This is my second time at his location , even tho the food is spectacular and the waiters are very good , I think they need to seriously address reinforcement on the dress code . I feel like this is an up scale environment with a great view , vibe and ambiance. However I can't help but to notice on both of my visits that some people are poorly dressed , it's like going to a gala party wearing sweat pants . It just kills the whole vibe of the place . That should certainly be addressed by management. Aside from that the hostess should be a little more friendly as well as they are your post card when people walk in the door . We plan on going back at some point , but I wish they address these little concerns to make the place an even more desirable environment.

Went here for a birthday and even though we made a reservation, it took a while to seat us. We were seated in the back area and they were blasting the heat so high, we were melting. The views were great, I'll give it that and the vibes are fun if you're there with a group. The food was kind of disappointing. I got the oxtail and it was so salty! The service overall was decent, they put a sign on the table for the birthday person and at the end of the meal (or during dessert), the staff come by with a light up sign and sparklers to celebrate. The manager even came by the wish the person a happy birthday at the end. Overall, it was a nice experience, but not somewhere I'd go often or recommend. Only if you're in the area and need to plan a fancy dinner that won't break the bank.

The ambiance is great. Valet parking is available. The staff is friendly, and attentive. To be honest the food and drinks were not worth the almost 500$ bill. The food was a bit salty. The amount of food was very generous. But again not worth the price. Desserts were very good. Pernil was literally the whole shoulder. The vibe for a Sunday brunch was kinda dull. There was not many people in the restaurant.

We came here for brunch to celebrate a birthday, and unfortunately what should have been a fun occasion turned into a frustrating, embarrassing, and disappointing experience. The birthday guest in our group was denied entry because management claimed his attire violated the restaurant's dress code. To be clear, we later found the dress code on the restaurant's website, so this is not a complaint about having standards. The issue is the apparent inconsistency in how those standards were enforced. The birthday guest was dressed in a trendy, casual outfit that fit the atmosphere of the restaurant. Yet throughout our visit, we observed multiple men inside wearing clothing that appeared to violate the same dress code, including slides, sweat shorts, and sportswear. Considering there was a World Cup match on and many patrons were dressed casually for the occasion, the decision to single him out made very little sense. We even documented examples because the inconsistency was so obvious. Because the rest of our party had already been seated, the birthday guest chose not to argue. Instead, he went home, changed into jeans, and returned so he could celebrate with us. While we ultimately stayed and spent a significant amount of money, the experience had already put a damper on what was supposed to be a special occasion. What made the situation worse was the response from management. When we expressed our concerns and questioned why the dress code appeared to be applied differently to our guest than to others in the restaurant, the manager responded by mentioning that he was "half Black." That statement was both surprising and unhelpful. We were not questioning the manager's racial identity; we were questioning why one guest was denied entry while others wearing similar attire were admitted without issue. As a group of darker-skinned patrons, the entire experience left us feeling racially profiled and discriminated against. Whether that was the restaurant's intention or not, that is genuinely how it felt. When rules appear to be enforced differently depending on who is standing at the door, it naturally raises concerns about bias. Instead of addressing those concerns directly, management's response left us feeling dismissed and invalidated. It's unfortunate because I would much rather be writing about the food, the atmosphere, or the celebration itself. Instead, the lasting memory is watching the birthday guest be turned away, forced to leave and change clothes, and then return to a restaurant where numerous other guests appeared to be dressed no differently than he was. We came expecting good food, good energy, and a memorable birthday celebration. We stayed because it was the most practical option after our guest returned, but we left feeling frustrated, unwelcome, and deeply disappointed. For us, the inconsistency in treatment overshadowed everything else, and unfortunately it is the reason we will not be returning.

Just left from having dining on a Monday night.... This restaurant is strictly for aesthetics and cocktails. The location is ideal with a beautiful view of NYC and it is so pretty inside and on the outdoor patio! Also, our server was very friendly. With that being said the food is very mediocre, lacks a lot of flavor... does not even taste like authentic Spanish food. Empanadas were mediocre, octopus seemed like it was missing flavor. The glaze on the salmon very good but the spinach and coconut rice had no flavor. Oxtail was okay but rice was hard. This location has so much potential wish the menu could be worked on.

Great spot for a celebration, love the menus. The drinks hit, the octopus appetizer a must BUT the coconut flan...... has me coming back! That cool custard inside a coconut OMG! "I thought I was in PUERTO RICO The entire staff deserves a huge applause ( front & back house) but my favorite two people our waiter and the bathroom attendant! The manger coming to table is always a nice addition. This location is not just a night out but a fun evening experience.

Went to Don Coqui for a birthday celebration , and it was great! The service is quick and attentive , we ordered the appetizer platter for2 ( forgot to take pictures) and some drinks to start ( vivid sonado) . I ended up ordering the roast pork for my main course and the portion is huge! We had a great time celebrating a birthday! They stopped by with a bday sign as well! A great place to celebrate a bday , the atmosphere is amazing, and great music!

We had a good time in here. The spot is BUSY on weekends. Shorting it a star because the managers are kinda stupid. Me and a crew of three others came to get drinks. Decided to get food as well so we put our name on the list for a table. 1hr and 45min wait. So we went to the back bar. Ended up ordering a bunch of drinks and got appetizers because an hr and 45 mins is a long time. Spent $285. Then the waitress came to find us and said our table was ready. We did the whole wait spending money. Sat down and only wanted an app or two and another round of drinks. They told us we, while already seated at the table we waited for, couldnt just order apps and drinks because they had a wait. At that point, f*ck them. We were already $350 in at the establishment. Bad business. Had us, two doctors and a hospital executive, already planning to return consistently throughout the summer because the vibe was useful. Now, we can skip this BBL palace. So yea...honest review. Sad to see managers being short sighted.

Yelp Elite Review Overall Rating: 2/5 Don Coqui Visit details: Tuesday at 7:00 PM, reservation for 2, no special occasion. We arrived on time and were told there was no wait, but were asked to step to the side while they prepared a table. There is no waiting area, so we were left standing awkwardly in the middle of the aisle, which I really didn't like. For a large restaurant, this felt unorganized. Seating is very tight. Tables are extremely close together and very small--the menu barely fit. You genuinely feel like you're sitting on top of other guests, which took away from comfort. Our server, Esther, introduced himself immediately and brought waters right away, which was good. Service was quick overall, and he was knowledgeable about the menu. I let him choose my first drink--the passion fruit mojito, which was well-balanced and refreshing but very light on alcohol. The Sexy Island drink was much more flavorful and stronger, and the Cabernet was good. However, one of our sides was forgotten, and later an order of parmesan fries never came out at all. We had to ask for it to be removed from the bill, which is unacceptable at this price point. Food was decent but not memorable. Appetizers came out in about three minutes--very fast, fresh, and good, especially with the mango flavors. Substitutions were very limited (for example, potato salad couldn't be swapped for fries). The steak was ordered medium and came closer to medium-well but was still flavorful, with good black rice and beans. The salmon was tender and cooked well, but the teriyaki-style sauce tasted very average--like a regular sushi spot--so you're really paying for the location. Spinach was okay (buttery/garlicky), and portions were filling but nothing standout. We were told after ordering that churros take 20-25 minutes, which should be communicated earlier. The vibe is loud, party-style Spanish music with very dim lighting (each table has a small lamp, but it's still hard to see). Dress code seemed flexible--I was in leggings, a T-shirt, and sneakers--but it was noticeable that status and aesthetics matter. We watched other tables receive free coquito shots and extra attention, while our table was skipped. There's also a cameraman going around taking photos, and again, other tables were approached, not us. It definitely felt like treatment was based on looks or social media presence, which left a bad impression. Parking is another downside: only about 20 public spots, and everything else is $15 valet. Not terrible, but inconvenient. Restrooms were clean but very tight. There was an attendant offering perfume/lotion and handing paper towels, which some may like, but it made me feel a bit uncomfortable. The stalls had chipped/unfinished paint, and the mismatched fixtures (gold accessories with a chrome flush handle) made the bathroom feel tacky compared to the rest of the restaurant. Accessibility is okay on the main floor, but the covered outdoor area has a step covered by a rug, which isn't ideal for wheelchairs. Overall, Don Coqui is expensive, loud, and very scene-focused. The food is fine, but the experience felt status-based rather than hospitality-based. For the price, I expected better organization, consistency, and equal treatment. I wouldn't return and would only recommend it if you're specifically looking for a party vibe and don't mind tight seating and inconsistent service.

A small group of friends and I dined here for dinner. Interior was beautiful and colorful, with elegant decor. The sprawling outdoor space in the back was gorgeous, overlooking the Hudson river. There was loud music playing throughout, along with a party-like ambiance. I had a bit of a tough time deciding what to order, but finally went with the Steak and Onions, served with rice and beans, along with maduros. No substitutions were allowed. The Steak was a generous portion, with plenty of caramelized onions. Steak was delightfully juicy, tender, and well seasoned. The Maduros were placed with the rice, which was nicely made. Maduros were soft and slightly sweet. In addition, I got to taste the Seafood Paella, featuring lobster and shrimp. This dish was the most impressive looking! The rice was perfectly cooked and bursting with bold flavor. Lobster was succulent with creamy sauce. Also tried the Tostones with garlic sauce. Tostones were satisfyingly crunchy, but a bit on the bland and dry side. The garlic sauce helped with that. Service was solid. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. Everything came out in a timely manner. Prices are a bit expensive, but on par with the area. I would be open to returning to try the Grilled Marinated Lamb Chops and Coconut Rum Cake.

I think this restaurant is okay, though I'm not sure I would come back soon. I can see myself really enjoying this place in my 20s or 30s, but now that I'm older it doesn't quite suit me as much. The food and drinks were good, and the view is beautiful, but the restaurant is very loud, which makes it difficult to have a conversation--even our waiter had trouble hearing our order. It seems to be a popular spot for birthday celebrations, with the staff creating a festive atmosphere and giving special attention to those celebrating. We came here for my husband's 50th birthday but didn't mention it when making the reservation. In hindsight, I wish I had, as it seemed that birthday tables received more attentive service. Overall, it's a lively, fun place--great for celebrations if you enjoy an energetic atmosphere, but maybe not the best choice if you're looking for a quieter dining experience.

Long story short... Love the food, don't love the service. Don Coqui has another location in Haverstraw, NY with great food, views of the Hudson River and exceptionally friendly (not fast) service. The newer Edgewater location still has great food and views but doesn't check off the box for service. This location is competing with the other restaurants in the Edgewater area and trying to attract a certain crowd more suited for night life. There is a dress code but walking in at 4pm on a Sunday shouldn't mean being ignored if you're not wearing an out to go out clubbing.

Let me be clear, the main redeeming aspect of this place is the talent on stage. The musicians were exceptional and deserved far better than the environment surrounding them. I ordered a scotch neat, something I'm very familiar with, and immediately knew something was off. When I politely flagged down a waiter, he responded with visible annoyance, as if I was inconveniencing him by being a paying customer. I explained the issue and simply asked if it could be checked or replaced. Instead of addressing it professionally, he walked away without a word, returned holding the bottle and my glass, and said, "this is what you were poured," before carelessly tossing the drink back onto the table. No apology. No explanation. Just attitude. It escalated from there. When I confronted him about his behavior, he denied it outright and then doubled down with an aggressive, confrontational stance, getting in my face and effectively threatening me. His exact words? "If I tossed your drink on the table, it would have been all over you!", and "Man, shut yo ass!" Completely unprofessional and unacceptable in any setting, let alone an establishment that positions itself as upscale. The manager's response was just as disappointing. Instead of addressing the behavior of his staff, he blamed me, asking why I "chased" the waiter and suggesting I should have gone directly to him. That's not how basic customer service works. I tried to resolve the issue directly, respectfully, and without escalation, something his employee clearly had no interest in. I was thinking if I talk to the waiter first, he wouldn't get in trouble with his manager. To make matters worse, the manager continued to defend the waiter rather than de-escalate the situation. At that point, it was clear this wasn't a one-off issue; it's a reflection of how this place operates. I paid my bill and left. For a venue that attracts world-class jazz talent, it's astonishing how low the standard of service is. This place is doing a disservice to the artists who perform there. I will never return, and I would strongly caution anyone expecting a professional, respectful experience to look elsewhere.

But dang it this is literally. Right. Next. Door. As in I can sit on the deck outside of the restaurant and look in her living room. Smh. I say all that to say IVE BEEN MISSING OUT!! Her bday was this weekend so she booked a large table for family and friends. I was relieved to see they had valet. Parking is atrocious in this development so to only pay $10 to be 10 feet from the door was awesome. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the staff know her well and treated her as a valued guest. Here's the rundown: We went for BRUNCH. They have a prix fixe for $41 of most of the brunch items and it includes 2 Bellini, 2 mimosas, or 2 Bloody Marys. Good right? Welp what you don't know is that their cocktail menu is incredible so to heck with the prix fixe. We got mimosas at home!! Between the 10 of us we got cocktails, appetizers, entrees, desserts, coffee. Highlights: -Service was spectacular. Wesley was On It! By the time we finished eating there was another party of 10+ seated right behind us that he was servicing. I hope he enjoys the reward$ of his hard work! Make it rain on em Wesley! -Fat friendly seating. No arms, solid chairs, comfortable cushions. We were there for 4 hours and my booty was never sore. -Food. We tore it up and it was all delicious. My half of the table had the farm house breakfast sando, the fried chicken sando, French omelette, huevo rancheros. We shared the crab hush puppies, wings, calamari, goat cheese salad, and blueberry pancakes. I was nosey and saw that some of my other table mates ordered the skirt steak and eggs and the short rib. -Drinks. I know my husband loves mango so I suggested he get the smoked mango drink. I didn't know it came with theatrics. Dinner and a show?! Btw by the time our table was done almost everyone had ordered one. Lychee martini, Paloma, old fashioned, midnight espresso. Also all very good! -The View. Our party was too large to sit outside but we did sit right at the floor to ceiling windows. It's not even a one-off bad night. I've been to The Scarlet multiple times, and every single visit has been the exact same mess: one bartender trying to run the entire place alone while customers sit around waiting endlessly for service. Last night (May 20), there were around 20-25 people in the bar between the tables and bar seats, and a single bartender was expected to do everything: make drinks, take orders, deliver cocktails to tables, clear space at the bar, all of it. Unsurprisingly, service moved at a glacial pace. My date and I were seated when we arrived and after waiting 30 minutes without anyone coming over, I finally had to walk up to the bar and order my own drink. It was deeply uncomfortable and unprofessional. Management charging $25 per cocktail while refusing to properly staff the place is ridiculous. If you're going to price drinks like a luxury lounge, at least operate like one. MEMO TO MANAGEMENT - stop being cheap and hire another bartender.
