Salsa Grille is The Shiznat! Seriously. I wish there was one closer to home. Similar to the Mexican fast-casual, you do down the assembly line, starting with what type of food item you want (tacos, burrito, a bowl, salad, etc) and add your proteins and veggies and sauces and assorted toppings as you go down the line. You've been to these places before. One of the things that stand out for me is the variety of items available. Yes, they've got chicken and beef and barbacoa, but they also have chimichurri chicken, which is an absolute stand-out item. If you're unfamiliar with chimichurri, it's chicken that's typically sautéed with finely chopped parsley, minced garlic, olive oil, oregano and red wine vinegar. That leads to a very green colour, but the taste is (insert chef's kiss here). I typically get mine in bowl but vary the toppings over time. As you go down the line and add your toppings you're basically creating your own meal. At the end of the line you're handed your meal on a tray and each order comes with a small bag of freshly made chips and you can chose from any one of about ten different types of salsa. I've tried most of them, my favorite being the tomatillo because it tastes so fresh, but they're all made fresh in store and each has its own distinct flavor. We've been to this location a number of time and the service has always been awesome and the facility has been very clean. They do a great job of keeping the dining room clean. In a world of QDoba, Moe's, Chipotle, and Salsarita, I'd take Salsa Grille over all of them. If I had the means I'd bring a Salsa Grille franchise to Louisville. read more

I wish Yelp had a point system. This visit was easily a 3.5. The location was clean, easy to access, and the service was quick and efficient. What anyone might have lacked in personality, they made up for in service. It was a win/win. The restaurant is dine in or take out. You're not greeted at the door, but that appears to be the new service model for most fast paced establishments. I quickly ordered a meal for myself and my companion. It was enough that we shared the main dish, a burrito style bowl. The meat was seasoned well and was full of flavor. I love the yellow rice, it's a nice change of pace. While Salsa Grille is not a typical sit-down Mexican restaurant, it stands out among its fast casual competitors as a fresh-tasting and customer-driven dining experience set in an immersive atmosphere. We were wowed upon entering as it was not the typical modern fast casual Mexican design, but it looked more like an intentionally decorated Mexican restaurant. Our high hopes were satisfied when we were joyfully overwhelmed with a wide variety of fresh culinary options: two rices, two beans, more proteins than I've seen at any fast casual restaurant, lots of toppings and ten types of salsa. There were even free chips! All three of us were extremely pleased with the light, fresh ingredients compared to the heavy food offered by other similar restaurants. When traveling through Ft. Wayne in the future, we will be back to Salsa Grille. read more

We had skipped lunch due to a late breakfast and had to decide where to eat this late, hot afternoon. We had settled on the nearby burger joint and realized this was nearby and changed destination. Prices are similar to Chipotle's but with a few glaring differences. There are more meat selections, the meats were juicier and more flavorful, and the corn tortillas are better. The four of us all got one barbacoa, one carnitas and one Verde chicken chimichurri taco on corn tortillas (ideal for my gluten intolerant kids). Each taco was generously topped with our choice of toppings and they even had FRESH sliced limes available. We got Negra Modelo beer (which we have a hard time finding in local Mexican joints) and the kids got tamarindo Jarritos. Salsa Grille provides a self serve salsa bar with individually packaged servings of various salsas. They asked that each person only take two per meal. Since we had 4 meals we were able to try 8 of them. We were very surprised at how much we liked the avocado green salsa. Some of the others were not so great. The tacos were very good and we were happy to find a place that served gluten free food and also offered a consensus for the family. read more

I love how the vegan items are soooo clearly marked! They assemble your food in front of you so you can see and control what goes into your dish. They have tofu, black beans, sautéed veggies, rice, guac, pico, many types of salsa, a vegan avocado ranch dressing that works well in place of cheese, and your choice of hard shell, soft shell, burrito, tortilla chips, or a bowl. The food is always pretty good the service just sucks. the kids they hire are just incredibly rude. I've never had a positive experience here. I will say the male manager is extremely nice but other than that I haven't met a nice staff member. If I wanted to be treated like shit I would go to McDonalds. Ok, so here's what everyone wants to know about Salsa Grille: How does it compare to Chipotle? The fairest way I can think of to review this place is to do a multi-category one-on-one comparison to Chipotle Mexican Grill. So here goes, the epic, full scale battle of Fort Wayne burriterias (think I made that word up.) 1. Chicken Burrito - Chipotle OWNS the chicken burrito category. It's not that any of the individual components is better, but Chipotle's whole package together is unbeatable. (I need to try SG's ancho chicken next time, it may come closer.) 2. Choices - Salsa Grille, hands down. Way more options on meat, salsa, etc 3. Chips - SG wins this one, because theirs are FREE. 4. Salsa - Chipotle's may be slightly better, but SG offers a FREE chips and salsa bar, so they win this category. 5. Locally owned? - I'm a sucker for great local places, so a point for SG here. 6. Cleanliness - Both are impressively clean. A draw. 7. Speed - Chipotle is faster, but SG is new. Give them time, and I'm sure they'll speed up. Nonetheless, a point for Chipotle. 8. - Guacamole - Salsa Grille wins. The guac is FREE. 9. Cool Owner - Chris @ Salsa Grille is awesome. Very personable, and he remembers his customers. I'd probably return if the food he was cooking was mediocre. (Good news, it's not!) 10. Price - I didn't pay attention to the prices at SG, but my wife, son, and I ate there for $19 (drank water) That's on par with Chipotle, which is right where they should be. Score: Salsa Grille 6, Chipotle 2 It's probably not that much of a landslide, but all in all, I'd say SG beats Chipotle by a nose, and that's something to brag about. Q'doba, in my opinion, isn't in the league of either of them. Salsa Grille is owned by the folks that run George's International Grocery downtown, so they should know a thing or two about ethnic foods, and it shows. Chris said all their produce comes direct from the markets in Chicago. Again it shows. If there's one adjective that I could use to describe SG, it would probably be FRESH. Everything tasted fresh. I'll definitely be back, as Chris has a bunch more options I need to try. You should try them too. This place is awesome, and hopefully, it's here to stay. read more

Support local Fort Wayne businesses!!!! Second, each meal comes with FREE CHIPS AND SALSA!!!!!! Their salsa bar has about 8 different types of salsas for you to choose from! Third, they don't charge extra for guacamole!!!!!! Fourth...they have 7 different meats to choose from, PLUS some killer tofu :) Finally, everyone there is just REALLY NICE!! You will not find fresher, better tasting Mexican food anywhere in the city, and it would be hard to top in other cities. When you go you just need to make sure you try as many things as possible. Please, don't miss the pineapple salsa, its a game changer. I always go with the burrito bowl with chicken, veggies, black beans and guac. Pro Tips: - Never go at a regular lunch interval if you are on a time crunch. The lines can be long, but they move quickly so don't be too dishearted. - On Mondays, they like to welcome the dreadful start of the new week with a cheaper meal option. You can do a full meal for like $6. You cannot eat better food for this price anywhere. - If you are passing through Fort Wayne on I69 please make a sure stop in. Thankfully this location is quick to get to from the highway, and you can also grab Duncan Donuts coffee and some gas if needed on the exit as well. - To be fair, its not celiacs friendly place, but if you need to eat gluten free it's fairly easy. They don't have anything listed on the menu so that's why I marked it down one star. But if you get a bowl you can do pretty well. They also have corn chips so that's great! read more

The little Mexican cutie here made my burrito really big! She piled it all on and the end result is a really big n thick burrito, nice girth and length all for a good price. I've been to Salsa Grille three times last week. It's very good, and I'd rate it above Chipotle and Qdoba Restaurants, which are all similar in format. Salsa Grille has several more choices that the other places do not, such as chorizo sausage and two preparations of chicken, no extra charge for guacamole, chips and salsa (nice salsa bar offering "George's Mild", "George's Hot", avocado salsa, habanero & roasted tomato, grilled pineapple & chipotle, pico de gallo, salsa verde, salsa ranchero). You start off by choosing the format you want (bowl, burritio, taco, taco salad, quesadilla) your meat (that's how they charge you), rice (spanish or with beans & corn), other veggies, cheese, and other toppings such as guacamole or sour cream. If I recall correctly, it's $6.55 for the barbacoa (chuck roast cooked in a tasty sauce) or the pork carnitas (shredded pork), $6.25 for the chorizo, or Carne asada (grilled skirt steak), and $5.95 for the 'veggie'. There are two chicken choices also: Ancho chili chicken (grilled chicked marinated in ancho chili adobo sauce) for $6.25, or Verde chicken chimichurri (shredded chicken tossed with fresh herbs/vinegar/olive oil) for $6.55. You get a rectangular paper tray of three color corn chips (red, green, and white...Mexican Flag colors?) along with your entree and drink cup, so you can proceed, after paying, to the drink machine and the salsa bar to help yourself there. The chip tray is re-fillable (no charge!!)...just ask the cashier for more. I personally like the bowl format the best, since it allows me to mix up the ingredients and eat it with a fork, unlike the burritio. This place is generally quieter than Chipotle's "echo" chamber, and it's easier to sit and eat/talk. Oh, we met Chris, the owner, and he confirms 'Fred M." review's statement that they get all of their produce from local growers in Chicago. (So far, you can only see his review in the 'filtered review' section, where many other positive reviews were stuck.) Salsa Grille is run by the same people who run "George's International Market" here in Fort Wayne. FREE GUAC- this is the two words every Mexican food lover wants to hear. FREE SALSA BAR. Yes. There is a free salsa bar. FREE CHIPS with purchase. It keeps getting better guys. All the ingredients are fresh to death. My favorite is the verde chicken chimichurri. I always go for a bowl. Load it up with cheese, queso, black beans, rice, cilantro, onion, jalopenos, tomatoes, and guac. Top it off with sour cream and you have the ultimate bowl. Even on non Monday dollar holler- I usually spend around $7.50 for a bowl with chips and salsa. I went to this place soon after it opened, so maybe things have changed since then. My main complaint is that their flavors do not all go well together. This is very important because in a set-up in which you are building your own meal, you need to be able to trust that if the staff asks if you want grilled veggies on your rice, those veggies will add to the overall flavor of the dish rather than subtract. My experience was that none of the various flavors in my burrito bowl seemed to go together. Individually, they probably tasted fine. But when together they lacked that cohesion that you get from the chain establishments. My grilled veggies were overly oily and the flavors were just very strong and off-putting. And my rice had a funky flavor to it (I hear they put chicken stock in their rice?? Who puts chicken stock in rice that's to be used in a Mexican food dish?!). The meat was good, but I didn't get very much of it. And the salsa was so minced and pulverized that it was more like a chilled dipping sauce. I really didn't like the dyed chips...had to pick them out. So as a whole, this meal just did not come together for me. You could say that it was my fault for not pairing the right items together, but come on! The whole idea behind a place like this is that everything should go together and taste good together. This place is a combination of Moe's Southwest grill and Chipolte. But its better than both. The food is very good, all be it kind of expencive. I went with another person and our bill was over $14 that was for two bowls and no drinks. One plus is this place gives you some chips to eat with your meal, un-like Chipolte which charges for them.
