, from 20-somethings up to retirees (this was on the early side of dinner time on a Saturday). There was a wedding going on next door in their event space. Yes, the menu is expensive, and if it weren't for that, Knight's Pub would be five stars. We just ordered sandwiches and soups for dinner, which was plenty filling and cheaper than ordering from the entree section of the menu. It does seem silly to have a pretty casual environment with such an expensive entree menu, but the menu is big enough that there are plenty of lower priced options to choose from. Champagne scallop soup - really tasty, but very rich. Order a cup because a bowl is too much richness to comfortably eat. Black & Blue burger - good, standard. Service at both the bar and table were attentive, and our waitress was especially outgoing and friendly, and wiling to give recommendations on the menu. read more

What a beautiful view! When we were there it was brunch which means limited menu. :( The bartender gave me a few suggestions one being the grilled cheese and tomato soup with a side of greens. There were four of us that wanted to go to Sunday brunch on Sunday, January 3rd. The website specifically listed that date for Sunday brunch from 11 to 3. Two of us had also called the phone number and got a recording stating that they were open. We got there at 11:30 and there were no employees around, the doors were locked and there were lights on inside but nobody answered the door. We wound up going somewhere else instead. I was VERY upset about this!!! NOW, every time I call there to get an explanation as to why they were not open, I get a recording. No matter what time of the day or night I call I get a recording. Too bad, as this place got more popular they are now price gouging. 2 years ago fish and chips $6.99, today $24!. The menu is now filled with $30 entries! WTF? . You are not Stokesay! This is Berks County and you're a pub! What's worse, the food took a step back, totally embarrassed I took my mother-in-law here. Too bad, great setting and atmosphere, but forget the dinner menu. The prices are an insult. Stick to the sandwiches and appetizers (although even the sandwiches are now over priced). The beer towers are still a bargain, but when they double them in prices I'm out. Service - our waitress was great. Really funny, sweet and attentive. Took off the drink I ordered without me even asking (after noticing i didn't much care for it) and was eager to please. A+++ Apps - i got the calamari. Cooked well, good portion, yum! Beau got the shrimp and wasabi wrapped in wonton wrappers. Beautiful presentation, fell flat on flavor. Entrées - i got the lobster risotto. Here's the struggle: i really appreciate the sheer amount of lobster that was in the dish. That's a rarity, and that was nice. But the risotto itself was undercooked, the veggie pick (peas and carrots) added nothing to it, and unlike the description, there was bacon subbed for pancetta. Not sure if the shipping line issue is why pancetta was not on hand, but because of the intense flavor bacon can have, it can and did drown out the lobster flavor. For $24, I would not choose again. Beau got a chicken dish stuffed with ham, mushrooms and provolone. The chicken itself was delish as well as the sauce on it. Beautifully executed. On either side were roasted red potatoes and zucchini. Both sides took up more space than the chicken, and both were way underseasoned and tasted like an afterthought. Also $24, and if the sides were jazzed up, I'd say it would be worth it. Dessert - split chocolate mousse cake and that was decadent, seriously, on point. Would go there just for that. Ambiance was lovely, really enjoyed it opened up, and would like to return to see how it is during winter. Really beautiful spot. Final thought? Guys, I know it's Reading. I know there are plenty of well to do folks that patronize and pay that kind of money because the general food lanscape here is bland at best. And while I can't do a $75.00 bill for two ALL the time, I am more than happy to if the food is on point. Too many misses to be regular at that cost. I have been going here for years, usually on my birthday. The owner was usually present and would make rounds to the customers. Service was pretty good. Last year, service went down. The waitress had an awful attitude. Last night sealed the deal for me. I don't think I will go back. We planned a surprise party for a friend. The woman who helped take care of it was the only positive thing about the experience. She made sure to not let on what was happening. After that, it all went downhill. Service sucked and the place was literally empty. There were three tables of groups. We had about 15 people. I don't want to go in forever but we had to ask multiple times for refills, food took forever, drink orders were still unfilled 30 minutes later. The server would come by, attend to one person and leave without asking anyone else if they wanted anything. It was if they had never served a party before. Left a bad taste in my mouth from a pace that I used to enjoy going to. read more

We took my parents there for their Birthday. There were small gnats flying around our table all night, one flew in my wine. The server was very nice but the service was very, very slow. We waited 15 minutes for our first drinks to come and they forgot our second round. This is a sports bar/pub with fine dining prices. For the prices they charge, we expected a lot better. The only thing that saved the evening was that the food was amazing. The food may bring us back but probably not. There are too many good restaurants out there to waste our money waiting in this one. read more

I've been here twice and both times was very disappointed by the food. This time the server was really bad too. She was not friendly and after I told her I was vegan and I didn't want any butter, cheese, or milk in my food, both the appetizer and my meal came out with animal products (a dip and butter). She also didn't check in during the entire meal which took around 45 minutes to come out. The fire pit, however was lovely and the outdoor space is beautiful. Though not my first foray here it was by far the best one yet. My FILTHY martini was shaken to perfection. My filet was just past mooing (just way I like it) and the shrimp dip appetizer was better than any cruddy hot cheese dip I've ever had- ANYWHERE. Updating my previous review. Our most recent trip here was not as satisfactory as the previous. The service was pretty terrible. When we arrived, all the doors were open to the outside and it was cool and comfortable. Within 5 minutes they were closing the doors because it was 'going to rain'. At the time, it was already spritzing, but it wasn't windy and no rain was coming in, so why bother? Well it didn't rain. The humidity was trapped inside and it quickly became extremely uncomfortable. Last time I was there they had these great activity packs to keep kids occupied. Not this time apparently. I even asked my server about them specifically. Well, because of the poor service, we were there for almost 2 hours with a 3 year old. He wasn't losing his mind, but it could have gone a lot smoother. We were not eating, just waiting for probably an hour and 15 minutes of that time. Before we ordered our food I inquired about a tour of he castle after dinner and supposedly the hostess could do it. We never got around to it because we were just so happy to get out of there! Let me add, we arrived just before 5. Certainly not peak times. There were only 3-4 other occupied tables during most of our meal. My husband asked if they had dr. pepper. Server replied yes, only to come back out 10 minutes later to tell him no. He forgot to bring the breadbasket until I mentioned it to him when he brought our food. At that time he responded, "yes, I was just going to bring that out" By then, we would rather just eat our food. Our party labeled him the "bundler". He only brought food out when he could serve multiple tables at the same time. For example, we waited 20 minutes for our dessert, which came out with the next tables entrees. I'm certain our desserts were done before that! Also, he piled dirty dishes on the tray with food he was bringing out to serve, which I think is gross. Overall, the food was great, but the service was horrendous. This visit only warranted a 2 Star, so I did an average between the 2. We will most likely be back, but I hope they can redeem themselves. read more

You really do have to head atop of the mountain in Reading,Pa for a bite to eat at this pub. Set in the picturesque mountain woodlands above the city of Reading,Pa.,in a Castle, Stokesay Castle. Yes it was built to replicate a castle. Wonderful Place. I ate at the Pub with my family whom are all above 21 years of age. We enjoyed some of the handful of appetizers offered,which were portioned for 1,maybe 2 people. I then enjoyed the fish sandwich & the potato salad along with a nice cold beer. Very good,esp for the $. Beer, wine, mixed drinks along with beer towers are offered. In the warm months the pub,which is basically enclosed with sliding glass doors,opens up to the fresh mountain air and spills over to an outdoor dining area fashioned with a fire pit. The atmosphere here is one that makes you want to return. Nice place! read more

Last two visits to the pub the service was very slow and the food was fair to poor. My mother-in-law ordered the lobster and she said it was the worse she has ever had anywhere. It was so chewy that she couldn't eat it. It was her Birthday so we wanted to take her out for a nice meal. We were very disappointed and will probably not eat there again. Was with a party of 6, it wasn't a good night. Drink service was slow.. After an hour 4 meals were served, all sandwiches & most servings of french fries were cold! At that point, we asked for a manager because we had decided it was best we go somewhere else to eat! However the manager gave us a $20 gift card..which is insulting considering only 1 person can eat for $20! I would be VERY cautious about eating here! read more
