Wow! I had never been to Plainfield Lanes before, but came for my nephew's birthday party this weekend. I was very pleasantly surprised! Most bowling alleys (if not part of a chain, ie Brunswick), have a dreary vibe to them - dark, dank and unkempt - but not here. We arrived at 1pm for the birthday party, and all of the lanes were already busy. You can tell that this business books a lot of parties - and I can see why! The price per person for parties is fantastic! They have multiple tiers of both children and adult parties, as well as corporate and fundraising events. We had chicken fingers and pizza, and both were better than you'd expect at a bowling alley. The party even had a coordinator; he kept the time very on track, and was very accommodating. This was my first time at Twisted Pin, and I was very impressed. The prices are pretty high but as a non-bowler, I am not sure how they rank compared to other places. On the other hand, this place is also a little more high end compared to your old fashion bowling/dive bar places. The location was very easy to find. We used Google Navigation and it lead us directly to the place. If you miss the entrance, it might be a little annoying to backtrack but no big issues. Parking was no issues and it is very big compared to the size of the building. We showed up on a busy Wednesday where it is penny pins so you only pay a penny per pin you knock down. Essentially...the worst you are, the cheaper your game will be. Inside the building is very nice and clean. There are two entrances..one is a "restaurant" and the other is the decent sized arcade and bowling. There is a self serving beer tap. And they do serve food. They do a little star less due to the prices of the food as well. It is better than your traditional bar/bowling food but it is a little more expensive. Also, I do enjoy the service of the self serving beer tap. They had a lot of selections of beer, 1-2 seltzers, 1 cider and ~5 wine selection. Also, they do have a "limit" of ~32 oz where the bartender can allow you or less depending on how you act. I do appreciate that so while you can drink feely, no one is getting drunk. I think we were paying ~.60 cents an oz and it does tell you how much your drink will cost as you are pouring. Also, they do have a small water station will is greatly appreciated. The arcade is decently sized. They do have a lot of selections of games but it is not a place where I would go just for the arcade. The size is good for after bowling or while you are waiting for your lane. Overall, I am very impressed with this location. Food, self serving beer tap, and arcades... Went here recently. It's been many years since I've been there and the whole place has been modernized. They changed names they've got all new lanes, got a pro shop, they got all sorts of crane games and video games etc. I did not bowl, but my kids all bowled with their cousins. What I didn't like, was we got there at 245 and the kids wanted to bowl for an hour, 3 games and there was really nobody on the main lanes except two of the lanes which were already in use and they didn't want to rent lanes to my kids because they said the Plainfield teachers group is coming in. And I'm sure they wouldn't be there till 4 o'clock but this is it like at 2:30 2:45 and so they made my kids rent a lane which cost more dollars an hour and the shoes were more and they had to rent a lane in the VIP section which had colored lights and video on the wall and because they're worried about taking care of this teachers group and school wasn't even close to being over yet but they just wanted to make money on whoever was there. So we got stiffed by having to pay a lot higher prices and I didn't like that. So of course my wife liked the fact that they had a pour your own beer area. With like 20 different beers, some wines, some seltzers etc. etc. And you give them your card upfront they give you a separate card which you wave over the selection that you want , and then it weighs by the ounce how much it pours for you and then charges you a fee. It was in the afternoon and I didn't feel like drinking although the wife drank with my nephew. That was a good thing but I'm really only gonna give them two & 1/2 stars because they were obviously didn't want to rent to us so they gave us the expensive lanes. We went here when our son just turned three for his first bowling experience. We were annoyed that even though more than half of the lanes were open we were put next to a group of middle or high schoolers. Needles lbs to say, we were sick of them overstepping our area, cussing, and taking selfies near us so we never finished our game. I truly enjoyed myself out here at the twisted pin! It's an updated bowling alley with arcade area which was kind of small but still a good time. It's the only place that I have seen where I can pour my own beer on tap. Which was really cool and the food was so delicious! The chicken wings were fried to perfection and they have these garlic fries that was OMG! We literally ordered a second order because they were that good! The best thing about this place are the drinks. I really enjoyed the bartender. I bowled a few times and it was cool. Nothing special.

My previous review is nullified since Plainfield Lanes no longer exists and has been completely revamped and overhauled. I haven't been to this bowling alley in 3 years, came here around opening time at two. I wanted to play a few games of bowling but this is the first bowling alley where you basically pay for the time (per hour) and not per game. It's not your standard bowling game either, you can play from a multitude of games choices to work on sharpening your skills and challenge yourself if you're experienced. The bumpers even pop up on their own. They have private party rooms where it has much better roomy seating but you're close to the bar and restrooms. I didn't stick around to try anything to drink or eat. The pro shop is small but incredible at the same time. The game room has a fair array of games and essentially works like a Dave and Busters establishment where your tickets and currency are on your card. All in all, I actually wouldn't come here if you're coming by yourself because it's a bit costly but if you came here with a group of friends, I will recommend this place because you are paying for a premium experience. We came to this bowling alley to practice and the alleys when we arrived were lit up and you could see everything fine. There was a league of about 15 girls playing next to us. Soon after we started the league finished. The next thing I know the lites on the alleys all went dark and the lites on the pins changed colors every 10 seconds. I'm a spot bowler and I couldn't see the spots, and my partner looks at the pins and basically could not see them because they were changing colors every 10 seconds. Went here for the first time Saturday night. We had to wait 15 minutes for a lane and spent our time playing in the arcade. Once we got our lane, we had a blast bowling. Way overpriced. When you order food, they put a 20% fee for gratuity on the final price. The food quantity is small for the high price you pay. The beer prices are ridiculous. $5 for Coors light draft. Really? The bowling pins are on cables/strings which makes it unrealistic when knocking down pins since there are times pin are either knocked down due to other pin cables hitting them, or pins don't get knocked down due to other pins cables providing leverage to keep the pins up. If you haven't been here yet you're missing out!We hosted my daughter's birthday party in the private lane area and it was perfect! We had a mix of kids and adults and all ages. Everyone commented how cool the venue was. I worked with Shanna to coordinate the event and she was super helpful. Everything was exactly as we had discussed the day of the party and she was very responsive to last minute changes. Food was great and they took care of everything for us. Jarrett was our party host and he was extremely attentive and helpful. He was so friendly to the whole party and very thoughtful on timing of food, cake, etc. Josie was the lone bartender that day. We kept her busy but she was great keeping up with our party and the rest of the alley. The front counter and arcade staff was super friendly as well and patient with all the prize decisions the kids were making. We had a great time at Plainfield Lanes. The service was outstanding, the entire staff was friendly and very helpful. The food was great, from the wings to the pizza it was all good. The kids loved the bowling and the staff, especially John (the GM), went out of their way to make sure that all the kids were happy. Truly a great place to take the family and a great experience. Recently went there and tried out the new VIP section, it was beautiful, I had mojitos and they were made perfectly! I had the margarita pizza and it was delicious! Just a few negatives, for one they changed out the pins and now they hang on strings! The strings were knocking down pins they shouldn't be! For professional bowlers or leagues this is very disappointing! Second negative , you cannot get a bottle of beer anymore! You have to get beer off tap and they charge by the ounce, not every one likes tap! 3rd negative they put booths in the vip section and every time someone gets up to bowl their turn, other people will have to get up to let them out! The saddest place in Plainfield Whatever you do, do not have any type of celebration here. Birthday, forget it. Homecoming celebration, go somewhere else. Pre/Post-Wedding bowl, don't even think about it. Graduation, non-starter. Quinceañera, no way Jose! Going away party, you'll never want to come back after bowling here anyways. Work celebration, you better just go back to work. Whatever the celebration, the staff and General Manager at Plainfield Lanes is sure to ruin your event. If you are looking for a terrible time, come on down. My first interaction with Plainfield Lanes started with their website. I wanted to have a birthday celebration for my wife, an avid bowler who coached a high school team, which practiced at this bowling alley for many years (and still does). The website shows that they offer children's parties, family parties and company parties. I thought this sounded like a great place to have a party and I drove to the alley. I was told that I needed to speak to the General Manager. The General Manager was fairly abrasive, short and a rude. I chalked it up to maybe it being a rough, long day for him. He told me that they did not do "parties" and that I would have to call it a "group event". He then told me that my options were to go on-line and book a fast-lane bowling slot, which was over $150 for two hours of bowling on one lane or that I could email, I think her name was Sherri, and that she would take care of everything. He informed me that Sherri worked from home and I should email her and she would make sure everything I needed was done. He gave me instructions to contact Sherri and I went home and contacted her. My email was returned by Jonathan he told me that they did not do "parties" and that I should just book a fast-lane bowling time on the website. I replied and asked her were there any other options, but I never received a response. At this point I was having some misgivings about this bowling alley, but my wife had coached here for years. She often still went to the bowling alley to visit her friend/current team coach and she had fond memories of the lanes. I booked four fast-lane lanes, totaling over $500. I told everyone I invited to not bring any gifts or balloons. I didn't want to tell any guests that they didn't do "parties" as the whole thing sounded, frankly absurd and was hard to explain, but I stressed no gifts, however, not everyone listens. Three out of twenty guests decided to bring presents in small giftbags and another guest brought about five helium balloons. I spent $133 just on pop for everyone and her friend spent over $100 on pizza. We tipped generously. Many people also went to the bar and bought drinks, food and pop on their own. All the food was way overpriced and was just typical bowling alley fare, but that is to be expected. Although they said they did not do parties, a happy birthday message was placed on the screens above our lanes. About thirty minutes into the event, the General Manager came onto our lanes and started screaming at my guests yelling about who was in charge. Eventually he made his way to me. He told me that none of this was allowed. I told him that I scheduled this time and had already paid in full. He told me that no gifts or balloons were allowed and this was stated on the front doors (it's not). He said that there can be no outside food. I pointed to the pop, pizza, beer and other food and drinks we had bought and informed him that the food was all from his bowling alley and there was no outside food on our lanes or anywhere else. I asserted that there was nothing on the door prohibiting a few balloons or presents. He told me that he would shut the lanes down and refund my money if I did not comply. Not wanting to ruin my wife's birthday (any more than he already had), I took the three giftbags to my car. I left the balloons up as I couldn't untie the knot (they were tied to a chair) and I really didn't want to go ask him for a scissors. He was very abrasive about the whole thing and yelled quite a bit. After the scene he made, I pretty much had to explain to each guest that this was not a party, but a "group event" and I had to explain and apologize for his behavior. I had to explain to each guest the ordeal I previously went through with staff. The manager was so loud that I also had to explain to people on adjoining lanes our "situation" as several of them came over to ask what the problem was. By the end of the party, I think maybe the manager saw how much we spent on the lanes and how much we spent on food and drinks and decided he would like to keep us at the bowling alley, keep spending our money at least. He came up to me and seemed to indicate that the bar was nearly empty and maybe we could use the bar area to continue our "group event". I told him I would rather go home. He said OK and walked away. I will never come here again I recommend Lisle Lanes. It's half the price and the staff are nice. read more

Reserved three lanes in advance for a family bowling get-together. Everything went great. Clean, organized, friendly attentive staff. Facilities, bowling lanes and atmosphere all very nice. So Sunday January 23rd we had a birthday party for my 15-year-old daughter and her friends. We ended up reserving two lanes online before the party. The only way to book a reservation for bowling or for individual parties etc. Is pay for them in advance online. You can still go to the bowling alley during open bowling times without a reservation. However, you would take a chance of having to wait for an available lane. Cost for the two lanes included bowling for an hour and a half and shoes for the bowlers. There's a maximum of five bowlers per lane. In addition to the cost for the lane, there was a $7 online booking fee. Our total ended up being $186 which I thought was quite expensive but it was what my daughter wanted for her birthday and was such short notice. We couldn't find a suitable alternate activity. The bowling alley itself is very nice. In addition to bowling, they have an escape room and an arcade and the typical bowling alley bar and snack bar. Some of the kids did play a few of the video arcade games but we did not use the escape room. The bowling alley looks like it was recently renovated and was very clean . I assume due to COVID restrictions you can only order food and drinks through their electronic ordering system at your individual lanes. Due to this fact you currently can only pay with credit card for those snacks. Because we were having food and cake back at our house after bowling. I just ordered some sodas by the pitcher for everyone and the pitchers were $8 a piece. I was at one of the vending machines to purchase a non-carbonated drink for my daughter who doesn't like soda and I was having difficulty with my credit card. One of the employees a teenage boy that I didn't get his name came over to help me. We got to talking and had a nice conversation and I told him we were there for my daughter's 15th birthday. A few minutes later this boy brought her a candy bar that he had bought to give her for her birthday! I thought that was super sweet of him to go out of his way to acknowledge her birthday. The whole staff in general is super nice and we all had a great time. My only complaint was I believe it was a little on the expensive side but with the nice atmosphere of the place and the wonderful quality of the staff I think it was worth it and I would recommend others to go there too. read more

Surprisingly great! Only say that because its a bowling alley and I wasn't expecting much. My husband and I were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary with friends and had a really good time.
