Kind of a mixed experience, where we enjoyed our salads (the mushroom and The cucumber), found the GOSHNAN (sort of a meat pie) to be quite delicious and easy to eat by hand, and the signature rice noodle with chicken to be a let down (a little too much hot pepper seed spice and a little too little flavor). As ever with a Uighur joint, I'm open to trying again, since I find the cuisine interesting, even when I sometimes swing and miss. read more

1 star for the plain noodles. The bread (or butter naan) got to our table warm, by the time I took the honey bowl off of it and onto the table and grab a slice, the bottom of the Naan was rock hard and the surviving warm parts got rubbery. The server brought a replacement and did the same thing. Definitely heated from microwave. The buns that came with the beef dish was the same thing. 0 stars. Samsa was decent. This place is WORTHLESS!!!!! Do NOT come here if you want to eat or even receive any type of service at all!! We arrived for our 12:15PM reservation and ordered our food. Meanwhile, two other tables came in and ordered. Both of those tables also received their food BEFORE us, but we waited until 1:20PM to finally leave this pathetic restaurant. To top things off, the waiter chased us down in the parking lot to inform us that we hadn't paid for our food and we had to explain to him that we NEVER RECEIVED ANY FOOD so that's why we were LEAVING!! So glad my boyf and I decided to try! We started with the samsa which was warm, savory and tender. The korma chop was chewy and flavorful with chili oil and a hint of vinegar. Some of the best hand-pulled noodles I've had! It paired well with the mushroom salad. A bit pricey for what it is but would def recommend trying it out! After reading a lot of reviews we decided to try out the Uyghur cuisine . The korma chop did not disappoint, loved the flavor. Sui Roi Lagman was delicious. I found the Kezan kabab way pricey for the portion. Ambience is nice and colorful. I had the most wonderful experience in this place. (Cried a little when I write this) I ordered takeout on Wednesday around 9pm on Grubhub. But I couldn't pick up in 30mins because I worked late (I'm an auditor...) and I saw it on map that the restaurant is closed so sadly I had to get food elsewhere for that night. Later that night I got a call from the restaurant but I couldn't pick up cause still working... the restaurant kept my food and waited me until 10:40pm on a Wednesday!!! I normally hate doing this and would rate most places a 3/5 as the baseline. It would go up or down a star depending on certain factors: service, flavor, presentation, etc. This was my first time eating a cuisine such as this - so I do not have much to compare, so I shall be as unbiased and neutral as I can be. Service: A little slow. Although there was only one other table outside of ours, it was a little slower than I would have liked... so still 3 stars. Flavor: I was fairly disappointed here. The butter naan tasted like stale bread reheated in a microwave. The lamb within the noodle dishes and the kebabs were very dry/over cooked. The chicken kabob was bland. The noodle dishes were quiet oily for my taste. 2 stars. Overall, I would have kept it at 3+ stars, but I could not see myself going back to this restaurant in the near future sadly. read more

Really great restaurant - the food is very good and the servers are very kind and attentive. It can get busy at times but everything came out great still. I would recommend the following: For appetizers I would recommend the beef samsa - delicious and crispy. The lentil soup was also just amazing, I've never had a lentil soup so good in my life! If you can handle a decent level of spice please get the Korma Chop with Beef at a medium or spicy level. If you like sweet tangy and full of flavor I would recommend the beef kadlimat! For drinks - you can't go wrong with the Dolan chai. Handmade and can't get it anywhere else! For dessert I liked the Dolan cake as a prefer a more lighter dessert but I would recommend the baklava if you are looking for something sweet. Tonight we traveled to Central Asia for our family dinner, for a taste of traditional Uyghur cuisine. A first for us and a lovely experience. At the suggestion of the waiter, we ordered a few house specialties: 1. The Korma Chop, a traditional dish of handmade noodles stir-fried with green peppers, onions and chives, and a choice of meat or seafood. We opted to have ours with chicken. Unlike the Asian noodle dishes we're all so familiar with, Korma Chop noodles are savory and mild, seasoned with spices that I couldn't put my finger on for the life of me. The dish is as delicious as it is colorful. And it's a great option for a pasta-loving toddler. 2. The fried rice, curry-spiced with vegetables, a choice of meat, and a helping of MSG (yes, this is actually listed as an ingredient on the menu). We had ours with lamb and it was fantastic. Unlike pilaf-style rice, this used what looked like short-grain rice for an almost creamy, orzo-like effect. 3. The Goshnan, a beautiful, flat meat pie filled with small chunks of beef and lamb, tossed with onions and peppers. Again, the flavors - savory and mild - are unique and unlike anything I've had before. Despite my love for meat pies, the Goshnan was not my favorite. But I appreciated that it was made to order and served hot (at least 10 minutes after the other dishes). We washed this down with Dolan Chay, a pot of hot tea made of dates, roses, and wolf berry. Wonderful. Naturally, dining at Dolan's led me to read more about the Uyghur people, beyond the headlines, to learn about the culture and their flourishing community in the DC metro area. We made a reservation for Sunday evening which proved to be unnecessary as we were the only ones in the restaurant. Three or four people did come for pick up. We ordered 2 entrees to share. We had the korma chop with lamb, prepared mild. It's described as Uyghur-styled signature fried noodles with chives, onions, and red bell peppers. It was clear that the noodles were handmade and the dish was very flavorful. However the amount of meat was small for the price ($16). We also ordered goshnan. This is also described as Uyghur-style, meat pie stuffed with specially flavored beef and lamb and mixed with onions. The pastry was very flaky and yummy. The filling was just OK, with some pieces of meat somewhat stringy. It was served on lettuce or leaves of some kind that unfortunately made the bottom soggy. The portion was very generous. This item was $19. With no explanation, we were given a pot of tea. Looking at the menu now, I see it is "Dolan chay" or tea made from rose, dates, & Wolf berry. It was very tasty, even without the sugar that should have come with it. However, I'm glad we weren't charged the $8 the menu notes. My friend ordered chocolate baklava to take home. She said it was good. The service was barely ok. The waiter was watching his iPad when my friend arrived, and she had to interrupt him to get his attention and be seated. He barely spoke to us and messed up our check. If the food had been better, I would consider going back - but it was just ok. Or maybe they just had an off night. read more

I really, really wanted to like this place. The inside is quite nice and I was offered water or tea as I waited for a carryout order. The chewy noodles, which I would guess were house made, are quite good. The owners seem to be doing some very good work drawing attention to the horrible campaign of oppression China is carrying out on Xinjiang province. But, sadly, I just don't think this place is ready for prime time. It was in the midst of a soft opening and the food, other than the noodles, just wasn't good. 1. The bread called "butter naan" was, for all intents and purposes a stale, not so flavorful version of Italian bread, with honey...yes, just honey. I've included a picture of it. Perhaps this is traditional but it's not interesting, not buttery and, as it appears to be a conventionally prepared yeast bread that was allowed to rise, not naan as anyone I know would think of it. 2. Royal Laghman, advertised, as a spicy beef dish consisted of some small scraps of meat (literally) in a greasy sauce that had barely a hint of spice with a few green and red peppers and maybe two mushrooms. Just bad. 3. Spring rolls which we ordered to get something "safe" were soggy not that long after ordering. They seem to have been packed, for no good reason, with some greens which made the outsides soggy. 4. Meat pies, likewise, got soggy in a short trip home and were over-salted. There may be better choices on the menu than what we picked. And I really do want to like this place. But...well, I left disappointed. read more

Absolutely delicious handmade noodles, kebabs, and meat pies. As a Taiwanese American, Uyghur food to me seems like mainland Chinese food with some Middle Eastern flavors thrown in. I've tried one or two dozen asian restaurants in the area (chinese, japanese, korean, thai, etc), and I really think this is one of the top 2 or 3. If you're visiting for the first time and don't know what to sample, I'd probably recommend getting the korma chop (stir-fried handmade noodles) with lamb or beef, goshnan (baked lamb and beef meat pie with flaky crust), and lamb kebabs. If you have a large party, maybe consider the hot chicken stew (i.e., da pan ji) with a serving of extra noodles added. While we adore their main dishes and appetizers, we've found their slightly less popular dishes like the beef and lamb noodle soup and mom's laghman to be maybe 4/5 stars rather than 5/5 stars. Still tasty, but not *amazing*. Given that, if we were to try other dishes on their menu, I'd probably ask the waiter for recommendations rather than picking random dishes. The only small "negative" thing about the place is that their prices are a bit higher than a typical asian restaurant. The korma chop (stir-fried handmade noodles) is $18 and goshnan (meat pie) is $22. :') I suppose hand-pulled noodles are much more labor-intensive than the usual noodles at asian restaurants. At least the restaurant interior is clean and brightly lit, which is more than I can say for other places. read more

I will never look at Chinese noodles the same. The hand pulled noodles we had were one of the best noodles I have tasted in a Chinese style restaurant. I do understand that this restaurant is different than your basic Chinese joint but this place exceeded our expectations. We ordered so much food and let me tell you, of the 12 dishes including appetizers and dessert, we weren't disappointed by any of them! The tea was so good as well! I have a pretty sensitive stomach, so I usually stay away from spicy/ too much flavor foods but these dishes had the perfect amount. They also ask if you want mild or spicy, so you can choose your poison. I will say, on a Saturday night only 1 guy was running the whole floor. I felt so bad for him because he was literally running from one table to the next and dealing with online orders as they were coming in with such grace. We noticed that there was 2 people inside the "office" area just sitting. If you guys are short staffed which I get at these crazy times, maybe the owner/ manager whoever those people were, need to help out. Just a suggestion. We tipped well but I'm hoping this guy is paid well (did not even get his name). Overall I loved the food, highly recommend and will definitely come back. This little restaurant is tucked away in the silly shopping center. I knew about their DC location but was not away of the Chantilly location until just couple nights ago. It is decorated nicely, it's clean, and staff was very professional. We ordered samsa, lamb chops, and the homemade noodles with beef - All spicy. The food doesn't come together, as they make the food they send it out. So don't wait and just dig in and share. The food was delicious and it was a perfect amount of spiciness. We are going back and taking family back. We also got a pot of their tea and they keep adding more hot water on it. I absolutely loved it since we doing a lot of tea. We also got the pistachio dessert which was kinda like the pistachio baklava it was not too sweet which was just perfect for our taste. Ambiance- it's nicely decorated with photos which make you feel it is from another country. We wish there had been some ethnic music playing. Service was very nice and quick. However, the food left a lot to be desired. We had a samsa which is like a samosa, for an appetizer. Very small and I definitely recommend getting one per person instead of just one. We also got Goshwan which is like some sort of mince meat pie. The bottom layer of dough was so hard we could barely bite through it. The meat itself was rubbery and chewy. We got the fried green beans and those were fine. It was like eating some sort of chinese food. They weren't very fried, but tasted good. We saw other people eating bowls of soup and seeming to enjoy it very much. We were not wowed enough by this food to return. Uyghur cuisine is now my new favorite thing, and Dolan Uyghur gets the credit. We've tried royal and dolan laghman, pilaf, kawa samsa, goshnan, and rock pot soup so far - all were extraordinary. Even the dressing on the salad had a familiarity in a way I couldn't place, although I was informed it's "secret." Lovely decor, great euro-style service (no hovering, flag down your server for anything). Big cultural crowds in the evening a good sign of authenticity. A shame that prices are a bit prohibitive to takeout since I'm in the area regularly else it could easily substitute for other standbys, and we haven't yet figured out how to manage the overly-long hand-pulled noodles without making a huge mess - some tips, maybe? A minor issue that didn't ruin the dish, but had to remove a sizable chunk of unappetizing non-beef fat/cartilage from the soup. First time going to this restaurant. It looks very new and was clean. Took my mom and daughter for dinner on a Tuesday and we were the only people at the restaurant. We ordered the speciality noodle with shrimp, honey chicken, the lamb ribs, and the beef dish with fungus. I would say overall the food was good. The portions are on the small side for the price but the flavor was good. The specialty noodles I found disappointing as the noodles weren't impressive and almost tasted like spaghetti and the beef dish has very little beef in it. They were super stingy with the rice as it didn't seem like any of the entrees came with it and I had to keep asking for rice as they brought out about a bowl of it at a time in a plate and my food was getting cold waiting for it. We were charged for rice even though I ordered 3 bowls and we had 3 entrees and one noodle. We also got charged $3 for shrimp which was annoying as the price wasn't the same as what was on the actual menu itself which was electronic. There wasn't any service to speak of. The one waiter was on his phone the whole time and didn't once come by to ask if we needed anything and I had to waive him down each time to ask for water, napkins, etc. If you want an intro to Uyghur food this is a good place to try.
