We stopped here after our 4 hour kayak tour of the painted rocks. We all got the burgers and they were amazing. Served with krinkle fries. Yummy peach cobbler and hot fudge sundaes for dessert. Service was polite and very fast. Will go back!!! read more

Stopped in yesterday with 8 of us for dinner and drinks. They had a long wait so we wanted drinks at the bar first. No bartender on duty. Looks like the waitresses take drink orders. No one wanted to wait on us. We asked someone if they had air conditioning they said "no its broke but we probably don't have it it's been broken so long" we decided to leave since no one wanted to wait on us. Stopped for lunch while touring the area. The lunch special was hamburgers and fries (with or without cheese) for $7.99. Food was good and hot. Staff friendly. Restaurant was clean. It was dark because of the decor and smells of kreosote from some of the logs. Definitely better than a two star from our experience. read more

Really dreadful. The theme of this restaurant harkens back to a 1950's era comic strip: does anyone even remember Lil' Abner? Dim, dark, the tables were dirty. We stopped here on a couple road trips through the UP while passing through. The 1st time we visited it was alright at best, but the second time will be our last. We had a very angry waitress that felt like she was doing us a favor if we asked for anything (waters, coffee, lemon). My family (grandmother, mom, & aunt) didn't want to ask for anything as they thought she would bite their head off. She was laughing and having a good time with other staff members throughout, but when she came to the table she acted like we should not be in her restaurant. When I went to the bar to express my feelings about her service, she was talking about our table to another staff member and seemed surprised when I was directly behind her listening. She did apologize for her behavior but didn't seem genuine at all. Basically, the food was below average but the service was what really made this experience lousy. Not really impressed. Let's start with the positive. Great perch. We went for the whitefish but they were out. They were also out of like three other things. There is a sparse salad and soup bar. The decor is tacky (I have a pet peeve of misspelled words on purpose.) The layout of the restaurant was not a good one. You enter in the same tight hallway as the bathrooms. There's no real host position so you just stand there until someone has a time to deal with you. The desert was old and sad. Had been here years ago while snowmobiling, thought I would stop in while waiting for a boat ride. It took almost 10 minutes for my party to get noticed standing in the door and be seated. Then it took almost another 10 for the waiter to come to the table with menus and take a drink order. We only ordered appetizers, which were good. The service could use a little lesson in attentiveness. All of our drinks were empty when they brought out our food, didn't ask if we wanted any refills until he came back 8-12 minutes later to check on us. Don't even think about eating at this place. It is very dirty and outdated inside. We stopped for breakfast one morning since it was raining and to cold to cook at the campground. They have a breakfast buffet that was 7.50 for adults, it had scrambled eggs, ham, potatoes with rock hard cheese on top, biscuits and gravy, sausage. Everything tasted like it was frozen or came out of a can, nothing was seasoned it was YUK. I would never step foot in this place again. read more

I want to love this place. I have tried, multiple times, but I just can't. The service is inexplicably slow even during low-traffic times. The food is mediocre at best, way overpriced for the UP, and the salad bar is consistently in poor, wilted condition. Spend any amount of time in Munising, and locals will recommend this place. I don't know why. Maybe in a small town everyone wants to support the owner. The restaurant is a local cultural fixture, but I honestly don't understand how it stays in business, other than duping tourists. Walked in at 8:30 hoping to eat after a long hike instead we stood in the doorway for 35 minutes waiting to be seated with multiple open tables around. We decided to belly up to the bar only to walk up to empty beer bottles everywhere and to wait another 10 minutes without anyone even saying hello to us. We left without even a drink. got a pizza with a few toppings. overpriced and the crust is pre-made. wasn't cooked all the way through. waited in line to be seated (in a hallway) and nobody ever told us how long the wait was or greeted us. floors had food on them and dirt. very limited menu. waitress didn't give us our change back, just took it for herself. Don't waste your time! First there is no hostess, so you have to awkwardly wait on a very narrow ramp thing to be seated. And that's if someone pays attention to you. Rude so rude! Older woman waitress. When we found out all they had was the breakfast buffet we asked her if she knew anywhere in town that would serve breakfast from the kitchen. She became very rude with us and said she didn't know and treated us like were a big inconvenience. We went down the street to the 387 restaurant and the waitress was wonderful! We explained our situation and she said they are out of whitefish and they always recommend other restaurants that have them because they want the customers to be happy. My group of 8 went to Dogpatch and the food was relatively good. We had the cheeseburger special which came with fries and the soup and salad bar. We got a ton of food for the price we paid which was great. The burger was pretty good although they did not ask how we wanted it cooked. Fries were good, not seasoned. I'd eat here again. read more

This place is terrible!! The worst food I've had in the UP. We went there tonight, Monday 8-12-19 and the place wasn't overly busy, we were sat at a dirty table, it took an hour to get our food, even though the pizza my son ordered came out in about 20 min. I only gave it a one star because I can't give it zero. The food was awful and overpriced. The only reason they're in business is because people get off the boat tours and are hungry, without knowing any better. The AC didn't work and neither did the ceiling fans. There weren't even blinds on the window and had a horrible glare in our face. Do yourself a favor and eat anywhere else. ANYWHERE. I will say the wait staff is very nice. I feel sorry for them. A visit to this apropos-of-nothing Li'l-Abner-themed restaurant (yes, it is) is like time travel to the 1950's, the heyday of kitschy tourist trap dining. The well-worn interior is decorated with large homages to the cartoon, and the multipage menu contains dozens of tediously hillbillified descriptions of dishes -- it's not only frustrating, but disappointing as well, because there's nothing regional or interesting in it; just standard diner fare with a salad bar. I will give props to our very nice, hardworking server for giving us the tip to order a local-whitefish sandwich, something not on the written menu; but the fish came to us pale and unappetizing; obviously not fried in hot enough oil, inside a mediocre bun. The prices were ridiculous for food of less quality than the average fast-food joint. We left wishing we'd eaten at one of the other local restaurants instead. read more

There is no need for you to subject you or your family to this place. Really! The menu is written in hillbilly and frustrating to read. The only items on the menu are sandwiches and deep fried chicken. We had the 'seafood' buffet for a mere $18. This gourmet meal includes a salad bar with 3 vegetables ( one of which being green tomatoes...they were supposed to be red) The restaurant reeked of moldy musty carpet soaked in grease. If anyone in your party has a gluten allergy, run away. Your two choices that don't get cooked on the same grill as buns or in the same fryer as everything deep fried are a baked potato with cheese on it and the salad bar salad (if other guests didn't get rowdy with croutons.) They make no attempt to work with GF. The way they first responded to any questions about GF was borderline rude. Also, the rest of the food was mediocre at best. I cannot recommend this place. There has to be better. I wish I had looked here first, we probably would have known this without trying it... :-( read more
