The service is horrendous especially that bartender with the pint pony tail...he doesn't even know the meaning of Customer Service at all!!! He's very disrespectful and at one time he was nowhere to be found...missing for at least 30 minutes, come to found out he appeared from the back of the bar with a female customer....who knows what they were doing. I wish I can put no stars. Never will go back. The moment I walked in the bartender looked at me and my friends like we were a problem. Showed our IDs (Didn't have any problems at any other bar in the area but here.) Immediately refusing to serve us when we showed our ids. I was unfortunate enough to walk in this bar. I understand it's a dive bar but I didn't understand the white OWNER using the N word (ER), loud and clear throughout the bar. My friends and I decided to have a night out to this bar and we were enjoying ourselves having a couple beers, I decided to use the restroom which has no locks so I decided to use my foot as a doorstop to stop anyone from entering, bartenders walks in on me and leaves as I am zipping up my pants and adjusting my belt and as I leave the bathroom security comes up telling me I have to leave because the bartender told him so. I later find out through my friends that the bartender was accusing me of doing drugs. He was later informing my friends that he used to sell drugs to military and that was justification to kick me out. Do not go to Dock's, security is cool and friendly, I do not know what the bartender was on but definitely not friendly and unwelcoming. Terrible experience -- would never go back. I had heard before that the bartender here had a bad attitude, and unfortunately, that turned out to be true. They were extremely rude, clearly in a bad mood, and handled our drinks carelessly -- practically tossing them at us. The overall vibe of the place was unpleasant: it smelled weird, felt chaotic, and the bartender's behavior only added to the negative atmosphere. Even security, who were honestly more welcoming than the staff behind the bar, encouraged us to give it another shot. We regret listening. Should've trusted our instincts. I was, by the way, born and raised in Chula Vista so I have a pretty good feeling about the bar scene here. (My boyfriend and I went to Bar Sin Nombre before Dock's which was a great time btw.) We decided to get a nightcap at Docks before going home. We were looking for a table when, the next thing I know, we're getting kicked out. "What's going on?". The bartender asked if we would like a drink, so obviously we were fine to come in, however, the "bouncer" decided that we weren't welcome. Do better with your bouncers. Bottom of the Barrel service. The mood when you walk in does not seem inviting at all, it's very dark and it seems a lil ran down. If you do ignore all the other bad reviews and decide to take a trip to this establishment beware of the racist employees. This old white woman who claims to be the owner was very intoxicated and could not leave my friends and I alone, from the moment we stepped foot in that horrible excuse of a business the mood was off. For a bit of background, my friends and I were looking for Karaoke which they advertise but I guess was not doing for the night so we deviated and tried to play pool. Long story short the pool table requires you to put quarters in and at the time none of us had the quarters, the bartender was not trying to cooperate with a trade of a few dollars for quarters which at that point we were ready to go to the next place. The old white woman overhearing our conversation and basically watching us the whole time decides to run her mouth to the other people sitting around the bar telling them "if they don't have quarters, they need to get the f-ck out." If you're an owner, why would you fix your mouth to even gossip around potential recurring customers but she must be ok with her 3 retired veterans and 2 occasional stragglers. Awful interaction to say the least, and there's so many better places to go less than 200 feet away from her 1900s ways of running that building. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. The Monday day shift bartender is a complete and absolute a**hole. He has a verry racist, and negative attitude about him. He kicked myself and two other friends out before they could even have a sip of beer because my friends backpack fell off a stool he tried to place it on. He has the nastiest attitude I have encountered in quite a while. I just walked over a mile to come here to have a relaxed drink and he greeted me with such a nasty attitude I felt uncomfortable, and when he kicked my friends out I had no choice but to follow suit. Whenever I am out of town, and spot a dive bar, I must check it out. With a name like Doc's you know its going to be a good time. It was 10 am, but hey, I was on a mini vacation, and it was 5 o clock somewhere. I ordered a rum and soda water, and my husband got a jack and coke. We sat right up at the bar top, and it was pretty busy for a Saturday at 10 am. The bartender was friendly and the drinks were perfectly poured. I loved all the Halloween décor, very festive. I could have stayed for hours, but we had a full day ahead of us. Will definitely come back for a drink or two next time I'm in the area. read more

I never use this forum but ONCE in a while I must make people aware of SOME BAD places, I visited this establishment for the first time and noticed that had a juke box not being played so, I dropped in some CASH and played some music (Spanish lyrics) and was abruptly told that my music was going to be skipped because it was SH$#! Came in on a Sunday with a group of 10 people around 2pm. We came in celebrating a birthday, so we had balloons and everyone walked in with a lot of energy. A few of us took 2 shots. Not back to back but we were all hanging out, played some music, played some darts, and were there for about 1 hour or so. I ordered another round of shots and the bartender said I'd have to wait a bit. He said I'd have to wait about an hour to order more drinks. Sure, no problem with me. About 10 minutes later, my husband tried to order a beer and the bartender wouldn't serve him. My husband did not have those 2 shots. We then realized that none of us would be served alcohol. So, we left. Mind you, 1 person in our group does not drink, so we relied on his testimony for accuracy of this story. Two hours later, 3 people from our group decided to walk over from where we were having lunch and order some shots and the bartender still would not serve them. It's one thing to be mindful of who you're serving and know that as a bartender you are responsible for what happens in your bar. However, after reading the reviews it is clear that a there is one bartender in particular who will make sure that his work day is not bothered. I feel like he will cut you off based on a personal bias versus the fact that you're drunk and causing a disturbance. Not cool at all. I didn't get his name, but it's kinda obvious who he is. While I respect the fact that he was doing his job, I also thinks it's necessary to highlight when you are treated unfairly from a place of business. Whether or not you need my business is irrelevant. You were nice in telling us no, but it was obvious why you did it. This is a really great diving bar/karaoke. We usually go to karaoke on Saturdays. The DJ is super cool and energetic. He really does at the mood and is very encouraging to those who don't want to do karaoke.It's in a great location that always has parking as well. They don't serve food, but do have some snacks. Also, you can't order any complicated drinks because a lot of the bartenders are either new or just don't know how to make the variety of drink drinks. read more

This is the last place you want to go for a drink! My sister and I went in for a cocktail and some jukebox music after a nice lunch down the street. Huge mistake. When we got there there was ONE guy at the bar and some homeless looking lady at the end of the bar. She shouted out that the bartender was in the bathroom and will be back shortly. So the bartender comes out and looks miserable AF, no friendly greeting at all. I said I will have a Crown/7 and house white wine. She gets the drinks and puts them in front of us. Again, she looks miserable to be working. Crown/7 has been my drink for over 25 years, I took a sip and politely told her the 7Up was flat. She said well that's all we have. I said you don't have any cans you can open. She said No!. I said ok I will have house Vodka and Tonic. She brought me the drink, no lime, no napkin, she didn't even ask if I would like a lime. So then I was trying to make the best of this horrible service. By this time another man came in. Boy did she run to him! When I finally got her attention I asked what is your favorite shot to make? What? She asks. I said, you know what kind of shot can you make? Do you make Lemon Drops? No we don't make those here. I was like what? Huh? Who doesn't make those? Anyway the homeless lady from the end of the bar shouts out Whiskey! Which turns out she is the owner! Anyway, I was not about to spend any more time at this dump! I asked for the tab of two house vodka tonics and one house wine. The tab was $26 bucks. WTH $26 bucks! I asked the rude bartender Jess how much were the drinks. She called out the Crown/7 as 8 bucks!! I said I didn't drink it. Well the owner said to charge you because the drink tasted good to me. I said is this your policy that the customer is wrong and she RUDELY interrupted me and said yes we are always right! I said I am going to Yelp this and she turned to us and said go ahead we don't care about Yelp. Well I got my 8 bucks and told her good luck on earning tips. She said yeah Yelp away. I said I will. Don't even waste your time and money. Are they trying to recoup money they lost during the shutdown by ripping off customers? Just imagine what they do to the elderly customers or intoxicated. What a damn shame, I have been going to Docks for many years and hadn't been back since this and only time. For damn shame. They should be thankful for anyone who walks in! Dock's is a historic spot on 3rd St that I've always heard about but never stopped in before. We were hoping for karaoke on a Thursday night before a Friday holiday, but we were sad to learn karaoke was only on weekends. (Apparently this is similar to other karaoke spots in the area.) Huh??? All Hallows' Eve 2021 7:30pm 6 patrons, 1 bartender, 1 bouncer. Lights a bit too bright. I to the top hatted bartender at the bar as I settled into a seat "I'd love a lemon drop!" He "We don't make those here" I, my eyes surveying the bars ample liquor selection, "It's a lemon drop. Vodka, lemon juice and simple syrup" He "I know how to make a lemon drop, but we don't make lemon drops here". Huhhh...WTF? I know where I'm not wanted. I nodded, making eye contact with the bartender and turned to my boyfriend saying "Lets get something down the road honey". We left. I am a positive person people but I have nothing. I've included a photo as we presented there at 7:30 pm on Halloween Eve. We look like people who can pay our bill, we're dressed in a manner to suggest that we're probably not going to be assholes and it's EARLY! I say that because I assume the bartender didn't want to serve us because we were older than the crowd he was expecting later and didn't want us to be a deterrent to the demographic when they began checking in. I seriously do not know how else to take his words, demeanor or lack of alternative suggestions. I can't think of any other way that we could be objectionable patrons. I'll start by saying that I rediscovered Docks when I posed a question on a Facebook Karaoke group while exploring options for Karaoke on a Friday night in Chula Vista. Within 10 minuets one of thier regulars replied Docks. I gave them a call to verify a few things before I committed to go. The woman who answered the phone was friendly polite and answered all my questions. She took time to find answers she didn't know. The bartender was friendly As was Shawn the KJ. She had no songbook either printed or online which to me was not cool. I didn't particularly like the fact that you put your name and a song on a notebook. I wasn't sure how the rotation went but she seemed really good at working new singers in. To me the backing tracks were too loud for the vocals. She had a variety of songs and people singing them. There seemed to be a lot of down tie between singers The customers were friendly and accepting of the singers. Beer prices seemed reasonably priced, cheap compared to what I paid last weekend for a pint. But that would an unfair comparison. They had no food which was biggest complaint. There was a Food Truck which I didn't try but it must have been good judging by the crowd sitting on curb eating tacos. I'd recommend checking Docks out if you're in the area and looking for a place for Karao,ke and friendly people. read more

Don't drink here. Walked in with five other friends and I had to use the rest room before I ordered a drink. Came out of the bathroom and while passing the bar and old dude at the end of the bar tried to confront me about me not ordering anything before using the restroom. I diffused the situation and ordered a beer and before I finished it an old lady that runs the bar (and I'm assuming is friends with the other rude bar patron) confronted my girlfriend over the same situation after we already ordered a round. I work in the hospitality business and this place has such huge potential because they are right in the heart of old town Chula Vista except for the bartenders who will be the death of this place. Specially the male bartender with long hair Who only services the people that he likes and he has an attitude throughout the whole time. He has friends come to this place of business it is only polite to them.
