It's a rare occurrence that I don't enjoy everything I order here. The portion sizes are pretty good for the price, and the food comes out fast. Hand-pulled noodles are a Uyghur specialty, so don't pass on that if it's your first visit. Personally, I can't not get their fried rice, and I suspect it's because the combination of chilli oil and MSG delivers a heavenly flavor. The restaurant itself is tastefully decorated, and all tables are kept organized and clean. The staff are friendly, informative, and I've witnessed them handle delivery order mixups professionally. My only gripe is that, sometimes, specific items are inconsistently prepared. the best, without exaggeration, place we have eaten out. the food was simply amazing. it was unique but not incredibly different from other asian foods, but truly an asian fusion! chinese ingredients in almost south/west asian flavors. we were truly blown away!! the korma chop was absolutely phenomenal. the hand-pulled noodles were smooth and just right. we had it medium spicy and it wasn't painfully spicy and just delicious. we had the goshnan with pumpkin and it was this delicious savory pie with great veggie filing. then the manta was very different from asian dumplings with a bit of a cumin/coriander tasting filling. Definitely worth order - do it. we ended with the Dolan cake. It was flaky and not overly sweet. i think i could do without the chocolate syrup - but that's a personal preference. overall, it was a GREAT experience. the service was good, careful and attentive. we watched locals come in and travelers as well! One of the best meals we have had in a long time. I had the MOM'S LAGHMAN and my wife had the GOSHNAN. Never had either foods before and they were wonderful. Also had the land and chicken kabobs. They were juicy and tender and delicious. I started the meal off with a samsa and it wasn't tasty. My wife had the Dolan chay tea and the wolf berries made for a sweet tea with plenty to take hame as well. Very tasty food at Dolan Uyghur. We split a variety of dishes with another couple and were impressed by the depth of flavor in most, and the quality and presentation was really decent. Although Uyghur food was a "new" type of cuisine for us, it is easy to see much of their Central Asian relationship to Chinese and Turkic dishes, so don't be intimidated! This place is not cheap but you will find that the food is somewhat elevated above what you might expect. I really do recommend it. Enjoy! read more

Haven't been the Dolan in DC to compare, but this one was great. I think the area has a lot of good, new Uyghur restaurants now. We had the Uyghur salad (light and refreshing) and hot stewed chicken. We got our order to go but might consider dining in next time; the inside is clean and nicely decorated. Really conveys the owners' Uighur ethnic heritage. We got the Polow and the Laghman noodles with chicken. The polow was perfect: the rice was soft and had a deep meat flavor, sort of like it was cooked in the broth. The raisins and carrots bring in a sweetness which surprisingly works really well with the beef. The laghman noodles have a texture and taste that let's you know they're probably handmade in-house. The chicken and vegetables were good. I think I'd prefer the sauce a little thicker though. Overall, great experience. I'll be back! read more

Five stars on the taste of food, but one star deduction on the slow services. I have been there twice and for both times, my orders came out at least 15 minutes later than what the waitress told me (one time my family and I waited for 40 minutes for one dish). However, the manager did come out and give us the sincere apologies for both times, which made me feel like they are doing their best and not because the kitchen staffs are being lazy. Quick advice is that it is okay to tell the customers that the food might come out later than normal due to the current staffing situation, and don't give the customers the false expectation and then cannot fulfill it. This is our first foray into Uyghur cuisine, so I don't have anything by way of expectation. We ordered takeout but live less than a 5 minute drive away, so the drive shouldn't have caused any serious degradation of quality. The flavor was good, but the menu descriptions are either very wrong or we were served the wrong dish. We ordered the hot chicken stew, the samsa and the butter naan. The samsa didn't have much by way of pepper flavor and seemed very floppy and hard to hold by hand, the butter naan had nothing by way of butter flavor and ours was very dry and seemed as if it would crumble into the honey that came with it. The addition of honey helped and if we were dining in, a serving of tea would have been great. Now onto the hot chicken stew. The description states that it is boneless chicken, but it was probably more bone than chicken. And for $30 (we ordered the small) that's a very expensive oversight. I definitely feel like the price was out of line with the final portion size. It should also be noted that at least our dish seemed comprised entirely of dark meat parts and having to get it off of the bone made eating the dish more work than we had expected. Also of note, the way the chicken parts were chopped left a lot of small pieces of bone in the bottom of the dish so if I were serving it to small children, I'd be very wary of that. The noodles were fantastic and I will try other dishes with them next time, and there will be a next time because the stew itself tasted good. I might skip chicken dishes though! The picture attached is the inedible portion of the dish which I put back into the serving container for reference. read more

The interior is kind of plain and simple and I think this place would be a great option more so for takeout. The food is so delicious! I really loved the lamb kebab and thought it was so tender. It's also so affordable to get a skewer. I also really enjoyed my korma chop noodles. I asked for them to be not spicy but if you like spicy I'm sure these will be pretty spicy! They were incredibly flavorful and the sauce that they are cooked in is very tangy and savory. I will probably get takeout from here and try more things on their menu soon! read more

This was our first try at Uighur food and generally it was pretty good. The noodles came highly touted and those dishes were very good -- korma chop and sui rou laghman were both very good. However, note that both are quite oily. The mushroom salad was interesting and refreshing but as others have noted there is no evidence of sesame in the sauce. My son devoured his chicken fried rice so no complaints there. Finally we got goshnan (meat pie). My wife's first slice was more crust than meat so that was not good. Her second slice was meatier. However, it's overpriced at $18.95. Overall a nice addition to the local Chinese food scene but order carefully. read more

Got a noodle dish which was very good 8/10 and beef dish with little bread/dumpling looking balls 7.5/10. I didn't love the beef. Was too overcooked for me, bread was ok but sauce was delicious. Skip the dessert 3.5/10. I thought I was ordering kenafe but it was not what I am used to plus it tasted old and stale. Service was great. We came to try Uyghur cuisine on a Saturday evening. We sat on the outside patio (2 tables). There wasn't anyone else at the restaurant but we saw several people enter and pick up carry our orders. Since it was our first time there, the host helpfully walked us through what all the dishes were. We started with the fried calamari, followed by the manta, whole red snapper and royal lahgman. Each dish had potential except was missing a final something... maybe a little more heat or seasoning. The flavor of the red snapper did not penetrate the skin. I separated the meat from the bones and dredged it in the sauce before eating it. The calamari was tasty but a tad salty. The manta was my least favorite. The thin skin was torn when it was presented at the table. The filling was bland and some of the meat had a chewy texture I didn't enjoy. I would recommend the royal lahgman, which was my favorite. It is made of a stir fry of bell peppers, onions and beef, all nestled in a velvety gravy poured over hand pulled noodles. However, the dish was again under seasoned and the dried peppers seemed to be there just for show. All my issues with the flatness in the flavor across the dishes would have been solved if a spice tray was provided. read more
