The six years I've lived in Tacoma, Dodd's has cared for my car. Mostly maintenance, but also some replacing of warn parts on my ten year old car. I'm moving back to Oklahoma and Dodd's is getting my Mazda road ready. They gave me a list of needs, but said all could wait until I get home. I've been here twice, and both times I got great service and the price was better than anyplace else quoted me. I recently had brakes done. Jiffy L. wanted $420 for front brakes (no discs). Another place wanted over $200 for the inspection, and 220 for the brakes (no discs). Dodd's doesn't charge for inspections. They did brakes and discs for less than $375. If I could give 0 stars I would. I brought my car in for an alignment yesterday told it would take an hour and they would call me and after 2 hours no call, so I called them and they told me they couldn't do the alignment because I needed my inner tie rods replaced at $350 first. So today i took it to bitterlings to get my inner tie rods done at $320 and shortly after they called me to tell me I don't need my inner tie rods replaced and that Dodds lied to me. It's too bad bitterlings can't do alignments. They told me to try another place for my alignment. Dodds is a rip-off. Don't take your car there. If you are looking for auto repair other than alignments take your car to bitterlings. I know several people who take their car to them and they are honest and decent priced. read more

They tried to charge me 2x the price for a 02 sensor that is less than 40.00 everywhere stock not to mention the labor to do a 30 min job was ridiculous. Everyone has a right to charge what they want but this is why people have trust issue with mechanics because they are sneaky. Didn't do anything he talked to me about doing on the phone. I read my own code for the car and told them and they did the same thing I did after telling me they wouldn't need to look at it for a few hours because the code reader wasn't always right about the problem. Being an auto mechanic shop is a tough grind these days. Everybody's costs are rising. It's difficult to hear, "well sir (or madame) your vehicle needs $2500.00 in repairs." The truth is though that maintaining your vehicle is much less expensive than buying a new one every few years. That's why I go to Dodds. Have been for over a decade now. Much less expensive than the dealership and honest. "Hey look you don't need these repairs in the next 6 months or a year but this one here we'd recommend to do now." I appreciate that kind of stuff. I've had a repair or two not quite satisfy me over the years and they always tell me to come right back so they can check it out and clear it up. We went there twice - for an alignment- the first time they said it needed a new cv boot done they gave me an over inflated estimate - I said thanks and had someone else do it - but since they were the cheapest alignment in town I brought it back to do the alignment after the boot was finished. I was then told I needed something completely different done on my back left wheel. I told them I would be out to pick up my car in 45 minutes, I came back To find they were on a 15 to 20 minute test drive on a car they did no work on! I drive my car home, it is now making a horrible clunking sound from the right front wheel - that had been repaired by a different mechanic before sending back to them. I took my Trailblazer is to get an alignment and they told me my drivers side tire rod need to be replaced before they could do the work. Anyways, quoted me $130 for the part and $165 labor plus $69 for alignment. These guys aren't just over priced, they're more expensive than the dealer. Wouldn't recommend ever. p.s. Absolutely the best service available for auto care. Nobody else cares are much as the staff at Dodd's.

I do most the work on my own vehicles. But when I need alignment, a/c recharge, or anything else, I make it a point to drive to dodds. It's about a 90 min drive to use these folks. I had a civic that a tire shop did the alignment on and made things worse. Next place I went told me that I needed to replace my entire suspension with some insane multilink race suspension. Dodds replaced the front a-arms and it didn't give me a bit of grief since. The people are very honest and friendly. Clean waiting area. Staff has worked there a long time. When I get my car back, there's no greasy hand prints all over. Very professional. read more

I used to get my cal aligned at Dodds years ago. I broke fown near 5hem and pushed the Honda in. They had it fixed later that day and for half of what the honda dealer wanted. It is hard to find honest repair facilities these days. read more

Dodds has been so great to work with! They don't charge you for simply diagnosing a problem (like the dealership). They also work to find affordable parts for repairs on older/used cars. When our teenage daughter's car had problems and we were out of town, Dodds got her right in and took care of her. They are such a great family business that cares about its customers. My car had just hit it's 90k mark and I knew it was going to need a pretty hefty maintenance visit. These guys are great. Best deal on a transmission service I could find, and they checked the entire car free of charge. They even broke it down into what they recommended needs to be done now vs. what could wait so that I could break the bill up into parts over time (or even shop around for the services or do some of it myself later) haven't found anyone with better rates. read more

This place is scamming people. We were referred to them from a family friend. My daughters brakes were locking up. They charged her over 2300.00 ( for other things as well) it took a week. They said they did a complete diagnostic check and everything was good after they were done. 3 days later her car is doing the same thing. Now they say it is the master cylinder and is going to be 700.00 more dollars and take 3 days. A when they told her that her brakes were covered in brake fluid RED FLAG!!!! How can you have all the brakes torn apart and not see this, or to find out, they could have caused it to fail when doing the brake job. Later found out from referral that they loved them and they always have to take it back very shortly after being worked on because something else went wrong that they didn't find on their Complete Diagnostic!!!! Took our vehicle to Dodd's for an alignment and was told they would not do it unless we agreed to have some other work done first. My husband declined and drove straight to our mechanic who checked and assured us that said work did not need to be done! We got our alignment done elsewhere with no problem. read more

Took my car in, they said the rear breaks needed to be repaired, they charged me for it but did not properly install the push rod. I had to take it into another shop later after the break pedal went to the floor. They fixed the issue. I would not suggest letting them work on your car if you enjoy living. I was recommended to Dodds to fix my bearings. They got me in quickly to do a free check. After the work was done they noticed my ABS light was on and scheduled me right back in. To fix it they ended up having to replace the wiring harness-- and they did this at no charge! This shop is trustworthy, fair, timely and they did the job right.....
