After over 30 calls to different pet boarding facilities and All saying " sorry,we are completely booked for the Thanksgiving holiday" Guided Footsteps Canine Camp came to my rescues! I will be fully transparent I am very protective of my fur babies so was a bit hesitant at first as I was only use to one specific boarding school to watch them however there was only room for my feline at that facility and not my canine. So unfortunately they were going to be separated. Alicia from Guided Footsteps was so thorough with her processes, very informative, communication remained consistent. To add, Alicia had A-1 review ratings, testimonials on google and her official website. Once o was able to get all my questions answered and agree to boarding, Alicia sent all her paper work electronically to review and sign off on. Very easy confident process. She also gives you an itemized break down of your daily charges for you to review before confirming the booking. There was no pressure, no fine print, no hidden fees, everything was straight forward. Alicia also has 5 fur babies of her own in which one happens to be a black lab name Buddy who looked like a twin to my black lab Onyx which was very cool! Onyx gained 5 new besties and I can tell he missed them. Alicia sent us daily updates and attached photos of Onyx playing or relaxing. She sent us the absolute cutest thanksgiving photo I'll post with this review. Alicia's proactiveness and communication brought my family and I lots of comforts knowing our Onyx was in great hands! She was never sick all 14 years of her life. She was given a 48-hour pain shot, without clear pain management post-op protocol. When the shot wore off, she refused to eat and drink, could not open her mouth due to oral pain, although she wanted to eat or drink. I seek TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY so these veterinarians would DO BETTER so other pet parents would not go through what I've been through. To this day, I'm still reeling with guilt, grief, and sadness due to sudden loss of my beloved cat. The failure here lies to the medical management and the lack of post-operative pain control provided by the surgical staff. This complaint involved 3 Veterinary Hospitals: 1. Hwy 5 Kay Vet Hospital, GA 5, Douglasville, GA--Michael R. Kay, DVM Lic #VET007972,Treva Marshall, DVM LIC#004176 2. Westside ER Vet Hospital, Lithia Springs, GA--Karen Barnes, DVM LIC #VET005544, Jill Myers, DVM (License Not Found); 3. Dogwood Specialty Vet ER Hospital, Marietta, GA--Molly Chadwick, DVM LIC #VET01027 My beloved cat did not die of chronic disease BUT due to vet's failure to recognize her inability to eat or drink by 3rd day although she wanted to. By 3rd day, these vets should intervened with strong injectable pain meds, fluid therapy, and potentially a temporary feeding tube. She was in such respiratory distress. She died likely due to the combination and duration of severe dehydration & anorexia which affected her organs and finally succumbed to sepsis. I SEEK TRANSPARENCY & ACCOUNTABILITY so these vets would DO BETTER to other pet parents and would not go through what I'm going through. I'm still reeling with shock, grief, sadness due to the sudden loss of my beloved cat. Chronological Outline of Events 1. Initial Visit & Diagnosis (July 2, 2026). The Symptom: Bluie, a 14-year-old indoor Russian Blue cat, was brought to the local vet (Dr. Kay at Hwy 5 Animal Hospital) because sometimes she was struggling to eat dry food and throwing it up undigested. She mostly eats canned Fancy Feast. 2. Diagnosis & Pre-Op: Diagnosed with mouth inflammation. Bloodwork showed slightly off kidney function (results minimized by staff), and a dental surgery was scheduled for July 6, 2026. 3. Dental Surgery & Immediate Complications (July 6). The Procedure: Bluie underwent surgery and had four teeth pulled simultaneously without my prior consent that all 4 teeth will be pulled simultaneously. Medication Protocol: She received a 48-hour pain injection, liquid Clindamycin, but NO take-home pain medication due to kidney concerns. 4. Post-Op Decline: After the 48-hour pain shot wore off, Bluie stopped eating and drinking and could not open her mouth. Dr. Kay's Remote Consultation: Upon receiving news of Bluie's decline, Dr. Kay promptly advised discontinuing the antibiotics and prescribed Mirataz, an ear stimulant cream, which proved ineffective and Bluie continued to refuse food and water. 5. Follow-Up at Local Vet & Deterioration (Dr. Marshall) With Dr. Kay on vacation, I saw Vet Marshall. My concerns were dismissed. Dr. Marshall noted a slight weight gain, but failed to review previous labwork, and noted abdominal bloating. Discussion: My discussion with Dr. Marshall consisted of Bluie's age (14 years). Dr. Marshall also raised quality-of-life concerns, but I told her to do everything to bring her back to health. She left the room without showing compassion.Fluid Removal: Vet Marshall later attempted to drain fluid accumulation from Bluie's abdomen and advised me to take Bluie to ER animal hospital. 6. First ER Visit (Westside Vet ER Clinic) Bluie was taken to Westside Vet ER in Lithia Springs, GA, and saw Dr. Barnes. Bluie was left all day sleeping without temporary food assistance, but was left with an IV with B12. Updates: Despite my multiple phone calls, the staff reported Bluie was resting comfortably. Around 9 pm, Dr. Myers later administered an anti-inflammatory and a stimulant, reporting she briefly ate and drank. 7. Discharge: The following morning, Bluie was handed over outside without a consultation with ER staff. Advised me to take Bluie to her local vet. She vocalized loudly in apparent agonizing pain during the transport back to the local vet. 8. Bluie waited for one hour outside waiting for the clinic to open in agonizing oral pain. She was received by Dr. Marshall once again. Around 3 pm, July 13, 2026, Dr. Marshall was frantic to get Bluie out of her care and told me to take her to a Specialty Vet ER Hospital, but the closest was more than one hour away. 9. Final ER Transfer & Passing (July 13, 2026) Dr. Marshall recommended transferring Bluie to a Specialty ER clinic due to fluid accumulation. 10. Groomers and pet sitters struggle with him constantly. Did I mention he is also an escape artist so he needs constant supervision. After being attacked at a dog park, Thor became extremely reactive toward other dogs. It got to the point where simple walks became stressful, and I could no longer take him to public places because of how intense his reactions were. I tried working with another training company and even attempted training on my own, but after losing his sister, his behavior worsened. I didn't want to give up on him, so after researching options, I decided to move forward with Sit Means Sit. After our consultation, I felt hopeful and enrolled him in their board and train program in November 2025 with clear expectations: improved leash behavior, reduced reactivity, and the ability to safely take him out in public. During his stay, I communicated that he has anxiety during storms and provided Trazodone from his vet to be used only as needed. I received daily updates and was told he was doing well. However, I was later informed he was still highly anxious and had been taken to a vet and given additional Trazodone. While I understood the situation, I was concerned about how frequently it was being used, as it was not intended for regular daily use. When I picked Thor up, I immediately noticed he was still pulling hard on the leash, even just walking to the car. Within a week of being home, his behavior regressed significantly. Walks became difficult again, and attempts to bring him to public places like coffee shops were unsuccessful. We did attend one group class in December 2025 at Truist Park, and that experience was very discouraging. Thor was extremely reactive, to the point where I felt like I needed to leave the session early. It was upsetting to see that he had just completed training yet was behaving as if he had never been trained, especially while other dogs in the group were responding well. The board and train package was also presented as including unlimited follow-up sessions, including in-home visits to address ongoing or situational behavior issues. That was a major reason I chose this program, as I expected continued support and the ability to work through real-life challenges in our home environment. Because of that, I did not leave a negative review immediately after the program ended. Instead, I reached out multiple times requesting in-home sessions so the trainer could address the issues that were clearly still present. In a five-month period, we only had two in-home sessions. Despite this, I remained consistent in working with Thor--taking him on regular one-hour walks and continuing to train with him on my own because I truly do not want to give up on him. Five months later, I am still dealing with the same issues. Thor is difficult to walk, remains reactive toward other dogs, and cannot comfortably be taken to public places. This has been extremely disappointing given the investment and expectations set at the start. To be fair, the team did organize group classes and invited us to attend. However, due to the distance from our home and conflicts with my work schedule, I wasn't always able to make them. When I asked for alternative support, I often found availability to be very limited. Most recently, I was told the trainer is fully booked for at least 60 days. Throughout this process, I felt like I had to chase support rather than receive it. I was not asking for additional help without reason, but rather trying to use the follow-up support that was included as part of the program. I was willing to invest in training because I truly want a better quality of life for my dog, which is why this has been so disappointing. Overall, I cannot recommend this program based on the lack of progress and limited accessibility for continued support.

We had 3 dogs (one just passed from…read morecancer) and they always treat us like family whether we're dropping off for some daytime fun or a week cruise. Our dogs board once a month or so and are always wagging to come in. They are excellent keeping up with medications as well which is so important, especially for us lately with older dogs. The current team Kacey has is great - the compassion and dedication they have, I could go on and on. They make sure one of our pups always has her blanket, and they took care of our pup with cancer like one of their own, and sent us a card when she passed.

After his stay, she provided us with homemade puppy treats, a "report card" of how he did and a dvd slideshow with pictures of him playing. You can tell that she genuinely has a passion for what she does. I know that Brewer had a blast while he was there....he was so tired when we picked him up that he cuddled up with me and slept on my lap for the very first time.
