I can't remember how I heard about this place but I knew I wanted to try it next time we went to VA Beach so I made a reservation for a Saturday night pretty far in advance. Early dinner because of the child. My husband and I shared the rigatoni with sausage and the chicken pesto pasta. They were both really good. I'd probably give the slight edge to the sausage while my husband would go the other way because he really likes a creamy sauce. Both were a really good portion and had a lot of meat. The fresh pasta was perfectly cooked. Only thing missing for me was some bread because we had sauce leftover that I would loved to scoop up. Will definitely be going back. read more

We (a party of 4) decided to check out The Veranda for the first time recently. We made a reservation and this is a *must*, this is a very small dining room and every table was full during our visit (on a Saturday evening). We started with a round of cocktails that proved to be tasty and well-made. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and indulged our really chatty table's need for more time, over and over- whoops. We skipped an appetizer but the options on the menu looked delicious! The wine list was fairly modest but hit all the necessaries and we settled on a few bottles of chianti. Yep, a few bottles. It was one of those nights! As we awaited our entrees, we could see into the kitchen and there was a chef back there making pasta by hand- they are not lying about that! The mood in the restaurant was friendly, a bit low lit for ambiance but still bright enough to see your neighbors. I would call the vibe "neighborhood bistro" and it had this REALLY warming effect on a chilly, rainy evening. Tables were all full but no one was seated right on top of each other, there was plenty of room to stretch and converse privately. Because I am a masochist and am avoiding gods favorite food (pasta) I ordered the steak. It was served along side roasted potatoes and a rocket salad. The steak arrived at perfect temperature and was seasoned magnificently. I'll admit I am a salt girl- I did not not have add a speck of salt or pepper, it already tasted amazing. I certainly did not feel like I'd missed out by not getting the pasta, even if it did look incredible. My husband got a pasta dish with sausages, and he kept raving about how much sausage was in it and how delicious the sauce was. Our friends got a copy of my husbands dish and the salmon with lemon sauce pasta except my friend requested chicken be substituted and the chef indulged her request! They were equally enamored with how well their dishes turned out. All in all, this was an unexpected delicious find and we WILL be back again! read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. We so happen to be driving by and I saw 'homemade pasta' across their window and knew I wanted to eat there for dinner. We didn't have a reservation but I would highly suggest having one. Luckily, we were able to be sat right away, but there are a pretty limited number of tables here. The bruschetta appetizer was delicious and fresh. It comes with two pieces and is served on larger pieces of bread rather than smaller ones. I had the shrimp scampi for my entree and felt it was worth the price. The homemade pasta was delicious and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. The lamb ragú dish was also very delicious and cooked perfectly. To finish the night we had the cannolis for dessert, which comes with one regular and one pistachio. Service was amazing. The server and I lit up when I ordered Panna Cotta, just two girls gushing over dessert! Now to dinner.. The restaurant is cute, giving bistro and very clean. We shared a bottle of red, I had the lasagna and she had the seafood pasta, we thought the sauce was a bit sweet but so good nonetheless. Everything was plated beautifully and tasted fresh. While in the area, my daughter and I decided to grab some dinner at The Veranda Trattoria. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for quite a while, so I was very excited to finally dine in. Since we went on a Wednesday evening around 7pm, there was no wait at all and we were seated right away. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, it's filled with plants and greenery that make the space feel warm and inviting. Our server was super sweet and gave us plenty of time to look over the menu while bringing us some water. We started off with Lemon Drop Martinis, which were delicious, and decided to order the Chicken Parmigiana and the Lamb Ragu. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait long. Our food came out about 20 minutes after ordering. The Chicken Parmigiana was very good. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and the pasta was cooked just right. The Lamb Ragu was just as great. Even after I was full, I kept taking "just one more bite" because it was so tasty. The pasta is all homemade and you can definitely tell because it was absolutely delicious. Our first visit was amazing. The porcini mushroom soup was so full flavored. Not watery, not salty, not like a bique. It was just right. I had the blackened salmon, cooked perfectly. The rocket salad had the peppery arugula, pine nuts for crunch with tomatoes, freshly grated parmesan and the vinaigrette to balance. The roasted potatoes rounded out the dish. My husband ordered the pasta bolognese. OMG a mountain of freshly grated parmesan cheese topped the meaty mixed of beef, veal and pork with the tagliatelle. He was so happy that he devoured it. We finished our meal with the cannoli. It comes as one regular and on dipped in crush pistachios. Not too sweet, just creamy and crunchy and satisfying. This spot has a very nice ambiance, perfect for a date night! It's not the most family-friendly though (they only had one high chair that was already being used). We started with the burrata which was delicious, but odd that it didn't come with bread (the plate was the cheese, prosciutto and tomato - it needed bread!). Bread was $2 which is annoying, especially when it only came with 4 small pieces that were just plain room temperature Italian bread, nothing fancy. My entree was lasagna which was tasty too, clearly homemade although I preferred my husband's dish of the lamb ragu. It was less heavy and I like a good shredded meat. I also tried my daughter's dish of buttered noodles which were also homemade and quite tasty. They clearly homemake their pasta which I appreciate! So glad we found this place. Not only is it in a quiet, family friendly area, but their menu is financially friendly as well. Our pastas were not even $20! Which is great considering they're made from scratch by the owner himself. Our waitress was the wife of the owner, a friendly Ukrainian lady whose sweet kid daughter was helping set our table. She told us they had opened barely 2 months ago and the owner/her husband has worked at Bubba's and Coastal Grill, which makes sense why everything was delicious and amazing. Upon walking in, we were welcomed with tasteful decor and a spacious, bright atmosphere. Maybe the shining sun coming through the wide windows helped a bit, but we loved the way the place was designed and decorated. It was very clean, not a single dirty table, and the open kitchen concept was a nice touch for us while we were dining. Our appetizers were served in 10 minutes, and our main dishes followed not even 30 minutes later, an impressive feat as the owner was the only person working the kitchen and we were a party of 6. As you can imagine from all the bright colors of our dishes, nothing was short of amazing. I loved my carbonara and tried a bit of my bf's burrata sandwich, something I'd never had before even when we were in Italy last year. We made a conscious note to be back for a date later in the evening another day. Their menu is small, which means they clearly specialize in what they've curated- an immediate green flag. We of course had to try a dessert, and when the wife told us she's in charge of the desserts, we had to try her cheesecake. It was light, not overly sweet, and paired beautifully with a fruit compote, a pairing I've never had before. We all ended up fighting for the last bite! We called ahead to see how crowded they were (we were going to sit at the bar). When we arrived, they had a table saved for us!The place is small but tastefully decorated- like a country cottage. The pasta is homemade and amazing - even my no pasta eating husband loved it! However, there is no bread or salad served with the meal (we didn't ask for any). The service was great and attentive. The prices are right on track with other restaurants- dinner for 2 with alcohol was $125 - tip included. Oh this place was amazing! When I walk in here, I got the vibe of simple but homey. Our experience is great. First of, we started our meal with their appetizers. We choose the Burrata cheese, it was so refreshing. Then for our main course was Seafood pasta for my friend, the sauce and pasta was made from the scratch and just perfectly seasoned. The shrimp and scallops were fresh. Then for mine, it was Newyork Steak Tagliata- it's was overcooked a little bit but man it tasted so good! With all spices in it and the meat was still so tender!. Finally for our dessert, we got the Tiramisu! This is legit! I could tasted the bitterness of the coffee (which is like) with perfect sweetness and creaminess, it really blend well! I got panna cotta to go for a dessert. It's perfect. I love panna cotta and was not disappointed. Now let's talk service. Anastasia, our server, was amazing. Provided recommendations, which were spot on and perfect. She was so sweet and friendly and absolutely wonderful. I worked in service for six years and have high standards. She was perfect and the kind of server I would've loved to have in any restaurant I worked at. Owners if you're reading, give that girl a raise! The restaurant itself is beautiful. New Italian restaurant impresses me tonight with chicken liver pate it is above and beyond also was pleasure to see Ukrainian desert "nuts" made with boiled condensed milk if you haven't tried it yet - you should ! My partner and I had a lovely experience at The Veranda. We were surprised to see that the layout of the restaurant was quite small and that the tables were a bit close to each other, but we still somehow felt like the environment was very intimate and pretty with the white walls and the greenery (plants, etc.) In terms of service, it was a Friday night so it was a bit busy and we do wish we would have seen a bit more of our server, as she didn't come to check on us for a long time after our food came out. However, she was very kind and apologized for this. My partner and I sincerely enjoyed the Garlic Shrimp appetizer that came on a piece of bread for each of us. I ended up getting the Lamb Ragu which was very tasty; however, I did feel like my pasta was a bit too chewy for my liking. My partner ordered the Chicken Parm and liked the flavor and felt that the amount of cheese added seemed just right. We paired these with a bottle of rose that was very soft. We finished off with a pastry desert - some sort of vanilla cream with a fruity topping that we enjoyed (cannot remember the name of it - but it was enough for us both to share).
