Actual rating: 3 1/2 stars. Well-lit, welcoming ambiance with pretty lighting, paintings, and decor. Service was friendly and welcoming, but we did have to follow up once or twice on some things. Otherwise, all good. In addition to the free mushroom salad with the Yelp check-in, we also had the noodle soup with "meatballs", the kawa manta dumplings, meat pie, and Mom's Laghman. The "meatballs" in the noodle soup were not meatballs in the traditional sense, but more like bits of meat and the kawa manta dumplings were bland, though I appreciate the number of vegetarian options to choose from. The favorite was the Mom's Laughman - a noodle dish with stir-fried cowpeas, potato, peppers, onions, tomato, and lamb or beef. For dessert, we had freshly made baklava. No complaints there! If you're looking to try some Uyghur food and happen to be in the area, I recommend checking this place out. read more

The ambiance is beautiful and unique, and the service is always attentive, friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable. In particular, the owner is quite a character. That Uighur food is so rare compels all to visit this restaurant; all the more so when you consider they are a significant minority in the true sense, with about half of the US population living in the DMV area. The opportunity to consume their cuisine and interface with their culture is a fortune not many have, and something locals should not take for granted. With that said, the food has influences from numerous cultures in line with Uighur heritage; and has become something of its own. To judge any of the dishes from a purist perspective of another culture would be to deprive oneself of the full potential to enjoy the experience. While a one-to-one conversion cannot necessarily be tendered upon the merits of biases, developed or cultural, appreciation upon the merits of presentation, consistency, and execution can be wrought; and for those reasons, I must designate a 3 stars rating. In the truest sense, 3 stars is a misnomer and difficult to judge given the lack of items against which to judge one-to-one or in kind comparison. Likewise, the factors I mentioned may be considered auxiliary. But in a pool of restaurants in a multicultural climate, there is a relativity and standard that are accordingly established, en masse, and irrespective origin and variant; and for these reasons, I could not, in good conscience, designate a higher rating. Risk, lack of representation of product, and rarity of dichotomy are all things I greatly considered here; as well as how much I like the people and establishment, and want to like the food. But the operative word in this equation is "wanted", in reference to liking the food; and, that, as a patron, student, and enthusiast of cuisine, is the ultimate adjudicator. Food must inspire, enliven, and embolden. Upon the first visit here, you may feel a partiality of these emotions given the difference of product. Over time and repeat visits, this begins to wane on account of the mediocre consistency and execution. In terms of ingredient quality, I will say it varies from above average to medium good. Likewise, the seasoning and contents of several items were on the blander if heartier side. Value is okay. For those in or traveling through the area, definitely visit this or the DC location a handful of times. There are other Uighur restaurants as well, but they are few in number; within the area, and even within the whole country. Regardless of your party composition, you will be able to find offerings that fit all dietary restrictions. As someone who would like to see this restaurant grow, my recommendation would be to monitor consistency, execution, and presentation. Even if that goes against what is part and parcel of the training and expertise of management, I believe working on these three elements would greatly expand this restaurant's appeal; for repeat and new customers. Likewise, finding ways to elevate dishes from an international point of view may not only attract clientele but compel desire from a greater array of palettes. read more

Had an amazing lunch at Dolan. Never had Uyghur food before, and was amazed by the rich, flavourful taste. It's a perfect fusion of Chinese-Middle Eastern cuisine. Everything we ordered was good. We stumbled upon this gem on a day trip to DC. We tried the Dolan tea blend, which is a mix of floral, sweet, spice. There's chrysanthemum, rose hip, dried dates, wolfberry - perfect for a gusty 40F day. We tried the beef pilaf - perfect spiced beef slices with rice, its served with a refreshing cucumber, tomato and onion with a sesame dressing. We really enjoyed dinner here. We stopped by without a reservation on a Sat night and the restaurant was at about 50% occupancy. We were greeted and seated right away. The waiters were all really helpful and helped us figure out what to order. We got chicken skewers (delicious), hand pulled noodles and 3 baked appetizer pastries. I got the chicken stew and the lamb kebab. The chicken stew comes in a large or small portion. I got the small portion and it's big. I got the spicy, and I have a high tolerance for spice, this had a nice warmth to it, I would have liked it a little bit spicier. It had a hint of cinnamon which was an interesting addition. I dream about the lamb kabobs that was sold by Chinese Street vendors. This lamb kabob was good, but I think they pretty much only used cumin and salt. My friend got the naan, it's nice and dense. If you stop in, don't miss out on their delicious baklava. They have three different options, Chocolate, Midye (shaped like a ball with ample filling), and traditional. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you are still getting familiar with Uyghur, it is the cuisine of the Uyghur people, mainly situated in the autonomous region of Xinjiang. We had the Uyghur Butter Naan, Kawa Samsa, Uyghur Salad, Vegetarian Uyghur-styled signature fried noodles .Vegetarian Polow, Chocolate Baklava, Baklava, and Dolan Chay. I didn't think I had anything that I did not enjoy. After all of this have to realize that Hamid came here in 2017 with nothing and without speaking any English; his love for his culture and desire to share it with everyone was his driving factor and why he was so successful. The owner and server were super nice and let us try some of their signature dishes, such as the Royal Laghman, Hot Chicken Stew, Korma, and more! It was as if it was a mix of middle eastern and east asian food styles, with lots of lamb and noodles. Like the Hot Chicken Stew reminded me of Filipino Adobo! First of all, it is super cool that there are Uyghur restaurants in the NoVA area, and I wish we had them in St. Louis. So I was really excited about trying this location out and drove 45 minutes to meet some friends here. It doesn't appear that you can make reservations for groups of more than 4 on Yelp's website, but you can call the restaurant. On my first attempt, either the connection was bad or the person who picked up couldn't speak English well enough, but somebody called me back and I was able to make a reservation for 4 less than 2 hours out. This turned out not to be a problem on a Thursday night - there were never more than 3 tables seated total while we were dining (7 pm onward). The service was very friendly, although slow at times - that was the overall vibe of the restaurant. No one in my group was in any particular rush, so it wasn't a problem. The food was delicious! I ordered the polow, and my finicky toddler very much enjoyed it (although she picked out the carrots). I also stole a taste of the signature noodles from my husband, and I'm hoping to return on my next trip to get a full order for myself. The butter naan with honey was also good, but I think I just enjoyed the bread + honey combination. Our waiter couldn't figure out how to separate the checks after the fact, so if you want separate checks, make sure to mention that before ordering! Recently visited this no frills restaurant. The royal laghman is good, you can order various meats and choose your level of spice. I really liked korma chop, this is perfect for those who like thick noodles. Uyghur doghap (yogurt) was a surprise, as I never thought raspberry yogurt can be that blue. I guess it is an acquired taste. Goshnan was a little on the dry side. Overall, it's an OK place for a quick bite. If you want a real Uyghur experience, something deeper, try Eerkin's or Silk Road Choyhona. read more

My hubs and I went there for a date night last Saturday night. When we walked in about 7, we were the only ones in the restaurant. It picked up with two bigger size parties around 8:30. The dining room had beautiful tapestries on the walls and it was clean and well laid out. We started out with a samsa, which a bun stuffed with beef and onions and the jelly salad because we ate here to try new food. Spicy jelly dish made with green bean starch, topped with a spicy garlic sauce. Interesting texture and nice flavor. We followed other Yelpers recommendations and got the hand pulled noodles. I had the chicken and hubs got the beef. He got extra spicy and I got regular spicy. We couldn't tell much difference in the heat levels. Noodles were delicious although a bit more oily than I usually prefer. We got the pistachio baklava to top it off, which was delicious. I hope this place makes it through the lean times. read more

I learned of this restaurant from seeing the Yelp reviews. Doing so, got me interested in trying Uyghur cuisine. I printed up their menu which comes with photos and descriptions of their items. My husband took a look and agreed that we should give this place a try. We made plans to go there this past Sunday. Our son-in-law and grandsons, whom we expected to see on Monday, called us and said they would come by on Sunday. When they arrived, we showed them the menu and asked if they were willing to try it. Much to our surprise, they all agreed. I called the restaurant and asked them if they could accommodate a party of 6 and told them what time we would arrive. They said "yes" and we gave them our name. When we arrived, they had a table all set up for us. Our server brought us menus and took our drink orders. They have soft drinks and teas. We all got soft drinks. My husband started off with the cucumber salad which consists of: "diced cucumbers with sesame oil and garlic sauce". The portion was generous and included olives with pits in them. The dressing was vinegary and spicy. He enjoyed it. When his salad came out, the server also brought us a complimentary bowl of mushroom salad (which was a nice gesture). This salad consists of: "black fungi and onions, house sesame sauce". The description didn't match up as the sauce was vinegary and spicy. I did like the fungi, which is also known as tree ear. Plus, there were onions and red bell peppers in it. We all sampled it. I would have liked it if the sesame flavoring was there. Our son-in-law and I both started off with egg soup which consists of: "eggs, water, salt, chicken broth and sliced tomato". We both really liked it. If you've ever had egg drop soup in a Chinese restaurant, this version takes it up a notch. It's a mild soup with great flavoring. Adding tomatoes makes a big difference. It came to the table piping hot. Next visit, I'm ordering this soup yet again. As for the entrees --- My husband chose Korma chop which consists of: "Uyghur-styled signature fried noodles with chives, onions, red bell peppers". He had shrimp in his dish as you get to choose your protein. He raved about it. Especially, he thought the noodles were great. It was a bit on the spicy side. Our grandsons got pearled noodles. Two of them got it with lamb (they never had lamb before and were adventurous). The other one got it with chicken. Two of them got it spicy while one asked for less spice. The lamb was cut into small pieces as was the chicken. The one who got it with less spice still found it a bit too much for him. Two of them had leftovers and ate them later in the evening. Our son-in-law got honey chicken which consists of: "honey-glazed chicken prepared with bell peppers and onions". The chicken was boneless white meat. He really liked it and said he would have it again. This dish comes with white rice. I got mushroom bok choy which consists of: "sauteed mushrooms and bok choy prepared in a house sauce". My dish was the last one to arrive. When it came, it looked nothing like the photo. Still, it was tasty and mild. It came with white rice. Nothing went to waste. From start to finish, our server did a great job. She was friendly and patient with us when we ordered our food. We look forward to returning and trying other dishes. I love Uyghur food and when I found this restaurant I immediately took my family and headed there. We were greeted and seated right away and while my family was as looking through menu I noticed the beautiful decor on the walls. There is paintings on the walls and all of them have a story behind it. The menu is filled with many great options from salads, to appetizers, noodle entrees, Kebabs and fish. We ordered meat samsa for appetizer and it is one of my favorite items in any Uyghur restaurant and here it was better version of all the other places. We also tried the lamb Kabob, mom's noodles with lamb and boneless chicken noodle large portion with extra side of noodles. It was a perfect meal, extremely flavorful and also I like my noodles to have some sauce and it had perfect amount of sauce. The noodles tend to be a bit spicy for medium spicy so be sure know if you have kids in the family you might want no spice. We were excited to try this place after wanting to go there for a while. Unfortunately, our experience was less than pleasant. We ordered takeout and brought it home and ate within 30 minutes of ordering. We got the big plate chicken, the spicy tofu, the shredded potato, and the eggplant. When my wife and I took our first bite of the tofu, we immediately tasted a sour flavor coming from the tofu. It wasn't in the sauce or any spices. It was the tofu itself. We didn't eat anymore. We also ate more of the big plate chicken. Within an hour of us eating we both were sick with diarrhea and stomach discomfort. Others who just had eggplant and the potatoes were fine. Our son, who also had the big plate chicken got stomach problems as well. Taking the after dinner experience is out of the equation, I would rate the food at around three stars. I cannot give the tofu dish above one star because it was sour. The potatoes were two stars. Normally shredded potatoes have a Christmas to them as well and these were a bit soft and flaccid.. It was also missing a slight kick of seasoning perhaps not enough vinegar. The eggplant was middle of the road. It was fine neither good nor bad. The larger disappointment was the big plate chicken. Again, I would rate that three stars, as it was nondescript and underwhelming, especially giving the price point for the dish. This is a very unique cuisine of food as I have never tried anything like it nor do I know any other Uyghur restaurants! Jumping right into it, the service was excellent. The only tricky part was the QR code may not work for some carriers and you have to ask them for the wifi password which they provide ASAP. The mushroom salad was refreshing as it's wood ear mushrooms with a slight vinegary taste to it. Unfortunately, I have to say the butter naan was nothing special or mind blowing, it was dinner bread rolls with some honey. I would skip out on it if you're not into carbs or anything. The goshnan was ok, the texture of the meat threw me off a little as I'm not used to eating pieces of fat from beef or lamb. Tasted like the filling of mandu but the side of the yogurt was refreshing! Moms Laghman tasted somewhat like a soften version of mapo tofu, without the diced carrots or onions. This is my 3rd time ordering delivery for this restaurant and it never disappoints. Truly one of the more unique restaurants in the area, as you don't see many Uyghur restaurants. This time, I ended up ordered the Korma Chop and Butter Naan. The naan was good, but it came with a honey dip that was very sweet. The Korma Chop was delicious and they actually make it spicy. Fir our main we ordered the Piter Manta which the menu says takes 25 mins to prepare... we ordered those than ordered the korma chop with lamb The Korma chop cane out quickly and we loved the flavors of the noodles... unfortunately the iamb was chewy so my husband had a hard time with the larger pieces... but overall we both enjoyed. Ate here last night for dinner. This food/culture is new to us foodie former NYers. The contrast of textures, spices & flavors is out of this world! Each order is made custom, & you can specify how spicy the dishes are. Chili oil is used liberally, so be forewarned! The servers are very attentive, & will even make suggestions if you're not sure what to order. Food was brought out promptly, and served with so much pride. Don't doubt that everyone of the crew takes great care that your experience here is marvelous. Had an amazing lunch here with friends. We ordered for the table: cucumber salad, lamb pilaf, chicken and lamb kabobs, and the Uyghur tea. Everything was incredibly flavorful. The pilaf was cooked perfectly and the kabobs were juicy on the inside and smoky on the outside. My friends had the honey yogurt and the honey cake for dessert and they said the honey cake was the best dessert they had had in ages. We came for lunch and were amazed at the delicious food and thoughtful service with perfect recommendations. I have eaten with my boyfriend and mother here 4 before, and it has been great. Last night it was a disaster. The food had a very long wait apps and boyfriend's entree finally came out, but my entree took another 10 minutes, those dumplings which are the biggest disappointment on the menu. We didn't seem to have a real waiter. I was forced to aggressively flag them down to refill our water and later aggressively flag then down to give us the check because they weren't paying attention to us at all even though the restaurant was less than half full. They got the bus boy to wait on us while bussing tables while the female waiter we have had before was very distracted first with the group of four ladies and she got the manager, I guess out of the kitchen to chat with them forever, no wonder the service was terrible, then the normal waitress woman was having some kind of negotiation with this other customer for a to go order who was sitting beside us. He said the manager was giving him a refund for various items. I wish I could get a refund for last night. We finally got the backup waiter to come to us for the check. He greets us with how was the food. I told him the dumplings were okay, but the rest of the food was very good. I was ticked no apology for the horrific service. I did a custom tip of 10%, because I was flabbergasted by this experience. Get the dry pot if you do eat here and the baklava. The good: Great ambiance, unique and large menu, and delicious food. I had never tried this type of cuisine before but it was so tasty and different from anything we'd tried before, also just the right spice level! They don't serve alcohol, we presume, in keeping with cultural practices. Instead, they have tasty hot teas. (We went in March 2025.) The reason for two stars off: (1) The large menu includes lots of great vegetarian choices, but the restaurant is not very rigorous in ensuring vegetarians don't have meat products mixed up with or even swapped with the vegetarian food. We ordered a tofu appetizer only to find out the "tofu puffs" were actually shrimp puffs. Ick. My husband found meat mixed in a vegetarian noodle dish as well. We overheard the people at the table next to us complain about a similar experience. (2) We had a young sweet server who apologized for the mistake and when we asked her to let the chef know, we sort of expected he may come out and apologize too. We then asked for a manager. Apparently there are two owners but neither was present on a busy Saturday night, and there was no manager onsite either. One of the owners showed up at closing but didn't seem too concerned when we voiced our issue. (3) Minor quibble compared to the above, but there were quite a few things on the menu that weren't available on this busy Saturday night, including all the beverages aside from the teas (ie, they had a long list of homemade juices etc.) Bottom line: As much we enjoyed the tasty flavors and the setting, the carelessness and apathy of the management makes it unlikely we'll return. It made us question what else was wrong that we couldn't see (hygiene etc). Which is a shame because everything else was so good. read more
