I purchased insurance for the rental during my booking process online. I was told during pickup that they didn't recognize 3rd party insurance and I had to get their coverage. Why have the option to pay for 3rd party insurance if it's not going to be accepted OR inform the renter during the booking process. Not a good experience at all. read more

Make sure to check that your remote to the car actually works. We had multiple issues even after replacing the battery in the remote.

I used them recently to rent a car and I have use this before also and each time they have been outstanding and have the best prices.

When I arrived to rent my car there were quite a few people in line. It took an hour of waiting to actually get my car. Upon drop off, I found that there was no overnight drop off. They open at 5am and not one minute before. Watch your times for the airport, even though it is close by, it takes 20 minutes to get to the airport. It's a squeeze for early flights. The price was ok but as we got out of the airport there was no sign where to get the dollar shuttle - later found out we were supposed to call?? I've never had that before. The staff at the counter was not friendly and told me that the "dollar express" membership no longer has free driver? I only got that benefit because I had AAA. I don't think that's true because I went online since and I don't see that anywhere. Also the agent charged us a road side assistance fee that I didn't see till I got home. He knew we had aaa so that was not right to do since we don't need it and he knew that.I had to spend time on line and phone to get that resolved. Car windows/ mirrors were very streaky. read more

Warning - if you're flying into the airport, use almost anyone else. We waited 20minutes for a shuttle, then took a 5-10 minute ride to the rental location, then a single employee took another 45 minutes to get through 2-3 customers before us. Several cut in front of us with their blue-chip on top of that. I'd we'd picked any other car rental company (actually at the airport), we'd been on the road at an hour and a half quicker. Just a bummer. Wish we'd known. ------ EDIT - (dropped another star) - we stood around for another 15 minutes, finally got a car. It was clear that someone had puked in the backseat and even blew chunks up to the front seat... seriously. 15 or so minutes later after trying to clean the car up with paper towels and windex, we were finally in different vehicle and rolling. 1 hour and 45 minutes later (after walking out of the airport - we finally have a clean car. Oh, and they don't take debit cards like the whole website proudly declares... the guy at the counter talked us out of it, saying it was a lot of hassle and would take much longer. I have to remember never to rent from Dollar in Greenville. I gave it a three star because the first time I rented from this place they have me an upgrade to a brand new Ford F-150, which was great. The next two times I was there here are some of the issues: * Woman in front of me was complaining of the car smelling like smoke. So they gave her a different car and would not upgrade. So they said to me that they had go clean that car for me so I could take it. It did smell horrible of smoke and they didn't upgrade me either (even though I am part of the rewards program and rent from Dollar several times a month - I have recently switched brands) * They are not on airport property, which can be good or bad depending on your needs * Seems like they never have employees to help at this location or you are always waiting on something. I rented a car from the Greenville, SC location (by the airport). Although I had to take a shuttle to pick up the vehicle, it was quick and the service when picking up and returning was excellent. The car was clean and ready to go when I arrived, and the daily rate was very reasonable. I would rent from this location any time! read more

we drove to pick up our van we had reserved at 6am. It wasn't there. He told us that he would call us when he had one. We had to pick it up 3hrs later. It was dirty and damaged. (we have pictures) But because we were so late we didn't have time to get them to clean it, even if we wanted to. He told us that we would be charged a fee of the van was late returned or if it wasn't filled with gas when it was returned. We then headed up north to PA with our 4 kids. We didn't let our kids eat in the car, and was mindful of keeping it clean. we return the vehicle 2 hour prior to the return time and asked if there was anything else and the man at the desk said no. t Two days later we are going over our bills and see a charge for an additional $250 but no description as to why. I called and asked why in the world I was charged this amount. I was told that it was a cleaning fee because there was dog hair found in the car! I told him we didn't have our dogs with us and the only way there would be dog hair would be from my daughter hugging her dog goodbye. I asked for pictures. He was EXTREMELY RUDE! After almost an hour i still had not recieved them, so i called back and asked if he had sent them. I was told he would send them when he'd "get to it". I told him I understood, I just wanted to make sure I got it and it was getting late ( 9:45pm) I recieved the pitcures about an hour later. There was a few strands of white dog hair on the black carpet and typical dirt from stepping in and out of the vehicle. And there was a small wade of my daughter's hair because she had to brush her hair on the way to the wedding. I looked up the cleaning policy off of the Dollar Rental Car website. Where it states that if there is excessive pet hair, pet urine, or damage there would be could be a fee of $50-$250. After looking up the policy and and pictures I attempted to call them back (around 11:10pm) and the person would not answer the phone. I then called with my husband's phone and they answer on the first ring. The agent was irritated after stating my name and told me I signed a contract. I told him that I pulled up the policies on the website and the description does not match the pictures he sent me. He told me, he is his own franchise and that he has his own policy's and that he charges everyone that amount if there is any dog hair "detected". I reminded him that I didn't have my dogs with me on this trip. and we recieved the car dirty, damaged, and three hours late. He told me that we signed a contracted. And when we said that we would have to call corporate with the evidence we have and what he provided us, we were told to "go ahead, good luck with that" and hung up. because it was the weekend we are going to try and contact corporate today to receive our money back. read more

Lack of empathy.... A friend had a car accident... we was trying to situate the situation with the insurance company. Granted I know it's a lesser rental car place (I rent from Enterprise personally) so the rules are different but I'm a firm believer in empathy not sympathy. This rental location was exceptional. In and out service and the employees were delightful and knowledgeable to deal with.

Placed a reservation for a suv days in advance. The day I went to pick up same day as my trip was different than described..a truck with no cover for trailer to put my luggage securely. Office had one staff member running airport shuttle, answering phones and processing returns and pick ups. The member was professional but obviously overwhelmed working 2-3 job. Was unable to get a different unit being it was a Friday so had to scramble last minute to get another car from the airport instead. I used Dollar one other time before this when my car was being repaired due to being in a wreck. I was given a huge truck then too but fortunately was able to switch to a car instead. I'm short and the truck did not even have a step up rail. I don't think I will be returning. read more

I chose Dollar on this trip as it was a quick one and I didn't need anything in particular to get me from point A to point B. I did not pay attention to my reservation which stated they were located offsite. My reservation did not note that I needed to call for a shuttle. I did call and they said they were on their way. The attitude was not what I was use to but, I give grace as I do not know what the person may be going through. Shuttle came and the attitude was still not where one should be when dealing with the customer. Once getting to the lot I then realize that he was the only one working. He was the shuttle driver, phone answerer, check in person. Luckily at the time it was just 2 of us. On my return, I did not see signs directing me or any staff to greet. Inside there was quite the full house and once again, only one person working. This gentlemen had a better attitude but, he was very overwhelmed. Rightfully so when you are the only one working. I am not sure if it is just that they couldn't get anyone to work. There did not appear to be any support. It is truly sad that this is how our businesses are being run. I do not hold the employees responsible. It is either something internally or.... I have rented from Dollar before and I will not allow this time to hinder that decision. But, if there is another not so good experience, I may not rent in the future. read more

DON'T DO IT!!! we landed at GSP and got our luggage and at 8:50 because we had rented a car from dollar rental was told we need to call this number I called at least eight times. They were supposed to come pick us up and take us to the rental car. They left us stranded with our luggage at the airport at night. I had to go from desk to desk asking to rent a car at enterprise and other places that are located at the airport. I called this company the next morning and ask them what went wrong and they said all the guy had an emergency and left early. I guess they didn't care for all the people that were stranded at the airport there was no message on the answering machine and no way to get in touch with anybody at dollar rental the night before don't ever rent a car from dollar rental if you're landing at GSP And the guy was snotty when I called the next day if I could get this zero stars I would read more

We reserved the car online. I went to drop my spouse off to get the car and got a call when I was on my way home that she couldn't rent it because their reader couldn't read her drivers license as the back was scratched up. I had to go back and do the rental myself which was an inconvenience. However I have rented many times from them and never had any other issues other than this time. The workers are nice and the cars are not bad either. I will rent from them in the future as this is one of the easiest rental agencies to deal with. read more

Don't pick the wildcard if you are renting to drive a long distance. They had a beautiful Jeep Wrangler 4x4 waiting for me. Unfortunately, that was not a good car for an 8 1/2 drive between the bad gas mileage and being too stiff of a ride. There were no other cars able and I ended up having to rent somewhere else and paid dearly for a last-minute rental. It cost me $95 dollars to drive it home and back, plus even though I had a friend drop me off, I was charged a $25 airport fee. Watch out for unnecessary charges. read more

I was originally needing a car for 9 days. I requested and got a Jeep that I was pleased with. Unfortunately, 5 days into my rental my car had a mechanical issue. Beware of "roadside assistance"! They were less than helpful and I had to actually make a complaint about one "roadside assistance" agent. The rental location on the other hand, was very helpful and had a replacement Jeep ready for me the next day. I had to take a Lyft to the location to pick up the replacement, and was reimbursed the fee that I paid Lyft. by the location. This is my second time renting from Dollar (Greer), and I was pleased with their service, and the vehicles provided. I will use them again, and recommend them. read more

Our plane was delayed coming in to GSP. Dollar/Budget is off site and they close at midnight. But, with a quick call to them as we landed, they were courteous and remained open and helped 3 of us get our cars even though it was 12:40am. On way back, they open at 5am and they were there on time and had me to the airport by 5:15am. Very efficient, very helpful customer service. read more

Avoid. I was charged Find extra day because I returned my vehicle early expecting a drop box. They're saying I never returned it on time and yet the car was there. Best car rental prices, read cheapest, of all with AAA discount at GSP airport. However, their location is outside the airport unlike the others and about 5 minutes via their courtesy van which you have to call the office for a pickup. Their courtesy phone is at the baggage carousel area but not obviously marked, so I asked the help desk who gave me the phone number. Once at the rental office, the agent was very helpful and efficient. But be aware that there might be just one person working and the customer line can back up quickly. read more

You get what you pay for. After hours service is slow but very nice so it evened out. For a cheap rental this gets the job done, vehicle choice is lacking. The vehicle I had I did not feel safe driving, but that should be a review of the vehicle not the company. My first time renting from Dollar in Greenville. I had thought the company was located at the GSP Airport, but it was about one mile away. I could not find any information on how to get a shuttle. The lady at the Hertz counter called several different numbers and got a live person. I waited maybe twenty minutes for a shuttle. I too had a ding on my rental bumper, and the guy wrote some notes on a diagram and kept it. On returning, that was the stressful part. I arrived and the sign on the door said their office was closed from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., and this was at 10:00 a.m. No one was on the property, except for a lady waiting for someone in her vehicle. She told me I had to go to Hertz if someone was not there. It would have been nice if they had explained that to me at the time of rental, where to return if no one was there. The office was staffed by only one person. The only positive was they rented me a red Dodge Challenger, which was fun, and the only car available other than a mini van. The car had two doors, was listed as a mid-size car, but if I had to take my parents anywhere in the car (which I did not) there would have been some issues. Overall, because I liked the car, I give it 4 stars. read more
