I've been a lifelong fan of Kim, who was originally head groomer over at Canine Casa. Since she moved to Dog City, her fan club has followed her. She continues to provide exceptional haircuts and grooming to her clientele. Kobe is a 10 year old Shih Tzu and we've been loyal to Kim for nearly 9 years and she never fails to disappoint. Kobe is always complimented on Alki where we reside and walk 4 times a day. Many of my neighbors love Kim and Dogcity in West Seattle. The establishment is very amiable and professional and are always available. They are the "go to" for extended and short term stays and are extremely reliable in the care department. My two pups had a wash, blow out with nails trimmed in less than an hour and the total with Yelp check in discount was $65! They include nails in their wash!! One pup is a small and the other medium. Their coat felt wonderful, smooth and the undercoat removed really well. They had no perfume or shampoo scent - just a clean smell which I personally appreciate. Their nails we trimmed really short and well done with no cracks or bleeds (they have black nails so this is not easy to achieve) - and they came back home happy ... Which is an indicator to me as to how they were treated :) read more

Took my big fluffy dog here for his first groomer experience ever. The staff was amazing, they were very friendly and made me feel extremely comfortable. They even noticed how hyper he was and offered to let him play with the other dogs in their doggy day camp program. I loved that they put his needs first. He smells so much better and looks adorable. Both of my dogs go to daycare here and have been boarded. I have been greeted both coming and going with nothing but smiles and I know how difficult that can be in dealing with my two turds! Everyone from the owner in the morning to Rachel (my favorite!) at night, I feel completely at ease they are taking excellent care of my fur babies. I even found out someone stays at night with the boarding dogs. This makes me so happy! Moving to Seattle has been so much easier now that I have found these wonderful humans to take care of my dogs. I'm so NOT IMPRESSED with the customer service at Dog City. It's unfortunate, because they do a good job in terms of the haircuts. But they show no compassion for my pet, who is terrified every time we drop him off for a service. There's no leaning down and petting him, trying to build a rapport or anything. Instead, we've been told several times "Oh, he just does that for you." As if he's capable of acting. The last time I called to make an appointment, I was put on hold brusquely and left there for 12 minutes. When I commented on it, I was told, "Well, you called at the wrong time of day." Plus, there's a "why you should tip us" sign up that just feels so obnoxious to me. Of course I'll tip, IF you do a good job AND you're kind to my pet, AND you're easy and friendly to work with. I have a shaggy Aussie and I took him here awhile back in November to get groomed. It was my first and only time going here, and like an over protective dog mom I was worried about how my dog Boo would react. I told the front desk about my worries (he doesn't get along with bully breeds, dogs bigger than him, etc.) and they assured me he would be okay. And...he was! But, the three star is for the grooming they did. When they were done with him he looked more like a Cocker Spaniel than an Aussie. I literally didn't know if they gave me back the right animal and not in a good way. He almost looked emasculated. I told them to trim him down about an inch because it was almost winter, and I think they just left an inch everywhere. Boo had a pom pom for a tail. Pricing was right, I just don't think they understood what I was asking for. Poor duder was cold for about a month. I wish I had a picture! read more

I found them online and chose this groomer because they were close to my apartment and offered a $5 discount for mentioning the ad online. I found their pricing to be very high for mediocre grooming and $60 to groom my 4 pound dog is just ridiculous - it's equivalent to charging $1500 to groom a 100 lb dog. The haircut was okay but I had to send one dog back for additional trimming and was not happy with the amount of visible clipper lines. When I paid, they didn't give me the discount as promised with my online booking. I was even more disappointed when I got home and realized they hadn't bothered to clean or pluck my dog's ears, leading to excessive waxy buildup that can become infected. If I spend over $120 getting my dogs groomed I shouldn't have to buy ear cleaner or spend time plucking and cleaning their ears myself. What bothers me the most is the fact that they bribe customers with a $5 discount if they write a 5 star review on Yelp so they have unfairly received High reviews with this sketchy practice. read more

We were truly impressed with and appreciative of the caring attitude and competence shown by everyone we dealt with - not to mention how great our dog looked when we picked her up! I hate leaving a bad review but this place warranted it. My dog was injured during their care. Because my dog had been happy at Dog City in the past, I paid the vet bill ($200) and let it go. But when I inquired about another stay, the excuses were frequent. I spent time getting a letter from a vet, but that wasn't good enough. I'm regretting not asking them to at least pay half the vet bill (nor did they offer!). If I hadn't asked whether I needed to find another kennel they would have continued to string me along. DogCity is a Blessing! We came here for a grooming only and who knew it would be much more than that. Our dog was shy , a barker and aggressive towards other dogs while on walks. I work from home and he's a puppy with lots of energy! When I confided in Jan about his behavior and how frustrated I was becoming. She suggested a temperament test so he could participate in daycare to learn positive social skills. My Max comes home exhausted and well behaved. Cant speak to the quality of their grooming because we never were able to get our Dog into get groomed due to their complete and utter lack of professionalism. No one ever answers the phones. When were finally able to make an appt we were cancelled on the day of -they gave us no notice until the day of and didn't even bother to call us to let us know that they needed to cancel. We found out when I called 30 minutes before the apt was scheduled to confirm their location. Their lack of communication is completely unacceptable and they provided no alternative dates for us to reschedule- haven't experienced this level of frustration with a business for a very long time maybe ever. read more

In a nutshell: Horrible customer service, inaccurate information given, and hidden fees/requirements that are not communicated clearly Things to know: You have to pay for a temperament test and a separate day of daycare before boarding. They don't "do" packages even though they are listed on the website because they are too confusing for people. This is what I was told. For those who want more information: I wish there was an option to give zero stars. I had my doubts about this place from the beginning after reading reviews on here. The fact that their website doesn't have any pictures of actual dogs at their facility is a red flag to me. My dog spent a full day here so he could have the required temperament test prior to him boarding for the first time over the holidays. Even though the test would only be a few hours, due to my work schedule I needed to leave him there the entire day, which was fine because I knew he'd love playing with other dogs. When I picked him up there was a man yelling at dogs in the back, which was similar to a review I had previously read on here. This place requires a Kennel Cough vaccine every six months, which I went and got for my dog. I asked the vet about whether this was necessary since my dog had one at his yearly exam in June. The vet didn't think it was necessary, but knew it was a requirement of this specific daycare. When I picked my dog up from daycare I tried to get clarification on the total cost of boarding. The information I was given didn't match what I was originally told and I was also told I couldn't be given an exact cost of boarding ahead of time. Fast forward to three days before I am planning on dropping him off. I call and ask to speak to the manager to get clarification about pricing. She says that she will send me a quote via email. A few hours later I get a phone call from an employee asking if I received the quote. I did and I thought we were good to go. She then proceeds to tell me that my dog needs to have another day of daycare before he can board. This information was never communicated to me. I thought I had met the requirements by doing the temperament test and the full day of daycare visit on the same day. The employee said they emailed me weeks ago and that I never responded. I never received the email and they are unable to check their sent emails to prove it was even sent. Convenient. After receiving this information I started looking into other options and in the mean time they called me back and said that my dog was not welcome to board with them as he wouldn't be a good fit. I had a gut feeling that I should not leave my dog here, so I am somewhat thankful this happened before I shelled out almost $400. read more

Since my dog Lyla's orientation visit to her ongoing daily daycare sessions, the love and attention she has received has been nothing less than fantastic. Jan and her team treat my dog as if she were one of their own. My dog not only looks forward to her daycare visits but she leaves thoroughly played out. Our dog Scout LOVES Dog City! He starts whining as soon as we turn the corner to the daycare and continues to excitedly freak out until he gets to go in. He comes home happy and tired every single time which is fantastic! They offer grooming for their daycare and boarding clients and we have had Scout bathed there also and the groomers were fantastic. We just moved to Seattle from NY and have been relying heavily on yelp to find great new places for everything. This time, yelp absolutely delivered! Jan the owner is warm, friendly and made us and our fur baby feel really comfortable with leaving Laika to be groomed. Our husky is 13 and isn't too fond of getting groomed, but a major factor determining how well the experience goes is how well the groomer can bond with her and help her relax. Jan knows her stuff and just from talking to her when we dropped Laika off we knew she was in expert hands. She takes the time to give each dog under her care the love and special attention they need. Laika was happy and playful ( most importantly), clean and her paws had been shaved exactly how we had requested, when we picked her up. Needless to say we love this place and will be bringing Laika here every time she needs to be groomed! read more

We just had our first visit to Dogcity and I couldn't be more happy! We visited for a groom and left happy, talking, wagging, and with the cutest bandana. Cooper is a hyper and talkative little guy, with a sweet and submissive temperament, so he can be slightly confusing sometimes. Needy, but noisy. After the car ride home (letting everyone know along the way how happy he was) he has spent the past half hour running around playing with toys. The renewed energy is wonderful, and his haircut is fantastic. Even with a bit of matting on his ears the price was great. We'll definitely be back! read more

Ask my shih tzu which day care he prefers and he will tell you there is only one he feels comfortable and safe. As he enters dog city in west seattle his tail is wagging and he goes right inside. I take my dogs there and I can tell you this is a place I trust and feel secure leaving my dogs. My younger dog, a mix runs up the stairs to go play with his friends. Both my dogs are happy and clean when I pick them up. It's great to have grooming and daycare all right in one place. The staff in exceptional, really understanding the need for my boys. We have used Dog City for grooming many times in the last couple of years and always loved their service and staff. But, something has changed that is very concerning. This past week we took both of our Airedales in for the regular groom. The one older dog has been arthritic but has still been very mobile. He walked up the stairs into the shop, and into the grooming room without incident. When we went to pick the dogs up several hours later, everyone had a scared look on their face. I was told that Spyke would not be able to get groomed in the future as he could no longer stand. What happened? Everybody was very mum, making me immediately sense a coverup. I am not looking to blame them for Spyke's collapse, but he had to be taken to the vet as he could still not walk or stand the next day. I tried calling Dog City to get more info to help the vet with a treatment plan (was this a fall which could have caused a strained muscle? was this a fall on his spine that caused a pinched nerve? but---no information was forthcoming). I have since left 3 messages for Jan the owner to call me. Not a peep from her. If Spyke could not even stand to be groomed at the beginning as they said, why wouldn't they have called me before they began? And, regardless of what happened, you would think that Jan would have at least called to check in on Spyke. Now the sad part. Spyke never recovered. After that visit, he could never walk or stand again and stopped eating and drinking. We had to put him down 2 days later as he could no longer function in his daily life. So, we are still puzzled as to what went down. It may have just been coincidental timing, but the lack of response from my calls to Dog City lead me to sense they are trying to hide something. Do they think I will try to sue or blame them? Who knows since they won't even talk to me! Naturally, there is no way I will ever take my other dog back there again. The vet also finds their behavior very odd and has immediately pulled Dog City from their list of referrals. I would strongly suggest you to stay away from Dog City! read more
