I used to work here a while ago & I quit. NEVER GO HERE!! The owner is rude & disrespectful! He is lazy & makes everyone else do everything for him. All he does he sit on the couch, he doesn't interact with the dogs only to tell them shut up. his wife is a very nice lady and actually cares, but he doesn't he overworks the walkers doesn't pay them enough for everything they do. He barely cares for dogs. His own dog isn't even allowed in his home! She stays I. The shop 24/7. The dogs must be quiet at all times & sometimes get yelled at for playing with each other. I have my dogs groomed here when I feel the need for then to look like miniature Farrah Fawcetts. The groomer here is very good. I have two yorkies and this is right down the street from me so it's pretty convenient also. They do boarding and daycare, but it's really pricey. I have gotten free day care with the grooming (they better!) it costs me around $175 bucks to have my dogs groomed here. The place is owned by two brothers from Israel and they are so cute. I wouldn't recommend just taking your dog here for daycare or boarding because they don't have lots of space for them to run around. and for the price there is better. They either keep them locked up in this small space in the back of the store or have them in a cage downstairs. Not ideal. But. really because of the location it might be worth it, I personally would rather take the trip downtown to have my dogs boarded in a place where they can run and play all day indoors than to be locked up in a small space and for less money! The four stars are really for their excellent grooming services. I have always been happy with how my dogs look and smell when they emerge from the dog spa. Although, at this rate, I think I spend more on their hair than mine! read more

Terrible experience after 4 years as a customer. Never returning. I had confirmed a grooming appointment for my dog 3 weeks in advance, dropped him off at 9am and spoken with the groomer twice to confirm the cut for my dog. At 11am I receive a call that they are too overwhelmed with other dogs and won't be able to groom mine, despite him being the first appointment of the day. The owner/manager was very rude when he called and should not take more dogs than he can handle. After spending maybe 2ish minutes in conversation with the groomer and then asking where exactly the dogs stay after their baths the person at the front desk/owner entered the conversation telling me they would call me 15 minutes before the dog is ready and they don't like to keep the dogs there all day. I had no intention of keeping my dog there all day but said, "in the event that I'm not able to be there the second she's finished I just wanted to clarify exactly where she will be." The backstory (which I was attempting to explain when he became so agitated and kept cutting me off) is that at her previous groomer her leash was tied up to a stairway and she chewed through her leash and ran into the front Entry of the groomer where she could've easily run out into Lexington Avenue traffic. So I wanted to be sure that she was going to be crated because PS there WAS IN FACT a dog who's leash was tied up to the stair railing right by the entrance of this groomer when I went to drop my dog off, so it seemed relevant to mention that this would not work for my dog. When the owner told me he was about to cancel my appointment because he was too busy for this I told him never mind I think I'm going to leave, and I look forward to writing your yelp review." I left my English Setter Daisy for 5 days . my neighbor told me he saw my dog in the park few times a day when he was walking his dog at 6:15 am. Daisy looked very happy with the walker. This place is clean as a cleanest I've seen. You need to call few days in advance to get in for grooming. Daisy go there twice a week for day care. Absolutely not!!! would I recommend this place for your fur-babies. The spa is elegantly designed, but it stinks, the music is too loud, poor lighting, and overcrowded. The staff member that greeted me, clearly does not have a passion for for animals. He lacks dedication, patience and love to care for the doggies, as well as a few cats I saw. He was stressed out. Naturally the energy he transmits is evident on all the doggies and cats expressions.. When I attempted to greet a few he tells me " do not go over to them" while simultaneously practically yelling to them "shhh, stop" so i asked "what is the problem? poor babies" he says, " i will be feeding them soon." The Dog House Spa is one of those great classic New York City small businesses. Great and highly competent service combined with a fantastic friendly attitude. My dog has been going there for 7 years for daycare and boarding and baths and he is one happy camper! I have never written a Yelp review, but I have to with this business. I brought my dog there for grooming at 8:30am and told the receptionist I would be back around 6:00pm to pick her up. They told me that was totally fine. When I arrived at 6:00pm they told me I should really take her out as she hasn't been outside all day. When I asked why not he said 'I don't take the dogs who are there for grooming outside.' So, despite the fact that he knew my dog had been their for the entire day, he didn't take her out, or even tell me that he doesn't take them out if they are being groomed. I would have happily paid for their dog walking service had I known they were going to keep her inside for the entire day. read more

I dont usually write reviews, but after my dog has repeatedly pulled me away from the Dog House Spa as we walk to the park, I feel compelled to share his very bad experience there. The groomer and owner DID NOT follow instrutions on how I wanted my dog groomed. They seldom walk the dogs when they are in their care and the worst part is they can be very rough with your pet. After they take your dog down to the basement one never knows how they are treated. The very last time I brought my dog there, his chest was shaven so close blood rose to the surface of his skin. I took pictures and decided to Never send him there again. However 6 months later he is not over the trauma and literally pulls to walk on the opposite side of the street whenever we near the block.
