We had an absolutely amazing day out on the water with Dolphin Fleet Whale Watch in Provincetown. Our tour guide, Sophie, made the entire experience unforgettable. She was incredibly knowledgeable, full of energy, and genuinely passionate about whales and nature. You could tell this is more than just a job for her. She even had a whale tattoo on her leg, which made her love for these incredible animals even more authentic. We learned so much from her, and it was refreshing to have a guide so excited to share her knowledge. She kept pointing out the whales as they surfaced, and her timing was perfect, just when you thought the action had moved on, she would spot another humpback breaching or lifting its tail before diving back down. If you can, try to get on one of Sophie's tours. I've been on whale watching tours before, but I have never seen anything like this. Our four kids were beyond excited as we saw what felt like 40 to 60 humpback whales. The boat ride itself was fantastic, with the salty spray in the air and everyone crowding the rails every time a whale came up close. It was one of the most incredible wildlife experiences we have ever had. At first, I thought the tour was a little pricey, but as my son said, "Dad, this was worth every dollar. You should have paid more." He was right. We happily tipped Sophie and the crew on our way out because they absolutely earned it. If you are visiting Provincetown, do not miss this experience. I've been on two w whale watches in last two years. My first experience in 2024 was amazing with privilege of viewing multiple whales breaches. We also viewed at least a dozen whales on voyage. They have a whale specialist to identify and provide more detail on the various species. Great for kids. The second trip in 2025 did not have as many opportunities to view a whales but they went out of their way to locate whales. Boat is very comfortable and offers food and beverages. This was our first time whale watching, and like many people, we were skeptical about whether we'd actually see any whales. To our surprise, this tour exceeded our expectations and was well worth the cost. We saw whales, dolphins, and seals, making the experience even more memorable. We dicided to go out for an afternoon whale watch, as I have never been. Its 3 hours - 1 hour out, 1 hour to watch, and another hour back. We saw so many whales and we were so close to shore. Yes! Finally! I got to see some whales! Now I sleep better at night. On the day we were supposed to go (my birthday) was canceled due to the weather prediction that the storm was going to hit P-town. So we rescheduled it to the next day. However, the next day was a rainy day. So, we saw the whales on a rainy and chilly day. Please note about the seating layout on the boat. Since this is the only boat that's operating at this time, there will always be customers. Due to the pandemic, they block the rows alternately. There is inside and outside seatings. Anywhere you sit doesn't really matter because you get to view the whales. We saw two types: fin and humpback whales. Pretty cool! I bet if it didn't rain we might be able to see more whales. Every few minutes we saw the employees going around sanitizing the railings, tables, chairs, etc. They didn't have a lot of choices at the snack kiosk/bar, not even coffee. This could be due to COVID. They did a good job announcing, giving instructions, and educating the passengers about the whales. Everything was what we expected. It's a bit pricy $55 per person. For the price, I'd like to see more whales, but I'll live! Awesome experience! read more

This was 100% the highlight of our trip. The entire week, I had been watching Elsa like a hawk. We had tickets for Friday, the day the tropical storm was due to hit the MA coast. I called them earlier in the week and they recommended that I switch to Saturday, as they do operate in the rain, but not if it's too windy. They were super nice on the phone and helped me change my tickets. Saturday came and they confirmed that they were going to do tours that day. I was ecstatic! On the drive up to Provincetown, I got an email they were not doing our 2:30pm tour, but we could change to 1:30pm or 4:30pm. Again, staff on the phone were super nice and I was able to get us onto the 1:30pm tour. This ended up being perfect, because we were already in town. The tour was great. It was so cool and helpful to have a naturalist on board navigating what we were seeing. We saw 5 whales - a pod of 2 and another pod of 3. read more

Let me preface this review by saying this is only a review of my most recent whale watch. All others have been magnificent and I anticipated yesterday's excursion to be the same. The boat was so overcrowded you could not see the whales. There simply was not enough room for everyone to stand and see the beautiful creatures in the water. As I was with family who had never been on a whale watch, I gave them preference at the rail. They were able to get great video and to be honest, that was how I saw the whales. I know it's a tough economy but to oversell the whale watch is a disservice to all who paid. Better luck next year, I guess! read more

This whale watch dolphin Fleet adventure was wonderful, spectacular, and met my expectations. Throughout the three hour ride, we saw numerous whales displaying marvelous stunts. It was a beautiful day and calm sea and there were plenty of seats and rail room. The tour guide was very descriptive and directed us in the direction of every siting. The only recommendation I have, is for the tour guide to stop talking on the way back to land. I was a bit skeptical on how they would socially distance everyone on the boat, but they did a decent job to what they can control. Waiting in line to board the ship, no one is distancing themselves. When we reached the feeding ground, whales would primarily be popping up on one side of the ship, so everyone would rush to that side to view the whales. That meant no one was socially distancing themselves. Masks are required to be on at all times, no outside food allowed, but they didn't really check so you probably could have sneaked in a few snacks on board. They do block off every other section to maintain social distancing and also the number of people boarding by what looks to be half. We decided to sit on the bottom floor on one of the side benches to be away from the crowd. The company guarantees whale sighting because we are taken to their feeding ground, in which they stay in one spot for the entirety until it's time for them to migrate to the Caribbean. This was my first time going whale watching and I enjoyed the entire experience, especially with a lot less crowded ship. read more

Whale watching was one of my favorite activities in Provincetown. We decided to go out at 1:30 PM. If you're going in the fall, make sure to wear multiple layers as it gets pretty chilly as you get farther out. There's also a $2.00 coupon code that you can get online or from your B&B keepers. They also offer free Dramamine as you board - make sure to take it in advance (it's preventative and doesn't work as a cure if you're already sea sick). The water was really rough during my trip. The boat was large and had two levels; the upper deck is all open with a canopy and the lower deck has a cafe (which also sells hoodies) and indoor seating. There are two restrooms outside towards the back of the lower level. It was fairly crowded, but there was still plenty of space to sit and walk. The ride out to the whales takes about an hour or so. There is a guide who gives a brief overview about the different species and their feeding processes. When you get to the open water, the boat stops so you get to walk around and see a lot of whales from all sides! It's still a bit rocky even when the boat isn't in motion, so definitely be careful with electronics. I used my GoPro to get some great footage of the whales eating, swimming, jumping, and splashing their tails! Some of the whales got super close to the boat. This was definitely an unforgettable experience. read more

I mostly enjoyed the whale watch, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I also appreciated the senior discount. The boat was really clean and I especially like that the indoor seats where cushioned and fairly comfortable. I would have liked to have heard the guide speaking more clearly, and I thought the snacks were very expensive  I also think  that it might be helpful to post the designated clock numbers for the sections of the boat in a visible area to help with the sightings. I did see a number of whales, but I think it has to do with the time of year and their feeding habits. The staff really don't have much control over how much you'll see and when. I'd suggest checking to make sure it's going to be a clear day and it may be that there are better sightings in the fall, which was when I saw the humpbacks breach on another trip in the past. read more

I was nervous about doing a whale watch during COVID- and even when we were in line to board the ship I got nervous that there were so may people. Luckily once we got on the ship I felt they did a GREAT job of maintaining distancing. Every other row of seating was blocked off, masks were required for everyone on board at all times, and staff made frequent trips around the ship to sanitize hand rails. If you've ever been on a whale watch before you know they're usually PACKED and you're lucky to get a seat- not so on this trip. The ship was under 50% capacity and there was lots of room at the railings to get a close up view of the whales. And yes, we saw lots of them! Many humpbacks including 4 calves, and a whole slew of dolphins as well. The naturalist was knowledgeable and friendly and didn't speak too much or too little. Took this whale watch last minute after my husband finished the pan mass challenge. He was tired and grumpy and worried that we would he stuck out on a boat for 3-4 hours when all he wanted to do was sleep. Our trip was great! Very informative details from the naturalist and very calm ride out to the whales feeding grounds. I've only been whale watching once before. It was in Newport Beach in Southern California and I didn't see any whales! Only dolphins. Nothing against dolphins, but I've seen plenty of those and I was ready and expecting to see some whales. So when I was in Cape Cod in September and a friend wanted to go whale watching, I was skeptical. But she assured me that there's so many whales up here. And oh my god was she right! The price is about $45 which is definitely fair. It's about a 3 hour trip in total. After you buy your ticket near the pier, you board the boat. There was not a ton of people on our boat and there were plenty of places to sit as well as tons of room to walk around. They had coffee and some food items for sale on the boat but it was cash only. Once you board the boat and leave, you'll be going out of the bay and into the deep ocean where the whales are hanging out. It takes about half an hour to get out there. Once we got out there we saw so many whales!! The people on the boat are really great at talking to you the whole time on the microphone and letting you know which direction the whales are at. They can even spot them so, so far away and then they'll take the boat in that direction that they're headed. I can't even say how many whales we saw. It was so many. This is a super fun trip to do while in the Cape. If you've never been whale watching you definitely should do this! It was such a fun time and it just flew by. read more

We have been going on dolphin fleet whale watches for the past 10 years. No trip to Ptown is complete without one! The staff, from the people at the counter to the crew and naturalists on the boat are very friendly and knowledgeable. We've gone out in great weather, bad weather, seen just SO MANY whales, seen a few whales, and one very lucky time saw a northern right whale. Unlike other conservation whale watches, where you maintain a certain distance from whales (25m, 50m, 100m), this tour company chases them around the bay so that you can see them up close. I didn't feel very comfortable with that approach, but it did result in some great encounters with a mother and calf humpback. read more
