Mac's One Stop is a full breakfast and lunch diner located inside of the Chevron gas station near…read moreUAB hospital. They serve breakfast like various breakfast biscuits, grab and go options and cook to order breakfast. For lunch, they offer grilled burgers, hot dogs and chicken tenders cooked to order. Sides include French fries and onion rings with deli food like chicken salad is available. On every Wednesday, the chef offers a Southern cuisine menu that changes week by week. They serve the special from 11-2 or until they sell out. They provide the option to call in, stop by to prepay, or walk-in based on what's available after pre-orders. Today's soul food menu consisted of baked chicken over rice, collard greens, macaroni and cheese and cornbread for $14.99. The portions size was huge, enough to eat twice from the plate. The food was served in Styrofoam plates with dividers with individual wrapped utensils and salt & pepper packets. Condiments were available as well. Drink was not included, but since the location is inside a gas station, there was many options to choose from. The baked chicken was a chicken breast that was bigger than the size of my hand. The chicken was so moist and tender, which made it easier to chew. Gravy was poured on top of the seasoned, fluffy yellow rice and went perfect for the entire dish. The greens are full of flavor and pair so well with the semi-sweet cornbread square. The macaroni and cheese was not as moist and cheesy as I would like but I eat it and enjoyed. Overall, the place receives a 5/5 for me. I'll be back to try a grilled lunch item next! -DASC

What I have come to find is that if you want something there, you have to go ahead and grab it. The next time you go back, it may not be there. I have been several trips and I found some juice that I really liked. The next time I went back, I got another one. I should have grabbed tons of it, because it was eventually gone and has not returned. So I would definitely suggest you buy some items in bulk. The type of juice that I purchased is normally $5.00 higher at other stores. So I should have gotten more. I have noticed that this is the trend with many of their products. I have been able to find great deals there on Kcups for my coffeemaker. It is priced much cheaper and they always have a different variety. I am also in love with their rug selection. We purchased rugs there for our home and have been absolutely pleased. They also sell food, clothes, and other home items. I would encourage anyone to visit. The customer service is also top notch at this location with all of their employees lending a helping hand. They take precautions seriously too and have markers to maintain social distancing. Plus, they have Ollie's Army where you can join for free to get rewards. I save my coupons for Customer Appreciation and am able to save a lot. I really enjoy visiting and I'm glad that they finally got a location close by home.

If you are native to Ensley, then you are already aware of this establishment. Since I once lived…read morein the same block as this restaurant as a child and was educated directly across the street at the former Councill Elementary School, I have been well-aware of this best-kept secret for years. Some people misjudge the service of this business based on its appearance. But PLEASE do not let this fool you! You will NOT find a better place to purchase your breakfast, lunch, and dinner anywhere! Let me whisper to you why, "The servers are generally very sweet ladies, the food is absolutely down-home and well-seasoned. BUT, the bell-ringer is their PORTIONS!!! Just wait and see!" Whereas other local down-home-cooked-meal restaurants may have good food, their portions have much to be desired. NOT SO WITH 'STOP and SHOP'!!! The portions will blow your mind--almost literally! I have introduced a few of my friends to this place, as they were not familiar with that neck of the woods where I grew up. As I sat waiting for my cooked-to-order fish to be fried, I took an unusual seat in a corner and waited for my friends to move up in the line to make their order. Upon seeing other customers being served, they would look back at me with bucked eyes in disbelief. I just smirked, with my eyes saying, "I told you so!" Trust and believe; Stop and Shop will become a regular place for you to order home-cooked food. But let me also lean-in to tell you what you will need to know: 1. They are open Wednesdays thru Sundays. 2. Because they are a family-owned business, they have personal holidays, which they close up shop for, but they make note of it in advance on the outside of their business for customers' attention. 3. This is not a dine-in facility. You place your order, pay for your order, and enjoy your meal in the comfort of your home. 4. Please be kind and leave a tip to whoever served you. They have individual hand-made tip boxes which can be identified if you just ask. 5. They close at 5:00. I'm giddy about your visit there. Just tell them a deaf lady recommended you. I get "nothing" for it, unless you consider a big smile from them when I go there to be something.

But you do need to be prepared to wait. We went for lunch on a Sunday and stood in line for about 45 mins. We knew we would have to wait so it really didn't bother us. They have cold waters waiting on you. We got the oxtail plate over rice with Mac & cheese and candied yams. The oxtails were pretty salty but the rice helped a little bit. The Mac and cheese is alright but not bad and the candied yams were very sweet and more on the firm side. We also got the turkey wings over dressing which was okay. Each plate comes with a big piece of cornbread. For the price, the portions, and if you're in the area, it's definitely worth a try if you have time to wait.
