Wow! We came for their new Gatsby tea service and it did not disappoint. The ambiance is gorgeous and on point. We started with The Gatsby Effect drink which came in beautiful glasses and a tower that drips butterfly pea tea gin into your glass, changing the color of your drink. There's only one tower option with dinner. It comes with an entire 1 oz container of caviar with crumb fresh, chicken nuggets with crown fresh smoked trout caviar and chives, spicy ahi tuna wonton chip, mini lobster rolls, kettle chips, shrimp cocktail shooters, wagyu sliders, and chicken Caesar salad skewers. We came here for the tea experience. This review is only for the tea experience. Okay, so this place is very nice. They really do well with presentation. Service was just okay. Tea was really disappointing. Can you call it a tea experience when they use tea bags my loose leaf with a lack of a tea selection and have to share a tea pot with 3 people? This was a really big let down. It's not your traditional tea. Sandwiches were fine. I enjoyed a couple of them. The biscuit was good. They also didn't have scones and clotted cream. In my opinion not a true tea experience. Desserts were not good. The attempt made for the ube and pandan were more of a trend following technique rather than a true love in creating something delicious. It was a disappointment. The experience wasn't terrible it was just okay. Stick to a proper tea place is you are looking for a proper tea experience. If you want just cute pictures and just a great ambiance then you'll be fine coming here. I was between giving 2 and 3 stars for this place. I can't deny this was a cute place. $45 a setting... This is a late review for the tea experience. This was my second time here, this time my family and I came here for Mother's Day. While my kids ordered off the menu, my husband and I enjoyed the Mat Hatter Tea experience. My kids got the short rib pasta, the biscuits & gravy, and Italian Baked eggs, they enjoyed all of it! And of course I had to steal some of my son's baked eggs since I loved them so much from my last visit. The Mad Hatter's tea is not a traditional tea, but it was fun and different. It was reasonably priced and came with a glass of sparkling wine that you can enhance with a blue liquid (I believe it's a butterfly tea syrup) to change the color into a beautiful purple hue. The tea served is Tea Forte tea bags, rather than loose leaf teas. They do have the typical tea sandwiches, but there are also additional savory items like a cheese pinwheel and a cheese skewer. In addition to the scone and biscuit, they also had danishes and fruit. Wish they had cream for the scones, but they had jam and butter. Absolutely amazing place! From A to Z, everything was great. Staff was friendly, decor was SPOT ON and the food and drinks were good. Could not stop admiring the decor and the ambiance. My friend and I ordered several things from their dinner menu. We got the short rib cheese sandwhich and their chicken sandwhich. The bread used fornthe sandwhich was soooo goodie! Out of the 2, I'd say the chicken sandwhich was my fav. We also got the Chapter 91 cocktail and the scarlett sip. The Chapter 91 was the best out of the 2 we ordered. Upon entering my friend and I were immediately seated and I gotta say the interior does give me the modern day mad hatter vibe from Alice in Wonderland. It has this dark but classy aesthetic and I was not prepared for that (in a good way). This restaurant has been here for about 2 years with different ownership and menu so I was excited to see what they had to offer. Hugo helped us with our order and he was very friendly and professional. We went ahead and ordered the ahi tuna taco, pork belly bao, garlic fries, the margharita pizza, the yuzu lobster pasta, and for drinks I got the virgin burning thyme. My friend got that and other drinks as well. Ahi tuna taco - 5/5 probably the best food item for the evening. The tuna was fresh, perfect amount of kick in its sauce, and the outter shell was perfectly crunchy. I think them replacing the shell with wonton was exceptional with the texture. Every bite was extremely satisfying. Pork Belly bao - 4/5 everything was delicious. The bow itself is bouncy and moist. There wasn't anything special about the sauce inside with the pork belly, but I would definitely give it a try at least once. A great portion with your friends or family as an appetizer. Garlic fries - 3/5 It was a bit underwhelming, but nothing horrible. I could not taste the garlic at all, but the fries itself was cooked to perfection with the outer being pretty crispy and inside being soft. Margharita pizza - 4/5 I really like the crust and the breading of this pizza. It was crispy and the pepperoni was cooked to perfection. I really like the small pepperoni because it gives an immense amount of flavor in each bite. The cheese and the tomato sauce was fine, but nothing special. Yuzu lobster pasta - 4/5 I wish I was able to taste more of the Yuzu since that's in the name of the dish, but I could not. If it was just called the lobster pasta I would say it's amazing. The tomatoes were perfect to lighten the entire dish with the heavy sauce and the pasta. The lobster was cooked fine. Other than that it was fine, but I would say either enhance the Yuzu flavor or remove it in the name of the dish. Burning thyme - 4.5/5 I really like the acid and the balance of sweetness and sour in this drink. Usually, I get skeptical when I make an alcoholic drink version because the bartender tends to over sweeten the drink, but this was not the case, and I enjoyed it a lot with our food. read more

This is such a cute place with a whimsical vibe the minute you enter the door. They have very creative and random but fun decorations. It's a very spacious restaurant, great for large groups. There are plenty of parties celebrating birthdays, bridal showers, etc. This is my second time here and this time I was here with my daughter to try the Mad Hatter's Tea. Presentation was on par. Everything was cute and whimsy like the decorations. We each got our own teapot and they were so pretty. The tea sandwiches and scones were delicious but the Danish was underwhelming. The tea service includes tea, a sparkling drink either wine or cider, and an assortment of tea sandwiches and pastry items. A creative cocktail experience captures a unique concept of the mad hatter. I truly enjoyed this experience of purple accents and the subtle nodes of decor that hints at the concept. I have visited this location twice and sat in the dining room along with the bar top. After all it is a cocktail bar. The bar offers Alcohol based beverages that the each of the bartenders crafted. They also have beautiful mocktails that can be cherished. The seats at the bar are velvety and soft and i could sit there for hours they aren't those typical bars chairs that are a relief when you stand. Okay but wait the brunch options that are delicious for a friend's Sunday. I had a medium well steak, eggs, with chimchurri sauce, white toast, and hash browns. The fruity pebble French toast with a side of bacon, along with the chicken and waffles. Let me tell you!! The food was delicious the wait. Booked the semi-private room for my daughter's 21st birthday brunch, today, 6/14/26. The room sat 10 comfortably toward the back of the restaurant. We reserved our brunch for 11:30 am so the "after 11 am" lunch menu is available, too, with the weekend brunch menu. The restaurant's atmosphere is incredible. The birthday girl really enjoyed her Ube waffle (with a side of bacon) and the mimosa flight. Our guests had chicken and waffle, the sandwiches, flatbreads, and salads - all fantastic. My daughter was given a bowl of ice cream as a birthday treat. We brought our own birthday cake, and we were i formed that there is a $20 outside cake fee. This fee was not mentioned when I inquired about bringing a cake the week before. It's fine as it came out cheaper than ordering individual desserts. Girls Night at Story and let me tell you... the plot was plotting. Decor and ambiance: 5/5. This place is basically an Instagram photoshoot disguised as a restaurant. Every corner felt like a different scene and I was fully in my main character era the entire night. Plating: 5/5. The dishes come out looking like they deserve their own chapter. Naturally, the table had to pause because as we all know... The Camera Eats First! Taste: A solid 4/5. The flavors didn't quite steal the whole show, but they definitely delivered a strong supporting actor performance. Also ordered the drink "To Chill a Mockingbird" purely because the pun deserved a standing ovation... I don't even know what it tasted like but come on... the name. Vibes: 5/5. The whole night felt like a perfectly written scene. Time with my girlies: 10/5. Best cast ever. No notes. Overall: 5/5. March 29th, I went in for lunch around 2 PM. It was very busy, and we sat at a booth in the bar area. I chose this place to celebrate my birthday with a friend who was unable to celebrate with me earlier in the month (I also celebrated here last year), but unfortunately, the service was disappointing. While I understand it was extremely busy and can give some grace for that, there was a noticeable decline in attentiveness. I had to request menus; the bartender asked me to wait a moment, which was understandable since he was making drinks. A waiter later brought food menus and water, but no drink menus. The bartender eventually asked if I was ready to order a drink, but I still hadn't received a drink menu. At that point, I asked about gluten-free options since my friend has a serious sensitivity to gluten. He said he would check. A bearded waiter stopped by briefly and, clearly rushed, mentioned that the chile relleno would be safe and that any salad without gluten-containing items would work. He quickly added that he had to go, and the entire interaction lasted less than a minute. My friend has diagnosed non-celiac gluten sensitivity and becomes very ill if exposed. Given that, I would have expected more care and time taken to explain what was truly safe and what should be avoided, even during a busy service. I didn't ask about gluten-free options casually--this was a legitimate medical concern. Later, another waiter stopped by, and I requested a drink menu from him. When I ordered, my drink (the Strawberry Sip ) sat at the bar for quite a while. My friend even joked about whether they should just grab it themselves before it finally arrived about five minutes later. Again, I understand things were busy, but if it's that hectic, the bar likely needs additional support. It was also disappointing to overhear a server openly complaining about another guest who had ordered a classic breakfast but forgot to mention they needed gluten-free bread. That kind of conversation feels unprofessional--guests can hear more than staff may realize. I only removed one star because, as always, my food was great, and I really do love the atmosphere at Story. My drink was a bit melted by the time it arrived, but it still tasted fine. Story is a comtemporary American restaurant in the Anaheim Hills area. It's located in a plaza with ample parking and has a lively but intimate ambiance. We made reservations online ahead of time and were seated immediately after we arrived. MISO BUTTER NOODLES ($14) - this was creamy, buttery, and garlicky. There was a bit of a kick from the pepper flakes. We really liked this dish and my only complaint is that there was no option to add protein. 4/5 SHORT RIB LOADED FRIES ($19) - I liked that there were big portions of meat. The fries were crispy but I thought could've used more refreshing toppings like pico and avocado salsa. 4.5/5 YUZU LOBSTER PASTA ($38) - there were good portions of lobster and while I could taste a lot of parmesan I couldn't taste the yuzu. Between the noodle dishes I preferred the miso butter noodles and it helps that it was also cheaper. 3/5 MISO GLAZED CHILEAN SEA BASS ($60) - there was a decent miso flavor but it was an extremely small piece of fish. It was okay and not worth the price we paid. 2/5 For cocktails the fireside reading ($17) was cinnamon-y and I liked the extra aroma of the cinnamon stick on fire. The scarlet sip ($17) was fruity and light. Interestingly we liked the shareables more than the mains. Went on a Friday afternoon to have tea here with my friend. I've been to a dozen tea places but I wasn't sure what to expect of this one. For $40 I want to say it's pretty decent. I did enjoy that the tea set was more on the savory side of things and less dessert-y. I was hungry so it was nice that it felt more like a meal. You get a heavy pot with tea bags after you choose your tea. The sets were heavy and of nice quality. I love that the scone is actually a scone. And it was awesome. The service was the barest of minimum though. He didn't say hi, didn't welcome us, didn't introduce himself. Just started placing things down and didn't explain anything. The questions were "green or black?" for the tea. If we could drink or not (for the champagne or apple cider). And then he continued to set more things down when he came back. When the tea set came, he just set it down and left. No explanation, no recommendations on how to eat things, what the type of butter things were, nada. It was just so strange. He wasn't super rude exactly, but wasn't friendly either. Very curt. He didn't explain anything about the "Drink Me" potion and it didn't have a cork so it was hard to shake it to make it shimmer. Maybe he was having a bad day but it felt like he didn't care to be there. The decor of the place is otherwise very nice with its whimsical manner. It's actually a bit dark inside though, but it somehow fits the mood. Other than the tea cup decor at the front, the "Drink Me" potion, and the black and white placemat, the rest of the decor didn't really scream Mad Hatter tea party. Went to Story with friends and was blown away by the effort put into the decor - a really beautiful restaurant with rich dark wood and big detailed chandeliers. The decor lends itself to a high class dining experience and it's a nice place with good food but much more of a casual feel with American bistro like food. Patrons range from dressy to super casual creating a mixed vibe where you can come as you are. Service was friendly and fun, maybe a bit slow but the place was packed. Every table was full with many parties waiting so it's understandable. Would recommend reservations if you're coming on the weekends. The food was above average - we got the ahi tuna taco appetizer, the miso noodles and short rib loaded fries and all were tasty. We also got the pickled pepper pizza and it was good but a bit heavy on the peppers and light on the hot honey. My friends had been wanting to check this place out, so the six of us finally went not too long ago. The concept is adorable -- clearly inspired by Alice in Wonderland -- and when you first walk in, it really feels like you've stepped into that whimsical world. The tea selection wasn't as extensive as we'd hoped, but there were enough options for us to enjoy the experience. The food, however, was a bit confusing. Two of us requested no goat cheese wrap, and the kitchen substituted it with grapes. Since it's $40 per person, swapping a wrap for grapes didn't feel equivalent, so we had to double-check with them. Also, with six people and four types of sandwiches per person, we should've received 24 sandwiches total, but only 16 were brought out. We ended up showing our server photos to explain that the count was short. They were likely very busy and possibly understaffed, so I'd recommend keeping an eye on what's brought to the table. The manager was kind and quickly brought out the missing sandwiches once we pointed it out. Highly recommend making a reservation because holiday weekends like Mother's Day is busy. The decor and ambience for Story is chef's kiss. You are transported to a different place upon entering the property. I think it's a different vibe at night, and would love to experience it to see how the lights will transform the place. The mini pastries and sandwiches were delicious, and the staff made sure we never ran out of hot water. Our experience included a glass of champagne, but it was initially forgotten. We reminded our waiter toward the end, but didn't get to fully enjoy it since we were rushing to leave. Parking was easy, although it was a bit busy on a Friday afternoon (Black Friday, Thanksgiving weekend) and I ended up parking farther out in the lot. Came to Story for the first time today with some girlfriends for their Friendsgiving tea. I was a bit confused at first because we had 6 people and only 1 pot of tea...and only 2 pastry displays. For some reason I thought we'd each get our own. The tea itself was a little disappointing as it was just Mighty Leaf bagged tea. They also didn't have any plain black tea or green tea, all of them were flavored - vanilla, mint, orange, etc. What I did really enjoy is that everything was cute. From the minute we walked in, the restaurant was decked out for the holidays. The restaurant has a very cool theme, think story time, meets elevated gothic vibes. Our server was sadly not the best. We felt that he was condescending at times when we'd ask him questions. We tried to be understanding, but were surprised that no one explained what types of sandwiches we had (or asked about allergies). Our server also never asked if we wanted to order food outside of the tea (which we did), but it was terribly hard to track him down, so we got over it eventually. I hope to come here again soon and try the food outside of the tea. It was cutesy and fun, but I'd rate it 6/10 compared to other tea services I've had - however, the decor elevated things a bit. The place has a dark and trendy décor that almost make it feel like a night club rather than a restaurant. The place is totally cool for happy hours as well as dinner in a stylish and fashionable atmosphere. So, the first time I went there for lunch I was sort of skeptical whether the food would be any good. To my surprise everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. Those who know me know that I am both passionate and picky about my burgers. But the classic smash here was so good! The double patties were smashed not too thin, so when chargrilled the outside became slightly crusted while the meat still retained it juiciness and flavor. The ahi tuna taco is another one of my favorites. On taco Tuesdays, you get to try all three different versions - ahi tuna, beef short rib, and mushroom - on the same plate. It is not advertised though, so you need to ask for taco Tuesday. We went back for dinner next time and I absolutely enjoyed my lobster pasta with yuzu infused sauce, cherry tomatoes, and jalapenos. There were plenty of poached lobster meat, so the value was good. The taste was delicious and carried a strong yuzu flavor with hints of white wine and spices. It was delicately made, and the plate exuded a sense of sophistication. Braised beef short rib is the house specialty and rightfully so. The meat was so flavorful and tender that I would rank it as among the best that I've had. As you can tell from the picture, the portion is large and again, good value here. A group of 12 dined in the Story room for a holiday get together. Restaurant was clean inside and out. I can't recall the waiters name but he did an excellent job with our group. There were many options to choose from. Loved the mimosa flight. Ube Waffle with bacon was yummy. Also the Short Rib Loaded Fries were worth ordering again. This is a cute place and we did the Friendsgiving Tea. We didn't expect much as it was $35 per person. We were seated on time for our reservation and service was good. The cons were the tea, was tea bags and there weren't many options for decaf. Well, there weren't many options overall. We were 5, and we got one tiered tray for 2 and one for 3. The one for three were missing items. The egg bite and quiche only had one and we asked for two more and only got the egg bite not the quiche. Also there were a lot of desserts. Two tiers. The desserts were not matching either and there were 4 on ours and 5 on the tray for three. There was one teapot on the table with hot water that didn't stay hot too long. Overall, I think it was decent for the price. With tip and tax we paid $45 each. It was crowded when we arrived and parking was a bit difficult but when we left an hour later at 2:30 the parking lot was wide open. Really nice fix for an afternoon tea!!! Service was incredible. We never ran out of hot water. Atmosphere was very nice too. Many large parties with fancy hats. So fun to watch them walk by. The food was really good. Assorted sandwiches..egg, chicken salad, and cucumber. The pastries were warm and crispy and not overly sweet. Best part was drinking out of a proper tea cup. Story Anaheim is located in a plaza with plenty of parking, which is convenient, though it's a bit of a drive to get to. The decor and colors are nice, but lean a little on the seductive side. I had a hard time deciding what to order and changed my mind several times before settling on the petite salad and the goat cheese and mushroom pizza. Unfortunately, both were overloaded with arugula. That one's on me for not paying closer attention to the menu, but it did overpower the other flavors. The price point was reasonable, and our server was kind enough to split our bill into eight separate checks, which we really appreciated. By the way, they do take Apple Pay as payment. read more

Do not sleep on this experience. Story in Anaheim is a hidden gem. We came here celebrating my birthday with high tea and it was just beautiful. Very savory with sandwiches, biscuits, pastries, egg bites, and one of my highlights the blueberry scone. Absolutely delicious. Everyone from the host, Waiter and manager was 1 polite and engaging( do not trust the negative reviews, these gentlemen were wonderful). Met up with some friends here. I was told it was a great place with amazing cocktails. The esthetics are beautiful. So rich and luxurious with beautiful velvet colors and art. I did not have a cocktail but saw several around be and they were so pretty and looked amazing. Service was great, our server Adrian was awesome. All our entrees were delicious. Sooo good!!! We were celebrating my birthday and they brought me a big yummy chocolate ice cream sundae. I will definitely be back to try some of those attractive cocktails. read more

My girlfriends and I went to the Mad Hatter's Tea at Story in Anaheim Hills. Story is owned by the folks who opened Benny & Mary's in Irvine and the decor is similar too. There is another Story in Whittier as well. Story just started this tea with limited dates but due to popularity, started offering it daily. We made a reservation through their website via OpenTable for a Sunday afternoon. We should have tried for a later time since we arrived during a busy brunch time for them at our reservation time and had to wait an additional 20 minutes to be seated. What is the point of reservations, if they cannot accommodate? Once seated, we were handed the menus without much explanation. Our server double-checked that we were there for the tea and also gave us the regular menu in case we wanted to add to our order. The tea menu is a prix fixe that included: mozzarella and melon skewers, feta & goat cheese pinwheels, blueberry scones, biscuits, grapes, bacon & egg bites, chicken salad sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches, ham & Dijon sandwiches, and cucumber sandwiches. The teas were from Tea Forte and we only received one teabag of each along with a teapot of hot water. It would have been better had they given each person a pot of water but I understand for use of space or whatever, it was done this way. We were never given teaspoons despite the server coming to check in on us occasionally. We were never rushed to finish our tea so we spent almost 3 hours eating and gabbing. We ended up reusing our tea bags but it would have been nice to have a big pot of water to put the tea in to share. For $40, it was a fun way to get together with my girlfriends. They could improve it but it was a little lackluster in terms of afternoon tea service. read more

Delicious food experience and beautiful decor. My bestie made reservations after seeing this restaurant on TikTok. The Tea event was already booked, so we opted for brunch. Decor is similar to a gothic boudoir and I loved all of it! Velvet textures, dark color scheme, chandeliers and large portraits of birds and animals. We ordered Mimosas and various cocktails throughout our meal. Selected a variety of delicious appetizers (Goat Cheese with Toasted Bread, Short Rib Tacos, Chicken and Pistachio Pesto Flatbread/Pizza, and the Fried Pancakes). Everything was delicious. Bottom Line Up Front: Story Bar & Kitchen serves up delicious food in a place in a fun, fantasy-like setting -- just be prepared to pay premium prices. The Setting: As the name implies, this establishment aims to give you a dining experience that whisks you to another land, someplace you might find in a fable or Disney movie. Think "Alice in Wonderland" meets "Beauty and the Beast." The booths are large, comfy, and decorated with a book motif. There's unique artwork and dim lighting. Heck, even the bathroom has faux alligator skin wallpaper. The cool aesthetics make for a fun outing. The Food: I've only been here once, so I can't speak for the entire menu, but what I did have was delicious. We went during Happy Hour (more on this later) and ordered miso butter noodles, braised short rib tacos, and parmesan garlic fries. The miso butter noodles were actually more spicy than expected (normally red pepper flakes are pretty mild) but the texture, flavors, and smells were spot on. The tacos were excellent -- picture an authentic Mexican street taco, but elevated on every level. The fries were solid, but not the best I've ever had. The garlic and seasoning were plentiful and tasty, but the texture of the fries themselves were just average. The Service: Everyone there was super friendly, polite, accommodating, and knowledgeable. Can't say enough good things about the staff. The Pricing: Here lies the rub -- if you want delicious food, service, and atmosphere, you're gonnna have to pay for it. And at Story you'll pay a pretty penny. I would consider this a premium sitdown restaurant and would go here on special occasions or, as I did recently, during Happy Hour when a shortened menu provides good discounts. The Conclusion: My true rating for Story is 4.5 out of 5 -- I subtracted a half-point for the steep prices and the fries, which were satisfactory but not the perfect. However, since I can't give a half-star rating here, I'll round up to 5 out of 5 because I like Story so much I'm willing to overlook the minor flaws. read more
