The sign was not lit and there were no lights in front. Inside is a big space with long tables where items are on. I was not sure if it's just because it was already evening that many had gone through the items earlier in the day but it was very disorganized. Boxes and many other things were in disarray, making it difficult to search for items. At some point, we even found it hard to identify the items we were looking at. Some parts of a set were misplaced or missing.

This location is normally clean and nicely organized. Going here during Covid it still holds to that. There was a line to get to the register when I first walked in but everyone had mask on and were social distancing. One thing I did notice is there really weren't any employees on the floor to assist of help was needed. Maybe they were hiding between aisle because I sure didn't see anyone but the cashier. The cashier was a pleasant gentleman that seem happy to be at work. I thought it was very cool they had a trophy at the counter. When I first went to take a photo the cashier thought I was making fun of the location but I told him I was really impressed because I have honestly never seen one in any other dollar general (possibly not paying attention or they don't offer it everywhere...who knows). Once I stated how I was impress he seem to be smiling under his mask and was speaking about it! That makes me happy to see a proud employee of their job! Great job Dollar General!

And anytime that I see a Dollar Tree, I have the urge to stop and see what they might have to offer. I saw this on my way out and knew that I would be stopping on my way back. It sits in a plaza and kind of looks out of place. When you go to Google Maps and pull it up, depending on where you are on street view, you can see that this used to be a seafood house. DT kind of moved in, cannibalized the space, and turned it into a fluorescent monotoned store. With this being so far out of DC and Baltimore, I do have to say that there was a lot of variety and the shelves were well stocked. I was able to grab a few items that I didn't really need, but figured I should pick it up or I might not find it later. Overall, not a bad store or stop. But obviously not a place I am going to go out of my way to revisit.

That said, the key to stores like this are selection, visibility, and price, and this place is only okay in all three regards. Came here at the recommendation of another Yelper who also enjoys deals. The fact that I came straight here after a visit to somewhat-close-by Discount Depot provides a good point of comparison: while this place has a fair number of bins, you can search through everything thoroughly in about 20 minutes due to its size. While prices are fairly standard for this kind of store, they certainly did not have much on the $10 day (Fri/Sat) that merited spending $10 on. Indeed, most of the boxes here are wrapped up so tight with no labels whatsoever that you can't really be sure what you're getting at all. A gentleman informed me that you could take boxes up front to be checked, though how manageable of an approach is that when each bin has a hundred mystery boxes? A better approach would be for them to open them, write on the side what it is, and put it in the bins, though maybe that's just not worth it to them. All things considered, while I might swing by again if I happened to be in the area (especially on one of their cheaper days), it's not worth going out of your way for. If you want a much better volume of options (most of which you can actually see what you're getting), head down the road for Discount Depot. I came specifically to look at their books and the prices of books was amazing. I brought a novel home for $3.99. They have a lot of kitchen and home goods, rugs and small selection of garden things. I looked at the prices of some of their home appliances and it was fairly priced. What put me off about this place was the restroom mainly. It was so dirty, and not maintained. I blame mostly customers for throwing stuff on the ground including dirty toilet paper, who does that? There were not a lot of employees but someone should check in on the bathrooms because it was so gross. The employee at the checkout was so sweet and welcoming though, so I think I would come back if I'm in the area again.

From the moment you walk in, you can look 360 degrees around you and find all kinds of interesting things. Pictures, figures, frames, mannequins, signs, furniture, and the list goes on. The people there are extremely friendly and willing to help find what you may have come for, if they have it. They have wish lists and will keep you in mind if they come across that odd item you just need to have. This isn't like any antique or home decor place you've been to. This place is a feast for the senses. We ended up leaving with 2 signs, an old stained glass window, and 4 display figures. We'll be going back soon since they get stuff in frequently. I was an hour and half south of us but well worth the trip! 1/29/13 - UPDATE Apparently they are going out of buisness? We went down there on Sunday after not having visited in a while. First off, yeah, they know lots of folks are going to want alcohol, and I think half of the aisle endcaps displayed something alcoholic. While they had a lot of classic and domestic products, they do offer a decent amount of local beer, wine, and pre-mixed cocktails (even though the Untappd app said the local beer I was looking for wasn't sold anywhere in a 25 mile radius, Island Foods had it!). We came the week of Pony Penning, and the store makes a couple dozen cakes (see picture) to celebrate the occasion. The produce aisle is small, but they have enough that you could get a decent variety of fruits and vegetables for your stay. There's a pretty decent selection of meats here. I don't remember seeing too much non-frozen seafood, but I imagine it's hard to compete with the fresh catch with specialty fish markets on the island. I was pleasantly surprised to find several Gardein products, which meant vegetarian Child #1 could have some imitation meats and seafood if he wanted a protein similar to what the rest of his omnivorous family would get. Things are pricey. Inflation's here to stay and it's a touristy beach town. Considering that, it's not too bad. The folks at the register were very friendly. Whatever foodstuffs you're looking for, it's a good bet that Island Foods has it.
