Carmela Josephine the sweetest dog who I adopted from Dogs Without Borders.

I am so grateful for everyone at Dogs Without Borders. They rescued Carmela from a shelter. The entire process was very easy and I now have the sweetest dog.

My wife and I love having a home with 2 small dogs in it. So when we recently had to let our almost 16-year old girl cross the Rainbow Bridge, we knew we needed to find another little dog. You can never replace the dog you lost, but you can fill the void they left behind. When I put the word out that I was looking for a little dog to adopt, one of my clients sent me a picture of a little boy named Spoon that was being fostered by Dogs Without Borders. I showed Spoon's photos to my wife and we both knew we had to try to adopt him. The adoption process has some hurdles, but that's okay. We completed the online adoption form. Next we submitted a video tour of our home. Then I had a nice phone chat with Chloe. We made arrangements to meet Spoon's foster mom, Amanda. Amanda and her mother were so welcoming and kind to my wife and I when they introduced us to Spoon for the first time. I had been warned that Spoon was a bit unsure of men and that he might bark at me initially. He did not and I was relieved. Even better, he took to my wife right away. I took my time and slowly worked my way to a seat next to my wife who was cuddling Spoon. When the time was right I gently took Spoon into my arms and it was good. We knew then that we wanted to proceed with the 1 week foster to adopt trial period. This was very important, since we still have our other dog to consider. During this process we were assigned a foster mentor to help us navigate the process. Nicole was amazing and very supportive. It only took us one day and night to know Spoon was meant to be our dog. So we went ahead and completed the adoption process, signed the documents and paid the adoption fee. Such a bargain for a priceless, perfect little dog. Spoon is the best holiday present we have ever received, and he has quickly become a comfortable and confident member of our family. We are overjoyed, with full hearts and so much gratitude for an organization like Dogs Without Borders. They rescued Spoon from a city shelter and gave him a chance at finding his forever home. We are so thrilled we can be that home for Spoon. If you are looking for the perfect little dog to add to your family, I highly recommend Dogs Without Borders.

DWB is awesome! They were very communicative and open about our pup. Chloe made a big effort to make sure our home was a good fit for the dog we were looking at, and we thought it was such a green flag that they put so much effort in! You foster the dog for a week to make sure that they are a right fit, and we really appreciated that and felt it really gave us time to make sure she was the girl for us, and she was! They gave us our snuggliest most adorable girl and we are so grateful. Don't let any negative reviews lead you astray, because they seriously are so great and just want what's best for each dog. I would highly recommend adopting from them!

We recently adopted our 3rd angel through Dogs Without Borders and are so grateful for the work they do. Stumbled upon DWB in 2014 when they were hosting an adoption fair at Tailwaggers in Franklin Village. I registered as a foster and fell in love with the first dog I was paired with. Adopting a rescued animal is a big responsibility, but one of the most rewarding commitments I've ever made! Many rescues in this city aren't mission-driven, but DWB is. The team is doing incredible work. Thank you for our sweet Bambi, Lulu, and Cheeks (now named Goose)!

I was lucky to be a foster for DWB and have officially joined the foster fail club! Everyone at DWB has been so supportive and helpful from the start to this sweet milestone of adopting my dog. You're paired with a foster mentor who checks in daily, and the communication and support from the volunteers and team there is terrific. I highly recommend working with them and supporting their mission!

Our 2nd adoption from DWB! Wife and I adopted from DWB first in 2012. This year, ready for a newbie, we knew to look first to Dogs Without Borders for small dogs. We spotted a 7lb approx. 4 yr old, long haired chihuahua named Taco. By the vids and pics his foster posted, he looked like our guy. I went to the next adoption event and it was instant attraction. Taco is now our boy and we love him till death do us part. Adoption was super easy. Everyone was very kind and helpful. Great experience. When we are ready for another, we will be back. Thank you DWB! Tim, Andrea & Taco

I strongly encourage you to check out Dogs Without Borders if you are looking to adopt a dog. Our 18 year old rescue dog passed away last year. We looked everywhere when we decided to find a new dog to keep our three year old pup company. After several weeks of looking I happened to find Dogs Without Borders and they had a dog that appealed to us. Communication with Chloe was very good and she answered all of my questions. After sending in a video and being vetted, we set up an appointment with the foster to meet Copita. The foster, Jewels, was also very helpful, accommodating and communicative. After making sure that we were a good fit and Copita got along well with our older pup, we proceeded with the adoption. Even after taking Copita, Jewels was available for follow up questions. The fee for adoption is very reasonable. Copita is home now settling in and we love her! There are so many dogs that need good homes. Please be sure to check out Dogs Without Borders!

    Benny!

We adopted a beautiful sweet dog thanks to DWB. Well organized and thorough organization. We are so happy with our little fellow.

    Brianna: officially adopted 12/11/24.

Post that phone call, my feelings about the way she handled herself Changed, and I was wary of her. Despite her assertion that I had no idea what I was looking for, I told her precisely what I was looking for: a bonded pair of cats that were a little older, say two years old or older. I had just lost my cat and my dog. I had also just lost my husband. All this within four months. I found my house too quiet without the pets and my husband, and that is why I reached out to Rhae. I wanted something to care for, a bonded pair of cats seemed exactly what I needed, having had cats all of my life. I never bad mouthed other rescue organizations, other than mentioning the southern golden retriever organization from whom my husband and I adopted two fabulous golden retrievers. While the dogs were great, the organization was not. Unfortunately, I am in very good company as pertains to being dissatisfied with that group, and I only mentioned it to Rhae when she specifically asked me if I had worked with other organizations. The forum of yelp asks for reviews. They do not ask for only positive reviews, they asked for both negative and positive, and I have given both, so on that issue and only that issue, Rhae was correct. The vetting of my house was not done by Rhae, it was done by the other woman, and we had a delightful time. Rhae is clearly a bitter and unhappy human being who calls anyone slightly older than she "elderly. "Indeed, I have let my hair go salt and pepper since Covid. That does not make me elderly. Indeed, I shared with Rhae that I had a major back surgery the year before, which is why kittens were out of the question because I could not bend as often as they might need me to. That does not make me elderly. That makes me aware of the limitations of my body and reluctant to jeopardize my health. That also makes me someone who wants to completely fulfill the needs of whatever cats I adopt. Don't believe Rhae's gaslighting. It is as fake as she is.

We had a very disappointing experience at Pet Orphans of Southern California. We adopted a dog…read morethrough spcaLA and were referred there for his neuter procedure, which was required as part of the adoption agreement. The issues began at drop-off. I arrived on time at 8:30 a.m., but there was a long line of owners and dogs waiting outside. Many of the dogs appeared to be puppies, fosters, or newly adopted pets still adjusting and difficult to manage. I waited approximately 20 minutes while trying to control my 65-pound dog. When I reached the front, staff said they had no record of our appointment and asked, in an unprofessional manner, whether I had completed the intake form that was supposedly emailed to me. I had never received it. I was then handed paperwork to complete on-site while continuing to manage my dog in a crowded environment. On the form, I disclosed that my dog had been experiencing chronic diarrhea since being picked up as a stray, that we were actively working with our veterinarian to identify the cause, and that our veterinarian had cleared him for surgery. Staff then told me they would not proceed if he had diarrhea. I explained that this condition predated the adoption, that the neuter was required by the shelter, and that we had already obtained veterinary clearance. Staff repeatedly went back and forth between me and the veterinarian before eventually presenting a high-risk consent form. The communication around this was especially concerning. When the form was presented, I was told that by signing it, I was accepting that if anything happened to my dog, it would be my fault. I understand that additional risks can exist, but this was handled in a dismissive and inappropriate manner. If the clinic had sent the intake paperwork in advance or reviewed the medical concerns beforehand, this could have been addressed prior to my driving an hour from West Adams to Van Nuys with a dog who does not travel well. I was also disappointed that additional charges were presented for items such as an e-collar, pain medication, and IV fluids. For a required adoption procedure, these added costs felt excessive. Pick-up was similarly poor. When my dog was returned, a staff member commented, "Make sure to take care of the diarrhea because he still has it," despite our earlier detailed discussion of the condition and treatment plan. While loading him into the car, I noticed feces on his cone, tail, and legs. This suggested he had soiled himself and had not been adequately cleaned before discharge, which was both upsetting and concerning from a sanitation and post-operative care standpoint. Overall, this experience reflected poor communication, lack of professionalism, and inadequate attention to patient care. I would not return to Pet Orphans of Southern California and would not recommend this clinic to others. I also plan to share this experience with spcaLA so they are aware of the concerns regarding this referral partnership.

I wanted something special even though I know I'll be celebrating my 200th review in no time. ;p I thought that BRLA would be the perfect place for this occasion. This is the organization responsible for allowing us to adopt our baby Kona. Boxer Rescue LA is such a great place but always have 100+ boxers that need a good home every day. As soon as one is rescued, another comes up that needs help. It's really sad that people out there mistreat animals to the point of cruelty. It really breaks my heart to see and hear such horrible stories. That's why BRLA shines so brightly. They accept any boxers that need homes. They even go out of their way to drive and rescue boxers from other shelters or rescues that don't care as much as they do. Their website shows all their current boxer dogs and try to group them by age, habits, and color. They even try to describe whether or not they are good with children, other dogs, on the leash, etc. It is purely volunteer work on their end so every day, volunteers show up to walk all the dogs whenever they can. They ask for donations to pay for medications, food, water, shelter, etc. They are truly in need of donations and for people to give good homes to their many family members. They hold dinners and wine tastings and auctions to try and raise money. I have never asked for money for anyone and I am not an official part of this organization but if you are in the search for a new puppy or senior dog or just a companion, please consider BRLA. They are a good group and they really care for their family. I am hooked and will always support BRLA as long as i can afford to own dogs and will adopt more if I can get a bigger yard. I love my Kona and don't know what I would do without her. She's a definite part of our family forever. I posted a few pics of Kona as part of my review. Please enjoy.
