Pleasantly surprised by excellent variety of flavors! Rare find outside of the northeast. Pleasant server multi-tasked well while serving tastes to lots of guests at once. As others have said, the "gelato" this place serves is a horrible excuse for Italian ice cream. Every flavor we sampled tasted like the freezer and had that slime that ice cream gets when it's left in the freezer too long. To make matters worse, it's attached to a tourist trap gift shop that has some very strange smells. Do yourself a favor and go to DQ or Burgerfi for dessert. read more

Remarkably, South Padre Island only has a few places for ice cream. You would think such a tourist trap would have more. Thankfully, there are two Dolce Roma locations, and we went to the one at the south end of the island. There were a variety of flavors, and we tried several before selecting a medium cup. The medium cup was actually quite large and I don't think we even finished. The gelato was a delicious, although you might describe it as being a little more like ice cream than many gelato places. The gelato here has chips of ice in it. The ladyfingers on the tiramisu are super dry and hard, and I actually had a stomachache almost right after finishing. Also the cookie dough, which is what my friend got, had a very strong vanilla flavor. Not in a good way. read more

I'd like to give this place a better review, but I have to agree with some of the previous posts....not really a high quality gelato, not the full-flavored, creamy, melt-in-your-mouth gelato you were hoping to find, BUT, it's priced as if it is. The owner waited on us, super nice woman, friendly. Service was as fast as could be expected as there was a big group in front of us. Place was clean, so complaints there. They do offer some iced coffee drinks AND free WIFI, so I'll be back for that, if not the gelato. read more

After a great day at the beach, a major stop!!!! The service was amazing, they even were very generous on the portions. Overall satisfied.

I would love to be able to write a review based on the taste of the gelato at Dulce Roma, but when my wife and I went in and looked at the disgusting, melted sludge these folks call gelato, we immediately elected to go elsewhere. Walked in and had two samples, one of the chocolate and coconut. Ewww...Poor excuse for ice cream come on!!! Taste like water, no sweetness or flavor..like ice. Plus it smelled like Fabuloso! Not appetizing when you are there for sweet and creamy ice cream :/ Everyone kills for ice cream during the summer after a long day at beach ....this place is gross...sorry it's not Italian ice cream/gelato no where near gelato and no where worthy of being called ice cream. Prices are a little steep, but that's to be expected on an island/in a touristy area. Our dessert was great, we went back a second night!

After a couple hours on the beach, ice cream seemed like the perfect snack to get us through to dinner. Dolce Roma was on our way off the island, so we stopped in. There were many flavors, some fruity, some decadent. Most of them looked half-melted and sad. My husband and I split a large cup with 3 scoops. All 3 flavors were icy and freezer-burnt. We were trying to remember why gelato is supposed to be more exciting than ice cream. I say skip Dolce Roma for the Dairy Queen down the street. read more

I hear that Italian ice cream is healthier for you, so we decided to try it. They were opened and the waitress was helpful in our selection. It was late and one of the staff was mopping the floor which I thought should have been put off until the shop was closed. The tables were all put to the side and. Tasty ice cream with very real flavors, however, for almond allergy folks...be careful. My favorite flavor is coconut which was covered in almonds. Pistachio as well had almonds. If you have a nut allergy, it's best to stick with the lemon or pure fruit flavors and make sure there are zero nuts in it. Otherwise a nice stop off for something cold! read more

The place seems nice from a far. As soon as one approaches it, the odor of pee strikes one. I ordered a smoothie, and to be honest it wasn't that bad. Great place! I've never had gelato before, but we enjoyed it! It was early in the evening and we all had a sweet tooth. My kids were able to try samples of all flavors before choosing. Staff was super sweet and place was very clean! Only thing that I was not so happy was the price. Scoop in cone was a little to high priced for me. So we went with scoops in cups. This is the first bad review I have ever given on Yelp. In the past, I avoided writing negative reviews if the service was good, but this place is pretty bad. If I could give it less than 1 star I would. We stopped by this place last night after dinner to get dessert. The line was not long, but the service was impossibly slow. When my husband and I recieved our "gelatos" we noted that his was about half the size of mine even though we ordered the same size. We waited in line for the cashier, which must have taken another 20 min. We ate the "gelatos" while we waited. What they have here is definitely NOT gelato. Like many other reviewers have said, it's more of an icy re-frozen ice cream. I normally could forgive and forget most of that, though. I can't forgive what happened the next morning. About 8:30 the next morning, I decided to walk over there to pick up some coffee for my husband and I. It looked like I was probably the first customer of the day. A young Hispanic girl with glasses made no effort to greet me and was very cold. She just stood there staring at me. I ordered 2 caramel machiattos. She tells me that the milk frother is broken and she can't make that drink. I ask her what she can make. She says she can make frappes and lattes. Don't lattes require steamed milk? I ask if she she can make caramel machiattos without the frothy milk (I don't need to be fancy). She says the "caramel thing" is broken and makes an up and down pumping motion with her hand. I ask her if she can make white chocolate mochas. She gets huffy and starts babbling about "steamers" and the "milk thing" while waving her hands around. I asked, "Are you saying you can't make anything with milk?" She sighs and rolls her eyes and starts up about the steamer again, but she continued to be very incoherant and waving her hands around. I asked again, "Can you make ANYTHING with milk?" With a very snarky tone, she says, "Yesssss!". Then she starts up about the steamer again. I got fed up with her and left. It's not like this girl has a difficult job and she's giving her first customer a full-blown nasty attitude first thing in the morning. I just went to McDonald's next door. read more
