This place has some of the best gelato in all of Vancouver! It tastes like the fruit that it's supposed to be AND it's soooo smooth and creamy. A date with my man lead to dessert here, which we took to go as we strolled around Trout Lake. The place was busy but the line went quickly. They let us sample a couple different flavours and then I picked my usual, the pistachio, and the cheesecake. But were stupendous. Though due to the summer temperatures outside, they were melting quickly. It was a wonderful end to a nice evening out. After my first excellent experience with Dolce Amore, I suggested it as a place to pick up a container to go while a friend was in town for the night from overseas. My guy joined us later as we ate our treat at my home. My friend and I clearly overestimated how much gelato we would need and I ended up with lots left in the freezer at the end of the night. It got polished off a couple weeks later, and was still very good. I was impressed at how well it lasted. I thought it might not do so well in a home freezer. The quality of the gelato is top notch. Really creamy textures, and flavours that are spot on. The staff are nice and helpful, even though they are super busy and probably stressed during the summer months. Gelato isn't cheap, which is probably a good thing, or I would indulge a lot more often. There's a hazelnut one, which has a name that I cannot remember, but ask the staff... you need to try it. Ever been to Italy and eaten gelato while sitting on the plaza wondering how you were lucky enough to have the life that you do? Ok, so that last time that happened to me I was 17 and an au pair in Torino. But, luckily, I can recapture that feeling whenever I want by heading down to Dolce Amore. This gelataria knows how to make a fine iced treat. Each flavour is hand crafted on the premise, in small batches, and tastes like Italy. The owner actually went to Italy to train as a gelato-master, and it really shows. The portions are not cheap, but they are certainly generous. Unlike some of the other gelaterias in Vancouver they focus on having a changing selection of about 30 flavours, but each one is perfectly crafted. If you are a pistachio fan it is a must-try, as is the limone sorbet and the blood orange sorbet. read more

Gourmet ice cream at decadent prices sums up this rich and sweet ice cream shop on the corner of Commercial Drive and Gravely. The portions are big, but they had better be at $5 for two scoops. All the flavors I tried were really delicious, but the ice cream tends to always be softer then it should be, making eating a race against the sun. Try the white chocolate raspberry swirl. While the store used to be large and able to handle the high traffic during the summer months, they recently divided the place in half and opened up a wine bar on the south side. Repeat after me. Affogatto. A scoop of gelato topped with a shot of espresso. Woo-hoo! This spot offers imported coffees, homemade gelatos, and cakes. I have yet to try to affogatto as my preference for a refreshing treat on a summer day won over the espresso. I will be back for it for sure. A vast selection of flavours to choose from. White chocolate raspberry, toblerone, green apple, bubblegum, limoncello, orange creamsicle, straciatelli, tiramisu, fruity sorbets.. endless! All looked insanely good. Sadly, my strawberry cheesecake gelato looked a lot better than it tasted. The gelato was smooth and creamy, and cheesecake gelato base a-ok. It was the strawberry drizzled in that threw me off. It tasted artifical, more on the candy flavored kind than the fresh flavoured with bits of real fruit kind I like. Why is this place listed twice under two similar names? Weird. Anyway, the line isn't too long. Pay first. Free parking around the corner. Compared to La Casa it seemed really fresh, just like the other Yelpers stated, and the lack of 1000 flavours was not a big deal. Same price. Two scoops in two separate bowls with tax- $9.00 Two scoops in one bowl-only 1.50 extra with tax, but one per person is all you need. I loved the chocolate and everything related to chocolate. I could not get the choco-peanut butter here, but my chocolate was so cocoa-ish and tasted divine. I was told the sorbets were just as good as La Casa; I'm skeptical. This one is much calmer. So the best thing to do is try both, (read my other review) and you decide. read more

A gelato outside Italy is never a (full) gelato, but Dolce Amore is something close to the real Italian gelato. I'm not sure if this review is a final one, because I'm going to Dolce Amore agin and I want to try a different flavor every time! Plus my first visit did count, because I usually benchmark gelato based on strawberry flavor, which was not available that night :( sad! I know. I sampled the blood orange and had a full scoop of apricot :) and it was really great! Not too sweet, not too sour, it was really balanced. My wife and kids picked the bubblegum gelato (how typical) and I tried the bubblegum, it was soooo goooood because it taste like bubblegum, soft and has some bubblegum bits as a bonus ... The server were somewhat friendly, but the owner presence seems to cause some tension in the whole shop. The sitting area is nice, but you feel that you're under surveillance 8( but wasn't so bad after all. The shop does not accept cards, which was a bit of a mess, where I had to rush and look for an ATM machine to get some cash! WHY Delce Amore why ???? Gelateria Dolce Amore is a must try on Commercial Drive. Here, you will find gelato from various flavors that are fresh and high quality for an extremely affordable price. Staffs here are also extremely friendly and helpful too. The only downside to Gelateria Dolce Amore, is that they only carry cash. So make sure you have access to the nearest atm or bring some cash before hand! As a self claimed ice cream connoisseur, I'm too ashamed to say that I haven't heard of this place until last night. I had the utter need to consume ice cream last night. My local grocery store was closed so I couldn't quickly get my Ben and Jerry's that is on sale ($4.99 at Safeway hello) and I wasn't going to pay full price ($7.49 GASP) at the 7-11 close by. I decided to give door dash a try because I had a free delivery coupon and saw that they were first pick when I searched for ice cream. I ordered a family favourite, Oreo, and one that's dubbed GTL (Gangsta Toffee Life), a mixture of vanilla bean gelato, buttered toffee, swirl of caramel, and chocolate chunks. I ate that bad boy within minutes! I went to town on it! I must say it's heavy on the toffee which can really get stuck in your teeth but this was a delicious gelato! I'd get this again but need more of the base than the toppings for sure. It's a steep price not going to lie, but it was well worth it! read more

This is arguably the best gelateria in the lower mainland! As a costumer, I really appreciate the fact that the owners took time out of their busy lives to actually go to gelato university in Italy! I am Italian, and I can tell you that they are handcrafting some amazing flavours, and the service is great! My children love this place. Also, as I live on the North Shore, I was happily surprised to find them at the Ambleside Farmers Market in West Vancouver a few Sundays ago (they have a beautiful little gelato cart that they move around the city!!) and glad to here that they will be regulars there throughout the summer!!! I went to Dolce Amore as a part of the East Side Brunch Crawl for Dine Out 2014. The first place I stopped at was Gelateria Dolce Amore because it was the closest to the registration site! Yes, I actually had dessert first thing in the morning haha. We were given two gelato flavours to sample. I don't recall the names, but one was of a caramel variety. The gelato was absolutely devine! I finally found good gelato in Vancouver! I would always complain that there aren't any good ice cream/gelato places in Van until finding this place. I've been searching for dark chocolate sorbet since I had it in Italy. The dairy free chocolate options at other places always use milk alternatives such as coconut milk that change the taste of the chocolate. For my wife and I this is our favourite place for gelato...not just in Vancouver, but anywhere. Selection is more limited than at some other places (about 20-30 flavours at a time), but this just makes choosing easier, and the flavours they do have tend to be outstanding. This is a warning against the milkshake, which we purchased for $7 but tossed after a couple sips. It was a disgusting watery waste of gelato and milk. I thought it looked weird but haven't had much experience with milkshakes or I would have asked them to make it over again. It wasn't until my husband eyed it and refused to try it that I realized my initial impression was correct. The gelato flavors we tried were all good but the shake was an insult. read more
