But I enjoy new experiences and menus with eclectic dishes. The menu had few choices for breakfast and I was unsure why it was suggested as a breakfast place. It's actually a good place to eat any time of day! The beautifully decorated patio provided the perfect welcome into their modestly decorated air conditioned restaurant and bar. When I say bar, it's more like a 1950s bar that you can sit at and have a meal at. Although drinks and meals were offered any time of day! The waitress was pleasant and helpful in suggesting add ons with my meal. But being a purist, I wanted to try it as intended. The food arrived in the normal amount of time. When I first saw my mozzarella omelette I was a little surprised! It didn't look anything like what it was described as! Oh well! I thought. Let's give it a try! My taste buds were happily amazed! Could this omelette smothered in mushroom gravy, green "pesto" and bread crumbs be the best omelette I've ever had?! The mushroom tomato gravy was so smooth! Along with the cilantro avocado topping. That tasted more like pesto, gave it the perfect zing! I had wished I the had ordered some toast to dip in the sauce. I could have done without the bread crumbs. But they were easily swept to the side. The amount of mozzarella cheese in this omelette led me to believe it was more of an omelette lasagna than a plain old omelette. This place is definitely a must if you are visiting Austin!

The most integral part of achieving this is eliminating wheat/gluten from my diet. I decided to review any and all products that I find helpful in my desire to be gluten free. My local Kroger is undergoing a great makeover and are adding several gluten free flours, mixes and frozen foods. I contacted several of the companies that have their gluten free products stocked and asked for coupons and brochures. Within a few days I received coupons and a handwritten note from Travis Jackson, a sales associate for Smart Flour Foods. In this day and time it is a rarity to receive anything handwritten by a person, let alone from any company. Flour made from sorghum, amaranth and teff is the basis of all the Smart Flour products available. This is a welcome thing for people that are not thrilled with flour mixes containing white and brown rice flours or do not like the tastes of bean flours. I'm not a fan of bean flours but I have no issues with rice flours. The Smart Flour Foods frozen pizza I ate (uncured pepperoni) was very satisfying. The crust edges had a crunch but the entire crust wasn't crunchy, yet it was firm enough to eat without worry of dropping toppings onto yourself. The sauce is distinctive but not overwhelming. I added finely diced onions and a few slices of regular pepperoni (to fill in the gap where there was a defect in the toppings). These frozen pizzas are very small (10") and it should fill up one person. The price (at my Kroger), at $7.99, is a bit steep, unless you don't have a way to make your own gluten free dough. Smart Flour Foods offers a gluten free hamburger bun but those aren't available in my area. As long as these pizzas are available in my store I will try to keep a couple in the freezer for snacking or light meals.

Nothing really blew my skirt up until I sampled the pizza crust by Smart Flour Foods. It is chewy, has great texture and tastes fantastic! Smart Flour Foods is an innovative local company that has created a "Smart Flour" using Teff, Tapioca and Amaranth grains. Since finding their pizza crust, I no longer suffer from serious pizza cravings. I simply make my own at home. Try pesto sauce, sundried tomatoes, caramelized onions, olives and parmesan cheese on yours. The pizza crust is the same one used by Austin Pizza, Brick Oven and The Grove where you will pay a three or four dollar upcharge for gluten free pizza. This creative company also offers 7 varieties of gluten free ready-to-bake cookies such as Triple Chocolate and Chocolate Chip Pecan and, Holy Mother of Goodness, they are tasty! A flatbread product, which I have not tried, is also available to use for wraps. Smart Flour Foods' products can be found at the Westbank People's Pharmacy, Whole Foods and Central Market.

Now, the real star: the gluten-free baked goods. We tried four different things, cookies included, and honestly? I was stunned. Not overly sweet, not dry, not crumbly, just genuinely delicious pastries that happen to be gluten-free. I don't know what magic they're working in that kitchen, but this is easily the best gluten-free bakery I've come across. A must-visit, no question.

Every piece in the store appears to be intentionally curated. Maaribu melds a home and gift shop with an in house café and bakery, creating an experience that's both relaxing and memorable. According to Mable, my server, Maaribu is a combination of the word Marfa (Texas town that has the Prada store) and Malibu. The brand is often described as combining Marfa's creative spirit, Malibu's laid back lifestyle, and clean Scandinavian design. The shop portion of Maaribu is beautifully styled, featuring furniture, décor, books, and gifts that have a modern flare. All the items are easy to peruse and get drawn in. The use of color is playful and engaging. Maaribu's key highlight is its café and bakery. The in house café has an assortment of coffee, wellness beverages, and dedicated gluten free baked goods. I bought a Rose honey latte, which was divine along with a multi-layer pastry. Mable said customers enjoy the quality and flavor of the pastries...scones, muffins, cookies, brownies, and egg bites are frequent favorites. Importantly, the café is reported to be fully gluten free, which makes it a standout destination for people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities, without sacrificing taste or variety. The outdoor seating and patio area add to the charm, making Maaribu a great place to enjoy coffee and pastries on a nice Austin morning. Update: After eating probably 40+ chicken shawarma wraps from here, I wanted to do an update & also…read morecorrect a few things from my previous review. First of all, after trying tons of other places, it's official - Salam's has THE BEST chicken shawarma wrap. I am quite literally obsessed with them. It's the chicken, the saj/Markouk bread, the Toum - everything comes together perfectly. If I could eat them every day, I certainly would and sometimes do. Mondays & Tuesdays are sad days for me. lol I still try other places sometimes, but I'm often disappointed. Unfortunately I don't live close by & my town has ZERO middle eastern places to eat. So that's also why I place larger orders. 1. Correction: The meat actually IS cooked and shaved from a spit. But, it's not paper thin and dry like some places tend to be. It's also not chicken breast. It's either thigh or a combination of both. Whatever it is, it's working. It's the best chicken I've ever had. I've tried to recreate it at home 100 times, but it's just not gonna happen. 2. I don't think I've actually ordered from here 40 individual times, but when I do come, I order several wraps. I special order them whole with no sauce or pickles so I can put a couple in the fridge to save for the rest of the week. They don't get soggy that way and are easier to toss in the air fryer or oven later. Then I add sauce & pickles later along with pomegranate molasses. I always keep a bottle handy. (HEB has it) Salam's is always really great about granting those requests for me. 3. They have added their baklava to the online menu. Yay! **If I could add anything to the menu, it would be little cups of pomegranate molasses. Personally, it doesn't affect me because I always get my food to go & I keep a bottle at home. But, I hate that other people might be missing out on it. I mix it with their garlic sauce. When you give your wrap a little dip, then take a bite, it's like a few seconds of heaven on earth. Think: that popular video/meme/scene where John Hamm is in the club looking blissful. Yeah, it's like that.

Service was quick, took maybe 7 mins for it to be ready. Looking at others photos and the description (included) I feel what I received was not the same, just fries and falafel with tahini sauce. Missing out on all the pickled vegetables. While the falafel and tahini sauce was excellent I do not feel like this was worth $25. Note, did not have the option of rice vs fries. Not a huge deal, but would've preferred the rice. Fries were solid. And you can select no spice or spice. Recommend the falafel and going in person if trying out!
