Don Chico's is a large facility with easy access off highway 6 and 3. There is lots of parking around the building. They handle a lot of people at one time and move you along quickly. The facility is older and has a dated feel. The team here has done a nice job at adding Mexican decor to make it feel welcome. The facility is clean and comfortable. Our waitress was outstanding. We had a large party that arrived in waves. She was right on the orders, refills and food delivery. I found the chips to be a bit thicker and crispy. They had a bit of a greasy taste. The salsa was thicker and tasty. The regular salsa has a slight kick. My wife ordered the shrimp quesadilla. She really enjoyed the dish. Everything was very fresh and nicely cooked. I ordered a side of beans and rice as it did not come with my Enchiladas Supremas entree. The beans were very smooth and not over cooked. The cheese topping was a good accent to the beans. Nice creamy-mild flavor without a dominating bean flavor. The rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Very moist and flavorful. The enchiladas supremas was a nice dish but not outstanding. I really liked the bean and cheese enchiladas. They had a good Mexican flavor. The darker brown rancheros sauce was delicious. It accented the bean and cheese taste well. I found the chicken to be a bit tough and stringy. It was a bit difficult to cut and chew. The chicken seemed to have a bland taste as well. The ground beef enchilada was okay. Arrived with a friend a few minutes after 11am on a Saturday. We were immediately seated and brought chips and salsa. The salsa is some of the best I've had. Nice flavor and heat. Shortly afterwards our waitress showed up to take our drink order. I ordered a bottle of beer and my friend ordered the Long Island Ice Tea. We looked over the menus and it didn't take long to decide what we wanted. The artwork inside is very nice. The booths need some care, however. The one across from us on both sides was ratty looking. Our waitress returned with our drink after a few minutes and took out order. I tried to order the lunch Chimichanga on the menu, but was told they are no longer doing lunch specials, dinner specials only. Then why is there a page in your menu stating you do? I let it go and order the Chicken Chimichanga without beans on the side. My friend ordered the Chicken Fajitas with corn Tortillas. We ate the chips and salsa while we waited. My friend said his drinks looked weird but tasted good. The place begun to fill up very fast. A few minutes of waiting and our food arrived. I couldn't believe the amount of food my friend received! That was enough for 3 meals. His only complaint was the tortilla shells were stuck together and tore when trying to separate. My Chimichanga was excellent! The rice was kind of on the bland side. Bathrooms were clean. I did pass what looked like a closet on the way to the bathroom. The door was open and I could see a pretty nasty looking shower. They don't even have tacos on the menu, but if you ask, they have chicken or ground beef tacos. But if you want steak tacos, you must order 3. You will not get chorizo tacos, so don't even ask. We waited a long time for our check while the waitress seated several other tables of people, got them chips, took their drink orders. Then when she finally gave us our check, we then had to wait at the front to get someone to check us out. All in all, as others have said, the customer service at this place is not up to par. It was the closest to real Mexican Food, scents being in the area. Salsa was not up to par though. The beans seamed a little on the sweet side but the rice complemented it well, specially with the roll up style enchiladas smoothed in melted red "chili" ( they dont know what real Chlie is ) and topped of melted cheese. This place used to be a car dealership. You walk in and immediately are greeted with a friendly staff. You're also greeted with a faint smell of motor oil. The place looks very clean and the service is extremely friendly and very very quick. My order was hot and very very tasty. The place wasn't very busy for a Saturday night. Lots of employees standing around with nothing to do. I can never figure out why Mexican restaurants are so stingy with their sour cream and guacamole. Everything seemed reasonably priced. This is one of my favorite places to eat in Kendallville! Not only do the waiters speak Spanish, they give you large portions! I also love how they bring unlimited chips and salsa to you. The atmosphere is definitely Latin and the look is unique! Not to mention that the food tastes very good as well! That being said, this is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. We frequently eat in Auburn and Fort Wayne. This restaurant has a nice selection, fresh ingredients and good flavor. The staff is friendly and the chips and salsa are always fresh. The atmosphere is ok, prices are ok.
