We decided on a spur of the moment early dinner date, I'm not sure what the dinner version of brunch is, but that's what we did. We've been frequenting Fish Camp for months now and wanted to check out some of the other seafood restaurants here in Beaufort, so Dockside was what we decided to try out. I'm really glad we did. First of all, like any good seafood place on the coast, it's on the water for a great view. The parking situation offers a large lot so you're not hunting for a spot, and the staff is really upbeat and friendly. The food was terrific, and the sweet cornbread that's brought to the table is among some of the finest I've ever had. Kat had the scallop linguine dish, which she really enjoyed. I went for a more middle of the road option and had the fish & chips, which also were terrific. They have a pretty big menu with tons of options though. Price wise, it was about on par with Fish Camp, which kind of is my barometer for local seafood restaurant prices. My overall opinion of Dockside (which I give the thumbs up to) is, if you're looking for a cheap shrimp shack, this is not it. But if you're looking for a nice seafood dinner that you'll probably want to dress up a little (not too much) for-Dockside is it. 10/10 will come back read more

We arrived at 3:44 and were told they open at 4:00. It was a bummer they don't allow you to grab a drink at the bar while you wait- this could be a great idea and bring in some extra $$. We waited outside until 4:00 and then walked in to be seated. The restaurant was almost full by 4:03 which is amazing and speaks volumes to its tastiness- They were fully staffed which was another great thing to see. Once seated Camden greeted us and took our order. I started with the Strawberry lemonade and my hubby tried the pina colada m. Both were tasty. For starters we ordered the crab cakes, coconut shrimp and fried tomatoes. We loved the fried tomatoes. They were fabulous and came with a fun black bean and fruit topping. The coconut shrimp was plump but over cooked in my opinion. Still good flavor with a nice fruity dipping sauce. The crab cake was full of lump crab meat- the flavor was great and they did not skimp on the crab! I highly recommend trying it if you like crab. Before our boils arrived Camden delivered a tray of cornbread that was to die for. It was hot out of the oven and came with a beautiful honey butter. I could have lived in a basket of this cornbread it was so yummy. For our main entree we shared a boil with a side of crab legs- the boil here was perfection. Jumbo shrimp, sausage, potatoes, and corn sitting in a bath of old bay sauce! Perfection!!! I dove right in and helped my hubby peel shrimp while he got to cracking crab. It was so freaking good. Camden did a great job of refilling our waters and clearing our used plates which was nice. We will definitely be back!!! The food was SO good!!! Parking was easy outside in the open lot. read more

This place used to be a lot better. They took their best item, stuffed flounder, off the menu. Along with that, the service was not great. We ordered bake potatoes, and when our food came out, we're told they were out. However, 5 minutes later, they are continuously bringing out baked potatoes. Inexcusable. We went to Dockside because it was recommended by someone at our hotel. We were seated right away. We started the meal with crab bisque. They also brought cornbread to the table. My husband had the crab stuffed flounder that also came with shrimp and scallops. I had seafood pasta that contained shrimp, scallops, and crab. Overall everything was good. We both thought everything could have used a little more seasoning, but I realize that comes down to personal preference. The restaurant is right on the water with pretty views. read more

From the minute you walk in until you're walking out you are extremely well taken care of. Our week in Port Royal brought us back a second time to the Dockside Restaurant because the first visit was so amazingly good. We were seated promptly on the enclosed deck with a view of the ocean. Both times. But we did arrive at 5:15 so we could have choice seating. I had the Low Country Boil the first night along with Hush Puppies. Just incredible. The second night I had the Ribeye and I just had to get more shrimp and hush puppies. Again incredible. My wife had the salmon and just couldn't finish it but said it was fantastic. The second night she had the bone in flounder. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The prices are reasonable for what you get. First visit well under a C note with alcohol and the second visit just about a C note. Can't get that good of service and food for that price point in a lot of great restaurants. read more

Low country seafood staple! I got a low country boil which came with lots of shrimp, sausage and potatoes. Corn was steamed well too. I love old bay so the flavor was as expected. First of all we were looking for a place where we could dine with our small dog, Dockside was it. When we walked in a nice gentleman guided us to a table with a beautiful view. The dog friendly area is enclosed so no bugs! The attentive service was wonderful but the best was the fish! Their corn bread is perfect, not too sweet, I could have had a whole pan. My husband had the grilled swordfish which was the freshest and most delicious ever, the veggies were not mushy, the potato perfectly baked The only disappointment was the fried shrimp, they were just okay, will not order again. Food was fantastic and fast! Ordered hush puppies and steamed mussels to start. They came out super quickly and the portions were big to share easily. The hush puppies were served with a sweet butter and warmed so it just melted in perfectly. Then came out the mains, Dockside Dinner and Captain's Platter. There was so much food! We didn't have time to enjoy the apps because the mains came out to fast. They also brought out corn bread with a savory butter spread. For the mains, the scallops were cooked perfectly. Both the fried and pan seared were so good - melt in your mouth cooked perfection. Everything else was as expected and plenty to share for two people. Wrapped up with the peanut butter stack and key lime pie both were fantastic. We were seated on the patio facing the parking lot and most of the waitresses tables were elsewhere so it was tough for her checking on us. She did fine but could feel that we were not top of mind. The restaurant was small. Our son loved the upside boat hanging upside down over the main dinning area. Beautiful view, yummy food. Our server Gracie was very sweet and perfectly attentive. We shared appetizers and each had a salad. Everything we tried was really fresh and delicious. The buffalo shrimp and coconut shrimp were both fantastic. Crispy, big and tender. There are no reservations so I suggest going at an off time or right at opening or plan on waiting. Go for the view. Stay for the seafood. Request a table by the back windows for incredible marsh views. While waiting, walk the boardwalk, and snap pictures of the serene sunset and beautiful boats. The she-crab soup was delicious! The free cornbread they served us was yummy....but if we'd known, we wouldn't have ordered two baskets of hushpuppies. They were nearly inedible - a disgrace to hushpuppies. They were dense and sweet instead of light and savory...more like a cake donut hole. Everyone tried one; no one reached for a second. That was the only major miss, however. The crab cakes were good...the green beans too! The seafood pasta was okay, but the scallops were over cooked. The fried platters were enjoyable and well executed. While a bit pricey ($47 for the crab boil!!!), it was a fun (loud) ambiance with stunning views! Dockside has a great vibe but is a little over rated in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad place for dinner but because of how busy this place gets, the food wasn't as good as it could have been. Our wait time was about 45 minutes which was fine for us. We just enjoyed some drinks at the bar until our table was ready. When we were seated, my wife ordered the Scallops Piccata and a salad. I ordered the Crispy Scored Flounder. It took awhile for my wife's salad to come out but we understood because the restaurant was packed. She only had the salad for about 3 minutes or so and the entrées were brought to the table. So now she has a choice of either finishing her salad and having her meal get cold or just forgetting the the salad. She abandoned the salad. The Scallops Piccata was pretty disappointing. The scallops were good but it lacked any flavor. It didn't have the lemony taste you expect in piccata. Not much in the way of capers either. My Crispy Scored Flounder started out being quite good. It was seasoned well and perfectly fried. Well, almost perfectly. When I flipped the flounder over to eat the meat on the other side, it was extremely oily. I could only eat a small amount. I'm guessing it was pulled out of the deep fryer and put directly on to the plate without letting it sit in the basket or on a wire rack to drain the oil. That's just a guess though. Either way, one side was oily. Overall, we had a pretty good time here despite some shortfalls. read more

The she crab soup tasted overwhelmingly of plain flour, little to no seasoning or effort. Stuffed flounder was disappointing and lacked flavor or creativity. We had fried oysters as an appetizer when they opened and it was delicious! Lightly fried, sweet and tender. We went back again for a full dinner and I ordered the pick two. I chose fried oysters and scallops along with a cup of clam chowder. I returned the soup as it tasted sour. The oysters were over fried along with the scallops that are imitation. If you know your scallops as I do, you can definitely tell by the cookie cutter size and texture. We came to Dockside in May on a trip to Beaufort. We came for an early dinner since I had read about the wait. They were already busy, but a wait for 2 was not long. I did not care for where we were seated, right dab in the middle, which someone has to go there I suppose, but it was loud and just felt like we were in the way of servers and others coming and going. Next time, I would wait a little longer just to sit off to the side of a very busy restaurant. What we got: Cornbread - automatically comes served. We didn't eat much of this since we were more interested in the hushpuppies. Hushpuppies - they were huge but flavorful. Wish we could get a half order for just two of us. Crabcakes - I thought these were good and full of spice and flavor. Would definitely get these again. I do think they could use more crab though. Scallops - I do not like scallops, but my husband got them and enjoyed these. Strawberry and Mango Coladas - I love strawberry coladas; unfortunately, the one here just tasted like a watered down frozen beverage, it was not good. The mango colada, was complete opposite. You could taste the coconut blended with mango, full of flavor. I ended up getting a peach martini, which was strong and flavorful. So well done on 2 of the 3 drinks. Overall, enjoyed our dinner here and would come back, but not quite 5 star level greatness. read more

From the time I got there until I had my salad it only took about 5 minutes max. I had shrimp and grits and it was excellent. Most places in town are closed on Sunday so expect it to be crowded. We went on a Wednesday evening and wait was not bad for inside seating. Outside was immediately available. Once seated our waitress came up and we ordered drinks. We decided to order two cups of she crab soup and a crab cake to split for appetizers. The soup was hot and seasoned well. There were some larger lumps in the soup which appeared and I assumed were lumps of crabmeat. Wrong, they were a very mushy blob with no flavor. I still can't figure out what they were. The cornbread was good which my wife said was the best thing she ate. I ordered the half and half fried shrimp and flounder. Shrimp were not fresh. Flounder was good. I also got French fries which were the coated kind and overcooked. My wife ordered shrimp and grits. Again not fresh shrimp. I tasted the grits and sauce. Grits were very coarse and very bland. When we got there on a Tuesday at 5:30, we couldn't believe how busy it was! I dropped my wife at the front door to get our name in and I parked the car! When I got in, she greeted me and had chosen to eat on the back porch with no view, as opposed to waiting 45-60 minutes for a table with a view! Disappointing but understandable! We were quickly greeted by Travis who took our drink order. I ordered the she Crab soup and she ordered the raw oysters! Both were excellent.
