This cafe was the perfect spot to stop into to grab breakfast. I got a yogurt parfait and it was decent. I never had a parfait with plain yogurt, so I wasn't sure how it would taste. But it was OK. I'm not sure I would get a parfait with plain Greek yogurt again though. I did split some pancakes with the family and their pancakes were just okay. This was actually the most disgusting and flavorless food ever. I left the plate how the photo was after trying everything(except the chorizo because it looks like it's been sitting in a pan marinating for days then warmed up) The waffle was the most tolerable, but wasn't cooked all the way threw The eggs were ordered scrambled and honestly not even ketchup could save those if it wanted too. They wasn't a pinch of seasoning, and it was extremely bland(how do you make eggs bland??? They didn't even taste like eggs) The bacon was just disgusting. Their orange juice is also disgusting tasted like bottom of a plastic container it had been sitting in(not cold at all). but aside from the food being complete trash ... The waitress was very sweet. I told the front desk when I went to pay the food was actually disgusting because I couldn't bring myself to say it to the older lady serving me. But they didn't offer to doc the price or anything(which whatever it was only 35$, idc but to someone else that is a LOT of money for a meal) And the place sucks at cleaning. The table and seat was sticky, so I asked for a rag or napkin to wipe it off. They did but the tables need more then just a rag wipe down the amount of syrup that had been spilled on the table needs actual cleaning not just a slightly wet already sticky towel. I sound like a complete bth- I know. But this was so so disappointing, wouldn't even bother giving it a second chance. So dissapointing. read more

I called ahead to confirm that my service dogs would be allowed before visiting. When my family and I arrived, we were met with a very unpleasant attitude from Zoey. She made several faces at us and, instead of helping us get seated, avoided us entirely while assisting other guests. Even one of her coworkers noticed the behavior and appeared uncomfortable with how we were being treated. My service dogs are well trained, clean, and well-behaved so I don't understand why we were treated this way, especially after confirming in advance that they were welcome. I do want to mention that our waiter was excellent. He was kind, professional, and treated both us and our dogs with respect, which we truly appreciated. If your business says it is dog friendly, that should also extend to treating guests with service dogs in a welcoming and respectful manner. read more

I hate to leave a negative review, but I think people should know about our experience. While we were there, the people sitting at the table beside us found a cockroach on their table. Seeing that completely changed our minds about eating there. We had only ordered drinks, so we paid for them and left before ordering any food. It really made us question the cleanliness of the restaurant. Based on what we witnessed, I wouldn't recommend eating here until the pest issue is addressed. As we were leaving, a staff member chased us outside, accusing us of not paying, even though we had already paid for our drinks. That was extremely embarrassing and very unprofessional. Between witnessing the cockroach and how we were treated afterward, I would not recommend this restaurant. We came in to eat with our family and ordered drinks while looking over the menu. Before we could order food, the family sitting next to us found a cockroach on their table. After seeing that, we decided we no longer wanted to eat there, so we asked for our check, paid for our drinks, and left. As we were walking out, an employee followed us outside, accusing us of not paying for food and saying they were calling the police. The problem is, we never even ordered any food--only drinks, which we had already paid for. This was an embarrassing and frustrating experience. Between seeing a cockroach in the dining area and then being falsely accused of not paying, we definitely won't be back. I wouldn't recommend eating here unless you wanna be eating with bugs. read more

Typical diner feel. It was very busy but they take your name and call or text you when your table is ready. Our waitress, Shannon, was excellent. Our food was taking a very long time but she kept us informed and let us know the kitchen was running behind. Prices are decent but I have to admit, my steak and cheese sandwich fell flat. There was hardly any meat or cheese. The bread was good though. My friend had the pancake combo. She did not like the bacon. The pancakes are HUGE and heavy. She had a coffee to drink and I had the Uncle Sam Irish coffee. The flavor was perfect and just a hint of bourbon. Park on the street or in a garage. They do not have their own parking lot and you will get towed if you park in the one beside the building. Overall, slightly disappointed in the food but Shannon was fabulous. read more

The breakfast here is delicious! The menu is huge and they offer a good selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. I had the Athenian omelette with a side of bacon but there were so many things that sounded good. Our server was quick and friendly. Worst customer service ever. We arrived with a party of 6 and they did not want to seat us all. We ultimately decided to leave and paid for our drinks. The cashiers up front threw the check at us, waitress threw menus, and manager wasn't very helpful. Would not recommend. Yumtastic!! The cafe is real homey and smells absolutely divine. Our waitress, Erica was super helpful and one of the most attentive servers we have had in a long time. Our breakfast was yummilicious! My husband had the Sunnyside supreme omelet. It is the best omelet I have ever tasted, hands down!! And yes, I said my husband ordered it. lol So, we will be back to Sunnyside Cafe before me leave VA so I can order it and have all to myself! I have a the French toast combo with GF bread. The flower petal shaped waffles is a genius shape for proper measured bites. The corned beef hash was made from Brisket and not canned meat. This again..genius! I returned the following morning, but for a to-go order. Both visits were breakfast food experiences. The dine-in experience was very good. The customer service was very good and the food was good. In my opinion the food is comparable to other diners in the surrounding area of Atlantic Avenue with regard to quality and portion size. This restaurant is a good option for early morning breakfast and they accommodate large groups. They experience a rush during peak breakfast hours, so plan accordingly or consider making reservations if you can. I'll visit again when in the area. Given them a try. read more

Had the opportunity to visit this place while on vacation. The customer service was a bit wonky honestly but we tried not to let it bother us too bad. We had a party of 7 & they seated us at a table for 6 & kept hinting that we needed to rearrange our seating so the fire code wasn't violated. However, after they realized that there was no room for us to rearrange & that our seating was their fault, they let it go & then moved us to a different table with more space. The seating is very compact & the inside is noisy & busy. (The noise didn't bother us, but if you're looking for a quiet/cozy breakfast spot then keep searching.) The food was REALLY good! Nice sized portions & flavorful. ‼ Things to know ‼ 1. Prepare to wait a bit especially if you're visiting on the weekends. 2. If you're on the waitlist, please pay attention to the time they TEXT you & tell you that your table is ready. They will only hold your table for 5 minutes! 3. If you have a large party, decide who is paying BEFORE you dine. They do not allow separate checks & they will only split the bill in half. (They do have this posted on the front door, but if you go during a busy time you WILL miss it due to the foot traffic -because we surely did!) 4. You will have to pay for parking unless you walk there! There is a parking lot located in the back of the building. Were there for maybe 1.5-2h & paid about $9. --- Park BEFORE you get on the waitlist! We were told there was a 20min wait & so we thought we had time to find parking. It was a beautiful day in Virginia Beach at the Ocean Front yesterday. It was sunny, there was light breeze, the air was cool, and it was not too humid. It was a wonderful day to go get some breakfast at the Sunnyside Cafe and Restaurant. This was my first time eating here and the whole experience was wonderful. The first thing I noticed as was how clean the floor, tables and chairs were. The staff greeted my date and I and led us to our table. The waitress also greeted us and gave us menus. She seemed like she enjoyed her job. I ordered the Sampler B. The sampler consists of two eggs With crispy bacon, pork sausage (links or patty), two buttermilk pancakes & half Belgian waffle. I chose the patties instead of links.I also modified my order by adding an extra egg, adding cheese to my eggs, and adding extra pork sausage patties. The drinks were coffee and a cup of water. The taste of the food was amazing. The eggs were fluffy, fresh, and melted in my mouth. The waffle and pancakes with the syrup I added was so delicious, light, and sweet that I could have floated in the air in delight. The patties and bacon were tasty and good. My drinks stayed full. My date enjoyed her food and experience also. The atmosphere was relaxing. There were other customers in the dinning area being served by several waitresses. The restaurant seemed well staffed. We ordered breakfast from here before our fishing trip last weekend since another spot was closed. I looked over their menu like we Yelpers do and took my time to decide what I wanted. Heads up! If you order takeout, they charge you for the plastic wear. It was weird because we paid for it for the credit card online but then needed to have cash to pay for the separate plastic utensils SMH. I do not normally carry cash and was happy that I wasn't by myself and it was paid for. That's the first time I've ever been charged for plastic utensils. And it was a carryout order. Awkward. I went with the two egg breakfast with turkey bacon, home fries, and pancakes. It sounds like a lot of food but it really wasn't. The first thing I noticed when I opened my box was the turkey bacon was that formed turkey bacon like you get from Butterball. Yeah, I wasn't excited about that. The eggs were just regular over hard eggs but the home fries had absolutely no taste or no crisp to them at all. I was so happy the plastic utensils came with salt and pepper. We also ordered a veggie omelette and that was not apealing at all either. We both decided we wouldn't be ordering from them again. My pancakes were good though. I am giving this place three stars because it was very expensive. The normal food stuff was fine but the charge three dollars for a children's pink lemonade that was about 6 ounces of fluid is ridiculous. And two dollars for an orange juice that was the same size. I had a ham and cheese sandwich that was great. The kids did not like their pancakes. The well done bacon I had was good but the bacon that was not well done was not good. The place was packed but there are not tons of places to eat so I'm sure they stay busy. The fries had no flavor at all. They need something. Or to be a different kind of fry. I had high hopes for this brunch spot but unfortunately it just didn't fit our needs. 1st thing I think is important for people to know is that there are NO separate checks. We were not prepared for that. They had some big groups in there too - kids from cheerleading competitions and other groups. I know it's a lot of work but most restaurants will do it. So just be prepared for that. And it's a busy restaurant but not a great waiting area. We kept getting shuffled around and definitely felt in the way. Our wait was only 20 minutes. To help the wait time we ordered mimosas. I don't think many do that. It took a long time for them to get them to us and they put them in styrofoam cups with lids and straws. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable and attentive. I am sorry I didn't get her name. The other thing I didn't like was that our silverware came in plastic bags. Single use plastic for no reason. I hope they reconsider putting silverware in single use plastic. UGH!!! I had the chicken pita which was good but I would have liked more tzatziki sauce. But the flavor was good. Someone else ordered the cinnamon and raisin bread french toast. It looked good but she said the strawberries were not very good and didn't eat most of them. A couple of other things were ordered. Everyone liked most everything but there was no raving. I am not opposed to going back if someone wanted to go but I would personally not suggest it. It's my 30th & i'm not going to sit here & sound spoiled but what a breakfast!!! I went basic & ordered just the French Toast & Turkey bacon(well done) & an orange juice (mimosa). The waitress (Nicci) was quick & very responsive. The Drink was very fresh & gave me a small buzz. The French toast was soft & fluffy. The well done bacon left a made from home taste in my mouth. I ate the whole plate. It was delicious. I will be returning whenever I decide to visit the beach!!! Location is great, The new menu is Covid updated 2021, Drink menu is great, prices is negotiable!
