Really disappointing. I was visiting Beaufort for the first time and looking forward to a good seafood dinner. This restaurant was recommended by a local. The complimentary cornbread that comes to each table was a huge disappointment. It had a cake-like texture and was sweet, something I'd expect if I was in the Northeast. Couldn't believe it. That's just wrong if you're from the South. And there was a strange after taste. One bite was all I could handle. Next was my entree...Shrimp and Scallop Piccata pasta. It was swimming in oil. The capers weren't even the least bit salty/briny. They were soggy from all the oil. I picked out the scallops and shrimp; left the rest. A really disappointing experience. read more

We were in town for our son's Marine graduation and chose this place. We were so glad we did. The food was incredible and the service was excellent. Even though they were very busy, our server was very attentive and sweet. We got the shrimp and grits which was excellent and the fried seafood platter. Overall, Dockside was a good experience. The ambiance is great and people are friendly. The food however, was somewhat lackluster. Everything was cooked great. My wife got the potato crusted grouper and I got the broiled seafood platter. The flavor was the only thing lacking. Even just some Old Bay would have made a world of difference. The blandness of the food overtook how well everything was cooked. If they revised their seasonings, or at least had extra seasoning options on the table, this would be a 4 or 5 star review. read more

After arriving in Beaufort after a long road trip we were looking forward to a nice casual relaxing meal on the water. Dockside didn't disappoint. It has the feel of a seaside eatery but without the fuss. The decor is simple and the menu is fish in a variety of ways----broiled, steamed, battered, fried and raw! I chose flounder-----scored, lightly battered and fried with a simple vinaigrette sauce on the side. Some cajun flavored rice was served on the plate. I liked it----this fish is increasingly becoming my favorite since I moved to South Carolina! My husband had a crab cake and slaw and enjoyed both. We got there just after opening on a Friday night. I'm glad we were doing an early dinner because we were seated right away. By the time we left, they were up to an hour wait and that was still kind of early. I can understand why, though. Staff was courteous and attentive from the moment we walked in all the way until we left. Food came quickly and dishes were cleared as we finished. Ford was great too. I had the captain's platter and enjoyed every last bite. My wife got the fried flounder; it was four fillets (two fish). All the food was outstanding, and our server Bailey was the best. I had buttermilk flounder and Caesar salad, perfect. The rest of my platoon mates and wives had different selections that were also outstanding, just a little different from 3rd Battalion chow, haha. Anyway, I only wish we had a place like this in Texas. Loved Beaufort and this restaurant so much, am planning a return trip, and maybe another visit to P.I. I've coming here for the better part of 20 years. I've never been disappointed. I took my girlfriend here yesterday, and she's never had seafood she liked. Poor poor Northern girl :( Aside from that, she got a steak and snow crab legs, and I got the fried shrimp and flounder. She loved my flounder and shrimp. (Lookout CJs Seafood Market, I'm coming for more fish now!) Her steak was cooked to perfection too. However, the snow crab was stringy. That's one of the risks you take with frozen seafood though. It was seasoned great and still a winner with the girlfriend, so not all was lost. When you dine in a mecca of fresh seafood and order the only thing on the menu from Alaska, you can't complain too much I suppose. Atmosphere is terrific, and the staff were overwhelming polite, professional, and proficient! 10/10 will continue coming here. read more

This is a must if you are in the Beaufort area! A little loud if you sit inside, inside voices won't work when trying to communicate so speak up. We got the Oyster Rockefeller for an app and it was amazing. We got different pasta items on the menu. The portion size is good. I was hungry but ended up taking a little under half home. More than pleased with this restaurant especially the service we received from Malory ( sorry if I spelled wrong) We have known this place for ever and ever. It is a local favorite but honestly never ever went in until the other day. The food was prepared to perfection but most most importantly the service from Malory was incredible. Never had to wait for a refill. No mistakes. Constant checks on us made us feel as if we were the only ones in the restaurant! Definitely wasn't what's it hyped up to be, my crab legs were pretty cold, which is fine, stuff happens but I couldn't finish them. But our waitress was in our face talking without her mask on, I normally wouldn't be upset about this but she's around tons of people every night so it made me very uncomfortable. Extremely disrespectful for an establishment to continue doing this considering there are other reviews about this. People were definitely not sitting 6 feet apart and I could tell people didn't like it either because they moved. The price was normal for seafood but I've had better, I definitely won't be back. This was our last meal in Low Country and they hit it out of the park! We started with she crab soup which is as good as any I've had. Our dinners of grilled gulf shrimp and fried oysters left up both happy. And the side of vidalia cole slaw did not disappoint! Our waitress was efficient, but absent. We went in the evening the establishment sits on the marina with a nice view. You can either sit inside at booth or table to watch the game or sit at the bar and watch the game or sit outside and enjoy the view. We were sat right away which was great! Our waiter was nice and attentive. I order she crab soup and fish and chips. The "she crab soup" was sweet for my taste and Sherry was strong . The fish and chips Made up for the my sweet soup . It's horrible giving Dockside a bad review since it was a great restaurant for so long. This once-lovely place has become a Shoney's. The food was overcooked and under-seasoned. I'm not even sure how they made fresh seafood so unappetizing. Normally being that hungry (we'd been waiting there three hours) will make anything taste good, but even an empty belly couldn't save those cooked-to-death shrimps and scallops. Even the lobster was mushy. The server was attentive and sweet, but I just felt sorry that she kept apologizing for mistakes that were clearly the kitchen and management's fault. We are locals and have been trying to give this place a chance for years. The view is great, the service has always been good, the food has never failed to disappoint. Ordered several appetizers today. Oysters on the half shell were the smallest most tasteless I've ever had. Yes, it is not oyster season here but our server assured me the oysters were superb. The blackened Mahi Tuna was bland. How do you make that bland? The Buffalo Oysters were OK but not worth returning for. Fried Green Tomatoes would have been OK with some sort of sauce. The best part of the meal was the seaweed that the tuna was bedded on and the beer, although the have none on draft. Bottles only. We will give these folks another couple of years and try them again. This restaurant was great! The scenery is beautiful. The staff are extremely friendly. The food was delicious and the price was just right! I had the salmon and scallops. It was some of the best salmon I've ever had, seared to perfection. My husband had the seafood pasta. It is a very generous portion, he couldn't even finish! He said it was delicious and had the perfect amount of shrimp, scallops, and crab in it. We will definitely go back. read more

We ate here yesterday after family day for the marine corps. Very popular . We waited for a table probably an hour, we were a party of 9. The food is amazing! We order the fried green tomatoes and the calamari to start and they brought us cornbread and garlic bread. It was so yummy. Everyone's food came out in a timely matter and everyone enjoyed everything they ordered. Especially the seafood pasta. I highly recommended this place for a nice enjoyable meal. read more

Nice place to have a beer waterside, but give dinner a skip. Food is OK and not anything special. My husband had the southern fried captain's platter which arrived with soggy, undercooked fish. Loved this place. The man at the check-in desk was friendly and the bartenders were welcoming. Got seated quickly on a Saturday, arriving about 6 pm. But they do get busy with a wait-list. My boyfriend's seafood pasta dish was very good and I ordered the steamed shrimp which had a great flavor -the shrimp were large- and the Caesar Salad was delicious with an interesting presentation. However the best thing we ate were the jalapeño cream cheese stuffed fried shrimp. You got 4 huge shrimp battered and fried with a delicious sauce. You must try them! As we were leaving we asked the man at the front desk if he was the owner and he responded "It depends on whether you liked the food or not!"
