I actually threw the donuts away after two bites each. To me, a maple bar should be "frosted" with maple, their maple is as thin as glaze, to the point that it cracks like glaze as you bite it. I also got a blueberry cake and it tasted sugary fake, like how banana and strawberry candy are sugary fake and not like the actual fruit. Never had a blueberry cake donut like that before. The donuts were all very basic, nothing was interesting like "ooh I want to try that!" I also got a small Redbull that cost as much as a medium sized Redbull. The people working were not friendly, it seemed to annoy them to have to help us. They put all our donuts in one small bag...I hate when donuts are put in a bag instead of a box because it ruins the topping, it makes the toppings from each donut get on the others. They have let me choose my dozen every time my friend and I have ordered doughnuts. I have many receipts I can pull up and prove it. Tonight, they told him through a passive-aggressive note written on the box, not even a phone call, that he can't pick his dozen. The order was even pushed back 20 minutes. They have called me in the past to let me know they were out of certain doughnuts I chose for my dozen. The reason he picked doughnuts was because he has a coconut allergy and he ended up with a coconut doughnut, great going. Had they called and said something, he could've told them about the allergy. He was watching their menu for hours waiting for the lemon doughnuts to go back up and they gave him 1 of the 4 he asked for. I wouldn't be angry if this was a consistent policy, but it is not. It is not our first time ordering a dozen but it's our first time being told we can't pick. If that's true, it should say it on the menu and I shouldn't have many receipts contradicting that. I went here kinda of late (7pm)but I called before I came, and the owner was nice enough to stay open me. I got there and got the coconut dream bar and the maple dream bar. I have never had donut like this before it was so delicious. The cream between the bars is so good its not to sweet and its a light cream not heavy. Dockside Donuts quickly became my favorite before school pick me up! They're open super early and the donuts are soooo soft and tasty. Their normal donuts are good but where this place really shines is in their Angel Bars. It's a maple or chocolate or coconut bar filled with whipped cream. It's Amazing. The soft donut! The gentle cream! The way the whipped cream is sweetened by the tasty sweet donut! Ugh, the things have appeared in my dreams. Don't worry about the lady behind the counter. She might seem a little gruff but the more you come around, the nicer she becomes! And seriously those Angel Bars are worth everything read more

I have been to Dockside Donuts a few times now and have some things I would like to share: Pros: The fact that it is open 24 hrs is a big plus. I tend to be a night owl/early bird, so being able to go somewhere with friends and get quality eats is a must. The variety and quality of their donuts is something that I have been missing for a very long time. I remember how at times, when I was a child, my father would come home from a local donut shop with "good tidings of great joy". Having one of their donuts reminds me of childhood rememberies laden with sweet glaze and fruity fillings. Specifically, their cake donuts are light and fluffy, not dense and greasy. I like this because I have a favorite bread pudding recipe that uses cake donuts INSTEAD of, well, bread, and boy is it good. Their cake donuts do their job and they do it well. Who'da thunk that they would have amazing bagels? Yeah, every once in a while, I get a bagel craving and I have been known to frequent a national chain grocery store for their jalapeno and cheddar bagel (snap three times if you know what I mean). Although Dockside Donuts only has plain bagels (as they are a donut shop, wink-wink), they are definitely made the way bagels are supposed to be made, and taste amazing. A must try with their in-house lox (as in, cold-smoked salmon) cream cheese. Their staff is very friendly to me whenever I come in. I'm aware that in food-service and small business management (since I have worked in both), service is very important, and some people or establishments can come off as fake or ingenuine, but I never feel as though I am being treated as a commodity here. It's a nice change of pace. Although proximity is not really a major "pro" in my book, it is extremely close to where I live, so it's easy for me to swing by and pick some up on my way to the interstate. It's not too far off the beaten path, very close the the Sounder, Amtrak and local transit stations. Cons: The donuts are never warm when I get there, but not enough of a critique to knock it down a star. It would just be nice if I could have a warm one, not microwaved. They still taste amazing regardless. I wish the main entry could be open a little later. Although they are open 24 hrs, the dining room closes at 6pm. This could be a security measure, but at least they let me peak through the drive through window to see which donuts I want. It's so hard to choose sometimes when you are buying a dozen or more. ************************ Although coffee and donuts go hand-in-hand much of the time, I cannot comment on the coffee as I am not really a coffee drinker. I've tried their drip once, however, and it tasted average, like everything else I've had since I drink so little of it. Overall, I have a had a good experience. The prices are reasonable, the donuts are huge and I've been able to share this experience in unique ways with friends and family. There are many donut shops that I like here in Tacoma, and Dockside Donuts is another I can add to my list of favorites. read more

An old school donut shop that has really good donuts. I discovered this place when I was searching for a cup of coffee after setting up for a show at the Tacoma Dome. It's just about two blocks east of the dome. Good coffee and the Bacon Maple Bars are awesome. read more

Your average middle of the road donut shop. The gimmick is the Bacon Maple Bar, and a whole assortment of other donuts and other baked goods that you can get 24 hours a day 7 days a week. I went to get donuts at about 7 in the morning and when I was there I was greeted promptly and the amount of donuts was abundant! Only problem was they were a bit chilled. It would be nice to be able to pick up some WARM donuts on the cold mornings. I didn't have any coffee so I can't speak to that. The donuts seemed fresh and they had good flavor but like I said nothing over the top. The prices were somewhat reasonable compared to other donut shops. Maple Bar w/ Bacon will set you back just under $3.00 and forget about getting a discount on buying a dozen because you pay per donut starting at $0.75. read more

Went and had possibly one of the most awkward and uncomfortable experiences here. I ordered a blended white mocha from the menu and a doughnut. When the lady working handed me my coffee it was hot so I politely told her oh I i wanted it blended like a smoothie and she looked at me and said they don't do that. I said oh sorry I saw it as an option on the menu can you do a blended caramel coffee then? And she proceeded to tell me no and try's to give me the hot coffee I asked her if she could possibly make it iced and she hesitantly did but as a barista myself the coffee tastes as if she just poured the hot drink over the ice. Very unhappy I ordered from them on uber eats a week ago and got a blended caramel frappe so idk what the problem was. read more

And their daughter had just messaged me in a very disrespectful manner, when you're family owns a business, you leave it to your parents. You have to understand there will be customers who have a bad experience and they are going to put a review about it to let other customers know because we all look out for one another. They need to teach their child to leave certain a things alone, she needs more knowledge about respect because that is the last thing their daughter has for their customers. She literally contacted me out of nowhere speaking in such disrespect! There is no way in the world you can pay me to eat here, customer service always lacked anyways. Epic donuts in Puyallup ftw! only reason its not a one star, is well, it is 24 hours? 2 stars because, the donuts are terrible, and the service is worse. I've only ever gone late at night, and will never go again. I assume if you go at like 6 a.m. you might find some fresh, hot, decent donuts. But if you go at any part of night, you are getting full priced, aged, stale, and awful donuts. Furthermore, you are interrupting whoever is working by being there. I drive through at like 10 pm after work, or midnight after work and got donuts for family as a surprise. Some decent options, in theory, but all of them got thrown away after 1 bite. So yeah.... Went here today before catching a train, ms Chang (I'm told that's her name) was exceptionally rude and discourteous. I was with my family and we had some questions on pricing and available donuts, which she answered curtly or not at all. The donuts themselves were simply OK, nothing to be excited about and certainly not enough to make up for deplorable service. I will never return to this shop despite it's proximity to the amtrak station and downtown Tacoma, which I frequent with my family. It may be that she was having a bad morning, but her behavior, attitude, and sheer lack of the most basic customer service have permanently spoiled the rapport of this shop for us. Dockside donuts has great donuts. Are they particularly special not really. I do feel I get the same quality of donuts at a lower price at other donut shops. Most of the donuts here are $2 each. I stopped and bought 3 donuts & 1 milk. That was $10. I feel thats a bit steep for 3 donuts. When places like Lakewood Donut House would be half the price. I agree the staff here is dry. Not rude but just very depressing and dry hardly say Good Day never say thank you just stare at ypu blanky while you decide hand you your bag. They dont even crack a smile. I really like coming here doughnuts are so good and good on prices too!! There is a difference between a krispy kreme doughnut (mass produced, low quality). If you don't carry cash like do, your order needs to be more than $3 dollars to use the plastic(credit/debit cards). I actually tried to walkin one day and all doors were locked but they were open must be drive thru only.
