New to Dollar General customer, but I was drawn in by their app's coupon deals. This location is in downtown Grayslake. It's an older building, the aisles are tight and there's not automatic door opener so it's tough getting a cart in or out. There are some good deals, especially with the app coupon's, so it's worth going out of the way to shop here. I just didn't feel the need to wander the store. read more

Cathy and staff are 10 STAR performers. ? Why? Poor rating. It starts at the top. The score is for intended to recognize the failure of leadership with the corporate team. No respect for customers or staff. Get this store staffed with temps and get this store stocked! Boxes lines up for weeks and shelves empty... Staff upfront with lines of customers. What is going on with operations leadership? A few stores in Lake county are a big mess. Pay your staff and get hiring! Shame on you! At 160.00 plus a share, get it together. Greedy bunch. And have the broken floor tiles in all your stores repaired too. The villages need to do a health inspection, building inspection walk thru on your stores. read more

Today was an exceptional service day for Dollar General. A new checker, Maria was at the register. She was wonderful. I checked out then saw there were sparklers at the front of the store and came back to get them. no one was in line, so Maria asked me if I had children, I said no, why? she said you seem really happy and carefree, I thought you might not. I said I might not, but my mom has Alzheimer's, so have to manage her life and mine, it's pretty hard, but I look for the good and positive things in life. I asked if she had children, she said she did and it's hard. She then asked me about Alzheimers, I explained how my mom is losing her memories, and because her brain is slowly shutting down she will eventually not be able to breathe. but for right now she's ok, it's just she forgets a lot. I told Maria as hard as it is to treasure the time with her kids, it's precious, even if it's so hard working and caring for them. Maria said she's sorry and she will definitely treasure the time with her little ones. She was really kind, curious, and compassionate. We need more Maria's in this world: compassionate people who care about those around them. If you are reading this, I hope you too will be a Maria. read more

Cluttered, dirty (windows and floors are filthy), and most of all I placed an online order for pick up the next day and someone else picked up/order completed. Tried to call the store multiple times but their phone wasn't working and I finally went into the store the next day to ask about my order and cashier said she put all items back and was cancelled even though I got charged and email alerted me that items were picked up. read more

Be careful of manager named Maria. If she's confronted about the store or don't agree with you on something she will snap like a bulldog with no remorse. read more

This place might be one of the most discussing places I have walked into. Aisles are full and you cant walk down them. So safety hazard. Customers and employees not wearing masks. And r real lot just not clean. Also they smoke in front of store. read more

Let me start by saying that I hate the Dollar General chain in "general". I don't even understand the name. Vey few things cost $1 in there. I lived in Grayslake for 10 years before going there. Then I moved within walking distance from this store. It is a life saver. It is a great place to get last minute grocery and toiletry items. I see several people do all their grocery shopping here. The selection is too limited for that (for me anyway), but it is possible to do so. The people there are always friendly to me and my kids. I find myself going there several times a week for things like bread, cereal, or milk when I don't want to drive to the grocery store. I would never drive out of my way to go there, but for what it is, it fills a need and I am glad it's there! read more

Average run of the mill dollar store , but with exceptional customer service! All of the staff here is polite and friendly, always warmly greeting people as they come in. It's a great shop when you're in a pinch and out of the essentials! Paper towels, check. Cleaning supplies, check. Laundry Detergent, check. It's really saved me a lot of time , and I'm able to walk there vs driving to jewel and risk getting stuck at a freight train (oh the joy of our grayslake train system). This place has even come in handy when I realized I'm out of a particular condiment, or the fiancé decides to have friends over and we need drinks! I'm always able to run out and get a few quick things, whatever we need! This store is well laid out, and prices always clearly marked. They have some kind of digital coupon system which I have not tried yet, but it seems to give you some good deals. $4.95 Simply Tide with a $3 off digital coupon? That's less than $2 for name brand laundry soap. Pretty great deal if you ask me! read more

I shopped there for the first time yesterday. I found the cashier and workers to be very friendly and helpful and there were not too many people so I didn't wait to check out. The male cashier (sorry I didn't catch his name) even helped me with the DG electronic coupons so that I could save extra money. I am happy that this store is close by my house and I will definitely go back for my in between big shopping trip needs. Many of their items are cheaper than the big grocery stores. read more

Worst customer service ever. Lost my wallet and needed help. Forget the "do unto others" idea. Clerk refused to help,was rude and condescending on the phone. Would not even put me on hold to ask someone to help me. I drove all the way there to get an answer, only to be treated the same way. After spending thousands of dollars there and almost 20 years, I will never shop there again. And don't get me started on the foul language the workers there use... read more

I gave it 2 stars because the morning worker (manager?) is always very friendly and helpful... But what I experienced the other night will make me probably never go back. I used to prefer the Grayslake location over the other 2 within 10 mins driving distance because it is nice, clean and organized. But the attitude and unnecessarily poor customer service will make the extra 10 minute drive to the next one worth it. They had a $3 off of $15 deal going on, along with some other decent digital coupons so my daughter and I decided to pop in and grab a few things. The check out line was long, and another clearly agitated cashier came up to the front to help the other male cashier check people out. She was rude from the start of calling people over. I started putting my items up on the counter, she looked in my cart and said rudely, do you have something in that bag?? I did, I had a set of razors in a yellow DG bag along with the receipt to exchange for another set that was sitting on top the bag. I assumed doing my order first was easier. She said to the people behind me, "it's going to be awhile, I have to do an EXCHANGE!" like it was the end of her world. Of course everyone groans and rolls their eyes at the thought of waiting another minute. Exchange was done. We go to check out, I enter my phone # to take off my digital coupons and they don't come off my order. I told her and she said "well, I don't know what to tell you!". I know from experience this happens because the cashier totals out before the coupons are removed, all she has to do is hit clear twice and it will adjust. I told her I know all my coupons loaded on YOUR system qualify and my total isn't right. She just stood there looking at me, my face was bright red and she was unwilling to help me. I decided to not hold up her line anymore embarrassing me and my daughter. I drove the 10 minutes to the Round Lake location, was greeted with a smile by a cashier when I walked in, a manager joked with us as I grabbed my items and went to check out. Coupons came off without a hitch and I was out the door in less than 3 minutes. That's customer service. Maybe someone should discuss with the heavier set Caucasian woman with baby phat glasses that this isn't the business for her if she is going to treat paying customers this way! read more
