Our group of 6 went whale watching on a rainy (almost stormy) day where the waves were 5ft crests. As such, our boat load was a light one and everyone had an easy time getting good views of the whales. Liz, our naturalist, was fantastic. She satisfied the birdwatchers of our group with knowledgeable information of the summer and winter birds hanging around in-between seasons, along with all of her extensive knowledge on the patterns of whales. She was also very gracious in announcing missing binoculars (which we got back). The captain, (Brian?) kept pace with the whales and gave us some great sights. Some Sightings: Cormorants, Shearwaters, Great Black-backed Gulls, & other birds I can't remember.. 2 Gray Seals A few Minke Whales A couple Humpback Whales A Fin Whale (We saw this on our way back, Liz told us to "Get back out there!" and we're sure glad we did!) 2 doses of whale poop (research material and fertilizer of the ocean)! read more

Had never done this and was very glad i went. By far one of the coolest experiences i had ont eh cape recently. I sat on top and was very glad i did - the tour guide is there so you can very clearly hear them. Also - being on top gives you such a better view. We saw about 20 whales and even had the opportunity to see about 5 of them breach which is absolutely amazing (where they jump out of the water). We also saw a sunfish which has to be the ugliest fish ever (poor guy). The boat is clean, with plenty of space and a great knowledgeable staff. Depending on when you go you might want to pack an extra sweatshirt or jacket. read more

This was our highlight of this year's stay at Cape cod. I expected to be seasick and not seeing too many whales. Instead, I saw a bunch of whales in two different stops and did not get sick despite the 2-4 ft waves. I must have taken hundreds of pix using the "sport mode" on my SLR camera... It was a great experience and enjoyed our time with the family without the distractions of all the electronic gauges. btw... the google "map" app on my phone could pinpoint our location even after we were 1.5 hours out! read more

Wife and I did the whale tour today out of Providencetown. Great tour. About 3 1/2 hours long. Lady narrating the tour very knowledgable and interesting. Saw a lot of whales, many up close within 20-30 feet of the boat. Also saw a few Dolphins. Plenty of seating. Concession stand selling food and making drinks. Well worth the $47/pp. read more

Amazing experience!!! Informative enthusiastic staff, you can tell they love their job. Saw so many whales it was surreal. The captain even let us stay out longer than scheduled because the humbacks were breaching, what a sight!! At first I thought $42 ($39 if you have AAA) was quite pricey, but once I saw all the whales out in the open water...I'd pay that 3x's over. Best $40 bucks I've ever spent--hands down! read more

Went Early May on the 1:30 trip. Weather wasn't great and water was a little rough that day but overall great experience. The staff was wonderful and we got to briefly see a few whales. Highlight of the trip was on the way back to the dock spotting a juvenile whale floating in the water only about 200ft from the shore. Well worth the price! Would definitely do it again. read more

We enjoyed the whale watching tour, absolutely the highlight of our Cape Cod vacation. My son wants to write an email to his 2nd grade teacher about this experience! We learned so much from the naturalist onboard and the whales did not dispoint us. We saw a whale jumped out of the water with a full flip turn. My wife has never been on a whale watch, so we decided to give this a try. Despite leaving early, we hit awful traffic and there was no parking available nearly. We ended up missing out 1:30 reservation. However, Dolphin has multiple boats (more than the other whale watch companies we have seen) and had another boat leaving at 2pm that we were able to take. The overall experience was very positive. The sightings were unbelievable! The Captain and Crew clearly know what they are doing. Food and drinks are available on the boat (cash only, and a bit overpriced). Our only complaint is the sound system. There were very few places in the boat you could hear the commentary which was quite frustrating. Because of the wind, we were inside of the boat and it was impossible to hear what was being said (it sounded like the teacher from Charlie Brown). If you were on the right side of the boat, near the front, you could hear what they were saying. If you were not right upfront, you could not hear it. There was no speaker at all on the left side of the boat. We did not attempt to go on the upper deck because of the wind and sun. The seas were rough on the way out (thanks for roller coaster ride at no additional cost!). read more

We had a wonderful trip and saw tons of whales. Amazing!

Trip lasted 3 hours. Saw multiple whales and a few sea lions. Maximum speed according to an app I had was 24 MPH. There were 150 people on the one I went on. We went on the 5:30 PM. We thought this might be too late but we did it anyway. It turned out to be great. Bring a Sweatshirt! Best seats seemed to be in the very front on the top level or bottom. read more

We went on the 5:00pm outing & even though it was over an hour before we saw any whales, it was spectacular when they appeared! We saw a total of 6 whales....a mom with her calf as well as several more in the pod. Well worth the trip & so much fun to watch! BRING A JACKET....even if it's hot when you leave the shore....it gets chilly on the water! I'd highly recommend this boat & crew. read more

I love dolphin and whales, and decided to visit cape cop for my bday weekend and to see them in their natural habitat. I chose them because it said guaranteed sighting. That should have been a red flag. Their website said they follow whale sense and that it was the whales annual migratory path. It also has 3 different times where it goes out to sea on a daily basis. That should have been another red flag. We saw about 6 different types of whales, but here is what I didn't like: Before we even saw one, the woman said they should be emerging pretty soon. How did they know?? Unless they track them by sonar, which tricks and confuses the whales.. Every time we saw them pop up the boat would move next to them or make a turn to get closer to them. Every time whales were spotted, the boat got within about 20 yards next to the whales, when it should stay at least 100 yards away. According to the announcer there was a mother and calf who was nursing and we also got too close next to them. One whale was so close and not by his own choice that the announcer said it would probably go underneath the boat and resurface on the other side. Which thankfully it did not. It resurfaced about 10 yards away. Once we spend about 5 minutes with one whales the boat would then speed up to go to the next destination, while we were still not far from the whales. They had food and snacks you can buy on the boat. Which is another way to earn more money! But here is the problem me and my friends witnessed: Half way through while me and my friends were in the back of the boat, we saw a worker walk over and dump what looked like chili OVERBOARD! She didn't seem to care at all. That makes me wonder, what else do they dump into the ocean?? So not only do they get too close to them, they go out multiple times a day which disturbs them and on top of that they pollute the area where the whales are. I am reporting them as a scam to the NOAA, and the WDC. They need to be held accountable for their actions!! read more

We saw tons of whales on a beautiful day! The boat was very clean and the top deck made it super easy to walk back and forth to both sides to see all the whales. The scientist on top was really great in explaining what we were seeing and directing us to where the action was. Worth the money! read more

We took the afternoon trip on May 7th. It was foggy, cold and dreary, but this was our only tour time choice for our visit to Cape Cod. The naturalist on board was so good and gave so much information on the different possible whales we could see and also the local seals. She also gave us a lot of info about the area, basically a guided tour of all the shorelines that we traveled past as well as a brief history of Province Town. Although the weather never improved, my husband and I were determined to stay on the upper deck for pictures of the very illusive whales. After 3 hours of constant searching based on their knowledge of where whales had been sighted earlier in the day...success!!! We had an opportunity to see a Finback whale. This whale dove alongside the boat 3 different times, which means we got to see it blow, break water and hump its' back 9 times total. What an amazing experience. We would definitely recommend this tour and would also recommend that you try and stay up on the top deck. There were many opportunities to ask questions and easily go from side to side watching for the whales. They do have a very nice snack bar, huge heated cabin area and clean bathrooms. For the opportunity and the length of time out on the ocean, this was a reasonable cost. We would love to go again sometime and will definitely go with Dolphin Fleet. read more

This was a great overall experience. Pros: We saw dozens of whales, especially humpbacks, up close and personal. The crew did a great job making sure all sides of the boat saw the whales. Cons: Was an hour too long. We fell asleep on the way back. I can't imagine this holding the interest of young children for 3 hours but the boat ride overall was fun. Tip: bring a sweatshirt in case it gets chilly on the water. We would recommend this tour to anyone interested in seeing Cape Cod's gorgeous, huge whales and spending some time out on the water. read more

Staff was fantastic. Ride was smooth. Being closer to the whales allows for more time watching whales than other boats provide. This trip we saw lots of whales. We also saw dolphins, a seal and a Sea turtle. Totally awesome! read more

This was a great trip (late June). We saw only 2 whales, mostly focusing on one humpback, but we saw a lot of that whale, with great looks for quite a long time. The naturalist on board was very helpful, the boat was easy to see the whales from, the ride was fine (it was a calm day), it was convenient to get to and park near, and booking was easy. We were allowed to bring our well behaved dogs along, which was nice. I've been whale watching many times (mostly out of Gloucester) and almost always have seen whales for good looks and this was no exception. Not sure if there really are other choices in P-Town, but this was a good outfit. read more

Great boat, but the company sold half of the seats to a summer camp of 8 year olds. The journey is 4 hours long and so the kids got bored. They were loud in general and made it hard to hear the tour guides. It really diminished the experience. It was an unfortunate decision to allow the summer camp to buy in bulk alongside the standard groups. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dolphin Fleet. I've been going on their whale watches every year and have never been disappointed! The boat goes pretty fast, and that's fun all by itself! I've never gotten sea sick, but if the water is really rough, they recommend you take Dramamine just in case. If you are an animal lover, nature lover, interested I life in any sort of way, seeing the largest mammal launch itself into the air will take your breath away!! I've always seen so many whales on every trip I've had with Dolphin Fleet and it's amazing to watch these animals- well worth the trip, wherever you're coming from. The reason I'm writing the review today is because I had plans to go with friends this afternoon, but unfortunately there was a flight delay and blah blah blah. When I called to see if I could cancel the five tickets I purchased last week, I didn't expect it to be so easy. The staff member I spoke to was so kind and friendly and they were able to refund me. Took the kids here last week while on vacation and we were not disappointed. The cruise was a lot of fun and were saw several whales while out on the water. The crew did a great job of getting whales on both sides of the boat so everyone had an opportunity to view the whales. Great experience for families with kids for an afternoon of fun. read more

One of the best nature trips we've taken. We saw over 30 finback, humpback and minke whales close to the boat and I counted over 100 separate sightings. It was awesome. The naturalist on board did a great job preparing us for what we were going to see and pointing out the whales. We went on a whale watch today and loved it. The boat (and head) was immaculate and very well maintained. Despite having a full boat of about 200 passengers, there was plenty of room and we didn't feel like we had to fight for space. When my eight year-old finally got sick (inevitable) the crew made sure that we had paper towels, sprite, and oyster crackers...then they continued to check on us throughout the remainder of the trip. We got very lucky and saw 25-30 separate humpback whales today. In all, a great experience. read more

I went on the 9:15am whale watch on May 31st, 2014 and was not disappointed. I had the most amazing time and now want to go whale watching anywhere any chance I get!! We had a family of 14 humpbacks with 2 calves feeding and creating the bubble netting right off the bow of the boat where I was and swimming within 5 feet of the boat and showing their tails! There was even a few breaches by the baby! This was the first time I have seen whales and I was truly moved by being so close to such a large, graceful and gentle animal. The whales stayed with the boat so they just floated there which is something they said doesnt happen to often. They normally have to follow them. On the way back to port we also seen an endangered finback whale. The staff on board are all very knowledgable and even showed us and let us feel baleen plates from the whale. If you go to Cape Cod, you must go on a whale watch with Dolphin Fleet!! They are awesome! :) I bought the video of my whale watch and can not wait for it to come in the mail!! read more

This is the only Whale watching tour my wife and I have ever been on. This Charter Company was excellent, friendly and the Marine Biologist on board was very educated and informative. We saw a total of 18 whales on our trip ( even though how many and what you see is not guaranteed) It was well worth it. read more

While this was my first whale watch, my wife has been on several and told me it was the best of them. We saw about 6 Fin Whales and at least ten dozen Humpback whales, including six up close (within 20 feet of the ship). We got a lot of excellent pictures. There was enough room for everyone on board to have a good view. The naturalist on board provided engaging information and commentary. Our visit was in mid July, and there were several mother and calf pairs, which was an unexpected treat. read more

If you are prone to motion sickness even in the slightest, beware. 4 out of the 7 people in our party (including 2 children) got sick to the point of throwing up. In addition, about a third of the other people on board. I spent the majority of the time with my kids on the bench helping them not to make a huge mess. Then of course couldn't see when we got out to the whales and everyone was crowding around the edge to see them. There were 10-12 foot waves out today and it was really rough. We were in the middle of the day -- I would have hoped that since the captain and crew knew there were rough waters that they would somehow forewarn the passengers before boarding. Had I'd known I would have not gone even if there wasn't a refund. It's just not worth it to be put through that misery! My advice, call the day of and see if they can tell you what the waters are like and decide based on your level of proneness to sea sickness. read more

We went on the whale watch June 1st. The weather was chilly and rainy but we figured why not. The woman said the water was expected to be rough but we went anyways. I was not expecting it to be as rough as it was nor do I think anyone else did. The mist turned into ice, the waves got so rough that the boat was tossed around and the captain decided the water was getting too rough and decided to turn back for safety reasons. We met very nice people while on the boat so that was a plus. The staff was very knowledgable and sociable, they serve snacks and drinks and even alcoholic drinks they also have complimentary motion sickness pills to those who need it. Although we did not see any whales, got soaked to the bone and hit extremely bad waves that gave me that scared/fun feeling like you'd get on a roller coaster it was fun. When we finally got back everyone on board was given free tickets to come back that are good infinitely. We might just be the type of people who can make a great time out of a not so great time but I give this review 5 stars because the captain put everyone's safety first, the staff was awesome and we still managed to have a once in a life time experience we'll never forget. read more
