Doc Taylor's is definitely a hole in the wall breakfast spot! It's a historical house that turned into a restaurant. It's a great local place to eat classic American breakfasts and drinks for a good price. There's always a wait time if you go during tourist season but there's a bar and outdoor seating to buy the time. Parking: Doc Taylor's shares a parking lot in the back of the restaurant with Tautogs (the restaurant next to it for dinner). It's limited parking on a first come first serve basis. If you do not find parking in the lot, it's street parking unfortunately that's metered. Food: I ordered the Dr. Kathryn's Single Shot and The Right Side for my boyfriends son. We added chocolate chips to the pancakes and he loved them. Bacon was nice and crispy on both dishes. Eggs were cooked over easy and my toast was perfectly toasted. My hash browns were cold and tasted stale. The server was able to send me a fresh plate of hash browns with no issues. Service: My server was Lauren and she gave us great service! Quick and attentive to our needs! We had a mishap where I took my boyfriends son to the bathroom (he's too little to go on his own). When we came back, the busser cleared our table and food. I was pretty much done with mine so I didn't mind, but my boyfriends son was upset about his pancakes. Our server was able to order the same short stack on the house for this issue. I've been to Doc Taylor's over the years and it just seems like the restaurant needs a little face lift. I understand it's supposed to be divey, but the air smelled kind of musky and the flies in the restaurant were a little out of control that it turns me off from wanting to visit as often. read more

We loved our breakfast experience here! We had a 15 minute wait on a weekday around 1pm, which we spent at the bar next door getting happily tipsy on cheap mimosas and grey hounds. The bartender and our server were both lovely and attentive. As for the food- yum! As a New Yorker, I take my breakfast sandwiches very seriously and the Doc Taylor did not disappoint! I subbed chicken sausage for bacon and hash browns for the grilled potatoes. The sandwich was delicious and I loveeeddd the tomato. The only semi annoying part was that I was charged an extra dollar for each substitution, but bacon is the same price as chicken sausage and hash browns as potatoes on the menu. Ahhh well. My husband loved his sweet potato pecan pancakes as well! The cheddar grits were a miss for us both, even though they were cooked + creamy, they were really bland.. I added quite a bit of Tabasco and still left most of the dish on the table. Prices are a great point. Superrrr affordable and something on the menu for everyone! This local restaurant is located in between Atlantic Ave and Pacific Ave on 23rd St. Super cute and unassuming. Prices are reasonable to feed your family, so I'm sure it's a hit with tourists during the summer also. They have a parking lot in the back of the restaurant. If you park on the street in front of the restaurant, you have to pay. My husband is a local who has never tried this restaurant until now. He had the biscuit & sausage gravy. He loved it. He got a side of red potatoes and bacon. I got "The Left Side" which I had scrambled with Monterey Jack cheese, bacon and French toast. So good. Simple. Not pretentious. Great place. Wow. What a fabulous, no nonsense local gem! Had a great low-key brunch here earlier this week. We stopped in around 1pm so it was really dead here - like 3 people on the patio and a person or two at the bar. No other tables. Our server was really friendly and easily answered menu questions and questions about the establishment since it was our first visit I asked. The menu is simple, low cost, and has a range of items to please everyone. My friend chose the french toast for breakfast with breakfast potatoes and sides of sausage and hash browns. Big hit on everything and loved the french toast. I chose to get the lighter fare and did the granola pancakes with eggs and a small side of fruit. Those granola pancakes were the bomb.com! I loved them - I ate all of them and I usually never do that. I loved the addition of the granola. Large in size and served with a generous quantity of butter to smear on top and serve your own maple syrup from the table side. I really liked the inside of this place, it's not fancy but is comfy and feels like home. The bathroom was spacious and nice, and it was decorated for Christmas with a tree and lights on the mantle. I'm torn bc I'd love to see this place during the summer tourist season rush. Booming with crowds of people waiting to be seated outside, enjoying drinks, sitting at the patio tables in the sunshine. It was chill and off-season when I came but I also don't want to wait for 2 hours for a table...so.... win some lose some. They have a venue next door where they have live music and drinks and then the venue beside Doc Taylor's on the other side is the nighttime dinner place called Tautog's so all three are same ownership on the same block and all three have this beach-house converted to a business vibe which is so cool. Street parking right out front as well as some spots in the back. When it's peak season I doubt you're going to find parking in either spot so you might have to park and walk a bit - but there is plenty of city parking all around so it wouldn't be too bad. Local gems here I come! Brunching across Virginia Beach is taking me to some awesome spots and I'm loving it! This will be a repeat establishment for sure. I can't wait to come try dinner! read more

A notch above your basic greasy spoon but with a full bar! I had the two eggs, bacon (nice and crispy), hash browns, a biscuit and an Irish coffee (it was almost 9am). What can I say? I am sure that most locals know about Doc Taylor's. It's an amazing brunch spot located in Oceanfront Virginia Beach... You can never go wrong with having a meal here! Not only is it affordable priced but the quality of good and service go hand in hand. I rarely come on the weekend.. if your bold enough to come on a Sunday be prepared to wait about an hour. If your willing to wait they have a separate building on the corner with a full service bar. Most guests have plenty of cocktails as they wait to be seated. I normally come minimum 2 times a month to have brunch here. Mimosas at only $2.75!!!!! And they are delicious. Keep them coming! ... One of the menu items that I can't resist are their signature sweet potato pancakes. They are delicious, fluffy and cooked to perfection. I usually get a short stack and never want to share. The crazy thing is that I really don't care for pancakes but I can't resist these! I would even have them for dessert. They are not overly sweet but they hit the spot! This review is not for the restaurant but solely based on my experience at the bar. Upon entering and approaching the bar, my party of 3 were not acknowledged. Even AFTER inquring about service, our request was met with a lackluster "Okay" and the two gentleman at the bar proceeded to go abouut their business. Immediately after, the gentleman approached and acknowledged the non-melanated patrons who entered after us with a hearty "Hey, how y'all doing? What can I get for you?". I'm calling a spade a spade. The FOOD: PHHHHHUUUU-KING GOOD. It's very delicious spins on classic dishes is always a win for breakkie lovers out there. We visited during restaurant week... My date and I both ordered the fried goat cheese spinach salad. For entrees, I ordered the pineapple chicken stir fry, and my date had the short rib flatbread. Everything was delicious. The drinks were great, too. We had bloody marys and a greyhound. But the most impressive thing was our server. She was very attentive and friendly. Average for taste and texture. Medium over eggs were a little overcooked but the disappointing surprise was very dry hash browns and not much of them. Coffee was standard. Prices reflect this review. Waitresses are friendly and efficient, but parking can be a pain. Waits can become an issue as the day wears on. A must on your first visit to get old school Virginia Beach feel. read more
