Ask the waiter what is good and he will make recommendations. Some of our party were regulars so we asked for a few specific items. We started our meal within an antipasto salad and stuffed artichoke for the table. The dressing on the salad was a perfect blend of a wonderful olive oil and vinegar. The artichoke was tender and tasty. The perfect appetizers for the five of us knowing the best was yet to come with our main meal. For the main courses, we chose linguini with clam sauce, chicken scarpariello, and veal pizzaiola. The linguine and clam sauce was a fantastic blend of al dente pasta and some of the freshest clams I have had in a long time. The chicken scarpariello had the perfect blend of lemon and spices and was falling off the bone. The veal pizzaiola was tender and coated with a very light red sauce. There isn't a menu, the waiter will tell you what's available and suggest the portion size depending on your party/order. I went with 6 other guys. Unfriendly no water with dinner no bread other tables had we did not. This place was empty on a Friday. That should have been a red flag. There are no signs stating that it is CASH only! Also this business will not give you an itemized bill. This is totally illegal not to get an itemized check for a purchase. They just tell you how much you owe. The waiter took our order then food came out and he was slamming the dishes on to the table. Left and didn't bother to ask how we were doing or if we needed anything. This waiter was really bothered or hated his job. The food was not great & they didn't ask how we wanted the pasta. Not a welcoming or inviting environment. They ruined our night out with family. I will not be returning nor do I recommend Dominick's to anyone. Most people go out to unwind have a nice time and a good meal but you will not get that at Dominick's. This restaurant was recommended by a friend who use to live in the Bronx. The food is pretty good but their practices are questionable. They have a menu on their website which is very reasonable but the waiter told us they don't have printed menus that he would verbally tell us what they had. Never heard of such a thing but we went with it. At the end of the meal I went to the ladies room and apparently the waiter told my husband the check was a total of $250 without submitting a written account of our meal!! I wasn't there or I would have definitely asked for a tally since it seemed a bit much for what we had. Even if it was correct I've never heard of not submitting a written check. Recently ate here and the food was beyond amazing. We were a fairly large group so we had a sample of varieties of food. The stuffed peppers were amazing, penna all vodka and pasta alla Gianni which was a clam sauce was the best weve ever tasted. Then we had Chicken scarp, pork ribs marinated in an amazing sauce did not disappoint. They only had one type of white wine and one type of red wine, and it is not served in a wine glass, but rather in a small cup. They also do not have any dessert! But the food really makes up for it.. you fill up so much that you don't even want dessert at the end. It is a cash-only place, so make sure you are prepared! You also do not get a bill at the end of the meal.. the waiter just tells you how much you owe. I love this place - real Italian. No menu, the waiter tells you what's available and you kind of talk out a meal plan with him. We started with the baked clams which were great. I wanted veal chops served with cherry peppers (not on menu) and they made them. The veal was very good - a notch below Rao's, which is my gold standard. They were loin and Rao's makes rib chops, so that may be the difference. But the best dish was the snapper. I am not even a snapper fan but this was incredible and PERFECTLY cooked. Crispy on the outside, but when you cut into it, juices spurted out. We got the last one left, I see why it sells out. This is my favorite place on Arthur Avenue. read more

We got there over a half an hour before they opened and waited outside with a lot of other people. The food is really good but it's weird how they don't have a menu or set prices. They seem to charge different people different prices?. i'm not sure but we talk to people who we shared the table with and they said they've been there six times and that if they like you it seems they charge you less. We purposely came here for my birthday lunch on Sunday because that's the only day they have the lasagna but I didn't realize they don't have any fish on Sunday. Also the waiter came over and asked us what we wanted (remember there's no menu) so he said well we've got lasagna or ravioli... So I asked if they had spaghetti and meatballs. He said no we don't have any spaghetti. I figured that would just be a standard thing that any Italian restaurant would have. So I asked for fettuccine and he said no just Penne. Two stars for the atmosphere, two for the food. I think it's a fun place to bring out-of-towners on a weeknight; we got there at 8:30 on a Thursday and there was plenty of room for three. On weekends, fuhgeddaboudit. The three of us split a nice bottle of Merlot and an appetizer of baked clams, which were tender and yummy. My partner's chicken Marsala was decent but not as good as the one we make ourselves. My linguini was perfectly cooked and the marinara was delicious, but the sausages were overcooked and somehow both too bland and too spicy. My mother-in-law got an enormous plate of linguini with calamari and marinara, which she said was excellent but could barely make a dent in. The bill came to $32 per person, which we all felt was pretty good, especially since we took home at least two meals' worth of leftovers. For dessert, they recommend the cafe next door. We went in to find a bunch of loudmouths watching Hooters TV. I didn't even know there was such a thing as Hooters TV. Nice to get a freshly filled cannoli, but next time I think we'll go up to Palermo on 187th for pastries. read more

We came in on Mother's Day evening and we lucked out. I think we had to wait maybe 30 minutes which was great. We also got a table to ourselves (6 of us) which was awesome since most people were sitting at the larger tables next to strangers. The process here is a little weird. You put your name in and get a number then proceed upstairs to wait. The upstairs waiting area is actually bigger than the seating area and has tables and a bar. Not really sure why they don't use the upstairs for the actual restaurant area but whatever. The bar is fully stocked. We kept probing the bartender for recommendations for food and he would just say "everything is good". Wine was served in tiny glasses and was just ok. Once seated the waiter came to get our order for appetizers. We went with the antipasta platter which was excellent (and large). At one point we asked for more bread and he said yes but we never actually got it. Once we were almost finished, he came to take our food orders. He listed off the items of the day and we chose. You can get individual dishes or family style. We ordered: ravioli, lasagna, pasta and meatballs, beef bracciole and veal scallopini. The lasagna was the top choice. It was literally the best I've ever had in my life. Super cheesy and just enough crusted (cheese) on the top. So delicious. The meatballs were also very good and large. The marinara sauce was so good! I loved it. The ravioli was delicious and the kids really enjoyed it. I didn't try the veal but my brother said it was just ok. The bracciole was awful. At first it looked impressive (it was massive) but turns out it was just overdone meat stuffed with ground meat. There was no cheese inside of it which was just really odd. Don't order this...you will be disappointed. The food was good, the price wasn't bad (I think $120 for 6 of us and we did have drinks), the service is poor to fair at best. Will definitely come back and try to order some of the really good stuff and would also love to try seafood (they didn't have any the day we were there). read more

Really good salad and the meats that come on it are thick cut/great quality. Ambience- man this place is loud (lively?) and perfect for large groups. If you come in a smaller group you will be drowned out by the larger groups. We were there on Sat at 5 and was already packed. We waited about 15 min for a table for 2. Also I don't mind communal seating but it's always a gamble.... I happened to be seated next to a lady who stared at me eating the whole meal so........ The only complaint is the wine list, not too great and very overpriced..$45 for a bottle of Santa Marg PG-dang that is quite the markup! We paid $7 for heineken, not too bad. Would be awesome if they were BYOB as I would love to enjoy great italian food with great wine to complement! No set menu, but they always have a good selection of meat, seafood, poultry and pasta. Portions are generous. Came here with a group of friends after a long day at the zoo and cruising Arthur Avenue. This is the best homestyle Italian dinner I've had in NY. First, they don't have menu's, but the waiters come by telling you what the house is cooking tonight. 3 months later, I can remember exactly what we had because it was so good: amazing meatballs (not fatty, but tasting like real meat), great ziti with vodka sauce, lamb shank which was literally falling off the bone. Went there yesterday with my mom and it was very crowded so we waited about 10-15 minutes. They don't take reservations which i understand and we didn't mind the wait. The owner spoke to us and was very nice he told us how long the wait was. The first thing that upset me was that we were seated next to a very bitter lady from Connecticut. She complained about everything, interrupted my mother and I while we conversed, and had two misbehaved children. Five stars if it was not for that. I understand seating people closely together but I would've waited for a table to be available away from that woman. Second, the bread came out cold, and was not very good. My favorite part about italian restaurants is the bread and I expected more but it was okay. I will definitely return because i loved the environment and the waiter we had. He forgot about our wine but then bought it out filled all the way to the top and free of charge ! I got the baked ziti which was very good!
