I ordered a pastrami and Swiss on a roll with 1,000 Island, mustard and onion. I was drooling imaging the mountain I was promised by those in the know. The sandwich was delicious. But as you'll see in the photo it was actually kind-of-small. Maybe I didn't order correctly. The coleslaw and deli pickle were perhaps the best example of each I have ever had. I'm already planning my return with a cooler so I can fill it with steaks and sausages. This place is the real deal. Take away - worth the drive for the experience and meat case. As someone born and raised in West Milford, now sentenced to the culinary witness‑protection program known as northwestern Connecticut, let me tell you: walking into Doghouse Bagels in Blairstown felt like stepping through a portal back to civilization. I came home for the good stuff -- the real stuff -- and Doghouse delivered like it had been waiting for me. The Taylor ham, egg & cheese? One of the best I've had anywhere in Jersey. Perfectly balanced, beautifully messy, and God bless them -- they slice the Taylor ham thicker, the way it was meant to be. The bagels? On. Point. Exactly what a Jersey bagel should be: chewy, shiny, sturdy enough to hold a sandwich without collapsing like my willpower around carbs. The service? Exceptional. First time here and I felt like a regular 30 seconds in. That's the Jersey hospitality I grew up with -- warm, fast, and somehow both friendly and efficient. I'm lucky (or unlucky, depending on my cholesterol panel) that I travel to Blairstown for work all the time. I'll be here way more often than I'll admit to my doctor. We had salads, which were a decent size and nice presentation, but I had about 50 mini olives on mine (way too much) and guess what? They all had pits! And many were rotten. I'm guessing they cut corners by choosing olives with pits, but that's bad for customers and they were bad quality. Lastly, before we were even out the door - with no more customers - the owner/manager came out with a large industrial can and sprayer of pesticide treatment, spraying around the edges of the floors.
