Best gelato in town. I personally like their gelato better than their sorbetto because i find their sorbetto a bit too sweet. Green tea and pistachio were the best gelato i had outside of Europe. If you want to go with sorbetto and you dont like it too sweet, strawberry would be a good pick. I got my hubby's b-day cake here and he loved it so much. It came with a thin layer of sponge cake in the bottom with two flavours of gelato stacked on top and chocolate decorations. Now he wants his bday cake from here for all his bdays.. lol. Great place, great ice cream, great prices for Vancouver. The only negative thing is that they don't accept Credit cards.

So Dolce Amore is now a wine bar, or has been moved next door to the family owned wine bar called Divino. This gelateria is surprisingly good and there aren't that many on Commerical Drive for some reason. The ice cream is creamy and rich, and is displayed to look like whipped creme. The flavours are similar to other Italian ice cream places, like Mondo Gelato and Amato Gelato, I really can't tell the difference between them to be honest. I mean it's not store bought Dairyland brand or DairyQueen, but they all kind of taste the same. A chocolate is a chocolate. The prices are great and the vibe on Commercial is always a big get. read more

Their flavours are strong and give a feeling as if they are freshly made. Well may be they are. I tried their blood orange and it was good but sugar coma hit me whenever finished one third of a scoop. Price is on the mid to higher end but you pay for the quality . Love, love, looove the gelato here. The prices are good, and the quality superb! They dont skimp out on the scoops either. Hands down, my go-to place for gelato. Another memorable point, other than the yumminess, is that the service has always been super friendly and nice, even under the busiest of busy situations. My only thing is i find the tiramisu to have a strong alcohol flavour more than others I have tried. They have some amazing gelato, and also cheesecakes and other bakeries for sale. I am someone who does not enjoy heavy, rich cheesecake, but they knocked it out of the park for me! Their cheesecakes are amazingly light, with a graham crust and they're a nice personal size so it's nice to share also, as big cakes are sometimes too much as stay in the fridge forever. Their gelato is full of flavor and as good as it gets. There's not too many flavors to choose from, but the ones that they offer are great! Great ice cream! And probably the best Stracciatella in town! Was a loyal client for at least 5 years - until yesterday:(. They did some renovations recently and it seems as if the management has changed - the younger generation took over. I always bought 2 liters for my family so it was a shock to hear that they increased their price by nearly 100% within two weeks. On June 6 they charged me the regular price of $26.90 (since I brought in my one liter styrofoam jars I got a discount of $2). Yesterday, they wanted to charge me over $45 !!!! Although I brought in my styrofoam jars again they said that they will use them but still will charge $1 deposit fee for their 1 pint glass containers (4 times). Imagine you bring in the container, they used it and did not provide the glass pint but still charges a deposit fee for the glass pints. After some discussion I've got a discount to "transition me" to the new pricing model. I paid $39.09 after all. Under the pretext of being environmentally friendly they are charging per glass of pint $10.48 plus $1 jar deposit. NOT A GREAT EXAMPLE HOW TO KEEP LOYAL CUSTOMERS HAPPY! This was certainly the last ice cream I bought there and I can only hope they get some real competition in the Commercial Drive area! read more

This is a reliable gelato place on the Drive, and I think actually, the only one in the area. The product itself is top notch, good quality gelato, made in house, with a variety of flavours. While there is nothing "innovative" or "special" about the ice cream they make, what is notable is the consistent quality. I wish I could give a higher rating, but I have to say that the service itself varies, and depends on who is at the counter. There is a young guy, who I think is family of the owner, who has been not the friendliest person around, and while not "rude" per se, can certainly improve his attitude and service, so that customers don't leave frustrated in dealing with someone so clueless about customer service. Not to mention, that compared to other staff, gives smaller scoops than what is the normal amount. The other staff are generally on point. Also, the prices for the "the drive" are a bit high, and not justifiable for the area, so be aware to have enough money. It's also a bit tacky for a quick serve place to have a huge focus on tips when paying (not against it per se, but quick in and out, come on ...) read more

The best gelato in the city. I travel to Vancouver from surrey just for the gelato. The customer service is always great - the staff love to help and always have a smile on their face which makes me so happy to come in there. All their flavours are delicious and I love that they offer ice cream sandwiches, cookies and pies as well! Such a variety that there's always something for someone to enjoy whether you eat in or take home to your family. We wanted to do something different for our wedding cake. I had been to a wedding once where they served DQ ice cream cake and it was the ONLY wedding I have been to where people went back for seconds (and even thirds) for the cake, where wedding cakes are usually dry and somewhat unappetizing. You could have a few bites and then put it away. I have been to ~25 weddings in the past half-decade and that was by far the best experience with cake I had. So we wanted to step it up a notch and get Italian gelato ice cream cake and we found Dolce Amore conveniently located on Commercial Drive in Vancouver and were able to work out 3 large slabs of gelato cake (6 flavours, 2 in each) for a very reasonable price! Guests at my wedding were raving about the taste and quality of the gelato cakes and I really liked the flavour combo I tried as well. I aimed for this wedding to be a crowd-pleaser, and the gelato cakes from Dolce Amore were definitely a smart choice. I would say the only hick-up we had with them was their 3rd party delivery company who first said they would deliver the cakes for $45 extra dollars but then took it upon themselves to call the place they were delivering to, and since they did not get an answer felt "unsure" about that and canceled their end of the service about a week before the wedding. That company (J B Refrigerated Delivery) is not being used anymore by Dolce Amore since this incident and they apologized on their behalf. We were able to customize each cake with a special message. I highly recommend them for wedding cakes or cakes for any other event you want to have happy and satisfied guests! read more
