They staved off an eviction nearly a decade ago and have somehow managed to stick around for a total of nearly 7 decades. Dearman's is the last legit diner in the city. The interior is a trip back in time. The spacious dining room is complete with retro furniture, checkered floors, and old school artwork that feels like something out of the 1950s. The decor screams pure Americana and is one of the biggest draws for the many patrons that come through daily. My favorite part is their juicy burgers. Pair it with their crispy fries and their old school milkshakes, and one has a complete meal. The burgers are hearty, and the portions are substantial. They also have salads, other sandwiches (tuna is my go-to), and various options for loaded fries. The other awesome part are the prices. Minus the double cheeseburger, there are no items that exceed $10 on the entire menu. The staff is young and always enthusiastic, and they play a big part in making this place such a destination. Went to lunch today with a friend and the service was abysmal: the waitress who walked by our table was rude and hostile, and the cashier behaved in a similar way when I went to pay at the end. **Luckily, the young man that actually handled our order was polite and welcoming. Thanks to him we didn't leave.** We've been there many times before so we were surprised by the bad attitude. I even asked the cashier if the diner had changed owners. Saw an ad on Facebook and thought it would be a fun place to check out. They do have a little of the 50's diner vibe but I'm not sure how to explain it but it was almost as if they tried and then stopped. We ordered a burger, fried chicken sandwich, large fries and a cookies and cream shake. The waitress was cool and helpful. I will say we went a bit early, a little after 5, and very few people were there. Even when we left around 6, it was still fairly quiet for a Friday night. The food was well prepared and while not the best burger I've ever had, it was very good. The price points are excellent in a world that thinks a burger should be $20 now! May 12, 2026 - The food was very good. It was 3 of us. We sat at a Table and waited and waited, but no one came to our table to ask if we wanted anything to drink or take our order. They were a little busy, but they had people that came in way after us, that had a reserved table and they got waited on before us and then another group of ladies came way after us and they got waited on before us. So I had to go to the counter and play dumb and ask them, do we write down our order or is somebody going to come and take our order? The guy did apologize and he did send a waitress right over. Two of us got the classic cheeseburger, which was very good and we ordered one order of sweet potato fries, which were very good. Of course I got the chocolate shake, and it was very good too. The man in our party got the hamburger steak, which was too big hamburger steaks with gravy and french fries. It also came with a salad and toast. But, they didn't bring the salad until after they brought the hamburger steak and they didn't bring the toast until he was almost finished with his meal. He said the toast was good. He said the hamburger steak was OK, but he wouldn't get it again. I will go back because the hamburger was very good. But just don't get the hamburger steak that comes with french fries, a salad and toast because you might not get the salad and toast until after you get the hamburger steak. read more

Dearman's Diner is a Baton Rouge Tradition! It's been open in the Bocage Village Shopping Center for as long as I've lived here. It's reportedly been in business since 1958. It certainly seems to have embraced the 1950's vibe with the interior! There are white and black checkerboard tiles on the floor, with bright red tiles and accents. The retro branding extends to their logos and menus too. It's like a visit to yesteryear. The menu offerings are also classic diner fare, and include a variety of old-time soda fountain offerings. There are floats, shakes, malts, and even phosphates. The food includes hot plates, sandwiches, burgers, and salads, but is simple enough to fit on one page. These offerings are grilled or prepared fresh and served hot. I suggest a simple BLT or one of their old style burgers. The seating area is ample and there are a couple of tables outside as well. The waitstaff are are prompt and friendly. It's definitely a modern take on an old timey experience, and what's not to like about that. read more

This review will be on my last 3 visits. This recent visit we all ordered cheeseburgers and fries. The burgers were delicious. Just like they used to be. All 3 visits the fries were nasty. The fryer needs to be cleaned and oil replaced or find a different brand. They taste almost burnt and they come with no salt. My cheeseburger last visit was cold the cheese didn't even melt. At that time I said I would never come back. After years of eating at Dearman's, I finally decided to give up. I'm glad I came back to give it another try. Finally got a good burger! I love this old skewl pharmacy counter burger joint! It has the same pharmacy counter vibe, staff, menu, and signs but now without the pharmacy. The burgers are one of my favorites in Baton Rouge. I really wanted to like this place. The concept of a classic retro diner is something I usually enjoy, but overall this visit was extremely underwhelming and disappointing. The atmosphere hints at a retro vibe, but aside from the floors and tables, it doesn't feel particularly immersive or exciting. Nothing special, but completely acceptable for a casual diner. Unfortunately, the food was where things truly fell apart. I understand that Dearman's is known for smash-style burgers, but the burger I received was severely overcooked to the point of being burned on the outside. The burnt exterior completely overpowered any flavor the meat might have had, and the edges were hard, dry, and unpleasant. It ruined the burger entirely. When I decided not to finish it, another person at our table tried a bite--and immediately pulled out a large hair from the middle of the burger. It was absolutely disgusting and made me feel sick to my stomach. That alone would have been enough to end the meal. The fries were also terrible. They were extremely overcooked, greasy, and mostly tiny stub-like pieces, as if we were served the bottom scraps from the fryer basket. I wouldn't even describe them as properly fried potatoes--they were borderline inedible. To make matters worse, the checkout experience felt off. When the tip screen appeared, the 15% option wouldn't work, but the 20% option did. While this could very well be a technology issue, it felt questionable and added to an already negative experience. For a restaurant that has been rated by 225 Magazine as having the "best burger in Baton Rouge," this visit was honestly shocking. I understand there may be nostalgia for longtime customers, but as a first-time visitor, this was disappointing enough that it will also be my last. If Dearman's wants to continue being one of the longest-running restaurants in Baton Rouge, they seriously need to get it together and focus on delivering a better, more consistent product. read more

This place used to be good, but the quality has been slipping over the past 5 years. Today the food quality was so poor that I will never return. I ordered hamburger and fries. While the patties were handmade, they were not seasoned, not even any salt, and the bun was so flimsy that it fell apart before I could eat the burger. The fries were both overcooked and soggy, a sure sign that the oil wasn't hot enough. I paid nearly $20 for this poorly prepared meal. Dearman's quality is no more, and the prices are outrageous. I headed to Dearmans after the lunch rush one day, and it was a good enough experience. I ordered my food to go, and it was ready in about 10 minutes as expected. The service was good - nothing stands out, but that means they were not bad. I ordered a cheeseburger dressed and small fries. I only live a short distance away, so i was home quickly. They need to find a better way to package take out - the fries were just open in the bag and the grease from them had started to soak in the bag. The burger was wrapped simply in foil. Overall, the food was decent and basic. The cheeseburger was pretty good - it appears it was freshly made patties that are a good size. The fries were pretty lackluster - they had a chill to them and were pretty messy as they were all over the bag and not protected. They were pretty bland so I added a little salt and pepper mix. I figure I'll head back one day and sit inside to take in the experience - the location is so convenient. I still can't believe i've lived here all my life and this is the first time I've eaten here. (I went once before but we were not assisted and after 10 minutes, we left.) Lesson learned - no take out, but try inside! read more

I had been craving a local burger grill that has the old time taste that only a local diner can have Dearman's is one of those diners. However tonight they fell to the bottom of the barrel, mainly due to staff. The advertiser that open to 8:00 pm I arrived a 07:30 only to have the staff tell me they were closed. Yet I walked into the restaurant and when I questioned their closing early the staff continued to say the were closed, so as I walked to the front door to leave t asked the cashier why the closed early he in tern said we are close were open for another 30 minutes. So the stared the grill up turned on the gas. That's when I should have left for the grill was cold, clean and all of the block grease that covers a grill when cooking all day that make the burger meat taste so good was gone. The staff stared at me with no appreciation for I now interrupted their getting off early. I'm sure they were pissed. But I had driven 4 mile for this great (normally burger) . Well it was just so so no flavor the fry's were cooked fresh but the put them in to soon so were cook before my burger was ready and were just lukewarm when I left. The cashier was I assume like an assistant mgr. As he told the they were not closed yet. He offered a drink on the house which they never gave me when I left. I normally don't get take out as it normally never very good when you get home it cools off however I brought a warming bag to keep it hot. That still not could help this mediocre burger and fry's that cost 16.98 and was worth 2:00 in my opinion. If I go back it will be around 1:00 pm as the lunch rush is tapered off and the grill has a good coating to give it that good old diner taste. For this meal it gets very low ratings read more

They were perfect!! She had a bag of chips and I had fries, the kind that still have some peel left on them. After we had some ice cream chocolate for me and strawberry for Julie. So my coworkers were talking about this cute little diner in Bocage shopping area that I just had to try. I live for a good burger so of course I went to try it. I arrived about noonish and it was kind of packed and loud. There is a small area to the right when you walk in. There was a guy there that said hi. I said "this is my first time here so I order here?" He replied "no find an empty table or booth and someone will be with you" I sat at a booth. There was no time to wait considering how packed they were! I sat for about 5 min before someone asked had I been helped. When I replied "no" the waitress took my order then. I ordered a Cheeseburger and I added bacon with a small fry. I inquired if the cheese for the cheese fries was a sauce or shredded and she said "it's slice cheese we melt on the grill and but it in the fries" ......ummmmm no thanks A nice guy sat next to me after I order who received his food well before I did. There appears to be no order to the way the orders come out. I appreciate them using ground beef. However the staff can be seen making patties with her bare hands and putting them on the grill and putting the cheese on the meat with her bare hands. The burger lacked seasoning. My co worker told me when I got back to work that you have to ask to have seasoning added to the burger. The fries were very bland but there is salt, pepper, and season salt on the table. The burger patty is the perfect size. However when you add cheese you can barely taste it because the size of the patty. I do wish the bun was a little thicker All in all it was ok! LOVE Since 1987 ///// I've been coming here since I was a young child. It was a drugstore back then with just the counter. I really don't care what anyone says, despite changing the owners a few times in my life, the food has ALWAYS been great. First timer & last timer who wasted $15 on food. All in all, horrible food and poor service. I ended up eating less than 10 french fries and less than half of my burger before just throwing it all in the trash. I would have called to speak with someone about my experience before posting this, but the poor service also led me to believe they would actually care less. Here are the details: * Fries and burger patty were not seasoned at all (I saw on another review that mentioned you have to ASK for seasoning on your food.
