During my late teenage years my baby sister worked here afterschool so you know this was totally nostalgic for me to be passing by the area early on an Easter morning ride back from NJ. As I got closer I called because it was a holiday and absolutely delighted to be helped on such a beautiful day in the neighborhood. **They are cash only** Several cars were doubled parked towards the end of the block picking up flowers so I parked a few doors down and stepped inside. They had a beautiful tray of assorted pastries which I failed to take a photo of and I just HAD to have it. It had cannoli, cheese cake, cream puffs the works! I was looking for a birthday cake for my Puerto Rican granny and chose an Oreo cake over a strawberry shortcake and surprisingly I did not get clobbered over the head by my mother lol. She looked unpleased when I removed it from the box but when she ate it. I was like bang boom TOUCHDOWN! She said it was soft and moist and fluffy and light. The chocolate had the perfect amount of sweetness I must agree. Plus I already won when I brought home some Easter bread for the family to share. The only comment I got there was why didn't I buy a bigger loaf. I bought a cute little slipper shaped one with one egg and they had many options which was great. I see folks were coming in and out for cappuccinos and if I wasn't already wire from an early morning drive I would have Indulged. The cake was $25, the tray $20 and the Easter bread was about $10 if I can recall. I had 3 baby shower cakes from here 17 years ago and that's how good they were then. Super happy to see them still thriving and pumping out the good stuff. Only thing I will say is what's with the writing? I was hoping for classic script and the weekend crew gave me a very scribble "Gramma" in red. My family was like why did they spell it like that. This place smells SO GOOD. Came in here with a few friends after eating next door. The staff members were very professional and fast. There was a wide assortment of cookies and cakes to choose from. I've never seen a bakery with so many different options of the jelly cookies that are half dipped in chocolate. (my favorite) This is the perfect cookie heaven to go to! After ordering cakes from Ciro's Bakery multiple times, I'm sorry to say that they'll no longer have my business. I ordered a cake for my brother's 30th birthday and knew the cake wasn't gonna look exactly like the picture provided, but I didn't think the cake would look so unprofessionally done. I tried calling the bakery several times to figure out what can be done about this, only to be told Maria, the boss, is the only one who could help me with this. I finally spoke with Maria who didn't even give me the opportunity to show her the pictures of what I was talking about and ultimately said to me, "I gotta go" and proceeded to hang up on me. I tried calling her again and she didn't answer the phone. I am astounded that the boss of such a reputable bakery would treat their customers with such lack of respect that they wouldn't even allow them the opportunity to finish a conversation and furthermore, send them pictures. Maria has told me she wouldn't see the pics until tomorrow but already made up her mind about no refunds...but she'll make me a new cake if I wanted to. Why would I want a cake made again after being treated so rudely? Afterwards, I spoke with the woman who initially took my order who then said she would talk to her boss about my options. She calls me back to say the boss saw the pics and said the cake was beautiful? 1. How did you see the cake suddenly when you said you would see the pictures tomorrow? 2. How can a cake be beautiful with a dowel sticking out. 3. Why are pieces of the cake different colors. 4. Why is the fondant so horribly done? The trimming isn't even connected!! I grew up in the Rockaways and Ciro's Pastry moved in shortly after I moved away. But, I still return to the area for visits and often stop in at Ciro's. We didn't have an Italian bakery in Belle Harbor before Ciro's; I remember Italian family friends bringing such baked goods from Brooklyn or Manhattan. They did a good job filling a need (they've been around a long while now and have a steady customer stream). The owners and friendly and have become part of the neighborhood. And, it didn't hurt that an existing good neighborhood bakery (Jewish, not Italian) closed up shop at about the time this opened. Good selection of Italian cookies and pastries, including traditional items such as sfogliatelle (even when some of the younger workers don't know the correct pronunciation). Nice bread too. Jewish and other items as well which satisfy the local customer base. Good cakes. Nice enough atmosphere to stop at one of the few tables over a pastry and some coffee. But, coffee is a weak spot here. Disappointingly, they don't make a proper cappuccino (difficult to find in Rockaway). To be fair, there may be a slight Rockaway neighborhood bias in my rating. read more

I have always used Ciro's for our family parties/events. I found it odd when I came in a month ago to place an order for a Baptism cake that I was told the order didn't need to be placed until 4-5 days before the event. I came back two more times, before they would even take my order. I had a picture of the type of cake I was looking for and was told that the cake would be made of two 10 inch rounds with fondant icing, chocolate cake-chocolate mousse filling, with blue roses on top. I also ordered two dozen cupcakes with light blue perils. The woman called to confirm order and pricing, and I stopped in the bakery again to double check that everything was set. (I did not however get a copy of the slip she was writing everything down on, which I would recommend everyone else to do). The morning of the Baptism we picked up: cupcakes with royal blue sprinkles that were smashed into a box, a two tiered cake that was one big layer, one little layer, butter cream icing, grey/off white roses, and the best part ... when we finally cut it ... it was vanilla. The bakery basically told us to take it or leave it, and that it would taste good. The cake did taste good, but I didn't pay $250 to have a surprise cake and non-matching cupcakes. I'm sorry to say that I won't be using Ciro's again. read more

Too far away from a subway station (the Rockaway Beach boardwalk doesn't reach past Beach 126th Street) and the front was full of local pro-Trump old timers parroting GOP talking points. They lost a customer today. I put in an order for a cake on Friday. The counter person who took the order screwed up the pick up date and no cake was there on Saturday. The next day's counter person was not helpful. "Well, the cake's not here. You can pick something else from the case." No apology. No offer of a discount. No manager was present to assist, so the poorly trained young lady was helpless and useless. I may have to travel further, but I won't be buying cakes here anymore. read more

I used to live in the North End (Little Italy) of Boston, renowned for their pastries. and this place comes closer to that level of quality more than any other in NYC. It is just a pity it is so far outside Manhattan, and I have to wait for the summer months when beach going to enjoy it. Is not as good as when it first opened as far as selection. I called the Thursday before Mother's Day to ask if they carried Tara Masue, a staple in Italian bakeries. They told me to call back Sunday morning which I did at 8:00 am. They said call back in two hours which I did and they again said to call back in two hours. I decided to walk there and arrived at about 11:30 am. The store was empty and the showcases were nearly empty - and this was on Mother's Day no less! Also, they don't take credit cards - cash only. Who doesn't take credit cards these days? Even Dunkin Donuts and the bagel store take credit cards. While I did buy one of the few cakes on display next time I will go to Stop and Shop which has a wider selection and is a decent bakery for a supermarket. read more

RUDE woman at the counter. Came in to spend a nice chunk of change on cookies to bring back home to DC for 4th of July weekend. Walked in and was looking at the selection. After a couple minutes an older lady came out of the back with a crabby attitude and said "what's wrong with these people? Can't they read the sign on the door? They're going to get us shut down!" All the customers just looked at each other and I decide at this point I wasn't giving this place any of my money. So I take a look at one of the MANY signs on the door and one reads something along the lines of "only 3 customers allowed in the store". This is due to Covid. I was customer #4 and yes, I did have a mask on. I'm totally cool with the store having strict rules due to the pandemic and it's my bad for not seeing the sign posted. However, you don't refer to customers as "these people" and you could have nicely asked me to wait outside until it was my turn. I'm ok with that. The fact that this woman actually raised her rude voice left me no choice but to take my business elsewhere. Went to Kings Highway bakery in Brooklyn for delicious cookies and friendly service. Nice neighborhood bakery, the only one I know of in the vicinity. I love coming here for a latte, their coffee is fantastic and staff are always friendly. The pastries I've tried (the cheese cake, fruit tarts, blueberry muffin and cream puffs) have all been disappointing so I stick to the coffee. Of all the bakeries I shop, Ciro's in Rockaway Park has the most wonderful cookies. I have tried to find better and have not. Ofcourse there is Levain and others in NYC with their niche cookies, but here good old standard butter cookies with cream are worht the trip from NYC. The cookies are delicate and crumble softly. The coffee is always good and for Rockaway, that is something special. Worth the trip for a walk on the boardwalk or to Riis Park, but stop here for cookies and coffee. read more

Omg, this place is divine! I love it here, the pastries are so delicious that I literally walk over a mile just to indulge in the sweetness here. I've tried a handful of pastries and unfortunately I don't know the names but I will eventually so hopefully my descriptions suffice. Again, it's on 129th which is a small block of with a handful of businesses so parking is super tight and you will encounter the nightmare of double parking during peak hours. But...it's worth it. The place itself is super clean and the ladies working here seem sweet enough. The only issue I have is that it is cash only. :/ So, bring cash! I tried their napoleons, the chocolate mousse, the plain cheesecake and my absolute favorite this one strawberry cake pastry. I would eat everything all over again if I could. They also make an assortment of cookies and breads, which I have yet to try. Overall, I would definitely be making pitstops here. read more
