I would love to give a higher rating. I think this establishment is very cute and the staff is friendly. However, the pizza is a bit undeveloped. Too soggy I would say. When holding up the pizza it should be firm, not flop down. I even put my slice on the air fryer a bit to cook it a bit more. The flavor is good, I ordered pepperoni with mushrooms and banana peppers.

The spaghetti and meatballs were good, and the bread was fresh. Prices were reasonable for what you get. The service was kind and attentive, making for a pleasant overall experience.

Friendly staff, cute interior. Fresh vegetables in a nice sized salad to share & pizza items were abundant. Pizza sauce & cheese on pizza were tasty. Will return.

As a pizza lover, this was an absolutely fantastic experience. The story behind the owners was what actually drew us in when looking for a pizza spot on VA Beach getaway. The staff were wonderful, the environment was perfect. But most importantly, the pizza AND garlic cheese bread were top notch! You can see my actual reaction in this video, you don't even have to skip ahead because it was our first stop! https://youtu.be/eAr91JV8-K0?si=eJoi45W9My1x3Nac

I've now visited Dolcinea on three occasions. I've done one takeout trip and two in restaurant dinings. I'll start by saying that I'm an Italian food snob. I am not only Italian but we cook a great deal of homemade Italian food weekly. The food at Dolcinea has not let me down yet. I've been satisfied with the flavor, quantity and quality every time. I'll start with the Alfredo. I make Alfredo 2-3 times per month from scratch down to shredding our own Parmesan cheese imported from Italy. Dolcinea's alfredo is creamy and cheesy just the way it's supposed to be. Garlic flavoring does not overpower their sauce. It's a very well balanced Alfredo sauce that they make in house and you can tell immediately that it's not coming out of any kind of prepackaging. While I prefer my at home Alfredo it costs me about 5x as much to make the sauce for 3 than their entire portion costs after tax. It's a really great dish and you can add protein to it for a very reasonable price. It's good enough I'd stop making it myself if my wife would let me. The portion size is also pretty big, I think you'd be hard pressed to not be satisfied by the amount and quality of food you're getting with this dish. My 3 year old daughter has had the kids spaghetti as well. The tomato sauce is rich and hearty. It has good balanced flavor with a rich profile. We added meat to it and the meatballs and ground beef in general here have great flavor and complement the sauce very well. I was blown away by the portion size for a kids meal item. She ate well which is rare for her and I ended up eating what was left for lunch the next day. If you like a good tomato sauce you'll likely enjoy this dish as well. Both my daughter and I really enjoy the pizza. It's thin and not over sauced. My personal favorite is half cheese and half meatball. This is also the only restaurant my daughter has ever even tried a piece of pizza that wasn't strictly cheese. On our last visit she stole my pizza and ate most of it and I ended up eating the kids Alfredo we had ordered for her. If you like a thin pizza it's a must try. My mother is the most difficult to please. She's enjoyed all three of our visits and most recently she sampled the steak Philly. She really enjoyed the sandwich and once again it was a big portion. She was only able to eat half of it and really enjoyed having the other half for a lunch the next day. I'll add the fries were very good and had a good amount of crisp. I did not try the sandwich myself but my mother really enjoyed it. Overall here you're going to get great flavor and quality combined with a good portion size. We feel this place is a great value for the money compared with a lot of other options in the area. The pasta dishes are far superior to what Primo now offers. The Alfredo for sure really is multiple levels better than at Primo which is nearby. It is not only better in flavor but in quality and price. You can't go wrong giving this small family owned restaurant a shot.

The food and cocktails are executed with remarkable precision, but two deserve particular mention: the crab rice and the Espresso Martini Dark. The crab rice performs that wonderful Italian trick of making something luxurious without making it precious. A seemingly humble dish is elevated into something genuinely gourmet--rich and deeply flavorful in every bite. Then comes the Espresso Martini Dark. Its pleasure lies in balance--the invigorating cold bitterness of fresh espresso against the measured sweetness of Kahlúa. Neither wins, which is precisely why the cocktail does. The bartender is equally accomplished behind the bar and in the increasingly neglected art of hospitality. Its outdoor seating has the easy elegance of a little restaurant one might stumble upon in Italy or Buenos Aires: intimate, convivial, and seemingly unconcerned with trying too hard.

Upon arrival we were greeted and immediately sat. A gentleman brought us all waters and explained that our server would be with us shortly. Our server was very nice. I ordered the special, sausage and shrimp tortellini with asparagus and pesto. Our fried mozzarella appetizer was pretty good. The mozzarella on its own was a little bland but the marinara had great flavor. When they brought out our entrees I was excited. My dish was barely lukewarm. I think the sausage would have been better had it been seared but it seemed to just be sliced and warmed in the dish. It was rubbery. I couldn't taste pesto which was disappointing. Underneath everything was just very watery. The shrimp had that texture that it gets when it's overcooked. Overall I didn't really like any aspect of the dish. My husband's tortellini was good and still very warm. The garlic green beans he ordered had amazing flavor. Both of my sons said their fettuccine was mushy. I'm glad we gave it a try but sometimes things are a hit or a miss. Unfortunately this was a miss for us.

The ceiling tile above our table was literally falling out and looked like it was one bump away from landing on someone. On top of that, it was uncomfortably hot inside. Considering how hot it was outside, it seemed like the air conditioning either wasn't working or wasn't turned on. The biggest disappointment was the service and how the restaurant handled multiple mistakes. We had a party of eight, and our checks were completely messed up--including one check that somehow had a 42% gratuity added. That's the kind of error that should have been easy to correct. Things only got worse from there. One person's leftovers were taken to be boxed up and never came back. When we asked about them, they returned with a steaming hot container of broth and tomatoes... except the original meal was seafood with shrimp, mussels, and fish. It was obvious the food had been lost and hastily replaced. Another friend had his leftover pizza dropped in the kitchen. To make up for it, they offered him a complimentary dessert... then actually charged him for it. The final straw was the interaction with the "manager." When one of our friends politely questioned her bill, he immediately became aggressive and said, "How can I fix this problem? I'm not a mind reader." Instead of listening, he became defensive from the start. He first offered about $80 worth of desserts, then agreed to remove part of the bill instead. A short time later, he returned and claimed he couldn't do anything because "the manager wasn't in yet"--despite presenting himself as the manager moments earlier. The entire interaction was rude, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. The only bright spot of the evening was our waitress. She was kind, attentive, and clearly doing her best despite everything going wrong around her. Mistakes happen, but she handled herself with professionalism and kindness all night. Unfortunately, between the mediocre food, the multiple service failures, and the way management treated our group, this was not an experience I'd want to repeat.

We were greeted immediately, seated right away, and our waitress was attentive and friendly throughout the evening. Before ordering, I actually spoke with the owner, Gaston, because I wanted his recommendation for the best steak on the menu. He confidently recommended the Cowboy Ribeye, assuring me that it was one of their signature steaks. I ordered it medium rare with a little char, exactly the way I enjoy it. I also asked if I could substitute the mashed potatoes and broccoli for another side since I don't eat either of those. I was told substitutions were not allowed. For a $60 steak, I found that disappointing. I wasn't asking for anything extravagant--just a different vegetable or a simple side salad. When my steak arrived, it was much smaller than I expected for the price and didn't resemble the Cowboy Ribeye I was anticipating. It was cooked slightly over medium rare, and while it wasn't terrible, the flavor was only average and had a slightly off taste, almost as if the broiler hadn't been cleaned recently. To make matters worse, the mashed potatoes and broccoli I had specifically asked to leave off the plate were served anyway. To be fair, the service was excellent. Our waitress handled everything professionally and even apologized for the sides, explaining the kitchen had plated them before she could stop it. The chicken scallopini ordered by someone else in our party was very good, and the other chicken entrées were also enjoyed. Unfortunately, I came for the steak, and that's where the experience fell well short of expectations. At this price point, I expected a high-quality cut of beef, some flexibility with side dishes, and an overall experience that matched the cost. Instead, it felt like every effort was made to minimize portions and avoid accommodating a simple request. I always try to support local restaurants, and I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews. But when you're paying premium prices, the food should reflect it. Based on my experience, I can't recommend the steaks here.

For me, the veal marsala is my go-to- a large portion perfectly cooked and seasoned. I have never left a drop on the plate. This is hands down one of my favorite places in town and one we will continue to go back to every trip here.
