Since my last review on May 2023 we've visited Docas about dozen of times. Last 2 visits were Dec 9, 23 & Jan 19, 24. We finally were able get Goat Stew without reserving it. Yes! goat stew, it sells out! as do all their daily specials. One thing I noticed that they do is update their online menu daily and the daily specials sell out very quickly. Some of the specials are - rabbit, quail, goat, octopus. If your interested in the specials check the menu online, call and reserve. read more

I love the neighborhood feel of this restaurant. A local's favorite hangout and good Portuguese food with friendly service. We go there regularly and have our favorite dishes and have gotten to know the great staff well. Definitely worth a visit. read more

Stumbled on Doca's with two work colleagues recently and we kept it really simple - grilled chicken over salad. We also tried the fish balls as an appetizer - I think they were cod? Delicious! Not a hint of grease (yes - they were fried) and small enough to enjoy as a shared appetizer. Everyone raved about their salads and even said, "how could something so simple be so good?". The salad dressing is just "oil and vinegar - Portuguese style". Really perfect, actually. Someone also said, "if I made this at home, it wouldn't be this good!". Since we were there for lunch, we all kept it light....but some of the other dishes on the menu sounded (and looked) outstanding. I would definitely go back!! read more

Kind of stumbled into this place just walking around after grabbing a cup of coffee. Very casual, very laid back, very good. We just split a salad and some pork and both were huge portions and super flavorful. We sat at the bar seating. Seemed like a lot of local folks really enjoying themselves and the staff seemed to know everyone. They chatted us up for a bit, and kept bringing us more bread which I wasn't mad about. Get the beans, which sounds like a funny recommendation, but amazing. Went on a Saturday early evening and the place was pretty full. It's a very causal atmosphere. The food is solid. Nothing fancy. Just good Portuguese food. They give you this really nice fresh baked peasant bread. We got the vegetable soup to start. It was a delicious, thick soup It had cabbage and beans. The entrées were very good too. Every few years I forget I've ever been here and go back. The waitress is always nasty, pushy, and disdainful (I know Portuguese culture very well, so it's not that), I suppress an urge to walk out, consume a not-at-all-cheap meal, find it decent but not worth the money (and certainly not the nasty experience), and resolve never to return. Then I forget again and come back. The cycle repeats. I'm a fan of hole-in-walls, don't need anything fancy, but there's a miasma here built up from years of unpleasantness. The room throbs with the opposite of hospitality and generosity. It's an enterprise for absorbing cash and giving back the very minimum of everything. Today I walked in, forgetful again, and the waitress was horrid as always, I looked around, remembered, and walked out without ordering. I've finally mastered Doca's Restaurant. Churrasqueira Ribatejo is a much better experience (and better food), but alas still not fully open. There've been three or four other good Portuguese places in Ossining over past years. But this one deserves a Ghostbusters slash. read more

Avoid. Poor service, with steep prices. Have been there a few times, but the last occasion was toxic. The owner/host can be insulting. The only time in my life I had to leave a restaurant without eating was at this place. I was with my wife and two young children. We got up and left. My wife and I went to Docas despite the so-so reviews. We were looking for something different. Well I am glad we did. The food was excellent and the portions were huge. There did seem to be only one server but she did a very good job of taking care of everyone. My wife and I ordered steaks. Food and drink are an absolute 10. Felt like I was back in Lisbon!!!! Chorizo appetizer a must, as are the grilled shrimp, octopus salad, garlic shrimp, clams verde and sliced ham. Cod and snapper entrees were fresh and delicious, octopus and potatoes were very authentic and the roasted pork, clams, chorizo and pickle dish was insane. ... And so well priced. Family style Portuguese gathering spot with fantastic recipes I'd never tasted in the States. We had greens and homemade sausage soup, olives and bread, chicken blood stew, whole cod, lots of veggie sides. Enormous portions which we gleefully wrapped up for home. This must have been what Duarte's in Pescadero was like in its first years. --A young waitress who could be running the whole country; I loved watching her handle 50 things at once w/o blinking. Doca's is a true Portuguese restaurant. It's also more of a bar than a restaurant, but straddles the two in order to fill the void left by the closing of a larger Portuguese restaurant a few doors down. The owner of Doca's used to work there, and branched out on his own. The bar is not a problem now that smoking is banned, but a lively crowd of my countrymen usually gather at the bar, especially when a soccer game is on the Portuguese channel, which is of course almost daily. Foreigners (aka, Americans) are always graciously attended, though the wait staff doesn't always speak English. Wait for the owner (Abel) or his wife to clarify any questions you might have. The food can be good, but the ingredients used are not always the best (frozen vegetables, for example). Desserts are also hit or miss. If you're Portuguese and live in the area, you don't really care though, as this is one of two remaining Portuguese restaurants in Ossining, so you take what you can get. Now that I'm living in SF with not a single Portuguese restaurant in sight, I definitely miss Doca's. read more

This is one of our favorite lunch spots when we need a break from the office. The service is prompt, the food is usually good and there are invariably a few swarthy gentlemen at the bar. One of my closest friends and his wife always raved about this place and we went there Friday night. While not exactly much to look at and it's byob, I have to say we really enjoyed the food. The sausage appetizer was very tasty, the shrimp prepared butterfly style were large and delicious and the skirt steak was better than I had in restaurants costing double the price. You cannot go wrong here - clams in garlic sauce, house salad, cold mussel appetizer, a steak or any of their daily specials. I ate here for the second time for my fathers birthday. We ordered the oysters app, garlic shrimp app, quail entree, skirt steak, and trout. I love trout and this was very good. It was simply cooked, full fish, served with boiled potatoes and sauteed veg. I topped my fish with the garlic shrimp sauce for extra flavor. The fish was bony but to be expected when prepared this way. The prices are reasonable and you can bring in your own wine with no corking fee. The cappuccinos were excellent along with the service. We had a truly terrible experience at this restaurant. Not only was the service extremely slow but the waitress was exceedingly rude. We actually went out of our way to be friendly to her and to give her the benefit of the doubt. But she was persistently snotty to our dining party and to several other parties in the restaurant. If you are the manager of this restaurant please do something about this waitress. Her behavior was unacceptable. We ordered several different dishes and all of them seemed carelessly prepared with poor quality ingredients and were either bland/tasteless or tasted outright bad. We love Portuguese food and frequently eat Portuguese. The food at Doca's was by far the worst Portuguese food we have ever had. A small detail compared to the above...but the atmosphere was poor and the bathrooms were dirty. Second visit. Busy Saturday evening without a reservation. Waitress fit us in without a fuss. If you love fresh grilled fish, this is the spot. Other dishes may vary but fish is a standout. BYOB and a liquor shop is right next door. And their coffee is superb. The lone waitress does an amazing job of handling all the tables without griping--we think she's a sweetheart. I always hate leaving a negative review, but we had a short time before Court and were promised our meal in 15 minutes... it came 30 min later (really not a big deal), BUT my meidum t-bone steak was cooked EXTREMELY WELL-DONE. I mean, it was so overdone it was difficult to cut. I asked the waitress to take at least 50% off the price, and she dropped it $6 or about 35% - which was nice, but really she should have comp'd it. Luckily there is a wine store five feet away. we got a bottle and settled in for an evening. while we were waiting the host stopped by just to see how we were doing. when a table finally opened uo we were seated promptly. My wife ordered the grilled fish and I got the dobrada, a traditional tripe and whit bean stew. We order from Docas a lot. This is a real Portuguese Restaurant, the fish come with bones and the food is straight up. We order the Salmon with veggies and the chips. Delicious! We also enjoy the grilled octopus. Don't be intimidated by the men standing outside, they are harmless and respectful! Great spot, simple food that fills you. The portions are HUGE, you can have 2 meals out of each dish unless you are super hungry. Try this place! read more
