What an amazing find! We had eaten at Don Cha in Fort Walton Beach and stumbled upon another in Pensacola. My fiancée and I went there and absolutely loved it! She is Peruvian, so we try to go authentic whenever possible, and Don Cha does not disappoint. Fantastic ceviche and other dishes, as well as delicious drinks. We ate at Don Cha for the second time tonight. Just like the first time, we were thoroughly delighted. It's enough that the food is delicious - quality ingredients with careful preparation. But, the service is top notch, too... a true feeling of hospitality. Joca served us. I had a seafood dinner. Sauce & everything else was tasty. Staff extremely helpful explaining their dishes. Their barley tea sw. or unsweetened was good. Suggesting strongly that you do not combine fried seafood with a cold sauce in the same dish as the seafood was made very soggy and with a cold (very cold) sauce it was pretty unappetizing. Maduros could have used a sweet dip sauce like a butter/rum perhaps. If the main dish was enjoyable there would be another star but it was not. I have never heard of this place until we came for a meeting. It was not busy when we got there at around 4. We weren't planning on eating either but we decided to share a trio appetizer. We were very surprised at how good it was. I don't remember the name but it was 3 options of tuna shrimp and egg, all placed on top of potatoes. The ceviche was also delicious. Everything in the restaurant, including the food, seemed very authentic. The prices were fair (not cheap but not too steep). The service was very good but not great. If I had one "negative" (wasn't bad) it would've been a little more attentive service. If I could give Don Cha more than 5 stars, I would. The food was delicious, well portioned and fresh. The service was stellar - Jose, our waiter, explained the things we weren't sure of, suggested a lovely red ale, and came by often to see how we were enjoying things. All wrapped up in a lovely little building convenient to downtown Pensacola. We shared a boliyucas con queso (fried mashed yuca croquettas with cheese in the middle) which were served with a delicious dipping sauce. I had the causa con langostinos (mashed potato layers with avocado within, topped with shrimp and a light white sauce (all served cold), and my friend ordered the ceviche de langostino (sooo good), served with avocado slices, sweet potato, and 2 very large tostones. The hot sauces on the side were so full of flavor and just the right amount of heat. I can't wait to return to try literally everything on the menu. And hopefully get Jose as our server again. Just had an amazing meal at doncha.peruvianfood. I actually lived in Peru for a few months and this place took me back! This was the Jalea mixta which is Fried fish, shrimp and Calamari served with fried yuca, topped with sliced red onion, tomatoes, and cilantro in lime juice and the Tacu Tacu Con Lomo Mantado which is steak with sauteed onions and tomatoes, served with rice and beans, the outside of the rice is fried and top with an egg. These are two dishes I would recommend if you've never tried Peruvian food before, also the ceviche. Their sweet and spicy pork is also really delicious. For dessert we had the "pie" made with lucuma, a delicious caramel butterscotch type flavor. Good maduros too. Very good Peruvian drinks. We had the Trio de Causas which was basically a trio of a cold mashed potato with either chicken salad, tuna salad, and fried shrimp. Excellent. I've had the potato with tuna in the past and that was my first experience with Peruvian food so I was prepared for the cold potatoes. If you've never had it, be prepared, it's meant to be served cold. I also had the Tacu Tacu con Lomo Montado and omg, DELICIOUS. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sauces mixed fantastically with the rice and bean loaf. The rice and bean loaf isn't really a loaf (I imagined a meatloaf when it was recommended) but basically a mix of rice and beans that's shaped together and fried so the outside is a little crispy and the inside still fluffy and soft. Decided to try DonCha for the first time last night. José was our server and he is an outstanding host. He suggested the Piso Sour to start and it was delicious. We also ordered appetizers that are unique, beautifully plated, and delicious. We ordered three appetizers, in fact so we never ordered an entre. I have to say, not ever having tried authentic Peruvian food, I was a bit lost when looking at the menu, but José was very good at making suggestions. Really good food and attentive service in the old Horizen space on Scenic Highway. Often uncommon ethnic foods wind up dumbed down or mainstreamed, but this was authentic and full-flavored and frankly, a surprise to find in Pensacola. As others have mentioned, there is not much difference in portion size between appetizers and mains. The two of us split three appetizers and it was plenty for a meal. Wasn't sure if I was a fan of Peruvian food but am now. Don Cha is delicious. Really more comfort food than gourmet, however, the Octopus appetizer rivaled any upscale restaurant. It's large so we split the veggie Saltado: rice with a fried egg, eggplant, zucchini, onions and mushrooms with plantain and potatoes. Everything was flavorful--sauces were delicious without overpowering. My husband had 2 Pisco Cucumber drinks which he asked for "not sweet" and they were perfect.
