I went here with a friend who knew someone who was performing. I was up to check the band and this place out only as entrance was free the night I went if you brought a can of food. I don't know if I would pay for cover, although the bands were decently good so if you like live music it might be worth it. Drinks were cheap and it's cash only so be prepared for that. I liked the vibe but the neighborhood isn't the greatest and parking is very limited, which is why I'm only giving this place 3 stars. read more

Saw Order of the Fly play since a friend of mine knew the band. They're a pretty good punk band! Nice guys too.. This punk bar is really intimate. If you sit by the bar, you're pretty much on stage with the band..lol It's all good though. They only serve beer..$5 a pop which isn't that bad, but sometimes you need that Jack&Coke. Never mind the place is so small, I've had closets bigger than the main room. One time I went there to see a bad, the bass player was practically wearing the bartender. And let's be honest -- the place is a shithole, but it's a shithole with great music. The Doll Hut was great. It's small but it really allows you to be up close and personal with the band performing. My friends and I saw FLAKE and they were great!!! We got to chat and hang out after the show with them and they were pretty cool guys. They only serve beer but once you have a few you get over it quick. I went to watch two bands whom are friends. The Slow Forward and RUACH so wherever I was, it would be good. This place is small. There is a bar that takes up 30% of the place and maybe seats 15. A tiny stage and a tiny viewing area. There are two pinball machines and an outside area for smoking and whatnot. There are stickers on every inch of this place. It was loud and cramped. And didn't smell lol. Also, parking is limited. I would go there if there again, but only if these guys played there again. Some would like the "coziness" of it. While others would be turned off. First experienced the Hut back in the 80's. Typical cocktail lounge that opened early morning and had its host of old regulars. Not for everyone, but I liked it. Fast forward to I think the later 90's and it was called Linda's Doll Hut. I crammed in with standing room only and heard James Harman and maybe an Alvin blow the place away. Music doesn't get more up close and personal! Great show. At this point I limit my Punk appreciation to what's left of Iggy Pop and vintage Sex Pistols via vinyl or CD. Keep on truckin' Hut ... The Doll Hut was the best live OC venue for local bands to play in the 90s! Probably the best band to come out of the OC at that time was Mind Driver. Heath was a really entertaining front-man, and I'll never forget their Scooby-Doo mystery mobile with the Mind Driver logo! We used to see it all over Costa Mesa and HB. Great times! Was in So Cal for the Star Wars Celebration and thought I'd check out some of the local Punk Bars.... I happened to find this on the list of "Go To"Joints... My Girl and I walked in around 7ish just to check the vibes... 0 people were in there. Except 1 Bartender. No biggie... We took a small look around, saw some rad old arcade games, cool small stage, and a decent sized back patio! Since we're were there, we sat up at the Bar to order some drinks... The Bartender stood there on her phone for literally 25mins...............................................NOT looking up once! It was so long that it felt awkward to even order. Completely ruined the whole first impression on the place! We finally got our drinks, sucked them down and bounced. I really wished I could've had a better experience due to the whole cool punk venue vibe, but customer service is key! Especially when it's only 2 people! Ive been to Punk and Metal Bars all over the Bay Area. Even though they can be run down, smell, have terrible bathrooms, and sometimes people. Customers are what will keep the business going. I'm sure one day I'll stop in and have a better time, and when I do, I'll change my review. As it stands, the experience sucked balls... 1 star for arcade games, 1 star for the all around Looks of the place. read more

Okay so I must admit I came here to see my cousins band the Katella's and they are always great. The location is small and they charge to get in. There is tons of street parking but it is right off of the freeway in an industrial part of the city so lighting is very dim so that might not be comforting for most people. I feel like the odd one out here, but I really don't get the appeal of this place. It's so, so tiny, and divey, but not good divey. If I'm at a good dive bar I at least want good, cheap dive bar drink prices! There are a handful of seats at the bar and then it's standing room only, but anywhere you attempt to stand you'll get run over by people going back and forth to the bathrooms. And of course there was the obligatory old drunk regular who was yelling annoying things out to the band...which I probably appreciate even less being a musician myself. Okay, so the decor was cool, I'll give it that, and this place has history. But I think I spent more time in the parking lot talking to my friend than I did in the bar...so I'd give the parking lot 4 stars. Just wasn't feeling the Doll Hut. read more

OG dive bar in Orange County. Some of the best bands have played at this tiny spot. I met Ron Jeremy there. Nuff said.

We have been going here off and on for many years since the Linda's Doll Hut days. Right now the band line up is shite. There are some improvements at this venue aside from the music. They gave it a little make-over slightly and the beer is cheap. You can get Nukie Brown. They have a few packets of crisps to munch on. The bar tender was doing a great job. We recently went there because we had to meet friends and there was no other place we could think of that night. The bands were lousy. One musician was rude. He was nasty to us but then he sat down beside me and decided to be cool and thanked me for showing up because we were the only ones who showed up. Being a prat was not a good idea after all I guess he thought. I told him, "I don't like anything made(music) after 1963" He said the tamale man will be here shortly. I guess that was supposed to give me something to look forward to. All I cared about was I was happy as long as I had my beer. read more

The Doll Hut is tiny. And it's awkwardly laid out. And their sound system is not great. But... It's still a decent venue to see or play a show because of the uniqueness and cool factor. It's truly a hut. Small rectangular building with the bar in center, leaving small path around periphery to stand, move, watch, etc. And a chunk of that is taken by a pool table. But like I said, it's cool. Large patio in back. Friendly staff. Seems to be geared toward punk music. If you are a small touring band, not a bad place to play. Though it is not on any sort of thoroughfare so not much traffic unless people are specifically coming there to see a show. read more

Ok I was going to the doll hut for a long time back in the day then got to know Blue and Anthony the owners at the time i started working the door. Good time nothing like working listening to good bands and having a couple beers. Then i started beertending there good times then i helped run the place while Blue and Anthony would take off to go out . I have seen alot of great bands in this place i have met alot of great friends i stopped going to this place after it was sold to the 2 new owners This guy Tim bought it from Blue and he put some TV's in to try to make it a sports bar but it didn't work out and some other person bought it so good times great oldies to this place. read more

Ok, So just moved here from Vancouver BC canada to be with my boyfriend who is a punk rock fan. He always goes to these shows big and small. His buddy plays in a band who was fricken awesome. I thought I would be able to get away from going to these shows, but it was his birthday on Nov 9 so we celebrated nov 8 going to the Doll Hut. Wow what a great show. There was 4 or 5 punk bands performing. Starting with my boyfriends buddies band which kicked ass and then the last band which was this crazy good japanese punk rock band. They were excellent! The whole night was great. Never met such a diverse, yet friendly crowd. The bathrooms are very tiny , the beer is alittle steap for that type of dive...but all in all it is a great little place. I must admit it is the first time going to a punk rock show and I would have not changed it for the world. I will be going to this place alot more with my boyfriend. THe only flaw was whats with the unused pool table in the back room? if nobdy uses it, they should move it outside so more ppl can enjoy the show closer to the stage. :) read more

Hole in the wall. Nothing fancy, but cool place to hang out and see what the heck is going on in the neighborhood. Really small place and old. Cash only. Place has been there forever. They got a few video games and a small bar. Pretty much anyone hangs out there and bands come to play on there tiny stage. Love the old neon sign outside. Rumor has it the building has been deemed a historic place. Love how both young and not so young can come together and hangout. read more

Upon the 1st time of visiting this venue, I read a bunch of reviews here, good & bad. I know experiences would always vary depending on event, atmosphere, time, & day. One of my friends from work was performing there for a benefit towards people with autism so I was going for my friend and for a good cause. The first time I arrived, I was thinking wow this place is tiny! People who worked there including the owner are all very nice. The place does only take cash, beer & wine are the only thing available there, and no liquor. I remember in the previous review somebody mentioned about dolls that were hung all over the place, but the whole place is decorated with tons of stickers and photos, so probably changed when it was reopened after a year of closure? The toilet didn't flush in one of the restrooms, but they had it fixed as soon as possible, they also do have a few old school arcade games in the back. The sound is definitely loud because I walked out deaf lol, but even though the place is aged and well kept, I respect it for its historical location. Once the music starts, I immediately started becoming comfortable like as if I am home. The place didn't become packed as it would certain nights, so I didn't have to worry about the lack of space or movement. I thought 91 people were attending the event, but it looked like only 15-25 people showed up which is cool. I wouldn't mind coming back here again for future shows. read more
