For years it has been a family tradition to have brunch at Dockside diner as soon as we arrived at the island at the start of our vacation. Every year we returned to Dockside for the wide menu selection and local, comfortable atmosphere. Unfortunately, this will be our last year as patrons of Dockside. The charm of our favorite LBI diner has been soured by appalling service and mediocre food. Our young server was enthusiastic upon greeting us. We waited about 5 minutes to order drinks- and we received them promptly. So far- not so bad. But then, we proceeded to wait about 10 minutes just to order our food (when we were ready with menus down after about 2 minutes). We kept looking to see where our server could have disappeared to, but no sign of him. All the other staff- ages ranging from late teens to very young adult- were oblivious that we were looking for our server as they were huddled at the end of the bar discussing what their plans were after their shifts (I heard this when I was waiting 5 minutes for the ONLY single co-ed bathroom). Anyways, once our server finally returns he apologizes for his long absence and takes our order. We wait almost 20 minutes- again, no sign of our waiter and we have two hungry and restless kids. The restaurant was moderately busy- but nothing that I would expect cause an unreasonable delay. In years past I had noticed the lengthy waits, but chalked it up to customers at every table. This year, we came after the "brunch rush. At last- our server returns- but only to serve food to several OTHER tables that were seated AFTER us. And tables in other sections seated after us were also given their food. *Please note that we ordered 3 dishes (one omelette, one burger, and one pancake). We were understandably annoyed, but not irate. When we pointed out to our waiter we had been waiting a long time and that tables seated long after us were already eating, he hostilely said with a raised voice, " I ONLY HAVE TWO HANDS!" and then slammed the dishes that were in his hands into the bussing tub just behind our booth with a crash. Most of the restaurant had noticed this alarming, rude, and unwarranted reaction. A minute after this outburst, he brought our food out like nothing happened and was friendly- seemingly to compensate for his inappropriate behavior minutes prior. He checked up on us a few minutes later. Although I feel like he was trying to make up for his rudeness, we never received an apology. The food was mediocre- pancakes were pretty dry and eggs were bland, but I think the real disappointment here was the service. I am shocked not only to have a server become so nasty with me as a customer, but also to not have a manager (at least not one that I noticed cared) on site to see to these blatant behavior and service issues. Just to add- in my observance, several of the other patrons were also annoyed by the lengthy service as well. I hope the owner of Dockside reads this and takes it seriously when choosing staff and managers in the future and drastically changes the methods of service for this veteran, local establishment. read more

This weekend I ate at both here and The Chicken and the Egg for breakfast. I got an omelette at both locations. The Dockside Diner is seriously unrated on yelp. It is by far much better. The omelette was fresh, and delicious. I got a side of fresh fruit and it was delicious! Not a generic side of fruit, but one with such variety! The ambiance is so cute and cozy. Would definitely come back next time I'm down. read more

Brrrrr! Had breakfast in an igloo this morning. Costumers were begging to sit outside. The upside: over easy eggs - perfect, home fries nice and crispy, scrapple was very good. Downside: it was so cold the coffee froze within two minutes. Speaking of coffee: it was so weak a seagull wouldn't have woken up. Diluted water! No alternative options: it is 2015 after all; just one tofu dish, some fruit, you know...creativity. it's not Sea Isle City - LBI has taste. Oh, the Staff was way cool, except the little cutie who staggered in late with a hang over and garnered nasty stares and sniping from her Co-workers. read more

Open for breakfast or lunch only, but they do take out as well as eat-in (and it's walking distance from the Buccaneer Motel). Enormous, highly-caloric breakfasts--just the thing, when you're fortifying yourself for a day of fighting the waves. My son had their Flip-Flop--basically ham & eggs rolled up in a pancake--and was defeated by it only half-way through. Lots of great-looking omelettes and nice sandwiches. read more

The food is okay. You can get food like this all over the island but the dockside has a good sunset view.

The Dockside is a great place for a bay view and the diner fare you want in the morning, but the Dockside also gets creative with their menu. Some delicious and unusual breakfast options: from a melty cheesesteak omelette, to their own spin on avocado toast, to a quinoa-almond milk breakfast bowl. read more

We have always enjoyed breakfast here since it first opened a few years ago. The owners took over from a rundown dive and made a nice destination out of it. We just had lunch, omelet and a burger which were both fine and the price was reasonable for LBI read more

Stop for lunch. Walk in sat right down. Waitress was right over. Coffee,water right away. Ordered a Breackfast sandwich. Wow 2eggs bacon pork roll scrapple cheese on a hard roll home home fry on the side. Outstanding food. Coffee was great. Service was very good. I will be back. read more

At the Dockside Diner I order cinnamon bun French toast and a side of hash browns. The cinnamon bun French Toast was amazing!!! The light drizzle of the frosting and the warm toast completely blew my taste buds away!!! I 100% would recommend going here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. read more

Dockside Diner is quite possibly the worst restaurant on the island. Last time I was there we came around 11:30-12 (they close at 3) and they were literally out of every ingredient. I work at a restaurant too so I understand that things happen and I figured I'd let it slide that they literally had nothing on the menu because the food we did get was not bad. Then I come in next time at 2. The hostess asked me how many we were gonna be and then proceeded to tell me that they were not seating anymore because they had just had a rush when they were still open for another hour. This is completely unacceptable. Once again, they ran out of ingredients and were not able to accommodate us. Why the heck would you ask me how many we were gonna be if you are not even going to seat us? Every single time I come here there is an issue. You are a restaurant, THERE ARE GONNA BE RUSHES!!! How do you just not seat people after a rush? Order more ingredients to feed your customers. This restaurant is terrible and a sad excuse of a brunch place. We have been coming to Dockside Diner every year that we stay in LBI and will continue to do so because of the delicious food and bayside atmosphere. However, this year we were disappointed in our service. The food was excellent as always but our server was inattentive and condescending. There was a bit of a language barrier, which we 100% respect, but after he got our drink order wrong and tried to tell us that we'd ordered it incorrectly when he had actually just misunderstood, we were a little puzzled. Fast forward to when the food came. Our hasbrowns were burnt and an item was missing from an order. When we asked about it, he told us that it did not come with the plate we'd ordered, which it most certainly did. He promised that he would check with the kitchen, and disappeared for 25 minutes without checking. The restaraunt was not too busy, and there was ample time to check, but he just never took the time to. We had to ask another server, who was kind, quick, and even offered to fill our drinks which he did not do throughout the course of the meal. He never apologized, and didn't reappear until it was time for our check. I work in food service, and understand the importance of respecting the customer, even when you have a lot of tables or are feeling overwhelmed. This diner is still one of our favorites, and the food was excellent, but the service this year was lacking. read more

The food was surprisingly good, but the service was lackluster. There were only 3 tables seated in the restaurant and 3 female teen servers were doing some sort of group hug thing and ignoring the few patrons in the restaurant. We actually needed to ask "can we order now ?" For someone to locate our server. (Who was not group hugging). Our server was very pleasant though, and the food was actually very good. Food gets five stars. Great breakfasts. Great location. Just a classic place. Service gets like a tenth of a star. We've gone there about a dozen times. Rarely friendly. I know they are rushed, I get that. But the young workers there can be just plain rude and almost always come across as uninterested and wishing they were anywhere but here. This visit, my wife and I stopped in early-- before the rush. There were maybe four tables eating. Not crowded. One young waitress and she was not happy. We sat at the bar and quickly got coffees. After that, we sat there 20 minutes and never again even got anyone's attention. Three teenage boys loped in, put their aprons on and just stood there, right in front of us. It became a game to us -- how long could we sit here unnoticed. Three dudes just looking at us and two nasty waitresses walking right past us for 20 minutes -- no exaggeration. We finally had to go. We threw down a fiver for the coffees and left. This place needs ADULT WORKERS. The food is great, really great. The service is what you would expect from disengaged teenagers. The DD is better than that. I'd never say don't go. We'll go back. The breakfasts are that good -- worth enduring bad service. read more

I've been coming here for quite a while-my family loves it and there's a reason for that. Delicious food, comfortable environment, friendly staff. Kinda sad a side of bacon consisted of 3 pieces, but it won't keep me from coming back. I'd definitely recommend, especially if you're on the island and looking for a delicious meal. read more

I have never been disappointed with my meal. I've been here for both breakfast and lunch. The portions are very generous and the price is reasonable. The servers are all very competent and friendly. By far the best place on the island. The dude that runs it is a bada$$ and has a great idea of what needs to be done to have a successful restaurant, he gets what the people of Lbi are expecting. Dockside diner is your best bet for all of your meals. I got in with 4 at 9:30am in less than 20 minutes and got my meal in less time than that so don't listen to any of these other clowns about service being "too slow". What a disappointment. Excited to have a good meal and strong coffee and I got neither. Coffee was probably the worst I have ever had. So watery and tasteless. My quesadilla de la mañana used processed cheese slices and the hash browns were cold. The bacon was pathetic. When you use cheap ingredients, then you can't expect tasty food. Awful. Delicious food! Can get crowded so be prepared for that. The portion sizes are very generous and the prices are pretty good! We went for breakfast and ordered pancakes with fresh berries, an egg sandwich on a bagel, and an omelet. All of our dishes were absolutely delicious. The coffee is also very good too! read more

Came here for breakfast yesterday morning with my 3 year old son and husband. Gave my name to Krista. She said it was going to be a 15 minute wait. Went outside to sit and occupy our toddler during the wait time. We saw 3 other couples and their kids get seated before us. We realized its been almost a half hour now and no sign of Krista letting us know our table was ready. When we went to inquire politely about the long wait time and how much longer we would have to wait she gave us a huge attitude ignored us and made herself a cup of coffee and said "hmmm, someone should be leaving soon". The attitude was atrocious. Meanwhile a family walked in behind us and were seated immediately. I said "your kidding, right". She said "I didnt think you wanted to sit there". With an attitude. Finally a table opened up outside we had to clean up ourselves. Funny as we were seated Krista had her cup of coffee and was actually doing her job. She was outside Calling names and handing out menus to customers. We did mention to the server how rude Krista was to us and he was really apologetic about her behavior. He took the drinks off our bill which was nice. The food was ok. Don't think we will be back. Im in the service business. Krista, you cant treat customers this way. Its not good for business. The front of the house needs to be a bit more cheerful and not ignore customers and give them an attitude for asking why the wait is taking long and seeing a handful of customers before us enjoying their meals. Always used to enjoy the Dockside Diner, however the last two years of getting breakfast here have not been very good. Just this past time my son ordered the French Toast, the first thing he said was where's the rest! There was only two miniature slices of bread on the plate, the pieces were smaller than bagged bread! Not at all worth the $10 price! I got two eggs, one was cooked well, the other one's white was still runny, definitely not for me! After all these years it's sad to say, but I don't think we'll go back, instead we'll definitely stick to ScoJo's in Surf City. read more
