I brought my car into to have it inspected prior to being sold. After taking the car for a short spin, Doc comes back and claims the clutch is chattering. His other mechanic then took the car for a spin and said it felt fine to him. Doc then takes us to his filthy office area and proceeds to tell the potential buyers that he didn't think it had a new clutch and all the potential buyers had was my word that it had been changed. After he talked my potential buyers out of buying the car, I stopped them and showed them all of the receipts for the new clutch, the new breaks and all the other parts that went into the car. Doc was either totally clueless or full of shit. It was at that point that I remembered where I had seen him before. I used to work as a welder at a shop in the same business park as his shop. The owner of the weld shop was an old minister, he and his son ran the shop. Doc had just gotten out of prison and opened his shop and would come over and pretend to be a Christian and take advantage of the owner and his son, screwing them out of thousands in materials and labor, then laugh about it like it was a joke. This dude is human garbage. Avoid this place like the plague. Remember, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it's probably not a goose. Take one look at this guy and you'll understand what I'm saying. read more

I needed a qualified Mechanic to do a pre buyers inspection for me on a car I want to purchase. I needed to have the inspection done sooner rather than later and I thought it would be impossible for me to find someone before Monday. I'm also not from the area so I had no idea who to call. On a whim I picked a shop because the add said the owner had been a mechanic in business for 45 years. It was well after his closing time but I decided to call and leave him a message. To my surprise he answered the phone and I was able to schedule an appointment for the next Morning. He did an amazing job and went above and beyond for me. Not to mention I called him tonight with a question and even though it's Sunday night he answered the phone again. He answered my question and put me at ease. He explained things to me in detail. I can't say enough good things about this business and I would not hesitate to do business with them again. read more

I contacted Doc's for a pre purchase inspection of a chevy. Doc seemed a bit confused but also the kind of car guy with lots of experience that you want working on your vehicle. I appreciated his review of the vehicle and purchased the car. Going forward he had recommended service on the differential, so I asked for a bid and he wrote a number down on my inspection receipt. I checked with the dealer and it would save a bit going with Doc, so I scheduled the work with him. When I got there Doc and another mechanic did the work. They showed me the dark fluid so I was glad I had the work done However, when it came time to pay, the bill was double the initial bid. I argued that he should charge closer to the original bid, but eventhough I showed him the quote in his own handwriting, he didn't recognize it and wouldn't honor it. He did take a small amount off but the total was still a couple hundred higher than the more professional chevy service would have been. He said this was because it took two of them to do the work. Strangely not the hourly rate auto shops usually charge for service plus parts. So if you come here expect to see an amazing car collection but with an older owner who's best days are in the past. I'm sad to say he's confused, badly disorganized, and I question if he can still do the quality work he did in the past. I decided not to have my car serviced here again and it's why I can't recommend Doc's Auto to others. read more

I called them and made appointment at 7am but the business was closed. So I called them and they said one of the coworker's wife had an accident so they couldn't open business that day. It was understandable for me. So I asked them to make another appoinment and they said come back tomorrow morning. We came back around 9am but the business still not opened without any notice. I understand family emergency but they suppose to not make another appointment or at lease put some note on their door so customers knows what's happening and not waiting outside. I took my 2012 Kia Soul into Doc's Auto Center because it was dying at stop lights and running noisy. He ran it thru diagnostics within two hours which the Kia dealer wasn't able to schedule for 4 weeks out. He explained the issues and costs very honestly. I think I'll just trade it in on a vehicle with less mileage. I really appreciated Doc being straight forward and will now take my other car into him for any services it may need. Doc helped me do a pre-purchase inspection for a rebuilt 2014 Subaru Impreza. This service cost about $175 overall. Doc did what appears to have been a pretty thorough job checking out the vehicle. Furthermore, I was able to call him more than once to clarify things and get advice. This is something I appreciated about Doc. I would say, however, that you should ask him any questions you have about his report. Doc brought up the timing belt, as well as the transmission and the transfer case. Conversation with the seller revealed (apparently) that the car did not have a timing chain, but a timing belt. Doc assumed it was a timing belt, and the fact that a timing chain had been used greatly affected the assessed value of the car. Moreover, after speaking with Doc, I found out that he had mentioned that the transmission and the transfer case should be serviced, not because he had found anything particularly wrong with those items, but because there was not sufficient history of service. Overall, I am happy that I brought the vehicle to Doc rather than guess on what was wrong with the vehicle I was looking at. read more

Two weeks ago, my car stopped right when I was leaving work [engine stopped]. After a day of struggle with AAA, Doc had a look at my car within hours, he gave me a diagnostic/$$ estimate [aligned with what he said on the phone prior to bringing the car to the shop]. As soon as the parts arrived [a few days later], he took care of my car. Ended up picking it up earlier than anticipated and final costs were aligned with original estimate. Glad that I finally found a place I can trust in case of emergency and/or basic maintenance. Plus, in addition to being an expert mechanic, Doc is a very respectful person, super friendly, with a great sense of customer service [rare these days]. Dealt with Doc himself and he was very communicative. due to my job, I had to keep borrowing my car back from the shop and he was more than understanding. the fixed the issue at a more than reasonable cost. as a side note, The shop has an amazing collection of older cars. +1 for not making fun of me for leaving my sunroof open in the rain, or for owning a ford. I had a DTC (Engine light) come on regarding oil sensor. I called Doc's Auto Center where (to my surprise) Doc answered telling me he could look at it. It was diagnosed as an oil sensor and that he could get the parts in 3 days and have it done when the parts came in. A man true to his word, I only needed the rental car for the time during repair, which was 24 hours. I recommend Doc for all repairs. read more

My car was making a weird noise so I called doc and made and appointment to drop off. Saw all the positive reviews so was hopeful I picked a good shop I got there right on time but no one was there to speak to. Rang the bell out in front several times and waited 15-20 mins. There was a radio blaring from the garage and one person on the far side working on a car. I called out to him a few times but the radio was too loud. I understand its a small shop (looked very dirty and run-down as well) but if you schedule an appointment there should be someone there. At the very least make it so you can hear when a customer is there! read more

Doc's is the place to go if you want to take a used care in for a pre-purchase inspection. I came across a car I last Saturday morning and I made a call to Doc's. He had a busy day but he squeezed me in somehow. Doc is a really good guy and he did a through inspection of the car before I made the final decision to buy. Before you spend a great deal of money on a used car which will most likely cost you several thousands of dollars, I highly recommend a pre-purchase inspection from Doc's for a very small fee. Insurance wrote off my low mileage 2004 Corolla as being totaled when all that was needed was some cosmetic work. Was steered to Doc to see if he could help. Doc assured me he could fix it and even took 45 minutes to show and explain to me what needed to be done and how he'd do it. Said he'd have it looking like new. Time frame was 2 weeks. Ten days later the car was done, a bit less expensive than the original estimate, and it looks every bit as great as he said it would. Despite hoping to never need this type of work again, it's nice to know that Doc can do the work and greatly reduce my stress level. I will highly recommend him to others. I am super excited about having my car back! I had never named this car, but it has a name now - Doc!! read more

I had rear brakes that were sticking and grinding. I took the vehicle to a national chain on a Monday morning where I received a quote of just under $1,400; this price included tax, new pads, rotors on both sides and a new caliper on the passenger side. I wanted to get a second opinion, so I talked with Doc. He said he could do the work for about $1,000, but he couldn't do the work until Wednesday; Doc said bring the truck by Wednesday morning and I'll have it finished that afternoon. This sounded great to me, so my wife brought the truck to Doc's Wednesday morning before work. I went to pick the truck up that afternoon, and to my dismay Doc said that they haven't even started the work yet. He then had this bewildered look on his face and said I would have to bring it back later in the week. I explained to him that I was between vehicles, and this would create a hardship for me and my family. Doc was very understanding, he gave me a loaner car and said he would have the truck ready the following day. I appreciated the loaner car; however, it had some miner mechanical problems. The biggest issue were the EXPIRED TABS that were expired by four months. As promised the truck was ready the following day, and it was cheaper than expected; under $900 including tax. After driving away the truck didn't feel quite right, and I could smell the brakes burning. I didn't think much of this since the brakes were new it's common to smell the brakes, however I was driving later that afternoon and car pulled up next to me and said the truck was really smoking bad. I brought it back to Doc's, and it turns out he never replaced the defective caliper. I ended up picking up the truck on a Saturday morning and was charged additional $456 (it was higher, I had to negotiate this price). I was beyond frustrated and pissed with the whole experience. This should have been fixed correctly on Wednesday at the agreed upon price. I could have left my truck with the national chain (who correctly diagnosed the problem and was charging a fair price) and I wouldn't have had to deal with Doc. Doc is completely unorganized, chaotic. He does shoddy work, but charges full price for the substandard work; the customer thinks they are getting quality work at a good price. Needless to say, I will never bring any of our vehicles to Doc's. read more

He is a friendly, straightforward guy who truly cares about his customers. I was greeted at the door and immediately felt that I was in good hands. Everything was explained clearly and in layman's terms, both on the diagnostics and the possible solutions. On both occasions, Doc charged me only what was necessary and did not pressure me into any additional purchases. I see they deleted my review, so here's an update. As stated previously, Doc doesn't really care a whole lot about safely repairing your vehicle. In my case, there was an airbag light on after a collision, in which there was NO airbag deployment. I noticed this when I picked the vehicle up, but Doc blew it off, saying it "might just go away", and to "bring it back and we'll do an OBD". Fine. It takes 3 weeks to pin him down for the OBD. First, the scanner "doesn't work" and when I get there, it has a "dead battery". Finally, they check it, and Doc says to "just drive it like it's a 60's car", and "it's a Honda", which doesn't tell me whether or not I have functioning airbags. I eventually took it to a reputable shop with a functioning OBD machine. In the original estimate, Doc said the front end sub-assembly needed to be cut-out and replaced, which wasn't done, probably because it wasn't necessary, but no adjustment to the bill. Just a bit under-handed, eh? Also, he -re-used damaged pieces of trim, which fell out of the grille the first time I opened and shut the hood. Not wanting to hear more BS excuses, I ordered replacements from eBay and installed them myself. Several of the securing clips were broken, and Doc absolutely had to know they were junk, but he re-used them anyway, but charged me for replacing them, just like the front-end sub-assembly. Sorry, Doc, but that's crappy quality, dishonest work. I'll keep writing these reviews as fast as you take them down. Caveat Emptor. Choose another shop. This one is a 1-star outfit. Let me add that IF you have had Doc repair your vehicle, you probably want to have it inspected by a reputable auto body facility. The fact that Doc didn't repair my vehicle per the estimate would indicate that he's done the same thing with other cars, and that you quite possibly didn't get the repair(s) you or your insurance company paid for. I haven't even walked in to meet Doc, but I know this is where I will be going when have car issues in future. I know nothing about cars. I called to get an estimate for getting the car towed in for diagnosis. Doc took time and asked what I am experiencing with the car. After all that, he recommended that I go buy a new battery and replace it myself at home so I don't have to pay for all services. He even told me where to go to get the battery. 1st time to this shop earlier in the year I left them a set of plugs and an ignition coil when my truck had a misfire. Told them if they didn't need to use those parts I'd take them back to napa and get a refund. After they were done with the work and said the parts weren't needed they couldn't produce the parts. I had to call several times to try to locate the $140 worth of parts that they said they didn't use only to find out by checking myself, they installed them for no reason. 2nd time to this shop (and solely went back based on the good reviews here) I recommend to always get a second opinion. This time I spent $100 for this shop to tell me my rig needed a new front differential in the price range of $2000 and they even recommended I cut my losses and just sell it as is. I've never heard a mechanic give up that easily. Not trusting this advice, I took it to another mechanic who obviously looked deeper into the issue. He found out that all I needed was a new 4WD actuator switch for $200. Back on the road and driving perfectly. read more

I moved to the area about a year ago and have had the opportunity to take my car in a handful of times for general maintenance, etc. When I bought my new (used) car, Doc made time to give it a thorough inspection, with photos, and told me to have the dealership to call him if they had any questions. My husband and I own an older car - 2003 Kia Spectra. It has run well for us for some time, until one day, it didn't. It would work sometimes, but then it would die and not start. We tried to do some fixes ourselves. We changed the battery, still happened. Had another mechanic look at the starter, still kept dying, even though we thought it was fixed. Then on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, it died again on the side of the road with no way of getting it out. We called Doc's and he had us call R&R Towing. It was convenient because they could just add the balance to the bill from Doc. He ran a diagnostic and looked it over, but it didn't throw a code, so he gave us his educated guess. It turned out to be a good one because he found a leak in the fuel pressure regulator. We hoped this would be the what made the car run, but either way it had to be fixed. Because the car was so old, there were some issues with getting the right part in, but Doc kept at it. He tried all day Wednesday to get the part and kept us informed on the process. Unfortunately, it didn't get done before Thanksgiving, but Doc did come in special for us on Friday afterwards. He got it the part and had it patched up that day. By this point we had spent all the money we had saved for Christmas on this car, but alas, it still didn't fix it. It did die again a week later and again we took it to Doc. We explained our lack of funds and he helped us out a lot by giving us a really good price. Luckily, the car did finally give us a code and he was able to get the part in (it was the crank shaft position sensor) and changed in the same day. The car has been running well since. SUCH a relief. We really enjoyed working with Doc because he listened to my husband and really worked with us to get us a good price. He is hardworking and its obvious he cares about his customers. He gave us a list of repairs that he thinks the car needs, but also told us how long until those needed to be worried about. All in all, the experience was a good one and if we ever need a mechanic again, we will see Doc in the future. Thank you so much! read more

Doc's was horrible. They did work that I didn't ask to be done. They didn't fix the problem. When I refused to not pay for the work that wasn't authorized they threatened to call the police. Totally overpriced. This place is the poster child for bad mechanics. If you take your car to this place you are begging to be ripped off. read more

My husband and I brought my car in to Doc's last week for a bunch of repairs (let's just say my car needed a lot of TLC from skilled hands). We initially went to the wrong entrance, but the gentleman who was working on another car there walked us around to the back of the shop where Doc met us and listened to our grievances with my car, then gave us an estimate, which was extremely reasonable. I think he offered to have us bring the car back the next day since he wouldn't be able to get to it right away, but as I could afford to be without it that week I decided to leave it there until they were finished with the work that needed to be done. So my husband and I brought my car in on Monday or Tuesday and it was ready Thursday. They let us prepay for the car before I came in to pick it up (even answering the phone half an hour before the shop actually opened- I know that sucks of us to have called that early but my husband was heading out of town that day so we had to get it done). I came in on Friday around 8:30 thinking the store would be open since Yelp lists his hours to start at 8, but the shop looked pretty dark and there was a sign on the door saying to call a number for assistance, which I did. After a few rings Doc came around to the front, greeted me and explained everything they had done for my car. He even showed me a trick they'd figured out to get my passenger window to open reliably without replacing the whole motor- it turns out all you have to do is press the switch to the side instead of straight on! Who'd've thought? Anyway, I had an overall stellar experience at Doc's. They fixed everything another auto shop either couldn't fix or never got to (depending on the issue), and for a reasonable price. By the way, I didn't find them to be sexist at all; at one point, my husband was kind of taking charge of the conversation and Doc was like, "Wait, Lily, what do you think?!" I thought both Doc and the other gentleman we dealt with were friendly, attentive to the issues we brought them and extremely respectful. read more
