Full disclosure: I have not (and would not) taken my dog to this daycare. Ive had to get my my car worked on next door at Tom's three times in the last month and, as I wait in line, or wait for my Uber, or even just get out of my car, there is just constant yelling and reprimanding going on at Dogcity. It's nonstop. I've heard them yell at dogs for running. Dogs who bark are yelled at. It seems really odd that you wouldn't want dogs to play at daycare. This is close to my house so I would have loved to consider using DogCity for my 1 year old aussiedoodle but I just wouldn't want her in such a negative (and loud) environment for hours at a time. I would understand if it was just one time (maybe a trouble dog one day or something) but I've had to get my car worked on three times so that's six visits of dropping or picking up and it's bothered me each time. I put two stars instead of one because it feels unfair to give a review for a service I've never used but this is just how strongly I feel about it. My recommendation is, before taking your dog here, go stand across the street at the YMCA and listen for three minutes; you might change your mind. read more

I was very saddened when I walked in to take my dog here. All I could hear was dogs barking and looking in the windows seeing them be so scared. Employees just sitting there on their phones not paying any attention to the dogs. I walked in to cancel my dogs stay as I was already there and Jan the owner was very rude when I told her I did not want to leave my dog at a place where he was not going to be watched after or paid any attention to by her workers. Now that I go back and look through the reviews numerous people have said that just by walking by you can non stop hear dogs barking and see in the windows how scared they are and that the workers don't pay attention to the dogs. I recently relocated to WA, and I have been looking for a good groomer in my new area. I booked this appointment three weeks out. They did a terrible job grooming my dog. Basically they shaved him down, taking away all of his Schnauzer features. Yes, he was matted, but they did not attempt to condition the hair and or comb out the matts. When I complained an argument broke out and the owner insulted me and inferred I did not take care of my dog. Interesting enough this same person when I dropped him off blamed my dog's matting problem on his past groomers. Lastly, the owner also refused to take my money and said she would call groomers to tell them I don't pay. What an awful person. Three things I've learned from this experience -- 1. If they don't let you tour the place, or have webcams to check on your dog during the day, something is up. This place gave me a peekaboo tour and didn't really let me walk around. 2. Ask how many dogs they typically spend the day there. Your dog may or may not be OK with 40-50 dogs crammed in a small space. Turns out, our dog is NOT OK with that, and that's not Dogcity's fault. 3. Ask what kind of "reprimanding" they do. Turns out, they don't like dogs to bark at Dogcity, and if they do, they correct with water squirts. Innocent enough, perhaps. But I would have liked to have known beforehand. Our dog is a shy, soft, sensitive soul -- she is a rescue after all. The intensity of a reprimand should match the nature of the dog, and the 2 times we've squirted water just NEAR her to correct behavior resulted in noticeable hurt, shock, and fear. All these factors resulted in her snapping at the handler, and she was kicked out of daycare. Zero tolerance policy, I get it, that's fine. This daycare just is NOT the right place for her, and may not be the right place for your dog either. Spending a few days here changed her behavior at home for about a week -- She wouldn't eat, wouldn't respond to us, and honestly seemed depressed. I just thought she was tired, but she was probably recovering from this her stay at Dogcity. Good thing dogs are so resilient, and she's herself again. She still loves dogs and still loves doggy daycare, just not at Dogcity. read more

We had a poor experience with Dogcity West Seattle. We booked a puppy cut expecting that it was a special rate for a dog's first haircut bc that is what it implies on the website. We even called to ask for more details about what a "puppy cut" is, and we were assured on the phone that it included everything we were looking for. However when we got there, they didn't double check what exactly we wanted, rushed through the consultation, and it was very unclear that they were charging us for the regular grooming price and not a puppy cut. We still don't understand the difference. At payment time, they said the website is outdated so it isn't right anyways. From my perspective, customer service is providing clear messaging on your services or taking the messaging down on your website - not telling your customers that the website is wrong and making them take the short end as a result. It's also realizing that you know more about dog haircuts than your customers who are there for the first time and need some information. It's not having a confusing intake process, and not being willing to resolve a misunderstanding in any way. They have lost a lifetime customer unfortunately so this seems very shortsighted. I took our 7-month-old puppy to Dogcity for grooming, whole works to include bath, haircut, nails, etc. Our regular groomer fell and broke both her wrist. I was excited to take her to Dogcity as I had used them once before with our previous dogs during the pandemic. It is important to note that our pup was groomed by our regular groomer about one month prior. I also wanted her bathed and trimmed as she had her spay surgery the next day. I took her in and met with the groomer to let her know what we wanted and differed from her best judgment. A few hours later, I received a phone call from the groomer and could hear Jan, the manager/owner, in the background, telling the groomer what to say. They told me that she just had her bath and blowout and that she was EXTREMELY matted all over, especially around her neck and shoulders and that this would require a super special cut that would go all the way down to the skin. I asked if we were talking about the same pup as we brush her daily and well as pet her all the time and have never felt a serious matt like a dreadlock they described. As she was having surgery the next day, I did not want to stress her out even more but cut (not shave) her to her bare skin. I told them I left it to their best judgment but let me see the photos first. After a few minutes of not receiving the photos and having a feeling in my gut, I called them back and asked the person who answered in our pup really needed this or if this was just a cash grab as they charge an additional $25.00 fee (as noted on their price list, for dematting. I was put on hold, and a few moments later, Jan picked up the phone and said they were stopping all services on my pup and to get her right away. I said I was uncomfortable with the "smoothie" cut to her skin, but please do a standard trim. She says they will be doing no more services and to pick her up, and she has three people in line and that she needs to go. I arrived back on site at what felt like an army base camp, and Jan bossing people around. A different woman brought out my pup and tried to show me the SEVERE matting they were talking about, but there was none. I told Jan that she was groomed previously, and she started saying the other groomer did it all wrong and would love to have a three-way call with her. I asked Jan why they could not do a cut on her. She needed her lady bits, around her face and anal areas trimmed. She said it was ALL or NOTHING, meaning the smoothie cut or nothing. She then mentioned that our pup could be in A LOT OF PAIN due to this SEVERE MATTING. She told me to check with a vet, and they would tell me the same thing. I asked her if I had to decide now and she said yes that they are booked through November so good luck getting another appointment. At this point, I just wanted out of there. They charged me the full price of a cut. I just put on my amex as I wanted out! My pup did go to the vet the next day to get her spay, and both my vet and vet tech looked at her skin and coat and did not notice any SEVERE matting that would require this type of cut! I also called other grooming services in the area, and they said the same thing. Everything from the vibe to customer service to Jan telling the actual groomer what to say on the phone was WAY OFF. Plus, if you read other reviews, you will see they tried to do the same thing to other customers! I have had dogs for over 30+ years, from Shcnoodles to Shih Tzus, and know what standard matting is and the type of matting that is SEVERE for homeless animals that never get bathed or brushed or groomed. Jan and her staff were so amazingly accommodating, especially with me being the crazy worry wart dog mom that I am. They had no problem with me checking out the facility beforehand and answering all my crazy dog mom questions. My little girl came back looking like a fluffy dream come true. I've visited this place 3 times for a full groom for my maltipoo. I will say, the groomer did a good job making the dog look nice, but each of those 3 times, I've had terrible outcomes in other ways. My dog has been to a bunch of groomers throughout his lifetime, and he has NEVER had these problems. I recently moved here and this is my closest groomer so I tried it out, but I won't be going back again. :( The first time, they cut the hair around his butthole short. Like, non-existent. As soon as he came back from the groomer, he started itching his butt against the ground, nonstop, for 3 days. He has NEVER done this prior to this appointment, and it made me so sad to see him so uncomfortable and sad too, but I just shrugged it off and thought "at least they did a good job everywhere else." The second time, he looked good too. He jumped up on me to greet me and he scratched me with a scar across my shin that stayed for a week. They had cut his nails - that's great - but they didn't file it down. His nails were so pointy I wore jeans 24/7 around the house until the sidewalks outside naturally filed his nails down. At least this time my dog wasn't unhappy, but like... isn't this basic grooming protocol, to file the nails down? The third time, from 2 days ago, was absolutely the worst and I won't be bringing him back. Again, my dog looks great. However, he clearly had a really traumatic experience in there. I'll reiterate that nothing like this has ever happened to him at a groomer before. Since coming back, he's been acting like a different dog. He's been a complete velcro dog, sticking next to me at all times. We have a second dog and they used to play together all the time, but now my dog after his groom is completely insecure and growls and snaps at the second dog. He literally doesn't play at all, and he has been VERY playful his entire life. He's completely miserable. I should've known he didn't like the place when he would be resistant to go into the groomers after the first time, but again, I was stupid and thought that was just him "acting out, as all dogs do". I feel really terrible for what I put my dog through in there, 3 times. But the third time has caused such a drastic change in his behavior, I don't even know what to do. We just relocated to West Seattle from Denver, CO. I've researched many groomers on here in my area and was left with apprehension until I found DogCity West Seattle. I read many reviews on yelp and was very encouraged and relieved to find their services so highly recommended across the board. I'm a mother of three boys, a pompoo, teacup yorkie and sweet chihuahua. I've diligently groomed my dogs every six weeks for the ten plus years I have had them. Due to moving, car in the shop and some other headaches I fell a month behind. My poor pompoo became horribly matted, it seemed to happen almost over night. His legs were one giant mat, mats on his tummy and a real nasty one under his chin. I thought he'd need to go to a vet to get groomed. I called DogCity and first spoke with Jan. She was extremely nice and suggested I bring my baby in so Dawn, the fabulous groomer, could assess him. I had to change times and next spoke to Jessica who was also extremely friendly and when I explained what was going on with my pompoo, she assured me that they deal with "special needs" dogs often and made me feel at ease. We just got home from my pompoo's grooming. Dawn is fabulous and the entire staff are friendly, personable and fun! Dawn reassured me that my dogs matting was related to the difference in climates (in Denver he never matted, but when I walk him here in the rain it causes that awful matting on his legs). I was so worried about him I had given him a sedative from his vet because he's not the best client. I won't do that again. Dawn was so great with him, holding him like a baby and loving him so he felt comfortable. She informed me that the sedative can actually make them panic more and she's like a sedative to dogs with her gentle loving mannerism. It won't be necessary in the future. We dropped him off, expecting to pick him up 2-3 hours later. He was done in under an hour!!!! We rushed to pick him up and he looks great! He's shaved and we have to start growing him out fresh which is fine with him and me! He was given a super rockin' Mohawk upon our permission. I know he feels so much better and Dawn didn't have any issues getting through the mats. He looks like a different dog and probably feels like one too! I was so pleased with Dawn, the rest of the staff and the overall experience that I will be bringing the yorkie and chihuahua next week. They aren't suffering like my pompoo, but are in need of some pampering. I found my new spot and wouldn't trust going anywhere else. I will use them for boarding as well as soon as dad and I can afford a vacation! I highly recommend DogCity! Especially if you have high maintenance dogs. I felt like a negligent mother bringing my baby in today but the entire staff eased that worry right away. They really do deserve the highest ratings. I've been through many groomers in 11 years. My trio of dogs has regular appointments every 6 weeks- I love that every time I start thinking "hey my furbabies are looking a little unkempt" voila! Then when I say they can be doing more, like for example get a free hair cut for the company failure, I get told by a gentleman I wasn't even speaking to that I needed to calm down. How about make the situation right?, and offering a date months in the future is not an acceptable attempt. We had used DogCity for almost 3 years since getting our pup. We don't have any complaints about their services or how they treated our dog. As West Seattle has grown, so too has their size. I was told my dog had recently displayed behavior issues- snapping, excessive barking- which they attributed to the increased number of dogs that they now oversee- anywhere up to 30 dogs from the 15-10 they had cared for before. To be fair, we had gone on vacation recently and was told Oliver was barking a lot- but they had commented it was likely due to us being away. I did follow-up on his behavior after returning from vacation and was told there were no longer any issues. I'm 11 daycare stays into their 20 stay package (and again have been using their services for years). They initially told me packages are non refundable (which is ridiculous since that would mean they are essentially kicking my dog out and pocketing almost $200 of daycare I paid for), but after speaking to the owner they would refund me my remaining balance but deduct $50 for processing costs (which is better than a $200 loss, but still ridiculous). My 2 star review is reflective of how they handled this situation. I'm fine if they see my dog being a safety risk, but refund me the rest of the daycare package without these excessive processing fees- especially if I have been a loyal customer for almost 3 years and this issue was dropped on us without warning. Again, my dog loved coming here. It sounds like the environment has changed with more dogs being cared for. That may be something you want to consider for your pup. It also makes you think twice before investing in a multi-day daycare package if they can decide without warning to kick your dog out with days remaining in your package. **Update in response to owner reply: Hi Jan. I'm sorry if you felt my review was disrespectful. I believe I gave concrete examples of what happened and was objective about my 2 star review. While it's true there was a period when my dog stopped going, as I said in my review- we came back, my dog was having problems but was told we could try again and then after daycare at this follow-up visit we were reassured he was no longer having behavior issues. I too, want to keep the environment safe and I would never want to endanger other animals. My dog was kicked out after we were assured he was no longer showing behavior issues and your staff rationalized his behavior being attributed to Dogcity caring for more dogs. My review was reflective of the policies in place that prevented a refund of the remaining days left from my $500+ package after Oliver was kicked out. Now you *did* eventually refund me remaining days minus a $50 processing fee, so I thank you for that, but your employee commented that practice was not the norm and my post intended to warn others of this policy. If you adjusted your policy, great! I also said Oliver enjoyed his time there previously but the volume of dogs may not work for some dogs. Those are fair warnings to owners/consumers before making a fairly large investment in a package. As far as my dog being a liability or being dangerous- we transitioned to another daycare facility in W Seattle after Oliver was kicked out and haven't had any issues since. read more

Great option here in WS! parking can be a little crazy because it's next to the YMCA, But take advantage of the 30 mi load zone RIGHT in front. 20.00 for 1/2 day (5 hours) If you go over that at all, you are bumped up to "whole day" of 30.00. I guess it would be nice to have some accommodations in certain circumstances. I would love to see them open on Sundays for daycare, I would use them a lot more. Multiple times they've forgotten to call us when our dog was ready for pickup, leaving him there for one or two hours longer than necessary, until I remembered to call and check. On our last visit, I was 12 minutes late to our scheduled appointment due to a work meeting going longer than scheduled and Dogcity canceled my appointment and filled my spot. I understand the need to fill open appointments but not being flexible and squeezing us in, especially for a loyal customer who's been going there for over a year, is ridiculous. They offered to put us on the waitlist which I elected to do for the entire week but they never called - either to fill an open spot or to schedule another time. The staff wasn't particularly nice. This place is expensive and wait times are months out so I expect better customer service. We won't be going back. read more

So, imagine my distress when, after driving around for a bit for a place to park to pop in and check the place out, I realize that there's no one even there. He had severe matting, sores on his leg from matting, anal crusted with fecal matter, and urine stains on the inside of his legs because of ongoing leakage. Dog City has worked very well for both doggy daycare and for occasional overnight boarding. The staff is very caring especially Andi, Jan and wrangler Dave. They try to give some TLC, but it is difficult due to the number of dogs to watch. They seem disciplined to follow policies to protect the animals, ie vaccinations, behavior, no toys,etc The space is a little tight with no real outdoor area, but I recommend Dog City for your pet that is fairly well behaved. read more

Don't take your dogs here for grooming unless you want to be rushed through check-in and your dog shaved. Customer service is even worse than the grooming. Schedulers don't know what they're doing, owner sends bitchy email about missed appointments when their staff is the one that made the error. Fast forward to the appointment and they shave my dog. My wife asks why and the front desk person said because she's old and they shave them if any matting. Okay that's fine... but then petty front desk lady thinks they should call back to tell my wife they told me they would shave her because she's salty my wife called the groomer lazy. The old lady groomer said two words to me when I dropped off. If they had any decency they would have called before doing anything. Now we have a Maltese that looks sadder than she's been in her entire life. To top it off, When she said she wouldn't bring them back, she was told "that's fine" in the most condescending bitchiest tone. Our other dog got a haircut. TERRIBLE SERVICE. I have been a customer for 2.5 years so I have had plenty of business with Dogcity. My dog has allergies and when left alone he can scratch himself. This is no secret and DogCity is well aware. We have had a couple of terrible issues one with my dogs tail having to been amputated from an issue that occurred at Dogcity. Now my dog left a simple grooming appointment with two swollen cheeks. I initially walked in to drop my dogs off while the so called manager or owner was arguing with a customer in front of me also be blamed for their dog being harmed while under their care. And this was confirmed by their vet! I was hung up on and yelled at with cuss words said by their team. Stay very far away, as they seem to care more about profits that the move of dogs. Worst dog grooming experience we've ever had. Our dog looked awful when we picked him up and is still freaked out by the experience. The customer service was also awful - not a single sorry or calm response when we called to complain. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and have talked with other dog owners in the area and they have had bad experiences also. read more

This is by far the best cut my pup has ever gotten. It also was the priciest, but I'll def keep coming back. It's obvious the good groomers cost money. Thank you for taking such good care of my baby. I'm shocked at the good reviews. The worst experience I have ever had with a groomer. On the way in, I overheard what sounded like a guy arguing with a dog in the back. Nevertheless, I brushed it off and continued in. I should have listened to my gut. I called and scheduled an appointment two weeks out. On arrival, three pages of paperwork to fill out which could have been sent in advance. Oh well, no problem. This was to be the first cut for my Maltese after moving up from the Bay Area. He does get small mats from time to time, and this time, having just moved, was no exception. Long-haired Maltese mat very easily even with daily brushings. However, the groomer indicated this would require a full shave and bellowed on about her "30yrs+" experience without letting me get a word in. I was taken aback by the complete pretentiousness. You need to be able to listen to customers and address their concerns if you want my business, and do it in a constructive way. The final nail in the coffin was the office assistant, who apparently didn't appreciate me contradicting the information from the groomer. She plainly implied that I was a terrible father to my puppy: "take care of your dog". Really? Judge much? Unbelievable. Run. Don't walk. read more

I really wanted to like this place as it's in such a convenient location for us. I've given them several chances, but I can't shake a feeling of suspicion about it. The first time we took our dog here, they didn't offer to give us a tour, so we didn't really know what it was like inside, but based on the great Yelp reviews, my instinct was to trust it was fine. The second time, I asked to see inside, but they quickly said that they can't just show people, that they'd be open to do it some Saturdays when they were prepared... Hmm.. Every other dog daycare place we've gone to has a lot of transparency - including open windows to see your dog from the outside, live webcams, and at the minimum a tour on your first time without being asked, so you can feel some sense of comfort about where you leave your dog. The reason I asked and became suspicious was because more often than not, when I come here in the afternoon, the dogs are quiet and I hear a man's voice asking a dog to be quiet.. at first I brushed it off as playful, but at my last visit, it had a tinge of annoyance and frustration. In addition to no playful noises or barking, I heard the sounds of cages opening and closing, a constant cry of a dog (sustained crying the whole time I was waiting ~2 minutes), and the man's voice again saying "be quiet you whiner" - non-playful. It wasn't coming from the grooming room either, as that door was open and there were no dogs there. I have no idea what goes on there, why it's so quiet, why strange man is always saying mean things to dogs (and not in a playful way), why I just hear the sounds of cage doors opening and closing and why they are so weird about showing the space, and why no webcams or transparency at all. WHY WHY WHY I should also mention that I got my dog groomed there once, and he came out smelling great, but I still had a few mats a had to brush out myself when I got home. Also, my dog has a lot, i mean ALOT of fur. Before booking, I told them his breed and asked them the price, they quoted me $55. When I picked him up, they charged me $85 - no explanation, when pressed, they said it was because of all the fur. I had expected that price, but they were not upfront with about it, nor asked me if that price was okay, given the fact that they had quoted me $55 originally. Even just a courtesy phone call, saying that it was a lot more fur than expected and if the price bump would be okay with me, would have been nice and considerate. Oh well, the convenience is not worth all the suspicion and lack of consideration. Btw, my dog did not come back tired or looking like he played much today (he usually has other dogs drool all over his head fur when he has played a lot). read more

Our dog has been a client of Dogcity for 3 years. He is a highly sensitive poodle who quickly picks up the vibe around him. Every morning he runs into the office ready for a day of fun. He is happy and well cared for. If he had a bad experience, he would refuse to go inside. Our experience with grooming has been good and a standard poodle is not an easy job. It is also so convenient as they take him while he is in daycare. The staff is kind and this is a real, professionally run business. We have used the boarding services on many occasions. Our dog has a medical condition, and there has been no problem giving him his medication. We feel so fortunate to have found Dogcity! read more

It seems like it would be an okay place. It's right behind my work, so I was looking forward to being able to drop off/pick up my dog right before and after work. Unfortunately they ignored my inquiry email, while another competing dog daycare answered me almost immediately. So the competitor got my business. Oh well. read more

Our 1.5yr old Great Dane pup loves this place! We started going here when I got too big during pregnancy to properly exercise her and she couldn't get her wiggles out. She has been attending regularly for about a year now and can't get enough. We recently increased her visits to 2x/week and now any time we put her in the car she thinks she's going to daycare and gets excited. She often bulldozes up the steps trying to get there faster. She's a very sensitive pup that mopes when her feelings are hurt and is scared of EVERYTHING. The fact that she's excited to go every single time speaks volumes. I was initially worried they wouldn't have enough room for her to romp, but she comes home exhausted for days! The staff know her by name and even come over to say hi to her when we're out and about in West Seattle! If you buy a package, they throw in nail trimming... which we take advantage of all the time (you try trimming a Great Dane's toes!) and they'll even dremel instead of clip, if needed (their suggestion, not ours!) We've also started throwing in a grooming session here and there. This is basically your one stop shop to doggy happiness. read more
