I normally go the Dollar Tree in Troy (in the Walmart plaza) but I was on my way to Panera to pick up curbside, and this was the only dollar store in that area. It had kind of an old/funky smell inside. I saw they had cards through the window, so that was encouraging, but their Halloween selection is pretty limited; they maybe had like 10 different card designs to choose from, but 7-8 of those were for little kids (grandkids, children, etc). I ended up buying five for family and friends, and good thing I did because they have a $5 minimum limit for credit cards. The final reason I'm giving them 3 stars: the cashier was not wearing a mask. The man next to him beside the counter was, FWIW. He had a very thin layer of plastic sheeting between me and him, so I'm guessing that's why he thought it was fine ... however, I'm "high risk," so I definitely wiped off my credit card with a wipe when I got back to my car. I wouldn't stop by here again, I will just go to Dollar Tree next time. But they do have a lot of cards (non-Halloween ones) if you need them.

I also purchased Serta Soft Cool and Warm material Bed sheets throughout my browsing and price checking with comparison. Yes, this location maybe disorganized at times or messy areas of towels or other sale items but shoppers can be the reason because every time I shop here for a sale item or check on an ad item, the staff here are working the best they can and hard at times unpacking boxes to stocking shelves. I've been in retail so I know all about customers leaving carts, not picking up something they dropped, walking over merchandise or setting things down wherever. Took them home and charged and installed them exactly according to the instructions. They worked for 10 minutes and completely stopped working. They did this several times. Took them back to Dollar Tree the very next day with the box, receipt and all enclosed paperwork. The manager would not refund my money or exchange them for other items of equal value. Then she got rude and nasty and refused to give me the name and phone number to the real store manager so I could call him the next day.

When things are running smoothly, you can find some good deals. That said, I'm increasingly disappointed with a few things. During promotions, the store is clearly understaffed, and the lines become excessively long for everyone. It turns what should be a fun, bargain-hunting trip into a frustrating experience. I was also told by a staff member that they are instructed to look up every item online before pricing it and putting it on the floor. That approach might make sense from a business standpoint, but it takes away from the feeling that you're getting a fair "thrift store" deal and can really slow down the process of getting items out for customers. What bothers me most, though, is learning that this is a for-profit-only company that doesn't appear to represent any cause or give back to the community. There are donation bins in front of the store, but there's no clear indication that those donations go to a good cause or help people in need. In contrast, many other resale and thrift stores are transparent about supporting local charities, community programs, or people in need. It's disappointing that Value World doesn't seem to do the same, especially when they rely on donations and present themselves in a way that can easily be mistaken for a charitable thrift store.

To my dismay, I was informed by a disgruntled employee that there were no public restrooms available. Recognizing my urgency and the imminent risk of incontinence, a female employee intervened and kindly requested that I be allowed to use the restroom. Despite my gratitude, the employee remained dismissive and turned away. Subsequently, he contacted another employee via walkie-talkie to unlock the restroom door. In a state of panic, I rushed through the store, nearly damaging my clothing due to the prolonged nature of my urgency. It is perplexing that there are multiple stalls in the restroom, yet no single toilet is accessible. I suspect that this may be attributed to a lack of concern for customer needs or a preference for avoiding unpleasant situations. However, there are effective ways to address such issues. It is unacceptable that I had to endure such discomfort and distress(tears) in a shopping center to get help. Apart from this incident, I had no other complaints about the store.

So the hand germs from the scoop is now in the food, and someone needs to reach in and touch the food in order to retrieve it. Which I saw a customer do. The directions are also unclear, you need to write down all the product codes instead of the large number on the information sheets, which is the price/lb. We did get small portions of 2 types of candy, both which were stale. It was also $6, which is cheap, but I can get x5 the amount of candy at the dollar store or drugstore for that price. The staff member was nice, and there was a regular in there who seemed to come often.

The store personnel took me right to the salt and pepper and answered my questions about the different types of salt and pepper. I selected my salt and pepper and paid less than half of what I would have paid in a traditional store. There were so many different items to browse. I was especially happy to see the bulk coffee beans and the coffee grinder! I love vanilla tootsie roll midgets and found them in bulk here...they are so very hard to find. Lots of candy, cookies, dog treats and anything you need to make a fancy cake. Huge store with with small prices. Check it out.
